Temporary dead pixel in Photoshop CS5

Hello,
I got some strange bug.
There is a white dot appearing on my screen right after I open any file or preferences window.
The dot turn grey if I drag something white under it.
The dot shows itself only when the PS app is active.
Even if I just click on my desktop wallpaper "through" PS making it inactive - the dot disappears.
Activating PS back - returns the dot.
I figured out that it happens when PS switches from integrated to discrete GPU.
Some more strange behavior:
- If I force to use only integrated GPU before starting PS there is no dot
- If I force to use only discrete GPU before starting PS there is no dot
- If I use dual monitor configuration before starting PS there is no dot
- If I unplug second monitor during PS session the dot appears
- If I plug second monitor during PS session the dot doesn't dissapear
- If I reset or delete preferences in PS folder it switches to discrete GPU on launch and there is no dot. But after closing and restarting PS with preferences saved it starts with integrated GPU and switches to discrete on opening file or preferences. And the dot appears.
Tried to ask Adobe Support and Adobe Community. No solution.
Any idea on what's going on and why is it started only now?
No changes to PS preferences or to system were made.
It appeared just during one of PS sessions.
Thanks.
My specs:
Macbook Pro 17 late 2011
2.5 Mhz I7
16 GB RAM
Two drives SSD + HDD
Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.5.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 12.0 x64

Well, after all I want ot find out what is the root of this bug. Is it a software bug or a hardware malfunction.
It doesn't seem like a hardware malfunction to me, because the dot appears in one exact place.
If it would be some sort of VRAM problem - then it would be in different place each time, because there is a random information allocation in VRAM each time it loads into.
So it looks like a software or driver bug.
The problem is localized and here it is:
- PS CS5 in current situation doesn't switch to discrete GPU during launch
- If something switches graphics to discrete GPU when PS CS5 is already running - the dot appears in one exact place only when PS interface is active.
It could be new file creation, file open, going to PS preferences, or it could be other application that switches GPUs, or manually through deactivating energy saving options in system preferences, or manually through gfxCardStatus application or any other way to switch GPUs when PS CS5 is opened and hasn't switched GPUs during its launch.
Is that's a normal behavior for PS CS5 - not to switch GPUs on launch - I don't know.
I know that if reset preferences on launch or delete it manually - first run of PS CS5 is with GPUs switch during launch. After closing it and opening it next time - it doesn't switch GPUs during launch no more.
So the questions is what is broken now. If PS always before switched GPUs after launch - then it could be some sort of driver or hardware problem.
If the behavior of PS changed somehow and before current situation it switched GPUs always on launch - then it's a PS problem.
Or maybe some sort of other problem, that I don't see yet.
I haven't found any other program, that switch GPUs after launch, so I can't test it.
If you know any - please tell me.
If anyone of you use any versions of PS on dual GPUs macs - please tell me if your PS switches on launch, or after. You can use gxfCardStatus for that kind of check.
Well I'm going to make a clean install of OS and reinstall PS if there will be no other answer.
I'll share the results.
I've already tried to install Mavericks and Updates over current installed OS, reset NVRAM and SMC - no result.

  • Installation Issues Pixel Bender Photoshop Cs5

I have read previous threads with the same issues installing Pixel Bender in PH SC5.
I have Windows 7 and I have Photoshop CS5 Extended and I also keep getting the error message of not having permission to install the software.
I am not computer friendly so perhaps I need more simple instructions to get this to work.  So I understand I have to right click on Adobe Extension Mananger 5 to run as administrator.  Does that mean I fist have to download Adobe Extension Manger 5, open the zip file and click on the SET UP folder?
Then download the pixelbender plug-in AND WHAT?  I went this route and double clicked on the plug in which opens Adobe Mananger 5 which again tells me I have no permission to run it.
Please be as simple as possible and step by step, apparently this is an issue with a few other people.
    Thank you for your help!

this is a common issue, please see the discussion in this post to the forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/751576?tstart=0
I moved this thread into the PS plug-in sub forum. This issue has been addressed a few times here. If the post I mentioned doesn't answer your question, please take a look at some of the other threads here, they may solve the issue for you. If you are stuck please reply and we'll help you out.

If you didn't have the opportunity to deactivate the installations then you should contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations for all the serial numbers involved.
Chat support - For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...
Make sure you are logged in to the Adobe site, have cookies enabled, clear your cookie cache.  If it continues to fail try using a different browser.

  • Busted Transparency/Pixel Grid in Photoshop CS5?

I'm hoping someone can help me out if its a preference, or if its a bug in Photoshop CS5... If you check out the image below, the faint white lines outlining the pixel grid from CS4 are perfect, whereas in CS5 they're horrible. I'm on Mac OS Snow Leopard with Photoshop 12.0.2.
Can anyone offer any insight? I'm really tempted to go back to using CS4 because of this. Hopefully it can be fixed soon...

  • Problems with pixel bender toolkit 2.5 for photoshop cs5

hi, i just installed the pixel bender toolkit 2.5 and i am trying to use it on photoshop but it won`t appear on the filters menu, and there should be a folder named Pixel Bender Files in the photoshop cs5 folder but there isn't any.. so what is going on???

It will NOT work, PB has been totally ruined.
So what I did was to upgrade to PS CS6, and its there in the filter menu.
I didnt get back to this forum till today, and sorry I didnt get the info to post ready.
Ive used the oil paint filter a lot since, its worth the upgrade to PS 6. But its nasty of them to take stuff out that we like to make us spend more $.
So, Warning,,,,,Im going OT here,,,,,,Apple has stripped out some of our old and favourite things when we upgrade to the new OS 10.9(Mavericks), and we are very unhappy with what they have done. Ive found some workarounds, but the really eyecandy stuff is gone from our screen savers, Mosiac, and some other things.
Is this cost cutting? Nope, not with AAPL, they have penty of dough.
Is this just youngsters in the app developing work who have not used the older and nice stuff?  We dont know, but what ever you do, DO NOT give your older Macs away, as you will lose some of this fun stuff, and Adobe better learn too, as we oldsters use the old stuff. I dont like the Cloud prices either, so I upgraded all my Adobe stuff before they did that.
And do NOT get rid of the old PSE programs, as you can scan paper money and I use it for my web page background images, but I do distort it.
Im getting off into a rant, so I must stop, but I think these companies whoare making lots of money and have good products, should not mess with the good stuff. Hang on to your old programs and your old computers!

  • Where is pixel bender directory used by Photoshop CS5.1 (from Creative Suite 5.5 Web Premium)?

CS5.1 does not appear to use the Pixel Bender Files directory in the Adobe Directory.  If I add a new pixel bender filter (.pbx) to the other filters in that directory, it does not show up in the Pixel Bender Filters Gallery from within Photoshop.  Actually, the listing of the filters from within Photoshop Pixel Bender Filter Gallery and the filters in the /Adobe/Photoshop CS5.1 (64bit)/Pixel Bender Files are different.  Any explanation?

  • Photoshop CS5 on dead computer, now on new desktop can I put on laptop too?

I bought Photoshop CS5 last year just a few months before my computer 'died fatally' on me. The local computer store couldn't fix it so I bought a new desktop PC from them. As part of the deal they installed all my programmes from my discs and I have been using it sucessfully since.
I now have anew  laptop which I will want to use on a photography holiday. Can I load CS5 onto that too? I understand there are 2 licences but one may still be allocated to the 'dead' PC. How do I find out if that is the case and get it transferred to my new laptop?

Thanks, it is an obvious move but I don't want to Adobe to freeze me out of my desktop programme as I use it so much.
I have not yet found a way to contact Adobe should that need arise - the links on my Photoshop support programme don't take me anywhere

  • Photoshop CS5 - when using free transform, "width" is showing pixels and not %?

Hi guys, I'm not sure if this is in the right section but...
I am using Photoshop CS5 on the most up-to-date version of Leopard. Macbook Pro 15", early 2011 model.
I went Edit > Free Transform, about to adjust the width/height of an object on the canvas like I normally do, but I noticed that the width/height info near the top of the screen is really... Weird. Instead of saying W (width) 100%  and H (height) 100% in the two boxes, W is saying however many pixels the object is, instead of the scale percentage.
How do I change this back to percentage?
    Thanks.

I skipped CS5 and went from CS3 to CS6 - this is the standard Free Transform menu in CS6:
You're likely to get a quicker answer to your question if you post in the Photoshop users forum - http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop - where there are a number of people still using older versions.
    Good luck,

  • Pixel Bender an Photoshop CS5

What about Pixel Bender in Photoshop CS5?
I didn`t see anything in the CS5 launch event.
I would love to see new features like:
    some useful filters
at least some tools like hand tool etc. (not everyone knows shortcuts)
no more size limit at 4096x4096px
navigation like in Photoshop (flick-panning, scrubby zoom etc.)
    onscreen tools like in PS
So what`s the deal with PB and PS CS5?

Just installed the new PB version.
I can only speek for Pixel Bender in Photoshop, but I`m wondering what the PB team has been doing since the PB version that shipped with CS4.
It`s the same useless plugin as before. It`s fast (as it was before), but that`s it. Still no useful filters, still a file size limit, that cannot even open a pic from an entry level DSLR, no colormanagement, no tools (not even a rightclick menu for zoom levels) etc., etc.
    After 1,5 years extremely disappointing!
Will we ever see a PB version that`s really worth installing for Photoshop?

  • Photoshop CS5- How to paste image as pixel or smart object

It happened before but now I can't get it to happen.
Just a few days ago when I could paste (cmd V) an item in Photoshop CS5, I would get a pop up -- Paste as pixel, smart object etc.
Now I don't get the option. How do I make it appear?  I need to get that option window to popup after pasting.
    Thanks in advance!!

    Try resetting your Preferences:
Windows - Hold down CTRL-SHIFT-ALT then double-click the PS icon.
Macintosh - Hold down CMD-SHIFT-OPTION then double-click the PS icon.
Click "Yes" when asked to delete the settings file.

How to upload Pixel Bender Filter to Photoshop CS5 on Mac? It installs to Utility Folder and I cant understand install from there? Haven't installed a plug in for a while!

The link for the photoshop cs5/cs5.1 pixel bender plugin is broken on the pixel bender web page, so you probably installed the pixel bender toolkit.

  • Photoshop CS5 - custom shapes edges pixelated when rotated

After changing my monitor i found that all shapes pixelated when rotated 45 degree, any help?

What do they look like if you view your document at 100% view (actual pixels)?
    What operating system?
Do you have Enable Open GL Drawing checked under Prerferences>Performance in photoshop cs5?
Is the monitor the same size and/or the resolution different than the old monitor?

  • Photoshop CS5 - Current Users of 10 bits per pixel color

    Hello,
I'm looking for feedabck from anyone who currently has a full 10 bit display pipeline using Photoshop CS5.  I've got a question in on another thread about info on 10 bpp hardware support but I wanted to also start a new thread to get comments from users who are already there.
First and foremost I would like to know what graphics card you are using, and second your monitor and the color space you're using.  Info on drivers, calibrations tools you may have used on the monitor, performance differences you may have found going from 8 bit to 10 bit, your OS, etc. would also be appreciated.  Of particular interest would be anyone who has been able to get a non-workstation graphics card working with 10 bits all the way through.  I believe this is only possible with DisplayPort, although I have seen information that workstation level cards can do it over DVI.
Please!! no Luddite style comments/questions about "why anyone would want to do this", or "what a pain it will be", or how "8 bits sRGB color is perfectly adequate and wonderful" for everyone.  I've essentially been there and done that in terms of reading these comments and I have less than zero interest in hearing any of them, no matter what your level of experience.  If I stated this as strongly as I would like I'm sure I would violate forum rules on language, so please respect my wishes here and start another thread to bash 10 bpp or wide gamut color in general.
I'm only interested in getting tips on what is needed to make it happen.  Others who are not there yet but with legitimate interests in 10 bpp color feel free to expand on my questions.
    Thanks.

    I don't have a 10 bit pipeline myself, BUT...
I did run across one interesting tidbit with regard to using OpenGL with Photoshop through ATI video drivers...
A while back, as I was developing a plug-in that uses OpenGL, I observed that the ATI Catalyst driver (for my Radeon HD 4670 card) was choosing a deeper format for textures than what was requested (16 bit half-float instead of 8 bit integer) but only when my plug-in was running as part of Photoshop.  When I ran the plug-in in another app it did not do this - it stayed with an 8 bit texture depth instead.
It turns out (confirmed by an ATI engineer) that the video drivers were actually detecting the application being Photoshop and making different decisions - presumably to increase the quality of the display specifically for Photoshop to support the high quality 10 bit color pipeline you seek.
    More info here:  http://www.opengl.org/discussion_boards/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=281068
The key thing here is that prior to this discovery I never suspected that a video driver might do things differently depending on what application is calling it.
Good luck putting together a system that gives you that higher quality display.  I'll be keenly interested in reading about your discoveries here.
