Templates - CS4

Hi
I only seem to have (lots of!) templates for advertising. In previous versions there were quite a few more.
I installed from the full master Collection, & as far as I can remember, I just hit default & let it do its stuff. Should other templates have been installed by default - if yes (or if I should have selected an advanced install & selected them at the time) - do I have to reinstall the lot, or can I do it selectively??
Emma

Because you are using an element with all the same ID (div id="main"), you will want change that to make the ID the Editable Attribute. That way, you can define the ID in the page itself (Modify > Template Properties...) and indicate the background-image in your external stylesheet.
Here's a link for creating Editable Attributes: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7aa3a.h tml
This affords you off-page control (except for editing the ID on pages), an ideal situation with a Templated site.
On the pages, define your ids, set up following the instructions referenced above:
id="horsepage"
id="cowpage"
In the stylesheet, define your background-images:
#horsepage {background-image: url( your horses image path here );
#cowpage {background-image: url( your cows image path here );

  • Help! Background image + templates CS4

SO, I created a template. One of my editable regions is my main_image div. In source code view i have my main_image div tag and within it I have a text box div tag and scroll box div tag. In my CSS thats attached to this site my #main_image rule has a background-image property. Now, the thing im trying to do is to change this background image when I create new pages based off of this template that I created. I know I cant change it in the CSS because its the same CSS that is used throughout the new pages. I tried using editable attributes to change the background image generating :
<div id="main_image" background-image="@@(_document['backgroundimagemain'])@@"> but the background image still remained the same image when i generating new pages. I tried optional region, again no effect. I tried going into Modify> Template Properties in my new page and it says there are "no template properties available". There either must be some code to apply in the source code.
    Stuck.

  • How do you change the font InDesign uses when no style is applied?

All my InDesign templates (CS4) are now looking for [Times (T1)] in odd places such as spaces between words in a header, the space after the last period in a paragraph or blank returns between paragraphs. I tried all the normal suggestions (checking every character and paragraph style including "basic paragraph", selecting a font in the charater pallette with and without a document open, and even clearing indesign preferences and cache files). After all this, I created a brand new blank document to test whether or not this occured in anything other than my template files. I didn't create any styles at this point, just drew a text box and started typing. In the new document the first line is in the font I chose, but when I hit return the next is in Times. It appears that after the return InDesign switches from Basic Paragraph back to "no styles". Is there a way to change this default font or prevent blank spaces and returns between paragraphs from turning to this setting? Thanks for any suggestions. With one file it's not that big of a deal to find and replace but when you start working with a book containing many files it is quite a hassle to wade through the missing font windows in order to verify it is only this and not an actual font missing.

    With no documents open.
    Go the Paragraph Styles Panel
Clear Overides for the Basic Paragraph
    Edit the style
And change "Apply Next Style" to "[Same Style]"

  • How in Flash CS4 to change text words of .fla file from a website template?

I have a website template in which I am trying to change the header text words and menu text words to customize the template. How do I do this in Flash CS4? Thanks!

There are any number of ways these text elements might have been designed into the file.  So you pretty much have to search for things.  If you do not see the text that you want to change when you open the fla file, then you may need to either make some layers visible that are not (eyeball icon next to layer name) or you may need to look into the actionscript code to see if the text is being dynamically written when the file opens.  If you happened to receive any .as, .txt, or .xml files with the template, the text elements may also be defined in those files.
Just so you know, and this is just an observation, it appears from experience in these forums that template designers tend to make templates so that you are more likely to hire them to update things than to be able to solve it yourself.

  • Advice on creating an email template in CS4

I have CS4 and am pretty good at using it. I want to create a templet that I can add my product and send out as a news letter. I am not sure how to do this. Can I build one in DW and cut and paste in imail? I also want to add this buttons so I can get clicks to my site. I would like the button to be in a cell with a description. I would also like to have my logo and additional graphics. Here is the button.
    <div style='width:120px; height:180px; margin:0; padding:0; border:0; background-image:url(http://www.cdbaby.com/Images/Links/Black-Buy_Album_100px_vert.png);'><a href='http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/NelsonMay1' style='display:block; padding:44px 10px 35px; margin:0; border:0;'><img src='http://CDBaby.name/n/e/nelsonmay1_small.jpg' width='100' height='100' alt='Nelson May: Oceansounds - 60 Minutes of Ocean Bliss' style='border:0; margin:0; padding:0;' /></a></div>
    Cheers.

creating e-mail newsletters is quite complicated, if you want to do it properly. Even if you are good in creating websites with Dreamweaver, you may run into all sorts of problems when trying to create and send mailings. Apart from the design and coding itself, which should work in all e-mail clients and text readers you will want to manage your e-mail list, unsubcribes and bounces. You will probably also want to know who opened your e-mail and who clicked which link. Your best bet would be to use a service like http://www.mailchimp.com/ or http://www.campaignmonitor.com/
For the design you can use the free e-mail templates they offer, and change them using DW4 to suit your needs.
For sending your mailing and managing your mailinglist they will charge you a minimal amount of money, which is well spent considering what benefits they offer. You can try it out for free.
As far as your code is concerned, for e-mail newsletters you are better of using a table based layout to be sure your layout remains intact in all the diferent e-mail clients. Find some advice here: http://www.mailchimp.com/articles/how_to_code_html_emails/

  • Template url problem in Dreamweaver CS4

    Hi there,
Thank you very much for reading this post.  I am having a problem with templates in Dreamweaver CS4, I am following the correct procedures to build a template, but when I link the pages together and update the template, the url has not been changed/updated on the child pages.
    Here is an example:
    Template:
    ../content/section/pagename.html
    Child Page:
    /section/pagename.html
Missing out the first part of the link, when the pages are loaded, obviously, they are not going to the correct part of the website
Please, can anybody give me some advice, as this problem is very quickly, driving me mad.
    Thank you.
    John

I observe this problem too on my Vista x64 machine with CS4
using dual monitors and split code/design views, and have found
others who have this problem by searching Google.
Description of problem: Roughly 50% of the time, when
switching between files (regardless of type) and trying to select a
block of code with my mouse (dragging over some code with the left
button), it appears to work normally (the intended code is
highlighted). However, when then attempting to CTRL-C (cut) or
paste, the selected code instantly changes to a much larger block
of code (usually selecting a specific div block or something). The
cut or pasted code is then the larger (unintended) block of code.
Once the code view selection works for a particular file
(either it worked from the start or I poked at it long enough to
work), it seems to remain working until switching to another file
    and then returning.
Also, Dreamweaver CS3 didn't have this problem, so it's CS4
    only.
This is a workflow nuisance much like a word-processor
deciding to insert a % character randomly every 10 seconds while
    typing.
I found a Google groups thread
    here
in which a poster writes that deleting the Dreamweaver
configuration file fixes this temporarily (the problem eventually
shows up again, and you lose all your customizations by doing
this). The posters in this thread also describe the same problem
    with other hardware configurations.
My current workaround is to type return then backspace when
dropping in to the code-view of another file--kind of a pain, but
at least predictable. I also tried avoided the issue by: (a)
selecting something in the design view and then selecting something
in the code view, and/or (b) telling Dreamweaver to show the
"element view" (right click in design view, element view, Full),
but this latter action may be superfluous.
I'd be very interested if someone were to post a simple fix
    for this problem.
    thanks!
    JP
PS. David: I've learned a lot from your books. Thanks for
    writing them!

  • Photoshop CS4 web gallery template in Lightroom?

    Hi,
I have a custom web gallery template set up in Photoshop CS4. I would like to use it in Lightroom, but it appears the Lightroom web gallery templates are in a different format (and not so customisable). Is there a way I can use my CS template in LR??

    Thanks Ian,
I am trying out Lightroom to see if it can replace PS for my needs. So far its not looking good! Looks like I might have to upgrade PS instead. I am preffy proficient with PS and have several custom functions set up. My web gallery integrates with my website and has been developed over a time to get it just how I like it. I can also drop in and edit the HTML to tweak it as I go.

  • "locked by a template or translator" in Editable Region - CS4

    Hello,
I am working on a series of ASP homepages using repeating regions in Dreamweaver CS4. However, I am encountering "Making this change would require changing code that is is locked by a template or translator. The change will be discarded." errors.
On each homepage, I have two levels of nested repeating regions set up as "slides" (Top level) that contain "news blurbs".
Inside each news blurb repeat instance is an editable region.
A version of the news spotlight markup can be found at http://www-personal.umich.edu/~pborisov/etc/snippet.html
When I attempt to  add any new paragraphs inside a news item (<li class="blurb"></li>) in design mode, I get
an error message telling me that the area is locked by a template and/or translator. However, I can still type additional text
into pre-existing paragraphs, as well as insert images. Attempting editing in code view works also works.
Individuals that will be updating each page are going to be using design mode, so I can't go for the obvious work-around. I have no idea why the error keeps occurring. Could anyone clarify this?
Fixes suggested in other threads that haven't worked:
making sure the page has valid markup ( passes XHTML 1.0 Transitional)
ensuring that the region is marked as editable ( it is editable )
Current ideas as to potential causes:
something I missed in the code that's triggering dreamweaver to throw errors
nested repeating regions are somehow creating the issue
I am mostly sure that ASP is not causing this, as I have been able to reproduce the issue in an XHTML-only child page of the same template.
    Thank you for your help,
    Pabori

When the code looked like this, my editable regions were locked when I made a page off the template.
    <p><strong><!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="EditRegion3" -->EditRegion3<!-- TemplateEndEditable --></strong></p>
    <p><strong><!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="EditRegion4" -->EditRegion4<!-- TemplateEndEditable --></strong></p>
When I changed it to this, it worked fine.
        <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="EditRegion3" -->EditRegion3<!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
        <p> </p>
        <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="EditRegion4" -->EditRegion4<!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
I think it didn't like the <p></p> because it is a block element.
It didn't like <strong></strong> either, but I'm not sure why.
I am struggling with this myself so I hope you can let me know how this works.

  • Brochure Template in Illustrator CS4

I'm creating a brochure from the brochure template in Illustrator CS4. By default, it gives me 2 artboards with each divided into 3 sections. Also, the artboards are labeled as "outside" and "inside". The problem is, how do I know which side is which for each one. For example, as I look at the "outside" artboard, there is a left, center and right section, but is the right section the cover of the brochure or the left? And same for the inside? I'm confused. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
    JP

    JP,
The right section must be the cover, corresponding/opposite to the left section of the inside Artboard which will be the first (inside section) to see when you unfold the part with those sections (beside the left outside section still folded). A quick paper folding test should prove it.
The left/right outer/inner section (that goes inside) should be narrower by the way, or something is wrong with the template.

  • Where are user-created Flash CS4 templates stored --- On Mac?

The same question was asked and answered for Windows.  But on Mac, I went to the comparable folder en/Configuration/Templates/, and I found the pre-existing templates in the Advertising folder, but still not the ones I created.  Help!

I have had a hard time finding information on this as well. So despite how long ago the question was posted I am going to share the answer here to help others find this more easily. This was true for CS6, (I do not have CS4 to test) but would assume it is in a similar location.
    For Mac:
Open finder window > click "Go" at the top of the screen
Hold down Option and click Library
    Application Support > Adobe > Flash CS6 > en_US (your preferred language) >  Configuration > Templates
You should then see only the folders that you have created your own templates under.

  • MD Templates and PS Actions CS4 win-mac

Would like to migrate my PS actions and metadata templates between Windows and Mac machines, both of which are running PhotoShop CS4.
There are new procedures on my Mac which need to be retrofitted to my Windows machine, and older ones in Windows which should go to Mac, both without overwriting in case of duplicate resource names.
Would appreciate any information as to file locations on the Mac, as well as pointers to a safe procedure if this has been documented.

I would try updating the video driver directly from the manufacturer's website:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html#UpdateDriver
The other thing I'd do is go to Prefences>Performance... click on [Advanced Settings...], Choose "Basic" for drawing mode and restart Photoshop.

  • Contribute CS4 ignores template changes?

First, I'm new to Contribute. I understand the general idea
of what it does and how it works, but I'm clearly out of my element
on how it works with template files.
I'm setup as an administrator on a Contribute CS4
installation on WinXP. I can edit and publish pages with no
    problems.
Except this: When I modify the template files for the site
(obtained from the server, modified, and replaced on the server),
the new modifications are not appearing in the newly-published
pages. I've verified that I'm working on the correct template for
the particular page, and I've even made sure to "refresh templates"
a couple times in case that worked. I've even gone so far as to
find the drafts of the pages I've been working on and make sure the
templates stored on my hard drive are properly updated (they are).
Am I wrong to expect Contribute to incorporate updates to the
template file? Am I being a complete bonehead and missing something
obvious (wouldn't be the first time)?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've just had to update 100+ template based pages on a
Contribute site. I ended up having to use Dreamweaver exclusively
    for the change.
Contribute does not seem to be "aware" of template updates
when you update a template based page. When you edit a page based
on a template that has changed, it doesn't apply the change or give
you any means of applying the change.
Also, when I attempted to use Modify-Templates-Update Current
Page on a page in Dreamweaver using the File-Actions-Edit Page
Source in External Application, Contribute went, well, berserk,
acting like I wanted to change dozens of pages and files in the
site. Lots of manual clean-up after that.
So, I just used only Dreamweaver to update all the pages
based on the template, as well as updating the template itself.
It's possible to "break" a Dreamweaver template by updating the
    template with another editor.

  • Novice in CS4 need help resetting template look

I downloaded a dreamweaver template and had edited the look
and functionality of the site. While I had it open I opened some
drupal template files that opened in cs4 and I think changed the
code. My template is now plain looking and everything has moved to
the left. Is there a way to refresh the code to bring it back to
    normal?

We have no idea what might have happened from your
    description, or even
whether the two incidents are even remotely related. Please
    show us the
template page as a start. The best way to do this would be to
    upload it
somewhere and post a link to it.

  • Create document from template without launching Adobe Bridge (InDesign CS4)

When I select "New Document from Template...  while using InDesign CS4, Adobe Bridge launches instead of a search menu.
It's much harder for me to navigate through Bridge than it is with a standard New menu. How can I get InDesign NOT to launch Bridge when this happens?

Just use File > Open... and navigate to the template you want to use.

My sample templates are missing, all that shows now are Cateregory: Advertising and different size banners. I searched my harddrive and found the rood folder where they are stored but only the folder for Advertising exist.
I haven't deleted anything, so could it have been a glitch at installation, I had startup problems with Flash constantly crashing at the splash screen and finally had to uninstall and reinstall.
    Running WinXP SP3.

    Thanks for replying.
I do remember them being part of an earlier version maybe MX. Did some checking around as I was under the assumption they were part of CS4 due to some diagrams found on pages 264-265 of "Flash CS4: The Missing Manual". The bottom line is it is now listed in their Errata.
