Temporary blocked website

Hi,
I've a problem with Safari, on os x mountain lion. When I visit some websites, sometime the webpage get locked without any error message. Simply, the page don't get updated, no refresh, the address bar appear like loading, but it doesn't load and the problem remain for some minutes.
After some minutes, the website get unlocked.
Specifically, this problem comes out when I tried to surf quickly through a website (i.e., clicking back and forward button, refresh, ecc.)
I'vent made any detailed test. The problem could depend from internet connection, but I tried to visit the same webpage from an another device (like an iphone) and the webpage works. The same I tried on another internet browser, like Chrome, and it seems working (but I should verify better).
So I think the problem is related to safari or osx, a sort of firewall that block an excessive traffic, a flood, to a website.
How could I resolve?

It sounds like you've successfully isolated this behavior to Safari.

Blocking websites on it's own but letting ads through that should be blocked by my Add-On

Firefox keeps blocking websites with the "mixed content". I can't watch Netflix and it is even blocking things on this website. I also have an Add-On to block ads but now ads keep getting through everywhere I go. I have ran multiple anti-virus and anti-malware scans but nothing has come up.

This is how you enable content adviser User Configuration -> Administrative
Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer -> Internet Control
Panel -> Content Page
Cant see a way to edit the content thereafter via GP however

Hey guys,
How can I block some websites to open in iphone's safari. by block I mean, block for good, with authorization (using a password) to unblock the websites perhaps. I've been trying to block adult websites (I've got my really demanding reasons), so it would be better to be able to block websites by genre not by specifically adding them one by one. any help please ?

Not any way that I know of. You can suggest that Apple add this feature: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Or you can return the iPhone (if you bought it recently) and cancel your contract, or sell the iPhone and get one that has this password protected website feature. You'll need to do a little research as I'm not aware of one offhand that supports this. Do you have one in mind that you highly rank?

How to temporary block list of web pages?

Hi While working I need access to web pages (I am developing web applications) but same time often I got distracted and spend my time reading interesting articles on web instead doing my job. I was using LeechBlock addon for Firefox, but now I migrated to chrome. So my question is:
Is there simple way how to temporary block list of web pages for all browsers?
It is OK to block http/https access only, but no problem to block all traffic from/to this sites. I need to by able to easily start/stop this block.

No. Each domain has (or has not) its own IP address. The IP address of a parent domain has no influence on the IP address of subdomains.
If you want to be able to use willcard, the best way is probably to base the filtering on HTTP level traffic.
That is directly in the client (firefox/chrome extensions)
Or, using an http proxy (squid).
Or, may be, using iptables with rules that match the URL.
eg
sudo iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -m string --string "google.com" --algo kmp -j DROP
will block outgoing traffic matching "google.com". You can of course tune better rules.
sudo iptables -F OUTPUT will flush all rules.
You can then add many "iptables -A OUTPUT" lines in a script, and associate a key shortcut to this script...
Well, an extension to the browser is probably preferable. I give this solution only for the fun

Sophos uninstaller says "Sophos Anti-virus is not installed" but sophos still blocks websites.

Hi, I downloaded the free (trial?) version and didn't like it blocking websites. I dragged the app to the trash and, of course, it didn't uninstall. Looked it up and got a (I think there are more than one) remove tool for sophos but it says it can't find sophos on my MAC. Yet, when browsing the internet, sophos still blocks websites. Any suggestions? I'm a little frustrated. Thanks in advance, Willie

Sorry you're having trouble. If you uninstall by dragging the app to the trash instead of using the remove sophos tool, this sort of thing unfortunately tends to happen.
One thing I wanted to mention is that if you don't want Sophos to block websites, you can actually disable the web filtering feature. All you have to do is click the sheild icon > preferences > web protection and toggle the switch to 'off.'
Another question, I was just curious if you were having trouble with Sophos blocking sites that you thought were safe? We should only block you from accessing malicious websites, so if we were interferring with accessing "regular" sites, you can let us know which sites were incorrectly blocked, and we'll take another look at it.
All that said, if you just want to remove Sophos there's a couple things you can do.
1. Restart your mac, reinstall Sophos, and then once it's working properly, use the 'Remove Sophos Antivirus' app to remove it
2. Manually remove Sophos
- Open Activity Monitor and stop any processes with "Sophos" in the name
- Open Finder, and remove everything in the following list:
/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus
/Library/LaunchDaemos/com.sophos.*
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.sophos.*
/Library/Preferences/com.sophos.*
/Library/Logs/Sophos Anti-Virus.log
/Applications/Sophos Anti-Virus.app
/Applications/Sophos Remove.app
/var/db/receipts/com.sophos.*
Note: You'll need administrative rights to remove most of those files. Then reboot, to ensure everything is cleared from memory too. Then run through the list again, to ensure you got everything.
Warning: Be cautious when deleting things in some of those directories. Not everything in there is related to our software - our files contain the name "Sophos".

I have Cyberpatrol installed on my grandchildren`s computers. It has many options including time, website and program restrictions.
You can hide the software from the user, and it cannot be un-installed without a password.
You can download a free trial.
The BT parental controls are are a bit awkward to administer, but are free, but not as comprehensive as Cyberpatrol.
OpenDNS can restrict websites, but cannot control access times.

u can configure the router to block the websites...to do this , follow the steps below :
1)open IE on the hardwired computer..and go to http://192.168.1.1 . Keep the username blank and password is by default "admin"..however, if the password was changed during the installation, u need to logon using that password...
2)once on the web interface, go to the "access restriction" tab and under the "internet access" subtab , u can create an access policy as per your requirement ...

Can't Block Website With WRT54GS

I have WRT54GS version 6. 1.52.2 firmware. I've searched everyone but I can't block websites such as youtube.com and crunchyroll.com . I've enabled policies, i've made 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.0.250 ip rangers. ive done http://www.youtube.com/ , youtube.com, and youtubes IP.. It still doesn't work. What's up with this? Since you're unable to do it from the router, an alternative is to do it locally on the PC by editing the Hosts file.
Benefits of a Hosts file
For Vista
You'll need to go to each machine and make the changes. If the users figure this out and if they know how they can just remove each entry. As long as the accounts that they are using to log onto the PCs don't have administrator rights they won't be able to change the hosts file.
To add the site you want to block type this:
127.0.0.1 *.website.com
Afterwards remove read, write, and modify permissions for the Everyone Group to prevent users from editing the file. Give it a try if you feel comfortable enough with doing so.
