Terminal command to find most recently opened files

Hello,
I have a terminal command (bash) that will find the last opened file (singular) from a given directory.  "$(ls -t | head -n1)"
I want to be able to search for multiple "last opened" files, say 20; I also want to be able to search either all user files, or at least direct the command to search within subfolders of a  top level folder.
Can anyone help.  I'd appreciate it!  Thanks.

This will find all files last used today. Reference. File Meta Data attributes. Curious about a file … mdls filename.
mdfind -onlyin ~/Documents  'kMDItemLastUsedDate >= $time.today()'

  • Clearing recently opened files

    How does one clear an application's recently opened files when control-clicking on an application? Clicking on the mac at the top left corner and clearing recently items only clears that menu, there still remains individual menus for say, preview or quicktime, that I wish to clear and I can't seem to find a way to. Cheers.

    It would be located in a directory with a path similar to the one below, replacing "ric" with your windows username.
    C:\Documents and Settings\ric\Application Data\JDeveloper\system11.1.1.0.22.47.32\o.ide
    --Ric

  • Most Recent Used File List

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to create List of most recent used files and display it in the main menu?
    Has anyone done that?
    Currently, I am opening one file at the time and I have the last
    path of opened file.
    thanx !

    You could recurse over the file system, creating a bunch of File objects, which you'd stick into a List. Then create a comparator that sorts the objects by File.lastModified() value, descending.
    Then you'd have a sorted list, from which you could easily take the N most recent files.
    Of course, the recursing would take a while. You may want to put creation and/or updating of this list, into a low priority thread.

    Offhand, you'll have to do it the hard way. I don't think Swing or Awt provide a default JMenuItem(), MenuItem() that does the file list. Now that you mention it, it does seem like an interesting project to do.
    You essentially need an array of the files, and for each file, create the associated menu entry, as in:
    String entryName = files[ i ];
    if ( entryName.length > 10 ) {
       entryName = entryName.subString( 0, 10 );
    JMenuItem entry = new JMenuItem( i + ". " + entryName );
    ...and define the event listeners however appropriate for your application.

  • How to remove Recently opened files?

    Is there a way to remove Recently opened files (File>Open Recently Edited File)?

    Reset the preferences. in PSE version 10 and older quit the editor (quit PSE in PSE 8 and lower on a mac) then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.
    In PSE 11 and 12, go to the editor preferences>general and click this button, then restart the editor:

  • Version 5.0 on a MAC will not let me switch between tabs. I can open a new tab, but when I try to go to a different tab, it just shows me the contents of the tab most recently opened. Help!

    Version 5.0 on a MAC will not let me switch between tabs. I can open a new tab, but when I try to go to a different tab, it just shows me the contents of the tab most recently opened. Help!
    Also, pop up blocker works for some time and then just stops working. I have to close and restart Firefox to get it to work again. Help!

    I had the same problem, but with Firefox 4.0. My first thought was to update Firefox (after of course restarting FF), but that didn't help it and I had the same problem.
    Among others, I had an extension installed and enabled called Tile Tabs 4.10 that I thought could feasibly creating this problem. So I went into my add-ons manager and disabled it, restarted Firefox and the tabs worked properly again. Unfortunately, the Tile Tabs extension is my favorite Firefox add-on and I use it almost every day for managing my web work tasks. I went to the add-on page for Tile Tabs and saw that there was a notice that version 4.10 didn't work properly on Mac OS, and to install version 4.9 of the extension. I saw they had a new, not-yet-reviewed version 4.11 that addressed the Mac OS problem, installed it, and everything seems to be working properly.
    I have no idea why all of a sudden I had this problem, as I hadn't updated Firefox or the Tile Tabs extension recently. Also, obviously this might not address your problem, especially if you don't have that add-on installed and enabled. But our problem started at the same time for both of us it appears based on your post time, so its probably not coincidence.
    But its worth a look, and you might want to check out other extensions if you don't have Tile Tabs that could be causing the problem.

    Hi,
    Please try the following 2 methods:
    1.Click to select the Add new documents to Documents on Start Menu check box on the
    IE tab of Tweak UI. To do this, follow these steps.
    Note To perform the following steps, you must be logged on as a member of the local Administrators group.
    In Control Panel, double-click Tweak UI.
    Click the IE tab.
    Click to select the Add new documents to Documents on Start Menu check box, and then click
    OK.
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=284896
    2.Go to Start—>Run—>Type regedit click ok
    Now you need to navigate the following key from left pane
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\POLICIES\EXPLORER
    Now you need to select the following key and delete from right pane
    NoRecentDocsHistory
    Exit your registry editor
    Now you need to go open MS office application click on Tools—>Options
    Click on General Tab, Check the Recently used file list checkbox and use the designated dropdown to select the desired number of entries and click ok
    Note Please backup your Registry before modifiying.

  • How to Increase the # of Recently Opened Files in DW CS6 ???

    Can anyone please give a detailed instruction on how to increase the number of Recently Opened files in Dreamweaver CS6? I have read the forums everywhere and do not see a solution here that works. For me there is no: Menus/MM/File_RecentFiles.htm
    I mean I have a "Menus" directory but no "MM" directory inside that... also, if I create one... I still need a sample "File_RecentFiles.htm" to copy. Or maybe someone knows another solution?

    I don't have DWCS6, just DWCS4 and DWCC. When I go to Program Files(x86) > Adobe >  Adobe Dreamweaver CC (or Dreamweaver CS4) > configuration > Menus > MM > and then open the file named "File_RecentFiles.htm" at either location, this is the code...
    <!-- MENU-LOCATION=NONE -->
    <html xmlns:MMString="http://www.macromedia.com/schemes/data/string/">
    <HEAD>
    <!-- Copyright 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 Macromedia, Inc. All rights reserved. -->
    <TITLE><MMString:loadString id="Menus/MM/File_RecentFiles/title" /></TITLE>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="javascript" SRC="../../Shared/MM/Scripts/CMN/string.js"></SCRIPT>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="javascript" SRC="File_RecentFiles.js"></SCRIPT>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="javascript">
    <!--
    //--------------- LOCALIZEABLE GLOBALS---------------
    var MENU_RecentFile  = dw.loadString('Menus/MM/File_RecentFiles/MENU_RecentFile');
    //--------------- END LOCALIZEABLE   ---------------
    // -->
    </SCRIPT>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    EDIT: It appears you should definitely have this file, unless something is wrong with your installation, or perhaps you are in the wrong directory?

  • How to clear recently opened files

    I'm using Flash Player 11, and I was wondering if I'd be able to remove the recently opened files under "file". Thanks!
    (Also, not related to this question, but is there a keyboard shortcut for "close" or "exit"?)

    What is your operating system & version?
    Do you mean the standalone player (Projector)?
