Temporary Playlist on the Fly?

I have 13,000+ lines in iTunes. I have set up many playlists and smart playlists. However, sometimes it would be handy to just be able to highlight the Library icon (in the left section) and then randomly select -- Apple Key/Click -- some songs and then "play selection".
Apple offers the feature to "make a playlist from selection", but I think to be able to play the selection without making a permanent playlist would be very useful.
If this functionality is already available in some fashion, I'd appreciate knowing "how" to do it. Thanks, Jim

James,
Since iTunes help says it so succinctly, I'll just quote.
"You can use Party Shuffle (in the Source list) to create a dynamic playlist made up of a random selection of songs in your library or any playlist. This "live mix" allows you to see a list of songs that have played or are about to play, and edit the list at any time."
Play around with it. I think it's just what you're looking for!

  • Modifying playlists on the fly

    Picture the scene...
I have an apple TV hooked up to my TV in the livingroom and have a party going on - is there any way to modify a playlist (eg. to add a requested song or adjust the playlist to suit the mood) on my mac that is streaming the music without exiting the apple tv screen on the tv?

If you're streaming the audio, just modifying the playlist on the mac should get the job done.
Otherwise, welcome to the world of professional DJ, music starts at 6pm, 3 hours of one kind, 90 minutes of modern, 30 minutes of something for the oldies mixed with dance for the young 'uns. Then 2 hours of classics and a few slow ones, before 3 hours of second wind.
It's hard work, planning by timing, and then everyone stays 6 hours later than you planned (so plan the music for that, repeats are ok then).

  • Is there a way to create dynamic playlists on the fly in music on smart media?

Often I'm at a friends house and we're looking through music trying to pick the next song to play as one is finishing.
It would be really great to have an dynamic playlist where you could add and subtract songs as you go and so keep the music playing as you create away and the new list runs.
I see a couple of apps offering this but they don't have good reviews. Also crossfade for this would be a nice option too.
Any plans to give a 'life update' revamp to party goers using itunes on their smart devices?
Or doesMusic have this feature and I'm just unaware of it?

Yes, there is a way. Here is the workaround. You can add notes folders directly with your iPad or iPhone.

  • Zen Micro 5gb - Playlist on the fly with "add to selected" often does not work (AD HOC 'playlis

I've found ad-hoc playlist made from ADD TO SELECTED often does not work. Here are other issues:?. Does not add? at all OR only adds after first song selected played2. Cannot swith from ARTISTS to SONGS w/o killing list. This will kill the ongoing list.3. If I make mistake and hit the PLAY button, it wipes out the entire list I'd already made. Any of these issues resolved in Zen Vision M?

try reloading the firmware and if that doesnt work try opening the case and cleaning it if there is anything in there. the button may be stuck. and if that doesnt work i dont know what else to sugjest. it seemed to work for me.

  • Can't find how to create on-the-fly playlists using search

I used to make ad-hock playlists on the fly using the quick search in iTunes 10:I would display a list of songs (the full library or from a play list), type somethings in the quicksearch box, and the list would narrow down to the search results, where then I could simply hit "play" and use these results as a temporary ad-hoc playlist.
That features seems to be gone- even after getting iTunes 11 to LOOK like iTunes 10, typing any search term will show (partial) results in a drop down menu, not narrowing the display, and no option in a single click to simply play the results.
Am I missing something? Did Apple really remove that functionality?

  • How to add certain tunes I feel like listening to, to a temporary playlist?

    Hi,
As with WMP, where if you double click on a track it will begin playing and then stop at the end, how can I do this with itunes?
Or how can I add say 4-5 tunes I feel like listening to at that time to a temporary playlist? The Dj does not do this very well because although I can add tracks and get itunes to play them next in itunes DJ, ones they are all finished the Dj will begin playing tracks from the selected source/playlist. As far as I can see it is not possible to NOT have a playlist selected in DJ.
    Thanks.

Highlight the tracks you want. Then use the command File > New Playlist From Selection. iTunes will immediately make a playlist from the highlighted tracks.

  • Filter songs by rating (on the fly, without smart playlists)

Is there any way (3rd party app maybe) that would allow you to live filter the displayed/played songs by rating? ie. if I have an artist selected, and all 200 songs are shown by that artist -- I would like to select on the fly to only display/play songs that are rated 2 or higher.
Aperture has a similar function that does not require making smart lists -- "Display only 2 or higher" of the current album, etc. -- AND you can sort with a sub-filter in addition (in iTunes, I would show/play only 2 and higher, and maybe sub-sort by album, or shuffle it.)
The only current way to do this is to create a unique smart playlist for every artist, genre, etc. that you would want to filter by rating in that way. Alternately, you can sort by rating, so the best are at the top, but with large selection of those ratings I often want to be able to shuffle the order within that selected rating range.
This software addition would be very useful!
    Thanks for any tips...

Merci beaucoup for the response. However, what you described in both cases are the workarounds that I described & that I've been using.
With sort by rating solution, the music can then only be sorted by rating -- and there will be songs of lower ratings played eventually.
Let me try to describe what I'm looking for more precisely:
Like in Aperture, there would be a small gui selection toward the top of iTunes, and you select what ratings should be shown/played -- for example, 2 & higher. Then, there will be no songs shown/played that are below 2 stars. You can then have it play on shuffle, or sorted by other data such as artist, album, etc. -- and you will never hear a song below 2 stars.
The smart playlist is the other workaround I've used, but it's also not the solution. It requires making a separate smart playlist for every possible artist/genre, etc. that you would want only (for example) 2 stars & above to play. For example, if on a whim I wanted to listen to all of my U2 music on random/shuffle -- I'd like to be able to just select Artist-->U2, and with the 2+stars GUI selection, I know I will never hear anything below 2 stars -- *without* having to take the time to make a smart playtlist for this random & rare mood. If I suddenly want a even higher selection of U2, I just click the 3stars GUI selection, and the shown & playable songs instantly update. No need to always have to create & edit smart playlists for such random selections...
This interface works extremely well in Aperture - I wish they'd migrate it over to iTunes!
I hope I'm clearer now... Thanks again

  • [All Platforms] New UI for On-the-Fly Collaborative Playlists

The idea came to me following a house party. There were four of us and we couldn’t decide whose Spotify playlist we should listen to. The decision was, as usual with us, to play one song per person. This didn’t work well either as only one device could be connected through Bluetooth to the stereo system at a time. Once a song finished there had to be a long wait for another song to start while one device disconnected from the stereo system and another connected, then all over again.. We gave up on the music all together in the end.
The next morning the solution seemed obvious to me. It would make things a lot easier if we could have a shared playlist. At the moment I know it is possible to share your own playlist with friends, but haven’t heard about one that can be created by several people at the same time in such an easy way.
The idea is simple, but in my view would solve the problem my friends and I had at the house party. It works in the following way:
Let’s say I want to create a new playlist that I could share with several people in the room. I create a playlist on the main device, call it ‘Alena’s House Party’. I then choose a list of people I want to share my playlist with (these would be people I follow already or another Spotify user that I can easily browse).  A message appears on the personal devices of the people I have selected to accept the invitation. Once this is done a bubble (like the one in Facebook messenger) appears on all the relevant devices including the main device. This is the new Spotify playlist I have just created. Now my friends and I can browse our personal playlists and drag and drop the songs we want to add to ‘Alena’s House Party’. As a host, I get to review and sort the suggestions. Alternatively, to be absolutely fair, one song per person could be automatically selected from the list of suggested songs.
The plus of this is that it is easy to use. The bubble can appear anywhere on the screen on your mobile and you can sort your songs at any time, it also allows you to copy your favourite songs in the new playlist by dragging and dropping from various existing playlists on Spotify. And of course makes it easier to share music with your friends instantly and without a hustle.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I have tried using 'Collaborative playlist'
feature as you describe but failed to figure out how it works. Am I correct
in thinking that by using this feature you can take an existing playlist
and and allow someone else to edit it? If so, I believe my idea is
different and certainly would be easier to understand and use. I am
suggesting a totally new playlist that would be created on the go. Say, I
add a few songs (could be from different playlists) and my friends can do
the same from their own playlists. The application would be easy to use as
all you need to do is drag and drop a song into a bubble, which is the
    shared playlist.
Therefore, I wouldn't like the case to be closed. If you feel you need to
change the description, please do so.
    Thank you

  • Apple really needs to rethink their temporary playlist approach

One of my biggest annoyances with Apples music products, be it mobile or not (iTunes), is their approach to playlists and more specifically their so called "on the go" playlist on mobile devices. The "on the go" playlist needs to go or be revamped. When I think of a product with a great temporary playlist, key word being temporary, is the Creative Nomad Jukebox C. I loved listening to music on that thing, I didn't with my old iPods. I'm close to loving listening to music on my iPhone and iTunes has always been alright not great. Bottom line is the missing piece for me is a great temporary playlist.
An idea I had in iTunes that would greatly improve on the fly song listening. In grid view if you could right click and bring up a list of the tracks on an album that looks like the track list on the Touch/iPhone.

  • Table Creation on the fly

    Hi,
I have to run 50 reports last day of every month. Each query will do lot of dynamic calculations which are a time consuming. The whole point is to create excels for each of the report. But since the Application will throw request time out error if time exceeds more than minutes. So we decided to generate the data for each of those 50 reports and store in a temporary table... so that the application will not throw time out error...
    Details:
    Oracle 10g.
    .NET
    # of records in each table: > 700k
In order to accomplish the above task we have to create temporary tables.. but the question is for every report do we have to create a table on the fly OR create a base table which will have 100 columns which will be a cross product of all the columns selected in all the 50 queries and every row will have a report id..
OR Is there a better way to accomplish the above?
    thanks in advance

Thank you.. the only reason i wasnt going for view is i wont be able to have indexes if i want to add some filter while exporting to excel..
other wise we should be good with materialized views..

  • Recording sounds on the fly

Can anyone tell me if you can record sounds on the fly?
By that I mean during my voice recording and not in post production.
Our podcast is a live event. We do no editing or postproduction. Currently I use a PC to play sounds and feed them through the mixer into the line in on my iMac. I was hoping that GB3 podcast recording would allow me to just double click a file and have it added to my mix. I can't seem to figure out how to do this.
Most podcasters I know do zero post production. I can't understand why Apple wouldn't provide this feature.
    Thanks,
    Bry

Seems like we both have the same problem! I figured out how to assign an mp3 to a track then drag it to the "Musical Typing Keyboard" See this thread for details:

You can also see my thread too, I appear to be asking for the same thing but dragging in each audio track seems way too complicated. I just want to play my audio clips from iTunes (from a little tempary playlist) during my show aka Daily Source Code. Let's figure this ***** out!

  • Appending FLV files together on the fly

I have a website that accepts video uploads. I then of a
content management tool that always me to browse and uploaded
videos and approve or deny them.
For any I approve, I then convert the video to FLV, i then
want the automated process on my site to append a cookie cutter
trailer video to that uploaded video.
so my question is, how to append one FLV to another FLV
through code on the fly on the website?
    any help appreciated
    thanks
    bill

    hi,
with fms you can create a serverside stream playlist using
the stream object, this means you can interlace your trailer/advert
to appear anywhere within the stream dynamically without needing to
splice and reencode any videos you have.

  • 1st day newbie Q: editing palettes on the fly

    Hi all.
I'm working on a tie dye t-shirt designed project.
Essentially, a user will be presented with a picture of a tie dye
t-shirt, and a palette of available dye colors. The user will then
drag and drop colors onto the t-shirt to customize the design.
In VB (which i am more familiar with, thought far from expert
in), I would acomplish this by pre-processing the t-shirt image so
that it would be an 8 bit indexed bitmap, with each shirt color
region representing one palette entry. When a new color is dropped
on the shirt image, I would then simply change the palette index to
the new color. When the user was finished, the palette would
    reflect the users desired design.
I am unsure if this approach will work in Director. Is it
possible to manipulate palettes on the fly? Or am I going to have
to take some more indirect approach?
Thanks for any and all suggestions.

After applying for your first position in a broadcast television or high end post production environment and convincing them of your aptitude to tell a story, understanding of moving image photography and compostition, were you not at least given a fundamental introduction to:
    How video works,
Using vectorscopes and waveform monitors to measure video signals,
Using audio metering to measure their signals,
calibrating decks and other playback devices, etc by first spending time in MCR?
    You should have.
If not, you will be in for a bumpy ride when it comes to having your end product accepted by a TV station. Some will tolerate light and temporary deviation from specification. Others will reject it outright if it does not conform 100%.
That said, there is a section in the FCP Manual entitled "Measuring and Setting Video Levels" which will help somewhat. Read it. At least twice, then read it again.
As for exactly what you have to deliver, only the broadcasters themselves can tell you that.

  • Why canot one cue music on the fly on the iPhone/iTouch?

Why is it that the most basic function of cueing up songs on the fly, in real-time, is not an available function on our iTouch/iPhone's, or am I missing something, mis-informed, or brain dead hder... is that not the case? The iTunes DJ just plain is inconvienent, one does not want to have to run back to our computer and line up some tunes, sync up our gizmo's (iphone or itouch) and load playlists???, and THEN listen to what we want....why are we denied?
Please tell me if I am wrong here, but this seems like the most baseline function that should be in the the forefront of any music listening device, and has been on most, OTHER than apple, is completely ignored...
    Please advise.....
