Templates in LR3

Hi,everybody
Not only is the new interface for importing files NOT better, in my opinion, but I cannot find a way to get LR to use my previous file template - one created with a lot of thinking and effort. Any help?

No, I mean the template for FILE NAMES. In LR2 (of which I was up to date version) it gave me a chance
to add something to the name of the file during IMPORT. So, for example, all my files start with VExxxxDATE-imageNumber.CR2 - where xxxx can be replaced by any text. Thus, if I am importing a shoot of grasshoppers I can put GRASSHOPPER after the VE and before the DATE & IMAGE NUMBER. It helps me a lot to find files when I look at their names.
Also, you could enter KEYWORDS during import, I cannot find this now...
The new IMPORT interface is awfull. What designer's mind came up with scrapping a working effective setup and replaced with this ugliness, I don't know

Updating Print Template in LR3

When I want to update a print template, I right-click on it and select 'Update'. Then, it sits there making repeated disk accesses for over an hour and I finally
forced it to close.
Is this a bug?

Pretty sure this is not a bug. I wait about the same length of time for just about everything to happen. Some folks have told me it is because I've never upgraded from Windows ME, but I think it is just a conspiracy to get me hooked into a bunch of upgrades I don't really need. Besides I have lots of time for coffee and donuts this way.... .. .

Loupe Tool in Lightroom Web Gallery

I have created image galleries using the templates in LR3 for an artists website. She has asked me if it is possible to be able to zoom into the images to provide close up views. I am thinking a Loupe View tool would achieve this?
Does anyone know if a loupe tool can be added to a LR web template so when published, users could use this tool to view close up detail of images in the web gallery?
Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

In a HTML based page the fonts shown will always be dependent on the fonts installed on the end users computers. Whilst many LR galleries have the ability to select a font group that the respective end users machine may display by editing the page css style, I don't think the default html gallery that comes installed with LR has this.
If you want to make the change yourself you will need to recode the exported gallery files yourself. In the index file a line such as
body,td,th { font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; } should do it

LR3 Preset Templates - Printing

Hello, I am new to LR3 and have discovered I have no preset Lightroom templates in the printing module. Can I get these? Thanks

What's a lulu preset template? One can load document or PDF presets, or open InDesign template files (.indt), but you don't install them, and of course any template made from a newer version of ID will not open in CS5.5.

Creating a 16.9 slideshow template, LR3

I understand LR3 can save a slideshow as a 1080 HD movie file, allowing me to create a DVD of the slideshow. I'd like my slideshow to fit my 16:9 format TV, and wonder if I can create a template that is configured 16:9. The "widescreen" template provided isn't 16:9. Thanks for the help.

I guess slideshow aspect ratio matches that if the screen it's being made for (which really doesn't make sense for exported videos). So, seems like your only solution is to design the slideshow for a 16:9 display (if you happen to have on connected to your computer) and export from here.

Files Renamed when importing to LR4 and now can't find them in LR3

Help! What should I do???
Yesterday I installed LR 4 Beta. I had a folder with 300 images in it on LR 3, obviously all files had names. I imported these photos into LR4 to work with LR4 and they were renamed in the process. Now in my LR3 folder, all the files still have there old names and the "missing photo ?" and I assume that's because the name has been changed and LR3 can't find them. Any thoughts on an easy fix?

I must admit, I didn't pay too much attention when importing this "test"
group of photos to LR4, therein lies my problem. Now that I look at the
import settings that were used:
1. Files were not added or copied, they were "moved" to a new location and
also renamed.
2. Files were renamed starting with "264" using my regular import template.
Listed below are the first 10 photos with their original LR3 and he
changed LR4 names.
1201_001 changed to 1201_264-2
1201_002 changed to 1201_265-2
1201_003 changed to 1201_266-2
1201_004 changed to 1201_267-2
1201_005-Edit-Edit changed to 1201_268-2
1201_005-Edit changed to 1201_269-2
1201_005-Edit changed to 1201_270-2
1201_005-Edit-Edit-2 changed to 1201_271-2
I have a back up of my images on an EHD from several days ago which has the
original file names, but this backup only has 203 of the 268 images I
imported yesterday and are renamed.

Bug in Print Module, LR3.6, custom package

Hi everybody,
After two days of unequal fight with Print Module bug I hope I finally pinned it down.
Hope it saves someone time
I have my photos usually cropped in DSLR format (2:3)
Printing I use often two popular formats 13x18cm and 15x21cm that are close to 5:7 (first one is 5x7in)
Initially I was using virtual copies and had them cropped to 5:7 format.
However this makes a little mess in my workflow and it's time consuming.
What I found was Custom Package in Print Module.
Having cell with target size I drag desired photo into the cell and using cmd-key drag this foto to have proper look as the width target format is smaller. So far so good, but ...
From time to time printed photo looked totally different from what I saw on-screen.

There are visual samples there of what happens.
Photos in JPG file that was created from LR look differently than in LR. Photos in file are bigger or/and wrong positioned within the cell
What I managed to find is:
Everything goes fine until photo is rotated by 'Rotate to Fit' function. It happens in my case only with photos that have the same orientation that template.
Example:
Template is set on A4 borderless format set to portait (Page Setup... button).
Two cells 14,85cm height x 21cm width (A5 format). First one over second and both in landcape position.
When I drag photo cropped in Landscape orientation such a photo is rendered properly.
When I drag photo cropped in Portrait orientation it's atutomatically rotated 90 degrees (couterclockwise) by "Rotate to Fit option" and that is when **** happens.
Final print (to file or printer) shows that user dragging is omitted in render. What's more if "Photo border" is set to on, photo in this cell is not reduced. Instead of this (as far as I can see) photo border just crop some part of picture.
If I switch orientation of the A4 page from portrait to lansdcape, magically photos that are cropped in portrait orientation start to render good (they are not rotated now) while those in landscape start to render wrong.
This looks 99% as software bug.
I'm using LR3.6 on mac osx 10.6.8
I'd like someone to follow it and to check if the same happens on different Mac or Windows.

Confirmed in LR 5.3, OS X 10.9.1.
Screen display is fine, user repositioning is ignored when printing if page is in landscape mode and the image is rotated 90° (Rotate to Fit on). A4, Epson printer. Bug also appears in PDFs generated via the "Printer…" button. I didn't check JPEG export.

Print Module templates layouts do not update on the fly

Print layouts do not update on the fly when attempting to choose between various Print Module>Template Browser> Lightroom or User templates. This occurs in all three Layout Styles. The very first layout chosen in Single Image/Contact Sheet, Picture Package, or Custom Package is the permanent 'default' and cannot be changed. The Preview will show as expected however any image stays stuck in the very first layout I chose after installing LR4 beta.
For example, I first chose Template Browser>Lightroom Templates>Maximum Size, and Layout Style>Single Image/Contact Sheet. Clicking through any other Templates (Lightroom or User defined) will alter the preview but not the layout display in the Print window. Same problem in either of the other Layout styles. I have been trying for days to rectify this, but it seems somehow more difficult than LR3. and not what I expect.
As a comparison, using the same steps in LR3 works perfectly as all print template/layouts can be changed on the fly as expected. I have no problems generating different layouts in LR3 and have been using LR print module since version 1 without this issue.
Is this a bug or are there any extra steps or workarounds I have not discovered? Any other testers seen this?

iMac OS 10.6.8. 8GB RAM.Processor Intel Core 2 Duo. NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS.
The steps as follows:
1) Lightroom 3.6 & LR4Beta exist side by side.
2) LR4 Beta> Print Module;
3) From filmstrip choose image;
4) Template Browser> Lightroom4Beta Templates>Maximum Size;
5) Preview displays as expected;
6) Layout Styles>Single Image/Contact Sheets
7) Template Browser> Lightroom4Beta Templates>click through any other templates (Lightroom or User defined);
8) Image layout in main window does not update;
9) Previews update;
10) Layout Style>Picture Package;
11) Template Browser>Maximum size is then automatically shown, however the template in the main window is actually (1) 7x5, (2) 2.5x3.5;
12) Any further attempts to change the layouts regardless of Style Layout choices are not successful.
13) Close LR4Beta>re-open LR4Beta;
14) Repeat test;
15) Print Module layouts do not update on the fly as expected;
16) Close LR4Beta and all applications;
17) Reboot iMac.
18) Open LR4Beta only;
19) LR4Beta>Print Module>Template Browser >Lightroom Templates>Maximum Size;
20) Image displays in main layout window with Template and Preview display as expected;
21) Choose different image>Template Browser>Lightroom Templates>Maximum Size;
22) Click through templates, layouts DO NOT update in main window although previews do automatically update.
23) CONCLUSION - In Lightroom 4 Beta>Print Module>Template Browser, image layouts do not change after initial choice as expected.

No Lightroom Templates in Print Module Template Browser

I recently installed Lightroom 1.1 on a Windows XP Prof PC. Print/Template Browser/Lightroom Templates is empty, although other templates (e.g. Web) do appear when the appropriate module is selected.
I looked for these templates on the Lighroom CD, but didn't find any.
The folder C:\me\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Print Templates contains only another empty folder User Templates. Other folders do have templates, for example, Text Templates.
Do I have to do something special to install these, or if not, and they weren't installed as they should have been during installation, where can I find them?

What photograph size on what paper size do you want to print?
You can select Contact Sheet / Grid as you layout engine and adjust the number of rows and columns.
If you want to print different photographs at arbitrary positions, you'll have to wait for LR3.

Printer Templates Don't work in LR4

I just installed LR4 (windows 7 version) and the printer templates came in OK (it seems) they are there anyway and when I mouse over them the little display window at the top shows them changing but when I click nothing happens. Everything works fine in LR3.
A bit more: It seems that it will work sporaticly sometimes after I run LR 3 and pop through a few print templates in LR 3, then go back to LR 4 where tehy will work for a bit then it won't again. Very strange.

You can to try to set "Ruler Units". Sorry for my english.

LR3 Web Gallery Sequence Numbering bug?

Anyone else getting this problem with sequence numbering in the web HTML templates? Basically, as you jump through photos the photo number is always stuck on #1, never changes when you go to the next photo - should go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...
I just sent a bug report but, wondering if anyone else found a fix for this yet.
This is in LR3 on Mac - really trying to do this on TTG Highslide gallery but, same problem occurs in default Lightroom HTML gallery.

Concise problem statement:
Steps to reproduce bug:
1. Go to Web Module
2. Choose default HTML Gallery
3. Under Image Info set Caption to Sequence
Results:
Sequence caption always shows 1/total images.
i.e. 1/10, 1/10, 1/10, 1/10
Expected results:
Sequence should increment current image number / total images as you click through images.
i.e. 1/10, 2/10, 3/10, 4/10

Yeah, still have the numbering problem using the Image Info sequence outputs.
But, if you use the standard Lightroom Flash Gallery it has it's own sequence numbering output (that does not use Image Info captions) and it does work correctly. These show up as 1/9, 2/9, 3/9 etc. on each photo down by the back/next buttons.
Also, the Cell Numbering does work when using the Lightroom HTML Gallery - though, those numbers only appear on the index page not on individual photos.
But, haven't seen a good work-around yet for sequence numbering in Image Info area. Only option there seems to be typing numbers manually into the caption. Or, if you need the caption for other info maybe use one of the IPTC fields like Headline to type in your numbers. You can then do a Custom Setting in web module to have those text fields show up with your photos.
Really hoping we will see a LR 3.1 sometime soon with a fix - should be an easy correction for Adobe.

Hi guys, i work as a school photographer and was advised to get lr3 to arrange my packs

Hi guys,
i order several pictures of the same images eg a pack = 412x8's 6 7x5's & some smaller images on a 7x5.
I was advised to purchse lr3 to do this but unfortunately i cannot do it my experience with lightroom is very limited i have used cs for most of my photography work up to now.
Does anyone know how i can click on an image in the bar at the bottom then click on a template that i have made then save thse images to a folder containing all different sizes etc.

Someone suggested "use aperture" and while it's fine program, it's Mac-only and that might be an issue.
For Windows-based systems, you should look into a program called "Express Digital Darkroom" -- it's designed especially for event photography and is ideal for putting together different types of packages for things like school photography.

Rename individual files in LR3?

Hi all,
Can I rename individual files in LR3? I am aware of the batch rename options upon import and export. But I do a lot of small product photography and would love to do my renaming in LR3 instead of Windows Explorer.

Lr4 print template not saving 'Print Settings'

First of all ... I'm coming from Lr3 running in Windows XP to Lr4 on a Mac, and I'm still getting used to the way Mac OS does things, so bear with me ...
Since using Lr4 on my Mac, today is the first time coming back to a particular art paper. If I remember correctly, with Lr3 (Windows) the print settings "Page Setup" and "Print Settings" were combined into a single dialog of parameters. In any case, a defined Lr3 print template remembered everything (e.g., paper size, paper type, print quality, etc). However, I am finding Lr4 (Mac) only remembers the 'Page Setup' settings and that I will always need check and usually modify the 'Print Settings'. Is this a functional difference between Windows and Mac OS, or am I missing something? Or, did something go awry when I upgraded to Lr 4.1 RC??

Help...LR3 flash gallery preview not working.

Oddly enough, I had a similar problem with LR3b2, but solved it by allowing lightroom to connect to the internet (saving that setting on the firewall), but now that I've purchased LR3, the flash gallery preview is NOT working.
I've tried the following:
Switching from flash to html
using different flash templates
using different "airtight" options
rebooting the computer
reinstalling/repairing LR3
making sure I have the latest flash installed (I do)
Other things odd with it:
Product registration kept telling me that I was either not connected to the internet (and I am), or that the server is not accessible. Ok, so I try through adobe.com and it says the brand new serial number is already registered. So did it or did it not?
Further, I then tried using the F1 for help, and it said that help was not properly installed.
These problems I had before AND after the different options I tried, deliniated above. Can someone help me figure this out please?
And yes, exporting does work, and it exports fine, but the problem is in the preview.
Did Adobe put out a buggy installer?

UPDATE:
After a lot of rebooting, reinstalling adobe acrobat, flash, lightroom, and a lot of other trouble shooting typical actions, the Flash preview is now working.
The strange thing is, when I load the program, it tells me the catalog is being used by another program, and that I have to use another catalog...some of my settings are erased when I copy/paste the catalog and use the new one, but I don't know which program could be using a lightroom catalog (it's the only LR I have).
