Temporary Profile Problem

Although this appears to be a Windows 7 problem, I want to provide some background about the network we are working with.  We are setting up a small Windows Server 2012 Essentials network with Windows 7 Professional workstations.  We
are having a persistent problem on one of the workstations with the user profile.  When we used the "Connector" software that is provided to connect workstations to a Server 2012 Essentials network, it returns an error during the profile
migration part of the process (local to domain).  In the past, we have never had a problem with this helpful feature and have always enabled it.  With one of the client machines on this new network, however, we got a message saying that
the profile could not be transferred.  This profile has worked locally for a long time without any problem.  A new blank domain profile was the created for the user, without any of the numerous settings/email etc. that were on
the original local profile.  So, we then removed everything (machine, server connection, domain membership, etc.).  We then tried the process again from scratch, hoping that the local profile would be transferred.  That turned out to be
a mistake.
Instead what is happening now is that a message appears on the workstation when it logs in to the domain  stating that a temporary profile is being used, and that all settings will be lost when the user logs out.
We cannot set up this user's desktop/settings/mail etc. under these conditions (only a temporary profile).  At this point I'd be happy just to get the blank/new user domain profile back again, and try to configure the profile manually.  However,
we can't seem to escape from this "temporary profile" situation, no matter what, which makes setting up a real user profile impossible.
Thanks very much for any suggestions or assistance you can offer.
John

Hi,
Actually, before we migrate the user profile, we always create a restore point.
To make a successful migration, you can use
ForenSit Profile Wizard, which experts in this.
Here is an article you can refer to:

  • Logged into temporary profile how do i get back to my regular profile?

WHen I log into my desktop PC it takes for ever to get to the start page. It says it is preparing windows. After finally getting past this page it does one of two things.
    1. It goes to a all blue screen, When it does this I have to shut my computer off and reboot it. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times til it takes me to my start screen,
    2. When i am able to get to the desk top screen i get a message saying that I am logged into a temporary file. Then i get a promt to click here to enter your most recent password(important). I do not know where to go when i click on that link.
How do i get back to my regular account and off this temporary mode? Can anyone help me with this please>

    CarterFamily,
Essentially, unless something odd is going on, the issue might be an incorrect Registry key entry.  If that is the underlying cause of the problem, then correcting the Registry should allow you to recover your profile.
You might try the the following fix.
Find, Open, and follow the procedure in the file named:  Temporary Profile Error

  • Temporary Profile on Windows 7 Pro Domain

I have spent a couple of days reading through all of the threads relating to Windows 7 and temporary profiles, but I haven't found one that addresses my exact issue. I am a teacher and network administrator of 50 computers at a school. All belong to a
domain, manged by the Windows2008 Server OS. 12 of the computers are HP PCs with XP Professional OS, 15 are HP thin clients, using terminal services - Remote Desktop, and the remainder are HP Windows 7 Professional PCs. They have all worked fine for a couple
of years, but suddenly one of the Win7 PCs will only log the Administrator profile on without problem. All other profiles are logged on as temporary profiles, and there is no trace of them in the "Users" folder once logged off. The user can log on
to any one of the other computers without issue, so it is related exclusively to that one PC. There is no restore point available in the restore too. I was hoping someone might have an idea if this problem is related to a damaged Windows file or if it is related
to another issue, and how it can be repaired. I will be appreciative beyond words for any direction offered in resolving this!

  • Temporary profile when deploying Windows 7 x64

    Hi All
Using MDT I am deploying a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 task sequence which is extracted direct from the dvd WIM file.
This happens loging on as the local Administrator account when the task sequence starts to install applications and not on every computer or every time the task sequence is used, for example last week I imaged a room of 25 machines and 5 failed on the first
image, I reimaged these five and only 1 failed again. Yesterday I imaged a room of 30 and 25 out of the 30 have failed first time.
This causes a problem for certain application installations such as Java, Quick Time and App-V as the are self extracting installers which extract to the user profile, but fail as the user profile does not exist.
I have been through the bdd.log file for failed machines and the only errors I can see are when the individual applications fail. With lots of searching around I find the standard registry fix for a corrupt profile but nothing suggesting what would cause
this, especially on a clean deployment.
    Thanks in advance

OK, I'm going to work under the assumption that when some of your machines boot, you get the error:
"Your profile was not loaded correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary profile."
You then experience application installation failures.
    Solution:
You may have a modified/corrupt version of the Windows 7 Ultimate media. You should validate its source. You will need to obtain a clean verified version of Windows 7.
Also, Windows 7 ultimate is a retail product. I suggest obtaining and deploying a corporate edition (Enterprise edition) as you are deploying APP-V (a corporate appliation).

  • After SysPrep Windows Logs Users In With Temporary Profile

I have created a Windows 8.1 Pro image which was created by installing from the DVD. On first login I put windows into audit mode and installed all software and customised. I then ran sysprep with an unattend file with "copy profile" set to true.
Once the image is loaded onto a new PC it is joined to our domain and if I login as a Domain Admin things are fine, but if I login as a Domain User it logs the user in with a temporary profile which disappears at log off. The fact that Domain Admins
can login successfully suggests it is permissions but I am not sure where or why. To create the image I used Microsoft best practice as detailed on the MSDN. It is not a corrupted profile as there are no domain users have been logged on prior to capturing
the image. I am using DISM to capture and deploy. I did use the ADK to create the unattend file.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this behaviour?
    Thanks
    JeffW

    Hi,
We have not heard from you in a couple of days. Please post back at your convenience if we can assist further.
If the above suggestions doesn't work, We'd collect PROFILE.ETL to further troubleshoot the issue.
    a. Log onto the machine as an administrator.
    b. Select the start menu
    c. Type cmd in "Start Search"
    d. Right click on cmd under “programs”
    e. Select "Run as administrator"
    f. Enable the User Profile Service Tracing using the following command in the new-opened elevated command prompt at the root of the C drive:
     logman -start profile -p {eb7428f5-ab1f-4322-a4cc-1f1a9b2c5e98} 255 3 -ets
    g. Do not Log off as the current user and switch to logon as the user who receives the profile problem (please tell me the user name).
    h. Once the user experiences profile issue, please switch back as the administrator.
    i. Stop the User Profile Service Tracing using the following command in an elevated command prompt
     logman -stop profile -ets
    j. Gather the profile.etl file in the root of the C drive and upload it to a shared space like Onedrive and shared the link here.

    Dear Arora,
This generally happens when by some reason the main profile gets corrupted or get it's path lost.

    Hi,
To narrow down the issue, please do the following checks:
    1. What’s you Outlook client, Outlook 2013 or Outlook 2011 for Mac?
    2. Does the issue only happen to one specific user? How about other users?
    3. What’s the problematic user’s account used to send messages? Exchange account or other webmail account such as Hotmail, Gmail?
    4. Please close Outlook and access the webmail to send test messages to @hotmail/@live/@outlook mail addresses and check whether the issue persists.
    5. If the issue doesn’t happen in webmail, please also create a new Outlook profile to have a try:

  • Temporary profile

    Hello,
My company gave me a computer with directaccess connectivity enabled.
My problem is thet I receive a popup after logon that states I am logged in using a temporary profile. However I can access to my company share (even if there is a red cross on the share when viewing in the "Computer" view.
    First, I have read this
http://www.sysprobs.com/fix-temporary-profile-windows-7 and tried to to remove ".bak" in the registry key name, with a local administrator account, but I am not allowed to do this apparently...
    I tried this too :

    Any clue is welcome !

    Hi,
it seems something is wrong with your profile permissions. I doubt it has anything todo with DirectAccess.
You should contact your administrator or helpdesk to get this resolved.

  • Logon with temporary profile

    Dear Sir/Mam,
we are using the domain environment at our office area and facing the Temporary  profile log in when we delete old user profile and create new user profile on windows 7.
We have try to this again and again but found the same issue on another system.
Due to some problem in user profile we have delete the user profile & trying to recreate the domain user profile on windows 7 but we found the massage in taskbar like Temporary Profile created on system. Also we are not getting the user profile in C
    drive.
Kindly help me to solve the issue without re-install the windows.

Perhaps the origin of problem may be in your W 7 system preparation. Windows 7 behaves differently than Windows XP and it is important to create default profile correctly. You should create it with sysprep and include copyprofile parameter.
Local temporary profile may stem from not correctly set permissions. Make sure that you have set permissions correctly.

  • When i log onto my computer it logs me into a temporary profile. how do i fix this?

My computer stopped working. Had to control, alt.del and shut it down. When logging back on the computer it said that I was logged into a temporary profile. My desktop had changed and all file folders on the desk top where gone. Is there any way to reset the profile? I only have one user account on the computer. I am logging into that account but nothing is the same as it was before the shut down.

OK, this is where I am with this problem:
I set the IE8/IE9 swith to off as suggested in the previous reply.
When I try to login now I get:
"The User Profile Service failed the logon.
    User profile cannot be loaded."
Turned off the laptop and retried a few times with the same result.
Logging in with an Admin user account  I looked at the registry entries for my user account. It was basically all zeroes (apart from the user path and SID of course) and the .bak entry was the same apart from State being 0x00008000.
The last time I managed to login successfully with my own user account I backed up my registry entry to a backup drive so I shut down the laptop, logged on with Admin and restored my user account registry entry. I then looked at the registry entry I just restored and it was all zeroes apart from RefCount which was 0x00000007. I shut down the laptop.
I successfully logged on to my user account and again looked at the registry entry which was all zeroes apart from RefCount which was now 0x00000002. Why this hadn't gone up from 7 to 9 but instead went down to 2, I cannot explain?!?
I shut down the laptop, logged in as Admin and looked at my user account which was now all zeroes, including RefCount.
I tried logging in with my usual user account but this after a long, long time "preparing your desktop" I was logged in with a temporary profile again. Using Regedit to look at my profile in the registry it had RefCount of 2 and State of 0x00004a04. The .bak entry was as before, all zeroes but for state of 0x00008000.
The only way I can now login using my user account is to restore my backed-up registry entry after every successful session and close down - which is clearly not acceptable. Something is stopping the login process and only a registry restore of my profile in the ProfileList allows me to login successfully. I really can't see the RefCount being the cause of failed profile loads but even if it is, what is the root cause of the RefCount being changed to something that invalidates my Profile?
I am posting this into a Microsoft forum also, to see if any answers turn up there.

  • APP-V 5.0 VDI A Temporary Profile is created when I log into the Virtual Desktop

    Dear Sirs
I'm Enzo , an Italian System Engineer. Together with other fellows we created a test environment :

RD Web Access, RD Connection Broker, RD Virtualization Host, RD Session Host Installed
    The Hyper-V Environment includes :

    - APP-V_5.0_Server , Application Virtualization Management Console 5.0, with 2 published packages (Office 2010 and Open    Office 4)
    - Sequencer_W8-1, Application Virtualization Sequencer 5.0
    - Client_8-1 , Client Windows 8.1 with Application Virtualization Client 5.0
From the Client_8-1 we can download and run the two published packages from the server (user VDI_TEST_1)
The Client_8-1 has been used as the template (sysprep /oobe /generalize /shutdown) for the Virtual Dektop (APP-0 and APP-1)
included in the collection 'APPV' (Pooled, Automatically Manage Virtual Desktop, Roll Back Virtual Desktops Enabled).
I connect to the 'RD Web Access' ( http 10.102.94.219 RDWeb, user VDI_TEST_1) , I then connect to APPV collection .
When I get logged into the Virtual Desktop (APP-0 or APP-1, user VDI_TEST_1), a Temporary Profile is created. Why ?
    We configured :

I am puzzled as long as when I get logged into the Virtual Desktop, a Temporary Profile is created. Why ?

Highly unlikely it has anything to do with App-V.
Start troubleshooting by looking at permissions on shares and folder under the shares for the profile.
