.term files in Lion

Hi,
I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but here it goes.
Have Apple dropped the capability of saving .term files in the Lion version of Terminal?
I have tried using export settings which creates a .terminal file, but when I go and open the file in a text editor (TextWrangler) it DOES NOT include the execution string:
<key>ExecutionString</key>
<string></string>
When I try to add the Execution String manually and then open it in Terminal, it states that the file is corrupt and will not open.
I have looked at older .term files which were created in Panther and they seem to work fine :s

It's in /System/Library/CoreServices/Archive Utility.app
If you lauch that app, you'll have preferences available in the Menu, but I don't think it will help with your problem:

  • How to specify term file when using static html to run webforms 10g

I'm using static HTML to run forms

During forms startup I get the message unable to read the file. I can bwoense the file by http://server/forms90/hsd65html/genoa.res
Any idea how to specify the term file in static html.
    Thanks

term is not a http address, but a directory address. So, you have to specify the path on the server:
    term=c:\oracle\forms90\.....

Unable to open wmv files using Lion.  Windows media player doesn't work.  Are there any suggestions.

macfriedchikkin's reply would make sense to you if you were trying to open a camera, but if you are trying to view streming media from a web site that is a different story. It helps to be very specific about what you are tyring to do on these forums.
I belive you would go into Firefox Preferences menu and tell it  to use VLC as the application to play WMV files. I'm still running Tiger,  however, so I can't tell you if it the latest version works wel that way. The Tiger version doesn't seem to, but a lot may have changed since then. (I'm only just getting around to installing Leopard next week now that there are too may apps I can't run on Tiger. ) Perhaps someone else on this forum can better help you set  up the player in your browser.
Or you can cut out the middleman and give VLC the direct video URL:
Choose Open File from the File menu and paste in the URL of the video, say,
    http://azul.streamguys.com/auduboncal-1
    or http://azul.streamguys.com/auduboncal-2
Your media should play this way. Dont forget to save the playlist for later.
I'l keep investigating on my end, and yes, I'm also  encouraging certain people who are streaming windows media in to switching to a different format

  • Where is IWEB domain file in lion time machine backup

I have read around and know how to locate the iweb domain file on my computer- apparently the library file is hidden and you need to press alt to unhide it.
But my problem is a bit different. I recently reformatted my system back to lion. I was going to use my time machine back up to restore but apparently its corrupt and I can only manually nagivate the files now. I'm trying to look for my iweb domain file while navigating the folders but cannot find it. I went to library and application support but there is no Iweb file there. This back up was done in lion, so I don't know where i can find this "hidden" library file.
I know its a hidden file because when i go to the library folder on my mac- HD>library> app support I don't find the iweb domain on my computer. Its only after i unhide it by pressing alt when i click on "go" do i get a library folder in which the iweb domain is housed.
I would really like to recover my website but dont know where to look on my timemachine backups.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The default location for the domain file is your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. So go to that folder in Time Machine and see if you can see and recover the Domain.sites2 file.
Then make the Lion library visible as described below and open it with iWeb as described below:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
NOTE: If you repair disk permissions with Disk Utility on your boot drive you will have to rerun the script with Terminal to make the Library folder visible again.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
Or you can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.

  • How do I edit the hosts file in Lion

I tried to edit the hosts file in Lion with: sudo nano /private/etc/hosts. Then entered Password. The window came up blank evev though I know there is data there.

Thanks BD for your response. I have looked at Youtube where they are demonstrating how to do this by using sudo nano /etc/hosts. After entering the Password it shows a screen with the text of the hosts file. On the bottom of the screen it shows the number of lines read. When I do the same thing I get a blank screen and on the bottom it says no file. I am either doing something wrong or this does not work. I even tried changing the permissions of the hosts file to R & W for system, wheel, and everyone. This also did not work. I have not tried Hostal yet but if I can't find a simple way to text edit the hosts file I will give it a try.

I'm having a problem running commands using .term files. I've created the .term files and saved them to ~/Library/Application Support/Terminal. When I open Terminal and go to File > Library, a submenu displays but nothing happens after I select the file I want.
    Can anybody help?

  • How to open or install fonts from a .suit file under Lion?

How to open or install fonts from a .suit file under Lion? Thanks!

although I believe I *have* used the .suit extension when I was creating suitcase files for TrueType fonts.
You can get away with that because you haven't really changed anything. It's already a suitcase file, with a Type code of FFIL (the Creator code is mostly irrelevant). Adding .suit still tells the OS it's a suitcase.
However, if you do something silly like change the Type code to LWFN (the outline portion of a PST1 set), then neither Font Book, or any other font manager knows what to do with it. It's recognizing the LWFN code, but the data structure of course doesn't match. The file is still a Mac legacy TrueType font. Suitcase Fusion 5 tosses this on the screen when I change the Type code to the wrong one:
Changing the extension to something obviously wrong, like .otf produces the same message. It's trying to parse the data according to what the extension says it is, and nothing lines up.
Trying to use .ttf or .ttc also doesn't work. A Mac legacy suitcase TrueType font is not built the same as a .ttf or .ttc font. Either is technically correct (it is a TrueType font), but that's the only similarity. What's happening in that case is Mac legacy TT fonts have all of the data in the resource fork. When you add .ttf or .ttc to the name, the OS and any font manager then tries to find the data in the data fork. Nothing there.

Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.

  • HT1338 how to open .osx file in lion

how to open .osx file in lion

I am not sure you can.  Open terminal (in utilities) and type the word file followed by a space.  Then drag one of those .osx files in to the termina.  You should have a line that looks like:
    file /path/to/osx/file
    Hit return and post results.
Also, see this link.  If what they say there applies here then you won't be able to execute those files.

  • Terminal & .term files

Terminal seems to prefer the internal "settings" approach to storing terminal session settings. With Tiger and earlier, I preferred using many .term files organized in the Finder (docked folder menu) to access my servers. One server per .term file, which worked great.
Now, every time I open a .term file, Terminal creates a new "setting" internally, and this accumulates every time I open a .term. Looks like I have over a hundred duplicate settings now.
Is there a way to better deal with this?

    Hi Doug,
I've finally had some time to play with this a bit and might have a solution. The new Terminal treats .term and .terminal settings file differently. Here's what I've found:
.terminal files are always added to settings when added. In this case you end up with host, host 1, host 2 host 3, etc in the settings list.
With .term file, if no chenges are performed via the Terminal application's settings it will only add it once to the settings list (so remove all other entries for the host in question and them open the .term file).
My problem was Terminal somehow changed my .Term files regarding the action on shell exit, it was Close window, but it was changing them to Nothing (end up with "Process Complete").
I was able to edit my .term files manually and change the shell exit setting to 1 (close window) and now the .term files behave as they did in 10.4.x. Of course, as soon as any changes are made via the new Terminal it all falls apart again.
More to come, as I play with this.
