How do I move multiple Divs at a time?
Hi,
I can't seem to figure out how I move multiple Divs at a time. I have resized certain Div in the middle and now I have to move all the Divs that are below it up to align it with that certain div again. How do I select and move all the Divs in once? I know you can move them one at a time by changing the position in the properties or just drag them in the design view, but I have a fairly large amount of Divs.
Thanks in advance,
ECbut is there any other way? Like changing something in the properties that will make the Divs bump up to the Div aoove that when you remove one out of there
I'm afraid not.
I imported the whole site as divs by splitting the images in photoshop and saving it for web and devices.
This is approach is OK for quick comps to show a client but definitely NOT suitable for a production site. As soon as you attempt to edit your layout, the page will explode and fall apart. This is caused by the rigid/fragile code that graphics apps attempt to generate based on the images sizes.
Start over. Use graphics apps to slice and optimize images only.

Template Update on Remote Server - How To?
When I make a change to my template, I get the popup window
that allows me to update the entire site or just files connected to
a template. But, that just updates files on my local computer.
I'm accessing the template file on the remote server and have
that open on my desktop. But, the template update just applies to
my local files.
So, how do I get the template to update to all related files
on my remote server? That would be correct. Templates have no function on the
server. Never
have.

I'm doing our company badges in Illustrator. I've created a template with 12 badges on one page. The only thing that will need to change for each badge is the name and photo. Then every year, alls I need to update is the expiration date. If I open this template, save as a new file, make changes to the template, will the file that utilizes that template update (like a template in Dreamweaver does)?
Thanks
EDIT: Just tested, doesn't work, I wasn't thinking clearly...duh opens a new document when opening that template. So I guess my question then is what is the best way to do this.Hello Tanya,
What you can do to update all the dates on the ID cards you can do the following:
Main Menu: "Edit" + "Find and Replace"
In the "Find" field enter the old date
And in the "Replace With" field enter the new date.
Finally select "Find" + "Replace All" + "Done"
In my versions of CS3, this fields of "Find and Replace" window are saved until your quit the program. In other words, you can open all the ID documents and the old date and the new date will be already set for you to just select "Find" + "Replace All" + "Done"
I hope this helps. -
Dreamweaver template update ftp files without synchronizing
Today I change Template - Update all files based on the template - synchronize entire site.
What I Like to do: change Template - Update all files based on the template
and then in the same window button with ftp upload changed files!
Why do I want this:
The synchronization can take time on big sites, I have cms and billing system on my site with many files.
The synchronization can take time on slow connection.
When the time betwen two synchronization is to small Dreamweaver select all files (or many) for synchronization. I do not know if this is only my problem (maybe there is different time on my computer and the server?).
Do we have solution for this today?
Or can this be something to suggest for next version?
Thanks for any suggestionNot sure if there is anything set up in DW yet, it does give a status window of what files were updated, you could possibly work backwards form that list (still a bit cumbersome). I also believe that if you change the template and upload it to your server, it will prompt you as to whether or not you'd like to "include dependant files", and (in theory) it will also upload the files linked associated with it... but that may need to be tested to see how well it works on a larger site.
As a possible alternative, you could use "Server Side Includes" - which is a single file which contains a portion of your page (the top navigation, footer area, etc.), and any page that uses this element will automatically update when you upload just that one element. Here is a link which explains it better: http://www.smartwebby.com/web_site_design/server_side_includes.asp and there are several others on the web that offer more detailed explainations - one caveat is that the web server you use would need to be set up to accept SSI... most do, but something you'd need to look into beforehand...
Hope that helps,

Problem with updated movies made in imovie 3.0.1
I recently upgraded to imovie HD from imovie 3.0.1. The problem is with my updated movies I made in the older version of imovie. This is hard to explain so stay with me... once HD has updated the movies, the clips (and the movie) seems to run slow and jerky (as if some of the frames have been omitted). All in all the image quality of the movie has suffered.
Hi Shawn:
Read this and quoting Dan Slagle (iMovie Guru)
I would also recommend FINISHING all you old projects first THEN starting new projects with iMovie HD. That or COPY the media folder from your old iMovie project to the new project folder.

CS4 Problem with Template Updates
There's another thread on this subject, but I couldn't see any final resolution.
I'm having a problem with Template Update.
I have all pages in site linked to a single template. I built the template 1st and then created each page from the template using normal method.
When I now make a change to the template, I save the template and it automatically saves and opens a box to select pages to update. I do NOT have to use the Updates feature on the top menus, but I have done that too just to try different things. When I select all the files, it updates them all, most of them correctly. BUT, one or several of them will have a NEW Main Content (and sometimes header) superimposed on top of the existing Main Content (or header). It shifts the page downward and to the right. By the way, down below the screwed section, the content is all still there and the original template is still intact under the screwed up area.
To fix it, I create a new page from the template and start over inserting the Main Content, which is nothing special, just formatted text. Next time I update, that same page will always get screwed up again, but sometimes 1 or more different pages will also get screwed up in the same way, always with a new nested Main Content area (on top of the original or sometimes pushed down half a page).
I thought it might be because of a nested Main Content in that section of the template, but I see none, or any other abnormal html. It does not do this to all 20-30 pages, just one every time and one or more random ones. I see nothing in html different from one page to the next.
Don't know how to attach documents to this, but I have the template and two of the screwed up pages to send.
Charlie
[email protected]The site is http://www.michaelchekhov.net
Public directory is /public_html, but that's the root, so the links below should work.
These pages are out of their normal directory, so the supporting links won't work, but you can see the code. Look at the home page and you can see what all the pages are supposed to look like.
The template which created the problem with the pages below is at /support/TEMPLATE index.dwt
The page that consistently fails is called poatool.html - the bad one is at /support/BAD poatool.html
A 2nd page that failed on that UPDATE is there also - /support/BAD bibliography.html
The currently working copy of the page that fails everytime is /articles/poatool.html.
Thanks.

I'm working on a site and didn't built the templates, but
they look right. For about 80% of the files, when you update the
template the files update correctly.
For the other 20% it updates part, but then reverts other
parts backwards. For example, I cleaned up the <body> tag in
the template and it didn't update on these 20%. I also updated some
links in the template and they got updated just fine in all sites.
Also in these 20%, when the template updates the files, it
puts back the JavaScript code in an editable area. It's not in the
template and was removed from the code, yet comes back each time
the template is updated. The other 80%, it doesn't come back. What
the ?!?!?!?
I've tried applying a new template and re-selecting the good
one and that updates the code correctly. However, next template
change, it updates some of the code reverts backwards other parts
of the code. I don't get it.
Please help before I go cRaZy.
Any idea what might be going on or how to stop it? I'm using
Dreamweaver MX 2004.This is usually an indication of hinky code somewhere. Can we
start by
taking a look at the template, please? Can you upload it and
post a link?

I have set up a template with a layout table and an editable
region. I now
what to increase the rows in the table from 2 to 4 (will prob
need to add
more later). I can do it OK in the template and when I save
it asks me to
update all files as usual. When I go into the main page that
I want to apply
pictures to the table, the table is still 2 rows only!! If I
create a new
page and apply template it works fine and if I alter anything
else it
updates OK. Any ideas? If the table is in an editable region in the template,
changes to the table will not replicate out to the web pages built
from the template. Since any and all of the content in the editable
region can be changed in a web page built from the template,
updates to the content in editable regions of the template itself
are not applied. -
When i create the template I put some flash movies, I create
my pages with this template and all work fine, but when I make some
change in the template and after update the pages. when I open one
of the pages the flash movies dont load. anyone can help me with
this. tanksHi,
You can't develop Windows Store app with Windows 7. So when you installed VS 2013 on a Win7, the templates are not present. Only the template compatible with Win7 are installed.

Template Updates Not Feeding to Page
The org I worked for changed locations, so I need to update the address on the bottom of one of our websites. When I change the template, it appears on index1.asp (the homepage) it does not feed to the rest of the pages. Here is what I do know:
- I did not change an editable field. It is in an area that is not editable except within the template
- When I make changes to the template and answer "yes" to "Do you want to update all documents in your local site that use this template," the "Update Pages" window says that 83 files were examined, but none were updated. (Usually when I make a change to a template, the number examined will match the number updated.)
This page was designed by an external web design company that designed some other pages for us, and I have never had this problem when updating other templates on these other sites.
Here is the website: http://www.cleanerairpartnership.org/index1.asp
Thanks!Looking at the index1.asp, it does not appear to run off of the template. However, about.asp
and other pages run off of the template. Here is about.asp:

<a name="About"></a>About Us </strong><br>
For more than two decades <a href="http://www.sacbreathe.org/" target="_blank"><u>Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails</u></a>, the <a href="http://www.metrochamber.org/" target="_blank"><u>Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce</u></a> and now <a href="http://www.valleyvision.org/index.html" target="_blank"><u>Valley Vision</u></a> have teamed up through the Cleaner Air Partnership to help <a href="http://www.valleyvision.org/capital/index.html" target="_blank"></a>the Sacramento Federal Nonattainment Area meet the clean air standards that protect health and promote economic growth.<br>
<br>
It’s a unique collaboration between the region’s major business organization and its major health and environmental group – groups that can be at odds with each other in other locales, but have been working together here since 1986 with significant results...</p>
<p>Our geographic focus includes portions or all of Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, El Dorado, Yuba, Sutter and Solano counties, and especially the large <a href="PDFs/CAP region map.pdf" target="_blank"><u>air basin</u></a> that they share. <br>
<br>
<a href="#Top"><u>Top</u></a><br>
<br>
<strong><br>
<a name="Mission"></a>Our Mission: </strong><br>
Our efforts generally center on programs that help minimize smog-forming emissions from mobile sources such as cars and trucks. We favor an approach that features incentives to reward cooperation, innovation and proactive efforts. </p>
<p>Our historic focus is reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx), which are one of the two major ingredients of ground-level ozone or smog. By working to reduce ozone pollution and NOx, we also help reduce two other major kinds of air pollution in our region: </p>
<ul type="disc">
<li>small particles or soot; and </li>
<li>greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide that are linked to global warming. </li>
</ul>
<p><a href="#Top"><u>Top</u></a><strong><br>

<br>
<a name="Work"></a>Our Work: </strong><br>
Our work includes:</p>
<ul type="disc">
<li>Fact-finding;</li>
<li>Public education;</li>
<li>Facilitation and building agreement;</li>
<li>Policy work at the local, state and federal levels;</li>
<li>Legislative endorsements at the local, state and federal levels;</li>
<li>Support for air-friendly smart-growth principles and their local implementation; and </li>
<li>Support for targeted research activities.</li>
</ul>
<p>It makes a difference. Our air is cleaner today than in past decades, thanks to efforts like the Partnership’s ongoing campaigns to enhance Smog Check and our promotion of diesel pollution-control incentives. But there's still more to do...<br>

Template Updates Erases Metatags
I added a new section to my site (around 100 pages). I than made a change to my template after this. When I saved and update my template pages in Dreamweaver CS5, it wentand erased all of my meta tags, but just on the recently added pages. What can I do to prevent this from happening every time I change my template? It has happened twice now.
This is my whole template code:

Wait - if you update the template, you don't need to update
the child pages,
since that happens automatically when you save the changed
template.
> I open any of the child pages, choose >Modify
Attached template
There is no such option.
What is it you are doing?
Anyhow, here are seven common mistakes that will result in
changes not
propagating from Template to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in
the site other
than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which
will not
propagate)
5. Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server
without also
uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template
and child page
is broken
7, Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the
template,
adding page specific content, and resaving the template with
an *.html
extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if
this is the case
by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything
like <!--
TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done)
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced >
Recreate Site
Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing
them. Have you
done any of those?
Or, read this -

I've trawled through this forum reading all the threads regarding this problem but unfortunately none of the advice given seems to have worked for me.
My problem is that whenever I update my template (dwt) my pages (html) isn't updates.
I've even goe as far as creating a completely new site and just testing out the template functionality...
1. created a new site (test_site)
2. created a simple template with a 2 row table. made the second row an editable region. (test_template.dwt)
3. created a new page from template (test_page.html)
4. back to test_template.dwt and edited the text in row 1 (the non-editable region)
5. hit save
opens popup: Update Template Files
Update all files based on this template?
test_page.html
hit update button
opens new popup Update pages
Files that use...
Templates checkbox ticked
Status:
Updating E:\Webserver\test_site\
just hangs here.
Tried to resolve this all day and am now left wishing I just did all the updates manually as I would have been finished long ago. However, this wouldn't be any good for future updates.
I've seen the following info posted on most of the threads, but none of the points relate to my site.

7, Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the template,
adding page specific content, and resaving the template with an *.html
extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case
by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!--
TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done)
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site
Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them. Have you
done any of those?
done everything I can think of
Renamed Templates folder to foortemplates and then back to Templates
Delete Win...cache.dat
Recreated my site cache
I'm exhausted of this problem but would like to know if anyone can shed any light on a possible resolution. I was contemplating buying CS5 but with nonsense like this happening I'm reluctant to upgradeWelcome to the Dreamweaver Forum!
You may rest assured that the problem is not with the Dreamweaver program, and if you are stumbling over templates in CS4, you will be stumbling over them in CS5... So all you need is a little more practice!
Do not ever rename the Templates folder.
At this point,
opens new popup Update pages
Files that use...
Templates checkbox ticked
Status:
Updating E:\Webserver\test_site\
One of your choices for buttons should be "Close", which you may do as soon as it is available, because the site has already updated the pages. You can wait forever, but since it has already finished, it's on your time, not the program's!
If the pages are open when you update, you must save them again. (The page names in the tabs will have asterisks noting that they need saving.)
I recommend making another test site and test page and trying again. Remember, don't rename the Templates folder, and as soon as you make a Child page (your number 3), save it.
In fact, it doesn't hurt to save frequently:
Make a page. Save it.
Then save it as a Template. DW creates the Templates folder and saves your new Template in it.
Make a child page. Save it.
Change the Template. Save it. (it should update the child pages upon this save)
Once you get the hang of templates, they are very useful. They can be a little frustrating at the beginning, but they don't usually require the great efforts you have gone through already!

Ipod Will not Update movies or playlists
I just got a new pc. Installed the latest itunes, used idump to move all my songs and movies to my new pc (created playlists manually), loaded them into itunes. Updated my ipod; all the music transfered on fine. But, I can't seem to get my movies and playlists to go on.
I decided to click my little ipod icon on the left hand side of the itunes screen. I then noticed that for some reason my ipod was set to not sync movies. I clicked it to sync, tried to hit apply... but itunes starts to update, my ipod never starts to update (never shows the 'DO NOT DISCONNECT'), and I get an error that says "-50 can't update ipod". Any ideas?Do you have iTunes 7? If not try downloading it. Then plug your iPod in, go to the iPod summary and you will see an update button. Click it and it should download the latest update. And i don't think the restore button updates the ipod, just sets the iPod to all the setting that it was on when you first got it. (not sure someone might need to clarify this)

We captured some test footage in HD 1080 @ 24p/sf at 8bit YUV. We can hear the audio in CS3, but can't see the video in the Source Monitor. We can view our footage in the Quicktime player, just not in our editor. Our video card is the ATI Radeon X800
