Templates! Ack!

Question

Can anybody help a newbie with a tight deadline and a
template issue (actually, several template issues)? I've got a
template created by two volunteers in two different versions of
Dreamweaver. I was getting "Unbalanced EndEditable" and "Nested
Editable Regions" errors when I tried to save the template after
making changes. I cleaned out the old #BeginEditable codes, but now
the template is making the doctitle appear at the top left of the
child page and the left navbar text is no longer centered, though
the align=center code is in there, just probably not in the right
place.

Secondly, when I tried to open up the child pages, DW would
ask me to save them as templates when I closed 'em up. So, I've
been opening up the page, detaching the template, then re-attaching
so that "TemplateBegin" is replaced with "InstanceBegin," etc. Is
there a quicker way of doing this?
Finally, the updated pages don't show any of the graphics
from the template. Here's a link to the home page of the new site:
http://test.rprogress.org/.
However, the page should look like the following (this is a
terrible jpeg, but it gives the idea):
http://www.rprogress.org/homepage.jpeg.
Why is this happening? How can I fix it?

Well, that code is about as badly mangled as a page can be.

This means that there was still template markup in the page,
making DW think
that they must be TEMPLATE pages, not child pages.

This is a terrible way to do things on a page with existing
content.
