Tempo of Apple Loop

Is it possible to let Apple Loops play on a set tempo (= not the tempo of the song and not the native tempo of the loop).
Technically it should be possible, since the Apple Loops tempo is flexible.
I would love to set the tempo in in the Region inspector.
Currently, when Follow Tempo is switched off, LPX needs to make an uncompressed file to allow us to stretch the region. (and this unfortunately changes the pitch... unlike Apple Loops do in the library preview...)

Unfortunately this doesn't work. But you can set the desired tempo and use "Bounce In Place" to "freeze" the loop.

  • Midi tempo/key Apple Loops

I tried working with Apple Loops and an extensive external midi rig the other day and came to an impasse at trying to do the following.
    Any suggestions?
I used a ton of Jam pack loops with original loops in exs24 and external modules
What I wanted to do is to only change the tempo of the midi tracks(ostinatto mallets) and leave the loops at existing tempo.
Basically wanted to double the tempo of the midi track against the existing audio loops...
Any way to lock the Apple Loops at existing tempo?
    thanks
    Pat

I guess you could do like this; Bounce the loop as a regular AIF and add to audio window, then bring it to your arrange again, and just loop it regularly. If you now change the tempo of the song - the aif will stay as it were (unless you click follow tempo...)

  • Why doesn't Logic recognize my loop as an Apple Loop

I have challenges with getting LPX to recognize my wav > aiff file as a bona fide apple loop that I can then stretch tempos.
I have a drum brushes loop that I exported in WIN7/Audition, saved as wav and moved over the my mac. Then I dragged it into LPX, found the correct exact tempo manually (60bpm) in order to make an Apple Loop. Couldn't do it with the wav so saved it as an aiff from within LPX. LPX sees the "tempo information" (not really) and then was able to drag into Apple Loops browser, still, didn't create the tempo meta data or whatever it does to allow me to stretch it. I drag the re-indexed loop on an audio track and it's juts the same 60 bpm loop. Changing my global tempo does not alter the tempo of the loop.
Appreciate any help it getting another 10 bpm outta this thing for a project. Took forever to find a decent ballad drum with brushes!
    thanks

OK that works insofar as it saves the file with no issues and I can drag into the track area (does say there is time data to import- "YES") but it doesn't change with global tempo changes.
Also maybe there is a problem with the index? I deleted the other attempts from User Loops >SingleFiles folder but LPX still is searching for the file at every index.
    So two problems now:
index still looks for older files
ALU is saving but LPX not changing tempo of Apple Loop
I read the manual re: file type.
The File Type tag determines if an application treats a file as a looping or non-looping file. Looping files are matched to the project tempo and key— if the Key tag is set to a value other than None. Non-looping files are not matched to the project tempo or key. (Untagged files added to a project are treated as non-looping.)
When I choose "Looping" in ALU, it changes the sound drastically which although would give tempo stretch, is probably ties to it thinking it's 120 bpm (and not 60)?
Yet it was recorded at 60 bpm.
The catch-22 is that the ALU can't recognize my tempo and if I change it (via choosing "looping", the only way to correct the beats btw) it messes with the sound because it's twice as fast.
Otherwise, as a non-loop, I'm stuck with only 60 bpm (even though it has "time data" to import)

  • Using multiple arrange windows + drag apple loops from one to another

does anyone or has anyone experienced this?
when you drag a apple loop from on arangement to another (both the same tempo) the apple loop will not cycle correctly, and audio instruments have to be shifted via the delay parameter for both AI and Apple loops to line up. this is a frequent accurance for me.

i resign this topic. guess i am the only one who uses this work flow. cheers.

  • Tempo setting when creating Apple Loops (Utility)

Having chopped a long audio file (drum track) into exact bar/beat settings, saved as separate audio files, I'm having trouble with tempo settings when creating Loops in Apple Loops Utility.
The problem is that after saving a looped file (from the Utility), upon loading that loop file into the Utility again, the (interpreted) tempo of the file is now doubled, which really screws up playback and placement of the loop file.
For example, my original tempo is 72bpm. I save the files as Looping, with the correct number of beats for each file (4 for a 1 bar file, 8 for 2 bars, etc.), and the tempo in the info section on the right side of the Utility correctly shows 72bpm. After saving the file as a loop, and then opening it again in the Utility, suddenly the tempo shows 144, and playback is at half speed.
Oddly, I was able to successfully do this to another track from a song at a faster tempo. In that case, the loop files open as expected. And I'm using exactly the same process this time... humm???
How can I get around this?

    Hi, thanks for the tip.
In this case, I have not added the loop to the loop library. Therefore it is not in the browser.
If I drag it from the audio bin, however, sometimes it will work. Other times it does not. I cannot seem to find a "cause and effect" here.
    Thanks.
What version of Logic are you running. It works fine for me on Logic 9.1.3 in 32-bit mode. I seem to remember having the same problem as you're experiencing in Logic 8.0.2

  • Apple loops not getting saved with current projects tempo

I can't seem to make an apple loop that would get saved with the current projects tempo....i recorded a single bar midi drum loop with 130 as project tempo but when i save it as an apple loop it gets saved with a tempo of 92bpm. strange thing is when i drag the same loop back on a instrument track it plays at the current tempo i.e., at 130bpm but if i drag it to an audio track it plays at 92bpm... really stuck here....any help would be greatly appreciated..thanx..

ok now i have got half of the problem solved....i had left the "follow tempo" region parameter ticked....so now when i unticked it the loop follows the project tempo....but i dont understand y does the loops get saved with a tempo of 92 whereas the project tempo is 130bpm....moreover when i audition these loops they don't really LOOP while playin back....

  • Apple loop not responding to tempo changes

apple loops that have been created from an audio file in the arrange window do not respond to tempo changes. when i had logic 7 there would be a change in the audio file from an audio to an apple loop icon. this is not happening w/ logic 8 although it appears to be saved in the apple loop window but still i have no access to changes being made there as well. what is thew problem?

  • 3rd Party AIFF loops tempo changes from loop library and Logic session

    Hi there,
Hope somebody out there can help me out!
I've recently purchased some 3rd party loops, some in AIFF and some in WAV (Which I have converted to AIFF using the Apple Loops Utility), and i have been able to get these into the logic Loop library successfully.....Or so I thought!
The problem I am having is that when previewing one of my loops it's often double the speed that the set tempo, and this will happen to ALL of my loops. But when I drag one into my session, Logic asks if it should copy over the automation data with it, click yes, and it plays fine in the arrange window. And funnily enough, all of my loops in the library start playing at the correct tempo!
Once this has all happened, i've tried quitting logic, and re-opening....but the issue just happens again....
Has anyone else had this problem, or have any idea as to what the issue may be??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • I can't find converted apple loops in the loop browser within Logic pro 7

    Hello There.
I've cereated some apple loops with the apple loops utility. unfortunately I am unable to find them in the loop browser within Logic pro 7.2.1.
I've scaned them using the project manager " so Logic knows about them"
but still didn't reflect in the loop browser.
Is this the normal behavior or what am I doing wrong.
I hope I am doing something wrong, as to me the main feature of the loop browser is to be able to audition the loops quckly at the song tempo.
    Thanks a lot in advance
    Cheers
P.S searched in the Forum but the answers arn't very clear
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.67 Mhz 2gig Ram

Just drop them on the Loop Browser and the rest should be taken care of.

  • Can automator turn thousands of samples into Apple Loops? (VSL rep/runs)

    Hello everyone,
First off, I'm familiar with how to build my own apple loops and find them to be VERY useful, especially in the application I'm about to describe. However, I find it quite tedious to build them manually, especially when dealing with thousands of samples. Thus I'm looking for the best/easist way to create apple loops, hopefully using Tigers "automator."
Heres my situation: I use/love VSL sample libs, which contain many articulations/phrases, but some of these are "tempo specific" such as the numerous instrument runs, repetition files, glissandos, crescendos, etc, and when doing a film score I cannot let tempo specific files dictate the tempo of the piece (the film does that). Thus I've started taking some of the VSL samples (especially the repetition and runs) and turning them into apple loops, which conform to the tempo of the piece. Within reason, the results are WONDERFUL allow me to continue to use these very realistic phrases at almost any tempo!
However, I've grown tired of manually converting these files to apple loops, and thus have only converted a handful of these phrases into apple loops. Whats worse is when I'm forced to stop the creative process to turn a phrase into an apple loop only to find that after all that time creating the loop, it doesnt work!
Is it possible to use Tigers automator to automatically convert .wav files into apple loops? This would be a great time saver, and would possibly allow for turning the thousands of samples into apple loops. Anyone currently doing this type of thing? Is it worth it in the end?
Thanks in advance for any help/tips you can provide.

    Hi Jonathan,
You can use Logic to create AIFFs of these files very quickly.
    Then, open them in ALU.
    Select all files.
    Change 1 field.
    Save.
You now have Apple Loops -- they will have a few few things automatically inserted such as guessed tempi -- they will almost always be set to 4/4 to the tempo closest to 120(?)... but they will load and many will load usably for your needs.
Now, I don't know exactly what you are facing with this concept but it sounds like a very big job and this will still leave much time hand tuning. If this is true, I recommend you have a look at Accelerando:
    http://www.eigentoneresearch.com/Accelerando.html
Accelerando contains several tools which will substantially decrease the tedium - and yes, it does use Automator. It works directly with Logic Pro, Apple Loops Utility - and more. Ultimately, you may be able to create workflows which handle this task with 1 gesture per Apple Loop - although a large library of workflows would be required to accomplish this to most users expectations so 2 or more gestures is more likely. of course, you can try to set up a more intelligent scheme if, say, the files can be filtered by an attribute such as their name.

  • New Apple Loop Created at Wrong BPM?

    Hi,
I've beat mapped an audio region, which adjusted the project tempo to about 122.5 BPM, which is the correct value.
I've trimmed the region to an even number of bars, and exported it as an Apple Loop as I have always done in the past.
However, when I go to open it up in the media browser, it says the BPM is 95, which is wrong. When I make it follow the tempo of another project which is also around 122.5, it makes it way too fast (it over-compensates since it thinks the loop is at 95BPM). I've tried it in the Apple Loops utility, and the same thing happens.
Any help is very much appreciated!

Set the permissions on the other volume's root directory the same as the boot volume.
    owner:root
    group:admin
    chmod 1775
Make a /Users directory on the other volume and
set permissions same as on the boot volume,
    owner:root
    group:admin
    chmod 755
create your new user directory in the /Users directory on the other volume.

  • Converting Acid Apple Loops -great App.!!!

Sample Manager does this perfectly! Once your Acid .wav files are converted to 44.1kHz aif Apple Loops with correct tempo & beat information, you can then load the files into the Apple Loops Utility for batch or individual tagging (genre/Instrument etc.). Once this is done & you've saved the results, you will have a new set of Apple Loops which you can drag onto the Loop Browser and they will be indexed perfectly.
Really, really useful. If you're not on Tiger yet-I'm not either- the Panther version of Sample Manager does the job with no problems. You might have to repair permissions before resaving the files if they came from a sample CD or commercial source (as they probably will).
    Nigel

STLU is that is places the loops in a folder entitled "Converted to Aiff"
I honestly didn't find that an issue. The folder was created within the folder which had contained the bunch of loops (AFAIR). And since the loops were now tagged, all I was doing was dropping them into the loop browser where they were sorted, searchable, and fully accessible.
Then again, this was not much more than an experiment well over a year and a half ago <shrug>

  • Apple Loops

Hey all, i have been successfully converting various sound files to apple loops (full disclosure i like making sample based hip hop, a la beastie boys, etc). recently when i am editing a piece of audio, rather than importing the correct region information into apple loops browser, i will go to retrieve the sample and the tempo will be different from what was assigned and there will be dead air at the end of the loop. i'm sorry if this is unclear, but any help at all would be much appreciated. thanks.

  • Apple loops sound warblely

When auditioning apple loops in LP8 from the loop browser I've noticed that some loops sound warblely, as if they are being stretched out too much, even when they are playing at the original tempo. What gives?

I'm having a similar problem with my Ipod. When I put a cd in and listen to it, it sounds fine, but then when i import songs on to ITunes, the warble appears in the background for some odd reason. It also transfers on to the Ipod itself so that you can hear the warbling on the songs on the Ipod. Looked at a couple of pages that supposedly had solutions, but nothing helped. What should I do? Thanks!!!
