Temporarily turn off photo stream without losing pictures

Hi, I have photo stream turned on my iphone. I recently took a huge load of pictures and I want to review it on bigger screen and delete some. To airplay on bigger screen, I need to turn on wifi on my iphone to be on the same wifi network as my apple TV. however, as soon as I turn on wifi, my iphone will start uploading every picture (even the crap ones) to icloud and push to all my other devices, which I don't want to see happen... When i try to turn photo stream off in my iphone -> settings, it warn me that all my photo stream pictures will be deleted.... why is it so hard to temporarily disable photo stream synching? or am i missing an obvious way? thanks!

Because there is no "temporarily" turning Photo Stream off.

I am wondering how I can turn off photo stream on my iPad and iPhone without permanently deleting the photos on my MacBook pro. When I try to turn off photo stream, it says it will delete my photos.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Import them into an event(s) before you delete them from photo stream

  • TS1503 If I turn off photo stream on my I phone 5 will I loose the pictures in photo stream and  camera roll?

I have duplicate pictures in my camera roll and photo stream. If I turn off photo stream will I loose pictures in both areas?

If you turn off Photo Stream, all photos in Photo Stream only, will be removed from your device.

How do I turn off photo stream on one computer without deleting the photos out of the rest of the devices?

Go to control panel, search for 'iCloud", double-click iCloud to open the iCloud control panel for Windows, then uncheck photo stream.  If you want to keep any photo stream photos on your PC, be sure to copy them to a separate folder (outside of the photo stream folder) before unchecking photo stream.

  • Turning off photo stream on a lab of iPads sharing an iCloud account

I've turned off photo stream in iCloud on a lab of 30 iPads using the same iCloud account.  In the iCloud settings though, it shows that Photos is on even though when I tap Photos it shows Photo Stream is off.  What can I do to really turn it off?  Is it possible there is another device outside of the lab using this iCloud account that has photo stream turned on?

You can't save photos in iCloud that are not also on your device.  If you delete them from your phone, they will also be deleted from iCloud and they will be lost.  Normally, you would save them to your camera roll (unless they are already there), then import them to a computer as explained here: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support.  If you don't have access to a computer, you'll need to upload them to a different cloud service prior to deleting them, such as Dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/en/help/84).
Another option is to save any photos in your photo stream that are not already in your camera roll to your camera roll by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos you want to save, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  Once they are in your camera roll, you can go to Settings>iCloud and turn off photo stream.  This will remove the photo stream photos from your device (and free up the space they are using) but you'll still have them in your camera roll.

I have turned off photo stream on my 4s 7 ios but the icloud photos are still on my phone taking up data space, HELP!

Welcome to the Apple Community Ed.
They sound like they are in the camera roll or synced from a computer, rather than in photo stream to me.
My webpage here might help you understand the various ways photos can be saved on your device and some of the advantages and disadvantages associated with each method.

  • Turning off Photo Stream

If I turn off my photo stream in the iCloud settings will this erase all my pictures on my device or just my photo stream folder?  I think I know the answer, but would hate to loose all my pictures.  Thanks!

It won't erase all the pictures on your device.

  • Can I turn off mu iCloud without losing all my documents on my iMac?My iCloud window popped up unexpectedly, and am worried about a hacker. HELP.

Can I turn off, or remove myself my iCloud account, without losing all my documents on my iMac? My iCloud window popped up unexpectedly, and am worried about a hacker. When I try and sign out of iCloud, The iCloud window is giving me a message that "If you turn off Documents & Data, all documents stored in iCloud will be removed from this Mac". I have iMac OS X 10.7.5, 2.7ghz, Intel core i5. I don't use my iCloud service, and I somehow my iPhone linked it to my computer by mistake. I don't want the service or need it, & don't want my info in cyberspace. I don't want to lose my documents on my hard drive, and it appears that I haven't used any data in iCloud, as 5GB of 5GB is available. HELP.

I would love to hear that Apple has remedied this problem. From other discussion strings that I am following related to this issue, it seems thus far we remain out of luck. I did discover that if I log onto iCloud.com I can access my files that way.  Still, what a pain.
When I got the message re iCloud Drive as I was setting up my phone after the update to iOS8, it said I wouldn't be able to access my files unless all of my devices were running iOS8 OR Yosemite. That message was misleading as it really should have said all devices need to be running iOS8 AND your mac needs to be running Yosemite, as it was not an "either or" situation.  So frustrating...

  • Can't download all photos from phone to mac, should I turn off photo stream?

I took my mac air, iPhone 5, iPad 2 into the Apple store last week. We set up Photo Stream. Now I can't get all photos off my phone so that I can share them on FB. I can see them in the phone but they are only on laptop in the Stream not on hard drive

Make sure you have the iPhoto/Photo Stream preferences set to import all PS photos:
Be aware that many users are having problems with uploading photos to Facebook from inside iPhoto on their Macs.  The workaround is to export the photos to the Desktop and upload them to FB with your browser.

Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Can you turn off iCloud Drive without losing data?

I enabled iCloud drive but then discovered through some articles that one should not enable iCloud Drive until Yosemite comes out and all of one's devices are running iOS8 and Yosemite on their computes.  Since enabling iCloud Drive I am missing Photostream and Pages docs that I had on my phone and god knows what else. When I went to try and turn off iCloud Drive (so I can then wait until Yosemite comes out before I re-enable iCloud Drive), I get the following message:
"Are you sure you want to turn off iCloud Drive? Some changes have not been uploaded to iCloud. If you turn off iCloud Drive, these changes will be lost." Immediately below that message is a red message that says "Delete from iPhone."
What exactly would be deleted from my phone if I turn off iCloud Drive?  What changes does the message refer to?  Why can't I just return my phone from iCloud Drive to the regular Cloud so I can access my Photostream and my Pages data?  And why on earth did Apple not alert us to the issues we would face with iOS8 if we install BEFORE Yosemite comes out?  This is so frustrating!
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Teresa

  • Turning off photo stream or lock it out..

I recall in previous version of the Apple TV software you need to sign in to iCloud/.Me to share and see photos through Apple TV. That's no longer the case it just lets you in without asking for a password even when signing out.
    Something of a privacy issue.
Can it be locked out or exclude Apple TV from Photostream?

I turned it on, but discovered there's a option to hide Photostream on the Apple TV menu. I don't use Photostream on Apple TV so I hid it.
    Thanks.
