Temporary Files in iPod Classic

Hi all,
I've found like 60 temporary files in my iPod folder: iPod_Control/iTunes.
These are: iT 1.tmp. iT 2.tmp, etc... to 60, using more than 1GB of space.
Most of these files were created weeks ago.
Anyone know if these are deleted automatically? Can they be deleted manually?
Thanks,

Hey,
I had the same problem, with the same album actually. The coverflow would show the album many times with the different artists. What I did to fix this was I went back into iTunes, highlated the entire forest gump album, then right clicked and hit get info. I then changed compilation to YES and now it shows as all one album in my coverflow.
The only downside is it still sorts the album by the first track's artist, not the title of the album, so in this case it's stuck under Elvis since thats the first song. Hopefully this will be fixed with the new update, but who knows.
HTH!
Mike

  • Restoring lost video files from iPod Classic

I was recently trying to move my Video Files (last three seasons of Cops all downloaded from Itunes) to a different location on my computer. To put a long story short they somehow disappeared and I’m not sure how. I have searched my hard drive and I didn’t even have them in my recycle bin.
Fortunatly I still have them on my iPod Classic (160 GB) and I’m trying to figure out how to recover them from it, but I’m not sure if I have it set up to sync video files automatically or if it even works that way and I’m afraid to plug it into my computer or it might sync and delete the files.
The first thing I tried was to plug it into a different computer (already authorized) so it would upload the files downloaded then I could use an external drive to transfer the files back to my regular computer. I was able to get the most recent season uploaded, but then I got an error message saying that it couldn’t upoload some of the protected files unless my computer was authorized (even though it was). I re-authorised my computer and it still didn’t work.
I read that you can press Ctrl-Shift and hold it down while you plug your iPod in that it will prevent auto-syncing. I tried this but as soon as my iPod said “synchronizing” I unplugged it.
Does anyone know how I could pull these files from my iPod to get them back on my computer?

To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
Then see: How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.

  • How to delete corrupted files on ipod classic

Somehow the "index" of files on my Ipod Classic HD got corrupted so none of my music, video, etc files showed up on the Ipod.  The library, and all the files, would display in Itunes so I followed the instructions and copied them over to an external HD.  Then, when I synced the Ipod, about 1/3 of my available HD on the Ipod shows up as yellow in the space available indicator.  Fortunately I had enough capacity to re-sync....just with very little free space on the HD afterward
    My question is:
Should I reset the Ipod and then copy the library media folder from the external HD back to my PC?....and then sync?  Will that get rid of the corrupted files so I regain the capacity on the Ipod HD?
    Thanks for any help

    Hi arakis,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
In this situation I would restore your iPod back to factory settings and then sync the music back onto it. It shouldn’t matter if the music is located on the computer hard drive or an external hard drive, as long as the iTunes Media Folder is pointed to the correct location to access the music from iTunes. The first article below explains the process of restoring your iPod back to factory settings and the second article shows the location (and how to change the location) of the iTunes Media Folder.

  • Playing AVI files on Ipod classic?

I have several short AVI files that I'd like to on my iPod Classic. How do you do this?

    Hello there,
*.avi files are not supported by the iPod at this time. However, one option is to convert them to an iPod compatible format using a third party application such as [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com> or [Handbrake|http://handbrake.fr>.
Once you have converted the files and imported them into iTunes, try syncing them to your iPod by enabling your iPod to sync all videos (or however you wish to set video syncing) under the Videos tab for your iPod in iTunes.
Here is more on syncing videos to your iPod if needed.

    Hope this helped.

  • Can not copy 8GB file to ipod classic 120 GB

I am not able to copy 8GB file to ipod.
I get error message "The disk in the destination drive is full. Insert a new disk to continue."
But more than 75GB free space is available.

iPod for Windows use is formatted to the FAT32 specification.
Max. file size on a FAT32 partition is 4GB.
Is this a media file you want to play on your iPod? If so can it be split into smaller chunks? Same applies if you're using the iPod for storage/transfer although it might be better to get a small external drive that you can format in NTFS for this use.

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum and also to the Ipod.

Trying to find free software to convert .rm files to mp3.
Can anyone suggest me on the above case.

  • How directly delete file from iPod Classic?

What a pity that when listening to the music file and press and hold the center button in the menu that appears, there is no "Delete file".

Given that the product line has been withdrawn I suspect there is little merit in sending your idea to iPod Feedback but it is there if you want it. What I used to do was give such tracks a one star rating and use smart playlist rules that would automatically exclude tracks with one star so they would be removed on the next sync.

  • WMV files onto Ipod classic

The instructions say to simply drag and drop movies into the ipod library, and if the file is not compatible you should get an option asking if you want to convert it.
I drag my .wmv movie into the movie folder, and... nothing. Doesn't even attempt to copy it. I have tried selecting 'file', then 'import file' as well, and get no response at all. No error messages, nothing.

My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes.  I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes.  There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE.  How can I get this to work with iTunes again?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • My 6th generation Ipod Classic will not eject, works fine otherwise and properly goes thru sync cycle.  A message shows files are in use and device can't be ejected.  If I close my internet browser it will eject properly every time.

I have a new HP Pavilion running Windows 7 with lots of memory and a terabyte of storage, using iTunes 11 with a 6th generation Ipod Classic.  Have used my current iPod for years with no problem until today; when I try to eject the device iTunes stops responding, there is a delay of about 10-15 seconds until a message box pops up: "the ipod cannot be ejected as there are files in use."  It also won't eject from the windows taskbar, same type of message appears. iTunes remains unresponsive until I click "ok" on the message box. I've reset the ipod twice and disabled the "enable disk use" button for the ipod -- with no change in symptom.
I am not certain as to the fix but am 100% sure that the problem does not occur if I close my open browser; it occurs only when I have an Internet browser open.  I experimented with Google Chrome that I normally use, and also with Internet Explorer -- when either browser is being used the ipod cannot be ejected.
I've used iTunes 11 for about 3-4 weeks and this problem had not occurred until today.

I have had similar issues with mine, happens mainly if I transfer songs and then decide to disconnect my iPod to listen to them with my IEMs (I use Interenet Explorer in my case and it is not neccessarely up when this happens, so I seriously doubt it is an issue conencted to the web browser). I have no patience for this so my trick is I try to eject it from iTunes, if that does not work, then I bring Windows explorer up, right mouse click on the iPod mounted drive and select Eject. It gives me the same warning but there is a third button selection called Continue. When I choose that it just disconnets the drive anyway and the iPod is finally disconnected. It seems to work each and every time I do it so this solution is fine for me. Would be intersting to see what the real root cause of this is because I started getting this problem with the newer iTunes 11.

  • HT1329 I have imported music files on my iPod Classic which I don't have on my old PC as it had less capacity than the iPod. I now have a new PC and want to transfer the music from the iPod to my new PC so that I have back ups. How can I do this?

How do I move music imported from my old CD collection onto my iPod, which I did not retain on my old PC as there was not enough memory. I no longer have all the CDs so cannot import them to my new PC, so want to copy them directly off my iPod Classic to my new PC.
    How do I do that?
    Thanks

You cannot do it (transfer song files from iPod to computer) using iTunes, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download previous purchases using the iTunes Store Purchased screen).
However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can be used to transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your new computer's hard drive, drag them (or the folder containing the files) to the iTunes window to add them to your new computer's iTunes library.
