Temporary blue screen right before my desktop loads?

When I restart my imac, a blue screen appears for about 1-2 seconds before my normal desktop image loads. Is this normal?

Yup, no problem.

  • Does anyone else see a blue screen just before leopard loads up?

Hi just wondering Does anyone else see a blue screen just before leopard loads up? It when i start my cpu after the apple logo and spinning wheel, then it goes to a blank blue screen for a second, then the desktop. Just wondering if that was normal. Thanks

Yes, it is normal for a Mac to have a blue screen during start-up.
You may also see it change colors from blue to gray.

  • My imac just started taking a long time to turn on.  First I have a grat screen, than a gray world globe , a blue screen and finally my desktop.  A total of 4 minutes.  What is wrong and what do I do?

My IMac , just started, taking a long time to get to the desktop.  First I have a gray screen, than a gray screen with a gray globe, a blue screen and finally my desktop.  Takes about 4 minutes.  What is wrong and what do I do?

Once the desktop is up and the iMac ready to use, open Systeem Preferences (Apple menu) and click the Startup Disk item. In the new screen, make sure that OS X on your hard drive is selected in the top row - click it once to make sure. Then test.

  • Hanging on blue screen just before desktop launch

    Hello,
I am a bone head and in System Preferences>Accounts I deleted/changed a few things and also changed permissions to the main hard drive (command-i), because I have two computers and I was trying to network the two computers over my airport, and I was trying to grant more than just access the drobpox to both computers.
Well My Tower I just finished reformatting, and reinstalling everything because it was hanging on the blue screen. Well my laptop is doing the same thing now. How can I avoid a reformt/reinstall scenerio at this point?

You can't. When you do bonehead things, you pay the price putting things back the way they were. Bootable backups/clones on separate HDs would mitigate redoing things from scratch. Sorry, I can't offer more help.

  • Blue Screen right after the start up logo

Hi. My first post - I've looked at other blue screen posts on here, but mines I think might be simplier to identify compared to other ones I seen involving flickering off the apple menus etc. (fingers crossed)
Last night I was archiving a lot of mpegs (and other video files archiving through winzip) to save room so that I'd enough room to allow the use of my new Lacie DVD rewriter (as it needs a lot of free space to use) after half an hour of archiving, I decided to watch a DVD instead and was watching on the DVD Player, once I got pretty tired, turned it off via the power instead of actually exiting the DVD player then going to "shut down" (lazyness on my part).....
This afternoon I go to turn on my Mac - I get the "Mac OX" start up with the blue progress bar at the start - no problems there, everything seems to be OK... Then after the Mac start up logo has gone, the whole screen is blue... I can still move around the mouse etc.... I have tried a restart with the command R+P etc... and tried to hold down the "C" button while having the instalation disc in after a restart to use one of the utility check things on the disc but it doesn't seem to even launch the disc.. It just starts as normal with the mac loading logo thing,, then straight onto the blue screen.... I have a lot of CD lists, and a lot of crucial info I need so replacing it isn't really an option although it would be no trouble if I didnt have anything needed on there.. Any help is greatly appreciated

I solved the problem yesterday (well a friend of mine did)
    1) He started up the Mac Mini WITHOUT the install disc in, and as the Mac OX launch screen came up - he inserted the disc then
    2) This allowed the reader to read it at this point (which is more ideal and suited) rather than the start of the power up..
    3) You will hear the reader reading the disc, making noise etc. by then you push the "C" button, and the options came up for picking a language, once I did it went on to the usual utilys on the disc 1 installation disc
    4) Unfortunatly I re-installed the whole lot (whcih took around 20 mins to complete) which earesed all the data
    5) Good thing though was it worked after it, all fresh, and saved me a very high charge of 95.0GBP to fix it, and possibly more for any kind of data retrieval I wished to have saved
ps) it might also work by pushing the "C" without the disc. But the way I was doing it before was that I put the disc in, switched it off, and restarted with having the disc in right away to think it was the more precise way to perform what was needed, however it was not

    Hi Alex
Please write to us which notebook model you have. Did you upgrade some hardware components? Is some external device connected to your unit while you try to install OS?
Usually every notebook delivered with WXP MCE can be preinstalled with WXP. The drivers are the same.

  • Startup issue - blue screen freeze before login - Safe Boot works fine?

I've not seen this before and I can't fix, wonder if anyone has any new suggestions, here is what I've tried so far... (safe boot works fine)
    1. Verbose and Single user login
    2. removing the startup folder from disk library
    3. Zapping PRAM
    4. Reset SMC
    5. Zeroed disk and reinstalled system
    6. Target disk and disk repair (No Problems Found)
    7. Permissions repair (No Problems Found
    8. Apple Hardware Test (No Problems Found)
    9. System DVD Startup - Disk Utility (No Problems Found)
    10. Network Startup - Disk Utility (No Problems Found)
In every case unless I hold the shift key down for safe boot, the mac will freeze on a blue screen when the grey screen disappears, and never proceed to login. Thought about replacing the disk but it's a lot of bother on these machines and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it??
    Any ideas?
Can anyone think of a possible fix not listed above?

    Hello chip
The only thing I see missing from your list is, have you disconnected all External HD's, iPods and other storage devices befor Starting up? Sometimes when the iMac has multiple storage devices connected the Startup Manager will get lost.
Also try going to: Startup Manager in System Preferences, select the Macintosh HD and restart the iMac..

  • Black screen appears before a page loads, but this does not happen in IE

When a page of a website opens, it displays a black screen and then loads that page in Firefox 3.6.11. But the same does not happen in IE. I don't want that black screen to appear on my page.So please provide me with a solution as soon as possible.
And my page layout also gets distorted when viewed my firefox but not in IE. Please do the needful.

Thanks for your reply. I tried the same way but there is no option "Use hardware acceleration when available". Is there any other way out from my code or other Firefox settings as the page loads instantly on IE but on Firefox initially a black screen comes and then the whole page gets loaded. This page is built using java applet. Thanks in advance.

I'm having a very similar problem.
I've got a 2010 iMac that I've got hooked up to my Pioneer Elite via HDMI cable using the Moshi adapter.
It's been working great for months, but today the audio began dropping out -- a fraction of a second, every six seconds or so.
I installed the latest Snow Leopard update today. Does anyone think there might be a connection?
    thx!

  • My ipod touch is frozen on a blue screen when i tried to load skype.

it just wont do anything, i pushed the home and on/off button at the same time but nothing. what can i do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Blue Screen with cursor on launch and after clean 10.5 install

    Hello,
An interesting problem cropped up on my iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor). The machine booted normally, apple logo, spinning wheel, etc. However, when it reached the blue screen right before the desktop would normally load the machine would stall, and all that would display would be a cursor, which could be moved around the screen.
I inserted the DiskWarrior repair CD and was able to navigate my way through the various tools. Menus, windows, all visible. Restarted the computer same problem.
Inserted the Mac OS X 10.5 DVD, along with the C key, same problem, blue screen.
Installed a fresh copy of 10.5 from another computer via firewire disk mode (both computers were PowerPC). That worked fine, but upon restart exact same problem except I can hear the mac os x 10.5 theme in the background and eventually a short talk about VoiceOver.
I've read a few forms online about how the G5 iMacs can be effected by logic board or video card problems that could result in something like what I'm experiencing. However it seems strange that DiskWarrior works just fine. I've tried resetting the NVRAM (through open firmware), PRAM (command-option-p-r) and the SMU.
Any suggestions to this mystery would be most appreciated. Is it more likely to be a Mac OS X 10.5 problem or a iMac problem?
    Best regards.

Sorry, I meant to post this in the G5 iMac form - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1981037&stqc=true

  • Start Up Issue-Gray Screen, Apple Logo And Cognition Wheel-Blue screen before start up at times but no longer starting up beyond gray screen and cognition wheel

    Power button pressed.
    Start up light okay
    Chimes okay
Gray screen, apple logo and cognition wheel spinning and the loading bar underneath loading 1/10th of the way.
Loading bar doesnt load fully and then disappears.
Gray screen remains with apple logo and cognition wheel only.
No start up to desktop. Before start up to desk top which is not happening any more a blue screen appeared before the desktop appeared. When start up complete the ' Finder' had no responded and did not work' Multi coloured loading pointer continually turned. ' Network' could not be loaded in 'System Prefrences'.
Ive tried reading and following propts...Results NVRAM/PRAM - Logic board battery replacement. How much will this cost?
Hardware test - No problem found
Safe Boot - ' volume Machintosh HD could not be repaired.'
' Run time corruption detected on Machintosh HD device'
What do you suggest aside from taking it to a apple store?
    Thanks Stephen

Lion or Snow Leopard? If Lion, boot into your Recovery partition (hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting) and use Disk Utility to verify and, if needed, repair the boot volume.
If Snow Leopard, use the installation disc and use Disk Utility in the same manner.

  • Powerbook g4 stuck on blue screen

    I have a powerbook g4 15" 1 ghz.
It has been running slow and the hard drive makes running sounds when nothing is open so I thought I would re-load the OS which is OS 10.5. So I got the original disk that came with the computer and loaded it into the DVD drive. I opened the disk image and hit the icon for loading the OS. It re-starts and gets all the way past the chimes and the grey screen with the apple but freezes at the blue screen right before it seems it should show the desktop. There are no sounds coming from the drive it's just frozen. What should I do now? Anyone?

At this point I would run the Apple hardware test. Since you have the original OS X disks, find the first one that should say 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label, probably on the first disk (maybe the one in the system!). Insert and reboot while holding down the alt/option key, choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow pointing to the right, and when prompted choose the extended test. Does it complete and does it identify any hardware issues?

  • Blue screen after upgrading to boot camp 3.0 (snow leopard)

after updating my vista ultimate 64 to the latest boot camp drivers, i experience a blue screen right before logging in (5 seconds after the password requester appears), the error is "systemserviceexception" i tried to uninstall all the apple stuff in safe mode, but boot camp itself and the updater can't be uninstalled, i also tried to start from a fresh copy of vista, installing as the first thing bot camp, same blue screen.
So i reinstalled and updated to sp1 and other patches, then boot camp, and got blue screen... now i am installing selectively only the drivers i really need from the SL dvd, i am tired to reinstall.
