Teradata - BW Integration

Experts ,what are the ways to connect Teradata to BW .
I believe they are
1)UDC
2)TVAS using remote cubes
However as per latest news from SAP ,TVAS is not erquired if that is correct then what is the alternative best solution?
Thanks

Best to my knowledge, TVAS (Teradata Virtual Access Solution) currently is the easiest, and most transparent way to integrate BW and Teradata.
It is using virtual cubes to retrieve data. From the end user perspective there is no difference. The same query can be executed against native BW cube or a virtual cube with data residing in Teradata database. Any other operations (e.g. drill down, roll up, restrictions) work the same as on native cube.
From the administrator perspective some initial setup is required, for example meta data mappings from BW cube to Teradata tables. Both star schema and snowflake are supported.

  • BW-BO integration challenge

    Hello Experts,
Could someone probably suggest a good approach to my design issue.
Scenario: WEBi report on a BW Query Universe + Teradata Universe for Top X customers.
The selection for Top X (Where X is a variable) is by default 20 and has the option changing it (by user at run time). The BW universe is created on a query, which is created on a multicube which is built on 4 different infocubes.
The query runs and returns a huge set of data and does not filter the Top X in BW but does the filtering at the WEBi report level. This is a performance hit. (takes about 12 minutes). Is there a way to restrict the data that BW query returns to WEBi, so we can tackle that performance issue.
Question: Is there a way to use a user exit variable in the query and let it read from a global variable table and can we update the global variable table from WEBi dynamically from the users filter selection.
Please let me know if you have an alternative approach.

    Hi,
conditions are not supported for the Web Intelligence integration in Xi 3.1 so you need to look at other options to limit the overall result - for example a custom ranking expression in the Universe.

  • Teradata Source SQL Server where clause In SSIS

    Hi All,,
I want pull the data from Teradata to SQLServer .But Teradata source query in where clause around 200 productcodes manually. Instead of that one I want pass sqlserver table dynamically . creating  one temp table in ssis for sqlserver data and
Teradata source query joining the temp table (with out where clause) Is it possible to implement this task in SSIS or
Best method to implement this task in ssis
    Thanks
    CMK...

    Hi CMK,
You can create a staging table to store the productcodes used in the WHERE clause in the Teradata source query. Then, you can use Lookup Transformation in SSIS to achieve your goal.
If you use Enterprise or Developer Edition of SSIS 2008 or higher, you can install the Microsoft Connector Version for Teradata by Attunity to obtain the OLE DB provider for Teradata. You can use an OLE DB Source adapter to extract data from the Teradata
database without WHERE clause, then add a Lookup Transformation which lookups records from the staging table, and output the lookup match records to the destination SQL Server table.

When processing the cube the username/password is not recognized.
In the Impersonation Information i'm using the same username/password with the option use a specific Windows username and password.
Ther Teradata authentication is not connected with Windows domain users.
What is the way to deploy/process the cube in this scenario?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Do you have the same providers installed on both the client and the server?
When you click "Test" or explore the data BIDS will use the provider on your client machine. However when the server processes the data it has to use the provider installed on the server itself.

  • Xml driver used with a teradata external database

    hi everyone,
I would like to use the db_props feature within the xml driver to create the xml schema inside a teradata database. With some oracle examples, the JDBC URL looks like this :
    jdbc:snps:xml?f=../demo/xml/xxx.xml&s=XXX&dod=true&iue=true&dp_driver=com.ncr.teradata.TeraDriver&dp_url=jdbc:teradata://localhost/TMODE=ANSI,CHARSET=UTF8&dp_user=xxx&dp_password=xxx&dp_schema=xxx
And this returns the following error :
    java.sql.SQLException: Unsupported technology (Driver: com.teradata.jdbc.TeraDriver, Url: jdbc:teradata://localhost/TMODE=ANSI,CHARSET=UTF8)
Do you know how I can solve this ? Thanks

  • Oracle Data Integrator / Informatica ?

Our current process uses the Informatica Essbase DIM to connect our teradata database tables to Essbase cubes via the Informatica workflow. Our Informatica workflow has a target that calls the DIM (Informatica Essbase Connector).
In recent conferences I have heard about ODI. Is ODI a replacement to Informatica OR can I call ODI from an informatica workflow ?
We need informatica as this creates staging tables in our teradata environment that preps the data for the load to Essbase.
I need to know if i should switch from DIM to ODI and still use informatica?

    Hi,
If you are currently using DIM and are happy with your process then I see no need to change.
ODI is now owned by Oracle and is their strategic ELT tool so you are going to hear about it more and more, it is certainly going to be their ELT tool of choice when it comes to integrations with Oracle EPM products and this area will be developed more in the future.
DIM has adaptors for Version 11 so it is not going away soon, you must already have licences for it so that won't be an issue.
    Cheers

  • Teradata destination ODBC connections failing in SSIS job

    Windows Server 2012 R2
    SQL Server Integration Services 2012
    Teradata 13.10.00.14, Driver 14.10.00.06
We have a situation where ODBC connections to Teradata destination database keep getting errors from time to time, not every night though.
Some nights regular load jobs execute successfully and sometimes they get errors "There was an error trying to establish an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connection with the database server." -
one or more component failed validation.
The faulty component is usually different, not the same every time. Package may also differ. There are 4 packages starting parallelly at the same time, each having 1 or 2 sequences of dataflows and sql tasks (about 60 dataflows and 40 sql tasks in total in
those packages). Packages have been migrated from DTS to SSIS and this kind of error-situation has never occurred before.
So we checked what happens on the Teradata side - many simultaneous sessions, validation sessions at first then TPT Load and ODBC sessions, but the number of concurrent open sessions never exceeds something like 30-40. And there is a parameter in Teradata indicating
that max allowed sessions is 120.
Two different kinds of connection managers used - Teradata Connection Manager, used in Attunity Teradata Destination component for TPT Loading and ODBC Connection manager to execute SQL Tasks and also for loading to Teradata destination tables in case of low
    number of records being transfered.
TPT Loads take 14 sessions each, ODBC destination and validation sessions apparently 1 per validation/component.
What could be the reason for this error? Where to look, what to check?
    Thanks for any advice!

Sorry the information given doesnt help much to understand the root cause. Anyways something you could do is to set delay validation to true so that actual error you will get at runtime rather than a validation failed message as above. One more thing you
can try is running packages one at a time and see if error occurs. Also see if multiple packages running in parallel are using same object.

    Matsdeep,
Concerning configuring ODBC connectivity to Teradata on Linux / UNIX, new documentation will be provided in the release notes for XI 3.2 SP 2
    Here is a preview excerpt:
On Unix and Linux platforms, SAP BusinessObjects Data Services requires an ODBC driver manager library and ODBC driver library to configure ODBC data sources. Some ODBC driver vendors include ODBC driver manager and ODBC driver capabilities in one single library, while others separate them into two individual libraries. To accommodate all ODBC vendors, Data Services requires configurations in two different files:
    1. The Unix ODBC driver manager configuration file ($LINK_DIR/bin/odbc.ini).
This file contains DSN instances that reference ODBC driver manager libraries.
    2. The ODBC vendor's configuration files (referenced by the $ODBCINI environment variable).
This file contains DSN instances that reference the ODBC driver libraries, as well as the database server connection information.
To configure Teradata ODBC on Linux and Unix
    1. Add the data source to the Unix ODBC driver manager configuration file ($LINK_DIR/bin/odbc.ini).
    For example:
    [test_teradata]
    Driver = /usr/local/lib/libodbc.so
    2. Add the data source to the ODBC vendor's configuration file (referenced by $ODBCINI).
    For example:
    [test_teradata]
    Driver=/opt/teradata/client/odbc/drivers/tdata.so
    Description=NCR 3600 running Teradata V1R5.2
    DBCName=<host_IP_address>
    LastUser=
    Username=<user_name>
    Password=<user_name>
    Database=
    DefaultDatabase=<default_database_name>
    Disable CALL to EXEC Conversion=Yes
    3. Add the following environment settings to $LINK_DIR/db_env.sh:
    export ODBCINI=$HOME/.odbc.ini
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=tdata_location:libodbc_location:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
where tdata_location is the location of tdata.so and libodbc_location is the location of libodbc.so.

  • Data Profiler: Connect to Teradata by ODBC

    Hi
Has anyone done this successfully? Cannot seem to get ODP to connect to Teradata. Continually recieve message "Authentication failed. couldn't open socket: invalid argument". User and pass# are fine.
If I could work out how ODP uses the supplied ODBC parameters I might be able to get somewhere.
Any help out there? All insight gratefully received.
    Kind Rgds

    Hi Anirban
    >>>So what you are saying it will be a typically file/R3- xi - http scenario??
this is just one of the ways
in all of my fax projects that I've seen
(but sending only standard SAP documents)
my company always used a standard SAP fax server
    (many companies provide such faxes)
so the integration is very easy (like printing)
but if you use non standard documents than
http integration can be the easiest
    >>>what about fax, i mean any chance by using a webservice??
    sure:)
just look at google for fax webservices:

  • Teradata and UDI (UDC Interface)

    Hello BW and Teradata Gurus,
I am at a customer who intends to use Teradata as a DW along with BI. My understanding of their architecture is that they will use UDC Interface is to extract info from Terradata into BW. This will be as part of their reporting Interface, which they intend to acheive via the use of Vitual (Remote) InfoCubes.
LIke I mentioned they are planning on querying on information in Teradata based on query definition based on Remote Cubes, which could be part of a MultiProvider. To me, that stands out as a significant issue since I do believe that there are performance restrictions (data volume and number of concurrent users) when using remote cubes for querying information.
I do not have much exposure with either Teradata or UDC Interface. Would any of you have information regarding UDC Interface and how it interacts with Teradata. Any information you can provide regarding UDC Interface and SPECIFICALLY its impact on extraction and/or Query Performance especially with Teradata would be extremely helpful.
    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Rajesh

    Hi,
The main reason to integrate with Teradata is a faster database. We load data from BW to Teradata and use a virtual cube based on a view in Teradata to report on the data (using TVAS). For us it was a relative quick win since we were planning on using the demand chain management solution from TD. Since we had to load a lot of data to Teradata anyway, why not use it for reporting.
There are some pros and cons to this method but overall we are happy with the solution. Teradata recently announced however that the TVAS method is no longer neccessary since you can run BW directly on a Teradata database. Check out the Teradata website for more information on this.
    Hope some of this helps

  • DIfference between TERADATA TVS technology an new TERADATA FOUNDATION Layer

    Experts ,
what is the difference between TERADATA TVS technology and new TERADATA FOUNDATION Layer technology.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each
    Thanks

Imagine I has a multiprovider that needed to look at process data from R3 and operational data from say a post office tracking system
The post office tracking system was on a set of non R3 boxes and historically a EDW and reporting marts where built using non SAP products on a Teradata platform
Within BW you can create a multicube on a BW cube that has the ECC data in it and have a virtual remote cube which reads teradata at run time to get the tracking data for that country etc
BW does not store the data (why would it need to - it is already stored in the Teradata EDW system) but consumes it at run time in a query
To read the data at runtime from Teradata you could either write your own function module or you could buy the TVAS module from teradata which does it for you (at a cost) and in teradata's words is optimised for Teradata SQL and handles hierarchies much better etc
Teradata foundation is a whole different matter - in the case above it would involve you moving your BW box and putting it on Teradata. You coudl benefit from the massive parallel processing within teradata that your infopackges ands DSO activations within your BW LSA layers need.
Teradata will easily handle its its normal non BW applications tens of terabytes in a very little time and it is normal to rebuild reporting marts from scratch each night rather than deltas due to the actual power of the product.
How this integration within the  BW application is at this moment I dont know as I haven;t been updated since my last conf call with them.
So it's horses for courses - if a client has a huge teradata platform already and a oracle BW one it is a door opener to move BW to that
Or if its a greenfield site with huge and i mean huge data volumes that you need to model within a EDW layer then it might make sense to look at teradata or one of the other MPP database vendors.
I notice you work in consultancy in presales - so I best leave the rest of the free advice there.. but it gives you a flavour
