Temporaray defeat

So I have a unix command now that enables me to turn the web proxy 127.0.0.1 on and off in my lab. Very nice to be able to quickly control your lab environment;however, A few bright industrious students figured out that if they simply go to the history menu...Wala they still have web games cached.
So My question would be is there a command line that I can use in ARD to clear the cache or history?
Currently using the command "networksetup -setwebproxystate ethernet on" or "off" as needed atm.

Firefox command has a couple of typos. Try this iinstead.
#Clear Safari Cache
rm -R /Users/*/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
#Clear Chrome Cache
rm -R /Users/*/Library/Caches/Google/Chrome/Default/Cache
#Clear Firefox Cache
rm -R /Users/*/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/*.default/Cache

  • I don't want my child to be able to defeat VPN.  Can I hide this setting? or can I PW protect it?

iPhones are not easy to use effective content filters.  OpenDNS and other similar solutions can control content coming in from wi-fi.   However, the cellular phone companies don't provide the predicatable contol or access to their DNS function.     OpenDNS has a new program called Umbrella.   Targeted at large corporations to solve a multitude of issues, they also make this expensive program available for $20 for single iphone users.    It works great on both wi-fi and ATT data (in my case.)    However, it can be defeated by simply turning of VPN services.
I would like to find any of the following solutions.
    1)   iphone VPN that cannot be switched off once enabled.
    2)   Password protection for the VPN setting  - (I think apple goofed by not providing this)
    3)   The ability to "hide" the actual display of the VPN screen.
Any thoughts from the many with mightier minds than I?

There is nothing you can do...there are no apps like that unless you jailbreak your iPad.
    Hope this helps you.

  • How do I defeat or whitelist the "Firefox has blocked this site from loading another web page" function?

Often when I click a link within a web page, a message bar appears at the top of the page saying "Firefox has blocked this site from loading another page" or something similar. This happens frequently on banking or credit card sites. This is particularly annoying because it seems to disturb the operation of the link when I have to click the "Allow" box on the message bar. I would prefer to create a whitelist for this feature so it would not interrupt my banking operations. Failing that, I would like to know how to toggle the feature on and off. Failing that, I would like to know how to defeat the function.

    See:
*Firefox > Options/Preferences > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

Keep an eye on this bug.

It doesn't defeat the purpose to lower the resolution. When you choose the size you can read, the extra pixels are used to make the text and graphics more detailed, closer to the high print resolution humans have been accustomed to reading on paper for hundreds of years. That is the difference compared to the coarse screen resolution of a conventional (non-Retina) screen.

What printers besides Hp will work continuously with an i-pad?  I tried Canon and Epson and both time-out after a short period of time rerquiring the user to re-initialize, which defeats the purpose of wireless printing.  Please help, Apple can not.  Thanks to all.  Art

Canon support told me that the I-pad printer driver would not work with any printer, including HP.  They offered to fix the problem for $50.  I turned them down.
If they really could fix the problem, they must be saying to update the printers firmware. Look on the cannon website & update the priners firmware.  While you at it, update the routers firmware.

  • Sites defeat open in new tab

Some sites are defeating [Ctrl]-click to open in New Tab (my Firefox setting). In these sites [Ctrl]-click causes the original page to open.
I have to use the [Right-Click] Context Menu, [Open Link in New Tab] option.
    Here's an example site: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/videos/
[Ctrl]-Clicking on any of the individual articles below the main video just reopens the same page, using Context Menu works.
Any way to fix this behavior? To have ALL sites comply with my Firefox tabs setting?

Each site that does this does it a bit differently, but the bottom line is that a script intercepts a regular click, Ctrl+Click and Shift+click and replaces them with a new behavior (in this case, adding the video number into the address of the page). As you discovered, you can bypass this script using the right-click context menu. Another method is to "middle-click" using the mouse scroll wheel (if it's a mouse with a scroll wheel).
I'm sure there's a crafty way to strip the scripts off of the videos, but I haven't tried to program one.

  • IPad 2 playing of all music videos in the folder is not possible. You can play a music video (all purchased from iTunes) but once is finished you have to manually select another one. This defeats the whole concept of having a music video library

How could we play all music videos within the music folder in the iPad2 ? In other words, select all, choose random, and click play and all music videos will automatically play upon completion of the one been viewed without the user having to deselect another video manually (annoying interrupt).
Currently you have to choose each music video and upon completion choose the next one manually. That defeats the whole concept of a music video library.
This does not happen on previous iPad or MacBook Pro iTunes!!!!!
    Very annoying.

  • ADE reader defeats the purpose

Have been trying to send feedback to Adobe for ADE but apparently Adobe isn't interested: ADE isn't included in the list of software in the feedback form. Am hoping that perhaps someone is listening in here.
Here's my beef: I am a firm supporter of DRM, but Adobe's ADE is so bad of an ereader that it defeats its own purpose.
My book uses multiple images, most of which are screen shots of instructions and so legibility is critical. Many images have a height of 800 pixels and are thus too tall to fit on a typical 15.4" laptop screen, smaller tablet or mobile phone; and images set to 600 pixels wide are too wide for small devices. So in order for the images to be scaled, I cannot set a fixed pixel size; I have to use "height=100%" or "width=100%" value. Unfortunately, ADE interpolates the images so badly that they look like crap. I would expect ADE's image handling to be on par with at least Amazon's Kindle apps, but no; Kindle apps mop the floor with ADE.
If I then use a fixed pixel size so that the images are not interpolated, tall images are cut off the laptop screen at about 650 pixels while wide images are cut off at the sides on smaller devices. And unfortunately, ADE doesn't allow the user to scroll down between pages, or from side to side; it only jumps from page to page.
It's the same with the Nook, Sony, and Kobo for PC apps that can read ADE DRMed books: on my 15.4" laptop, the Sony reader app cuts off images taller than 525 pixels, and Kobo and Nook apps cut images off at about 500 pixels high.
Users can install popular free programs such as Calibre, which has an ereader that scrolls down as well as jumps from page to page. Unfortunately, Calibre cannot open DRMed ebooks. Ditto for Sigil.
So now the tablet, PC, or mobile user has to find an ereader app that will both open ADE files AND either does a better job of image handling or has a scroll function for viewing tall fixed-pixel images. By this time the user -- who has most likely purchased the book through Kobo, Nook, or Sony and is trying to read it on their app -- has said "screw this" AND is cursing the book publisher and vowing never to buy a DRMed book again. Or has gone instead to find an app to remove the DRM, again defeating the purpose.
Since the majority of tablets and all laptops have a screen width equal to or greater than 600 pixels, one can safely use a fixed image size for anything 600 pixels or less in width and not suffer the horrible uprezzing that occurs if one uses a "width=100%" value; and just leave mobile phone users to suffer.
But with tall images, it's not so simple. If ADE would just allow downward scrolling, the problem would be solved: one could safely use a fixed pixel value and let the laptop user scroll down through the image.
So why has Adobe missed such an obvious feature? And until ADE does a better job of image handling, its ereader will continue to be subpar. It's not good enough to assume most people have a dedicated ereading device; many are using tablets and it's as if Adobe is pretending these consumers do not exist.

I understand your frustration.  However, you're blaming the wrong things.
I don't think you understand a lot about ADE.  And I think you're confusing
much about the industry standards with what ADE does and is designed to
do.  Also, don't confuse ADE the epublication management software with DRM,
which is a set of specifications implemented by the Adobe Content Reader
software.  It's only a 'library management' application.
Let's look at your prime - perhaps only - point: 'oversize' images.  You
haven't told us what format the ebooks with these images are in, and I'm
going to guess that it's a .pdf, because many textbooks use that format.
ADE does not support some of the functions in the more advanced versions of
.pdf (see the HELP section for the specifics).  Neither do Amazon, SONY,
B&N and Apple.  That doesn't prevent a publisher from putting them out
there.  You can say that they should, because, after all, .pdf is an Adobe
format.  However, ADE was written in the 1990's, so its basic framework is
more than a dozen years old.  Lots of things change during that time.  The
latest version of Adobe Reader 'might' do the job for you.
Although old, Adobe hasn't kept ADE static.  ADE has embraced reader
software on tablets - Aldiko is the most popular.  But it doesn't support
most of them natively.  And it doesn't support all manner of other devices
    - Apple's to be most obvious, but other Android powered devices also.  So,
ranting about what ADE 'should' do is probably not going to be productive -
it is what it is, and it's going to stay that way.
Yes, you can decide to 'eliminate' DRM protection - there are several
programs out in cyberspace that will do that.   And they all are helping
you break the law if you decide to do that.  But what does that
accomplish?  Not much, because there are better options.  If ADE isn't
doing it for you, try one of the other software suites that do the same
job.  Despite your comments, Calibre has a wide range of features that may
help your situation.  Bluefire Reader and Overdrive are the others I'd
suggest looking at.  If the ebooks are DRM-protected, each of these other
packages have implemented DRM protection according to the same rules that
Adobe used in ADE.  They have to - it's the way that the industry has
implemented copy protection.  Apple, SONY, B&N and Amazon have implemented
DRM differently, and their formats are not compatible with ADE.  However,
you can use them with their ereaders successfully.  I don't know, however,
whether they'll be any better at managing the images.  Try the latest
version of Adobe Reader if the texts are in .pdf format.  That might work
    for you.

yes, that is exactly what mine did too. I noticed that something is wrong after receiving calls and did not hear anything.

  • Defeating In Memory Replication

I have some questions about in memory servlet session replication in
weblogic 5.1 clusters. It seems to me rather easy to create a scenario
where the session is lost. While the servers in a cluster do a good job
maintaining session state within the cluster while machines leave and
join the cluster, the web server proxy in front of the cluster relies on
state (a cookie) from the client to find the cluster server that has the
session state. There is no way for the cluster servers to stay in sync
with client cookies if the client make infrequent requests.
I hope that someone can tell me that I am wrong but please consider the
              following scenario.
There is a cluster made up of 5 servers.
There is one weblogic web server acting as the proxy in front of the
              cluster.
A web browser makes connection #1 and causes the creation of SessionA.
Server1 is the primary node for the session, Server2 is the backup.
Server1 is taken out of service. Server2 is now the primary, Server3 is
              the backup.
Server2 is taken out of service. Server3 is now the primary, Server4 is
              the backup.
The web browser makes connection #2. Its cookie refers to Server1 as
the primary and Server2 as the backup. This cookie state is stale, the
proxy server does not know where to go and the session created in
              connection #1 is lost.
Am I right? Will this scenario lose the session?
              - Kevin

Replication has been designed with failures in mind but not controlled

Al that is left are the standard fixes:
    - Reset the dock
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Summary about table upgrade defeat

    Hi,
I hope this summary is useful for our OWB guru here who is going to upgrade tables in PROD environment.
    1. Deploy table with action of 'Upgrade' can only be completed through GUI rather than OMBPlus.
This is a known limit of OWB.
    2. Deploy to File doesn't work (a potential bug, I guess). (Igor, are still looking into this?)
If you are tring to workaround for #1 above by generating script via 'deploy to file', you'll find there is no upgrade scripts but create scripts.
    3. Never try to upgrade more than one table via GUI Deployment Manager because it shows 'Failed' but it's actuall successful, which will scare your DBA who is responsible for the deployment. (Igor already open a bug in metalink)
If you have 30 tables to upgrade, the best way is to deploy those in 30 times. No kidding.
4.Must be careful to upgrade tables like this: Drop a primary key as OWB is too smart.
Case: One table loading failed because data violate the primary key as it's actually duplicate in that column.
Action: Drop the primary and then deploy the table by upgrade. Deploy is successful but the loading will be failed.
Cause: The generated scripts first try to drop the index which was created with the primary key. Then it drop the primary key. So far so good. Next, it try to create a Unique Index AGAIN, on the same column, which resulted in failure on INSERT DUPLICATE VALUES in the later loading. Is that OWB too smart?
We report this TAR on Meta Link at early Oct. but still on Research.
Workaround: Manually drop the index after deployment and then start loading.
5.Must be careful to upgrade tables like this: Add columns in a table when a.) newly added in column will be part of the primary key, and b.) there are child tables referenced to this table.
As same as #4, OWB will first drop the FK for all the child tables, but it will add those FK back with as same defenition as before, which will surely fail you upgrading for non-matched primary key.
Workaround: Manually drop the related FK before deployment.
I opened a TAR about this on metalink two weeks ago. It's still on research by the way. Thanks Igro and Jean and other experties in this group, who always give much quicker solution and answer than metalink.
DW project is always in incrementally chaned status from release to release. Fairly speaking, OWB is very good in change management, flexible location, etc... However, something like this sort of defeat really make our developers panic. Looking forward seeing these fixed in Paris version.
    Regards,
    Daming

    Hi Jean,
    Thanks for your explain.
What I'm tring very hard to do is to deploy 'upgraded tables' by scripts instead of by GUI.
However, 'deploy' via SQL scripts generated by OWB is not the solution I'm looking for because it bypass the OWB deployment mechanism and nothing I can see from the audit browser. The senario is that only DBA has access on Production environment to do the deployment and I can see the deploy status adn execution after that through Audit Browser.
That's why I was trying to 'deploy to file' and then deploy from file in OMBPlus which didn't work for me. Please see detail informatin about this in the URL:
Re: Deploy from File for table Upgrade
I really appreciate if you can point out me some approach to reach this goal as my next version realease date is coming soon.

  • Safari "swipe" defeats log off of sites.

Is there a way to prevent Safari 6 from permitting a 2 finger right swipe from going back to a page within a logged out site? Even with "Private Browsing" enabled, I seem able to defeat my bank's logoff routines.  The "Back" list does honor the logoff, however.
From a security point of view, I would likely vote "no confidence" if there is no remedy to this "feature".
    R K Hoke

    Hi
OK, just answered my own question. Check box in Reset Safari.
Safari continues to accumulate image files regardless of the Reset action.
If you are using High Speed Internet, you can stop the image and file accumulations as follows:
First, in Safari, open Safari Reset in the Safari Menu. Select "empty the cache", and "remove all web page preview images". Select "reset".
Next, go to the Finder. Command/3 to open in Column mode.
    In Your User Account>Library>Caches>com.apple.safari folder:
Single-click on Web Page Preview folder, then Command/I to open the Info panel. Lock the folder.
    Same with the cache.db file.
Also, in Caches >Metadata>Safari folder, move all the bookmarks files to the trash, then open the Info panel for the Bookmarks folder and lock it.
The result is no more accumulation in Caches, Web Previews incl cover flow and Top Sites. I've had these folders locked for over a week now with no adverse affect on Safari performance.
I haven't tried the above for History as I use it.
