Templates for existing pages

If I have an index.shtml page, that has some flash, and
dropdown menus, and on the left, a menu created in fireworks that I
exported into DW. The middle portion is the only area that changes
from page to page.
I want to make a template. These are the steps I have taken:
1. Open index.shtml
2. Save as template
3. Make the region in the middle "Editable"
Then apply template to page "Index"
Once I do this I can't edit anything, its locked?
Where am I going wrong. s it the way I have my layout tables
and cells.
I can't figure it out/

You have the wrong procedure. Never apply a template to a
page with
existing content (well, if you can avoid it, and it sounds
like you can).
Spawn the child page first, and then add your content to the
child page.

Sure editable regions should be editable. If you can't see
your content,
then something is wrong with your method or your code or
both.

Hello,
When I use the Administration Portal to create a page with portlets in the Portal Resource Library, I can choose to use that page it in my portal. The problem is that I can use it only once. How can I crate a page template with portlets so I can use use it as a template for many page instances in one portal?

As I understand, you want to update the template
for existed content type.
It can be achieved by programming. There is a
SPContentType.DocumentTemplateUrl Property, which can be used to update content type.

How do I change the template for a pages document?

Once you've opened it, the opened document is no longer a template. Edit it as you would any other Pages document.
If you want to use the edited document as a Template, then , after editing, go File > Save as Template, give the new template a name, and click Save.
The old template will remain available in the location where you found it; the new one will be in the My Templartes sectionof the Templates Chooser.

Changing MasterPage for existing pages

Hi,
I like to change to MasterPage for existing pages in an document, I found the IMasterSpreadUtils and OverrideMasterPageItem, but it didn't work here. Unfortunately I found no example in the SDK, does somebody have an example for me?
Or is there another (and better) way to change the MasterPage?

Apply Template to existing page problems

I've coinstructed a Dreamweaver Template (dwt) that I want to apply to existing pages in a web site. I have onle two editable regions defined right now, "doctitle" and "propertyinfo". When I try to attach my template to a page, [modify, templates, apply templates to page, select the dwt file, and click select] I get a window named "Inconsistent Regiopn names" which indicates two other editable regions, "document body" and document head". I've tried various combinations to the "move content to a new region" and get bad results in that other areas of my page are replaced.
Is there somethign I have to place in the page to resolve this? I'm very confused by this issue.

You're right on again.
Asking for the "body" and "head" regions threw me off and my tenacity kicked in. I played with that for hours until I came to the conclusion that producing an "empty" page from a DWT, then constructing each page from those was definitely the way to go.

Using blog template for home page

I'm trying to use the blog template for my home page, but the navigation bar disappears and some of the fonts change when I publish it to my folder. Anyone have experience with this?

iWeb appears to be picking up the font size and bolding from the previous text boxes, which are larger headings. The first few words or characters are bold and in the heading pt. size, then the rest of the text is OK. Originally, I had both the headings and text in the same text box. I separated them to try and fix things.
I tried changing the inset margin from 4 pt to 6. Didn't work.
I also can't figure out why my navbar doesn't appear on my home page (redesigned using the blog template). Oddly enough, if I load a different page and click back to my home page, the navbar finally appears, but that's no help if someone goes directly to my home page first.
Thoughts?

Templates for New Pages Not Updating

I am a site admin with 7 Contributors accessing my site via
Contribute 3. I have created templates for them to use to create
their new pages. These templates allow them to only edit text; they
cannot update styles or layout in any way. I have noticed that,
whenever I make updates to my templates and resave them out onto
the server, some of my Contributors will pick up the new template
and some will not. Is there any way to force them to pull the new
templates? I have asked them to all Refresh Templates before they
create new ones....they tell me that they have, but they are still
pulling the old template. This causes an issue because, if they
pull the old template, I have to open their page in Dreamweaver and
update the template. Doing this on 30+ pages each month gets quite
tiring and almost defeats the purpose of Contribute for me. Any
suggestions on this issue are much appreciated!

Perhaps - and this is just a guess - the template references
in the pages have got messed up. Something I've noticed is that
template names with spaces in them get messed up by Contribute. At
the top of each web page based on a template is the  tag. If the template name
in there contains spaces it will sometimes get URL-encoded, i.e.
spaces become %20, and then Dreamweaver no longer recognizes the
template name as matching the one you're editing. Best practice
seems to be a an all character template file name.

Created a page group and several templates.
Edit Page Group Properties, Configure, locate the Default Page Template drop list.
The drop list has only the templates from the shared object page group.
The online help states

Note: This list includes all the page templates in this page group and the shared objects page group.

I have several templates in this page group. Why don't they show in this drop list?

You have to make the templates public. Edit the template properties - on the Main tab click "Make Public".

How to determine process template for existing team project ?

I have existing team project ( TFS 2013 ) but I don't have information about which process template have been used.
Is there any way to figure out which process template has been configured in existing team project ?

You could also check the Process Template version If you have integrated TFS with SharePoint
Here are the steps:
Team Explorer->Click on Documents -> Expand Process Guidance ->Click on ProcessGuidance.aspx
Based on the process template you have used, it will redirect you the guidance page.
Example: You are being redirected to the guidance for the following process template: Microsoft Visual Studio Scrum 2013.4... (Here i have created a new project on TFS13.4 server with Scrum template)

How to reuse a custom template for multiple pages?

I have created a page using Blank - Layered Paper. I would like to create more pages with the same title heading and text box. Is there something comparable to a "save as" function or another way to do this without cutting and pasting in my heading and text box every time I make a new page?

Create another new site on the same domain file. Call it something like Template.
Create your template page in this site.
When you need a new page for your site, click on the template, duplicate it, drag it up to the top site and rename it.

Do not apply Templates for dynamic page

When i add a tag <ORACLE> ...</ORACLE> then all code before this tag don't displate.(I have viewed source after apply template but did't see code before Oracle tag).
Could you tell me the way to sovle the problem.

Template for multi-page flyer

Hi, I've had a request for a multi-page flyer. It will consistently have the realtors info, links to website and such, but he wants to be able to drop in different photos and text. I can lay all of this out in Indesign, and export as a PDF. The problem is I don't know what software he has, and what he will be adding the photos and text in.
Does anyone have any experience doing this and know what programs will work. I don't think Acrobat reader is equipped for this/

No Data found for region - For existing page

There are two pages (Search and Edit).
Search is made, on the result there is a link on Shipment no. Once user clicks it a Shipment edit form should open with default shipment.
This works fine when I run from Jdev (including link to edit and return back to search page).
But when I deployed to server, both works individually but when I click the shipmentno link on Search page to invoke the Edit page, it is giving No data found for Region error.
Can anybody please help on this?

Make sure the path specified for jdr_utils.printDocument is right!. This seems to be Oracle Seeded PG.
Might be able to help if you can post the exact import statement you have used to import your new PG.

Hi Vijay,
In case you just need template name and you don't want to load your asset, you can use <asset:list/> tag. It will only query asset table and will retrieve all the info abased on the criteria. In your case, you can use it in following way:-
<asset:list type="Page" list="pagelist" field1="id" value1="pageid"/>
<ics:listloop listname="pagelist">
<ics:listget listname="pagelist" fieldname="template"/>
</ics:listloop>
