Template size 400KB, my site 40000KB

Hi,
I downloaded a template and then used it to create a website.
The website I created is HUGE KB wise and takes absolutely forever
to load, but there isn't much on it per se. How do I decrease the
file size? Should I delete all the pictures that they already had
in their template that I am not using etc? Or will that only
minimally affect the size.
I am also having real trouble uploading it to my host as I
have to (apparently) go through Dreamweaver to create the files.
Any hints on that would be greatly appreciated too!
Thanks
Tanya

Tanya,
Yes, delete all of the jpgs from the library that you are not
using. Also,
go into the publish settings in Flash and make sure that the
compress movie
option is selected. It's also a good idea to reduce the jpg
quality.

  • Unable to apply a new site template to a new site collection's root web

    Hi folks,
    Using PowerShell I need to create a new site collection and add a new site template to its root web.  I've tried but failed...
    I created the site template from a team site that I modified and then saved it as a site template and saved the template to an WSP file (in the solutions gallery).
    I have tried both of the following methods but can't find the template to add to the root web of the site collection.  Help!!
    Method 1 - Create the site collection, deploy & install the template as a user solution, and apply the template
    I did the following, but it doesn't work because Get-SPWeb doesn't find it.  If I run Get-SPWeb with no parameters the list it returns doesn't include my template.  So site.GetWebTemplates includes it but Get-SPWebTemplate doesn't.
    # Create the site collection
    $site = New-SPSite $siteURL -OwnerAlias $owner -SecondaryOwnerAlias $secondOwner -name $studentName -Description $description
    # Deploy and install the template
    $wsp = Add-SPUserSolution -LiteralPath $wspPath -Site $siteURL
    $wsp = Install-SPUserSolution -Identity $wspIdentity -Site $siteURL
    # Assign the template.
    $loc= [System.Int32]::Parse(1033)
    $templates= $site.GetWebTemplates($loc)
    foreach ($child in $templates)
    Write-Host $child.Name
    If ($child.Name.EndsWith("ABC")
    # the name of the template that I added ends in "ABC" - when this script runs I the name of my
    #added template displays as "{longGUID}#1ABC"
    $template = $child
    $templateID = $child.Name
    $template = Get-SPWebTemplate $templateID
    # regardless of whether I assign $template above or here the Set-SP_Web assignment below fails
    $web = Get-SPWeb $siteURL
    $web | Set-SPWeb
    -Template $template
    Method 2 - Deploy and install the template as a farm solution, create the site collection, and apply the template
    I did the following.  After I did the first section (deploy and install the solution to the farm) I was able to go to "Manage Farm Solutions" in CA and it was listed there, but neither
    site.GetWebTemplates nor Get-SPWebTemplate included the site template in their list of templates.
    # Deploy and install the solution to the farm
    $template = Add-SPSolution -LiteralPath "C:\SharePoint\Student Site.wsp"
    $template | Install-SPSolution
    Do {Start-Sleep 2 } while (!((Get-SPSolution $template).Deployed))
    # Create the site collection
    $site = New-SPSite $siteURL -OwnerAlias $owner -SecondaryOwnerAlias $secondOwner -name $studentName -Description $description
    # Assign the template.
    $loc= [System.Int32]::Parse(1033)
    $templates= $site.GetWebTemplates($loc)
    foreach ($child in $templates)
            Write-Host $child.Name
            If ($child.Name.EndsWith("ABC")
    # the name of the template that I added ends in "ABC" - when this script runs I the name of my
    #added template displays as "{longGUID}#1ABC"
                            $template = $child
                            $templateID = $child.Name
    $template = Get-SPWebTemplate $templateID
    # regardless of whether I assign $template above or here the Set-SP_Web assignment below fails
    $web = Get-SPWeb $siteURL
    $web | Set-SPWeb
    -Template $template

    Out of curiosity, are you able to create a site within a site collection using this template? That is, can you create a site that is not the root site (e.g. http://sharepoint/sitecollection/Web)?

  • How to get flash template name from a site.

    Hello, I recently discovered a site and loved the gallery image used on the home page. I tried to find the name of the flash template used in the image gallery but couldn't find any way on the site. Could you kindly tell if there is any way to find the name of flash template from a site where it is used. The site link is dsm.com/corporate/home.html.
    If you have any idea about the flash template used in this site, please inform me. I want to integrate on my site. Thanks for your effort.

    you'd have to download and decompile the swf.  and that will only help if the template author left comments indicating the template's origin and the user did not remove those comments.

  • How to publish an Admin-Approved InfoPath template to 2 different site collections, and retain same internal column names

    Hi,
    I am wondering how best to publish an InfoPath form as an Admin-Approved template, to both Site Collection 1 (SC1) and Site Collection 2 (SC2). Some fields are promoted to SharePoint columns.
    I have already published my form to SC1, by choosing Publish to SharePoint Server > chose SC1 > Admin-approved > chose to publish to columns I had created manually on SC1 (these columns had relatively user-friendly internal names such
    as 'Form_x0020_Status' etc, which I reference in xsl + code). I then uploaded the template in Central Admin as Admin-Approved, and activated the feature on SC1. This all worked fine.
    However, if I then go to activate the feature on SC2, it creates columns with different internal names (GUIDs), which means my xsl + code won't work. If I try creating columns manually on SC2 before publishing, it still creates new GUID columns.
    This of course must be because on feature activation on SC2, it cannot find the exact columns specified in the template (which was published to SC1), so it creates new ones.
    In that case, what is the best way to publish an Admin-Approved template to 2 different site collections? One option is to create the columns using code, and deploy them to both sites as a feature, ensuring all IDs are the same. But should this be necessary, is
    there any option available using only InfoPath and SharePoint?
    Thanks for reading.

  • Templates Sizes?

    I take it Keynote only has one template size, 1024x768 4:3. Even if you make a costume size template on your desktop computer, keynote will import the template at 1024x768. So, templates with and aspect ratio of 16:9 is out of the question.
    I also notice when importing videos or photo. They are not imported at their current size. They have to be resized in keynote. Is this correct?

    I'm asking asking...

  • Changing Template for large intranet site

    Hello,
    I need to make template changes for a rather large intranet
    site. The templates affect the entire site that have several
    directories. Is there a way to do it by directory rather than the
    entire site at once?

    Yes. Consider this example -
    PARENT PAGE (index.shtml) -
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>I AM THE PARENT</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <!--#include file="foo.html" -->
    </body>
    </html>
    INCLUDE FILE (foo.html) -
    <p>Hello World!</p>
    > 3. Save the code in the templates that will be common in
    all files as
    > .SSI
    > file (.txt files?)
    You can use any extension you want. However, if these files
    contain
    server-scripting, then the extension would have to reflect
    that. In other
    words, if foo.html in the example above contained -
    <p><?php echo "Hello World!"; ?></p>
    then it would have to be named foo.php.
    > 4. Change all files that now use the templates to
    include the .SSI file
    Yes - or in the event that the includes were in the
    non-editable regions you
    would need to change the template.
    > 5. Rename the files using the .SSI files to have an
    extension of .SHTML
    The parent pages would have this extension or an extension
    that reflects the
    coding method used. Your links to these pages would have to
    change as well.
    Be aware that this will break any existing bookmarks to the
    now defunct
    pages, including those that have been spidered by the search
    engines....

  • Template Size Issues

    I have been having many issues with templates. I make a
    template and it appears so different in different browsers, then I

    The only way to open a location that is external to your domain would be if you use frames, and open that external page in a frame.  There are many complications that could ensue from your decision to do this, including size mismatches, inability to open the domain in a frame, etc.
    The only way you can control the size of an external page is if you also have access to that external page's source code.
    So, practically speaking, the answer is 'no'.

  • How do I set the screen size of my site?

    Hey guys making a site for a friend and I'm not sure on how I go about setting a screen size that can be viewed on varying screen sizes like 1280x800 and up. At the moment on my 1920x1080 display it looks fine but when I open it on her MacBook Pro (1280x800) it is cut of by half and my website has some fixed anchors which I do not allow scrolling so you are kind of stuck.
    Thanks to anyone that can help, can't find a tutorial anywhere

    In the normal state the screen on an iPad will rotate depending on which side is up. Any of the four sides can be up or on top and the display will look correct. But if you want to lock the display in one orientation you can. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the Control Center. Then tap on the Orientation Lock icon. That's the icon of the small padlock surrounded by a circular arrow. That icon will appear at the top right of the display and the screen will no longer rotate. Repeat the same procedure to unlock orientation.

  • Custom SharePoint 2013 workflow activities in site template throw error on site creation

    Hi all,
    I have created a number of custom activities for SharePoint 2013 Workflows and I am using them on an Office 365 environment. The custom activities are packaged as a sandbox solution and deployed on my Office 365 site. Everything works as expected.
    I have now created a site with all the functionality I need, including some Site and List workflows - all of them containing my custom activities. I saved the site as a template - including content - and the process was completed successfully.
    My problem is that when I try to create a site based on that template, I get the following error:
    Microsoft.Workflow.Client.ActivityNotFoundException: The activity named 'WorkflowXaml_66b9230b_823e_4783_82b8_daf481237847' from scope '/spo/d42a4487-9465-4347-9f2c-a2718e92fc02/74d0f9e7-fb35-493d-86fb-ab7aa27da7e0/c2e1bf45-cf67-4e13-9755-421cf92395f8'
    was not found. HTTP headers received from the server - ActivityId: 0997496a-5a15-4b83-82eb-727881eefa67. NodeId: . Scope: . Client ActivityId : c82f6e9c-9f8f-808b-7679-f2c0f92a339d. ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error
    After a number of trials and errors, I am certain that this relates to my custom activities. i have already tested all of the following scenarios:
    Delete the workflow with the custom actions: Site is created successfully.
    Create a new workflow with no custom actions and save the site as a template:
    Site is created successfully.
    Save the site template including a workflow with my custom activities, but not including content:
    Site is created successfully, but my workflow is not there.
    Create a new custom workflow activities sandbox with one custom activity that just writes something to the history list - just to make sure that this is not related to any specific solution. Save the site as a template:
    Site creation throws the same error.
    Packaged my workflow (with my custom activities) as a wsp from SharePoint Designer and deployed it as a custom solution. Activated the feature in the target site. The workflow gets created and executing finally. Saved the site as template: Site
    creation throws the same error.
    Same as above, but without activating the feature in the target site: Site created successfully, workflow works fine after I activate the feature in the new site.
    My custom activities feature is always enabled in the site I save as template - in all of the above scenarios.
    I have tested all of the above scenarios both on SharePoint 2013 on-premise and Office 365. There is
    a forum post regarding some inconsistencies in the wsp file, but unfortunately this is not my case. Am I doing something wrong? Are custom 2013 workflow activities not supported in site templates - which would not actually make any sense, as it would "break"
    the fundamental concept of re-usability.
    Any ideas/feedback/guidance?
    Thanx in advance
