Terminal command for fast loading of safari pages

Hi,
I am relatively new to the mac OS and I had seen a post on setting how soon safari displays a loading page. I guess that was the setting.
Can someone pls help and let me know if there is anything such setting.

Hi Aditya,
Yes, you did the command correctly. I must have set my value in the past which is why it currently works for me. You are seeing an error as it hasn't been set yet.
Quit Safari then try the second command to set a new value. Start up Safari to see if it feels any snappier to you. You'll need to quit Safari each time before trying to set a new value.
Also, is such a setting available for the Camino browser?

Hi everyone, when I look at the large photo in the "white" theme's Welcome template, I wonder when I drag and drop one of my photos in, does iWeb compress the photo for faster loading? Or should I compress them before adding to site?

In iWeb Preferences you can optimze images on import. But I always scale most of my images to 800 x 600 pixels prior to importing. I do this in Graphic Coverter which also makes the image files smaller by taking unneeded information out of the file, which also reduces the file size.

My mac book pro won't load any safari page or connect to the App Store, but it does load new emails.....

My mac book pro isn't loading any safari page, the blue loading bar starts to move then freezes....
Also if I try to access the App Store it won't load then says unable to connect to App Store
There is an Internet connection as it receives new emails

And now after logging in I get a white screen.....omg what's wrong with it?!

Terminal Commands for Identifying Apps as 32-Bit, 64-Bit, or Both

I posted a prior topic on this matter, but cannot find it. I have seen these what I am asking about, but can't locate them. I am trying to identify the terminal commands noted in my subject.

This is what I was looking for:
In terminal, type: file /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
What is returned is below. The second/third line identifies Safari as a universal binary with two architectures. The fourth/fifth line identifies the architectures as 32 bit and 64 bit. I am not sure what the sixth/seventh line does unless it identifies Safari as being compatible with PowerPC.

For any wondering. If SL is started in 64-bit kernel mode, then it will run Safari as a 64-bit program. The same will happen if SL is started in 32-bit mode. Leopard also will run Safari as a 64-bit program. Suppose one has a purely 64-bit program. The same things will happen. Note also that some 32-bit programs will run in 64-bit mode, and, at least in some cases, they will run faster in 64-bit mode. On the other hand, some 32-bit programs will not run in 64-bit mode.
Thus, at this time, the benefits from being able to start in 64-bit mode are minimal. That is, one might be able to run some 32-bit programs slightly faster than in 32-bit mode. On the other hand, this minor benefit would, IMO, be offset by not being able to run certain 32-bit or 64-bit programs simultaneously. I'll be sticking with 32-bit mode.
If there currently is more to the story than I have told, then please pile on. I am always interested in avoiding misinformation.

Terminal command for sata link speed?

OS10.6.7. MBP 5.3 with 256GB SSD.
Since the "negotiated link speed" for the SSD is 3 GB/s most of the time, it varies from 3 GB/s to 1.5 GB/s once in a while. Is there a terminal command to "force" the SSD to always connect with a "negotiated link speed" of 3GB/s??

If you "force" it, then you aren't "negotiating". I suggest letting it work the way it wants. You already get faster speed with that than most of us regular people could imagine.

Terminal command to put load on processor

I used a Terminal comand before to cause the computer to put a heavy load on the processor before but I can not remember what it is. I have a computer here that has issues every now and then when programs are putting a load on the comnputer.... but can get it to turn off but just opening closing appz. right now, so just want to run the command for a little bit.... but can't remember what the command is???

I believe the command you are referring to is:
yes >/dev/null &
For Dual-Core, type it in once then press enter and then type it again and press enter again, then both cores will be enabled.

Recently when I load a safari page it almost immediately stops responding. I haven't had any problems until recently. What's going on?

Just downloaded MacKeeper onto my 2011 MBP. Suddenly when I open safari, every page stops responding almost immediately after loading. The pages load from the bookmarks, so I know that the connection is good. Once a page hangs I can open another page, which then also hangs. I'm working through FireFox now but I'd really like to resolve this problem. Any suggestions>

MacKeeper is the problem. Your Mac does not rrequire a third party so called, "cleaning" utility. It will do more harm than good as you have already experienced.

Terminal command for tabs to open in same window

anyone know the terminal command to have all links open in tabs instead of a new window - why does mac call it tabs when it does not even actually work - any help would be great - i had the command and i deleted it......driving me nuts

There is no such command; there is a command to force targeted links to open in new tabs, but it will have no effect on links that are controlled by JavaScript. Open Terminal and enter:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClickCreateTabs -bool true
press Enter or Return, then quit Terminal and restart Safari.

What Is The Terminal Command For PRAM & SMC Reset?

Hi Folks - Cant get my Macbook Pro to shut down (instead it does a re-start) thus the key combination for these re-sets doesnt seem to function (no chimes). I saw in another thread a terminal command entry "sudo nvram boot-args=”-p -r” but I also saw it mentioned that entering that casued the following to pop-up "Note that resetting the PRAM will wipe out the contents of the boot-args environment variable, which means the command would need to be reissued each startup." Whats with "reissued each startup"? Also would like a an SMC re-set command. THANKS in advance!

I dont know of a terminal command but here is how to reset the SMC:
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove
Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery (to remove the battery - click here: MacBook or MacBook Pro).
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

What are the various techniques in which I can tune my OWB mappings for optimized performance?
Is it a good idea to increase my commit frequency from 1000 to say 25,000 to reduce I/O?
What other parameters could be important to the fast loading of data?

If you say loading, do you mean inserting?
If so, I gather from the fact that for you the commit frequency is relevant, that you are not using set-based loading, which is the fastest way to load records. Any reason why you don't use set-based loading, or didn't you know that the commit frequency is irrelevant in that case?

Looking for a terminal Command that will place all "Folders On Top", even in sub-folders. The utility I was using on Lion does'nt work on ML anymore.

I misunderstood your questions. I thought you wanted to display the files in the Terminal. You want to change the way the finder displays files.

Terminal command for Folder List?

What is the command line for Terminal to print out a list of folders on my HD? It doesn't have to actually send the result to my printer. I would happy with just a list on the screen.

Open Firefox and drag the folder into its open window. You'll get this type of presentation:
You can print the Firefox window. Much easier than messing with the Terminal (especially for those of us that are terminally challenged )

I have shut down all Bluetooth functionality using System Preferences, a I have disabled Bluetooth in the network settings. When viewing System Info, Bluetooth is enabled, live and well with specific custom settings. Does anyone know of a Terminal command(s) to shut down and prevent Bluetooth from working (I'm mainly concerned with file sharing but would like to shut down all functionality.
Also, the same for the Airport as well.

Terminal Commands for Internet Connect VPN?

I could maybe do this as an applescript but I'm hoping there are terminal commands which I can incorporate into an rsync script...
I need to open a PPTP VPN connection on a computer (Internet Connect VPN client, 10.4.8) , to connect to VPN services on OS X Server (10.4.8). The configuration works fine but really needs manual intervention at times. I would like to just script the equivalent of hitting the 'connect' button, so this can be run by cron.
Any ideas or links?

I did repair permissions with disk Utility and I used Onyx to delete the various caches, but that didn't work.
Everything is functioning. The problem isn't on the VPN server side, because I can log into the VPN on my Powerbook and the status shows correctly. There's definitely something going on with my G5.
This isn't a really huge deal, but it would be nice if the status indicated that I'm connected when I'm connected.
