Terminal in Macbook Pro

I am trying to uninstall a game on my Macbook Pro and the Uninstall Guide takes me to Terminal. It then tells me to put in my password... everytime I try to I cannot type in Terminal. I've tried copying and pasting and nothing has worked. Please help me.

Ok but now I think I really messed up... I thought if I just deleted the whole folder it would go away and I could simply re-install it. but now that I've downloaded it again I can't uninstall the first program anymore

  • Audio stopped working in terminal app ( MacBook Pro retina)

Hello, just got my 15 MacBook Pro with retina a few days ago. When I came out of sleep mode, I noticed that the terminal app was not making any sounds anymore.
When I rebooted, it worked again. What would cause that?
Btw...before I rebooted, the volume up/down keys were beeping, but no submarine beeps in terminal app.
    Any tips,ideas ?
    Thanks,
    Rich

I really don't know - maybe someone will come along who will?
At least it's 'working' for your again - sometimes a simple restart will do amazing things!

  • Terminal Issue macbook pro and snow leopard

    Hello,
I have recently updated my 2.3gHz macbook pro to Snow Leopard. Since this time, the ctrl and option keys do not work in termnial or iterm. However, if I use an external keyboard, everything behaves as expected. I cannot seem to find anyone else who has had this issue or even where to look to try and fix it. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you for the help.

Below are the specs for Snow Leopard:
    *General requirements*
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of free disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

  • Does anyone know how to reset the fan on a MacBook Pro 13-inch (Late 2011) to it's factory setting speed (Maybe Terminal may help?)

I have a late-2011 13-inch MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite. (Standard configuration).
My problem is that I downloaded a fan control application and it worked perfectly, but it started to get annoying so I deleted it.
Does anyone know how to reset the fan speed back to factory settings (Maybe a command in terminal?)

    Abdussalam.A,
you mentioned that Terminal does not work at all for your MacBook Pro. What currently happens when you run Terminal? In what way does it not work?

  • Setup MacBook Pro as terminal to Mac Pro?

Is it possible to connect a MacBook Pro as a terminal to a Mac Pro without OS X server?

You can ssh into it from the MBP Terminal. As long as you can do the maintenance from the command line, this will work.
If this won't work for you, just use oncvnc/cofvnc to log into your admin user on the MP while they work on their user account. Don't have multiple users? Just set up an admin user for you to do maintenance.

I am trying to update Microsoft Office 12.3.3 on my Macbook Pro, but once it is installed terminal opens. What am I supposed to enter into Terminal?

Still trying to understand.  You install one of the MS updates (most recent was 14.2.2) and after the update completes (before the installer quits) terminal opens?  Or the installer quits and then terminal opens?
And who is prompting for "Check for updates" ("get taken back" to what)?  Is this coming from office, say when you run Word?   Certianly the updater doesn't cause this prompt.

  • Hibernate macbook pro through terminal hibernatemode 25

Hibernate macbook pro through terminal hibernatemode 25 on mountlion does it harm system

The real lesson is: Don't do something you know nothing about.
Open the Terminal and enter or paste:
    pmset -g
Press RETURN. This will list your current settings. You are interested in the setting named "hibernatemode." Most likely you will find it is "3". If so then enter or paste:
    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
    sudo pmset -a autopoweroff 1
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password and press RETURN again.

  • Hello I am on a macbook pro (retina IOS 9) i have installed xcodes and command line tools but codeblocks does not compile, terminal gives this message /Users/MacPc/Desktop/Untitled1: Permission denied      any one has a solution

Hello I am on a macbook pro (retina IOS 9) i have installed xcodes and command line tools but codeblocks does not compile, terminal gives this message /Users/MacPc/Desktop/Untitled1: Permission denied      any one has a solution?? please...

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Does the macbook pro have a 'dv terminal'?

I have macbook pro and panasonic dv video camera. Panasonic manual says I can use a dv interface cable to connect the camera to the computer if the computer has a dv terminal. Does the mac have a dv terminal? is it one of the firewire ports?
    many thanks

    Hi nandi,
always learning something new here: I have never heard the term 'dv terminal' but a quick goodgle search showed that this is another name for a 4-pin FireWire port.
So since the MacBook Pro has two FireWire ports the answer is YES.
But be aware that the Firewire ports on the MacBook Pro are full-sized ports either 6-pins for Firewire400 or 9-pins for Firewire800.
So the usual 4pins connector for Camcorder does not fit.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • HT1199 I have a MacBook Pro  10.7.3  I purchased finalemusic 2011.  When I try installing it, the Terminal on my macbook opens up a box and then does nothing. Is the problem with my mac? what do I do.

I have a macbook pro 10.7.3.  I purchased finalemusic 2011.  when I try to install it the terminal opens up on my mac and nothing happens.  What do I do
and is there a problem with my mac.   the program loads on my pc and it is for either windows or mac,

Yeah the default program for installing Applications somehow got changed from the proper program to Terminal.
Right click on the App .DMG file and select Open With. It should say DiskImageMounter.App. If it says Terminal then select Other, at the bottom of the list, and then find DiskImageMounter.app.
Or after you right click on it select Get Info thenn in the Open With area select Other then find DiskImageMounter.app.
By the way you are in the correct forum. It is a Mac problem.

  • MacBook pro terminal gets  -bash-3.2 MacBook pro locked out

get this when I go to try terminal on my MacBook pro. have tried just about every other way to getin to MacBook allhavefaileds, can I get in with terminal with proper command, and what is it, have tried some, but will not login

I ended up going with 2 8GB RAM cards and getting a SSD and my computer is faster than ever.  I can start it up in about 7 seconds and power it down in 3.  Also, every application I want to use opens instantly.  No more bouncing icon loading.  Definitely worth it.  I do use a lot of movie editing software so 16GB was needed.  If you aren't using that type of software I'd suggest 2 4GB RAM cards.  Hope this helps.

  • Terminal shows iPhone instead of MacBook Pro

I'm relatively new to Mac, but otherwise computer literate.  Have had occasion to go into Terminal to try to execute a couple of commands, but... everytime I open Terminal, it shows iPhone as the computer name instead of my MacBook Pro.  I haven't connected an iPhone to this MacBook in months (and in fact I no longer even own that iPhone).  How did this get changed, and more importantly, how can I change it back to the proper path?

The 'bash' shell does a reverse DNS lookup on your IP address, and then displays that as your computer name.  If no external DNS server responds, then the Mac will use the name in System Preferences -> Sharing
So there is a good chance your home router is your local DNS server, and it has associated your IP address with your iPhone, and is returning that name when 'bash' ask what name is associated with your IP address.
You can ignore this if you want.  It is harmless.
You can try beating up your home router for being stupid.
You can create a 'bash' initialization file and specify your own prompt
    nano ~/.bash_profile
    PS1="$(networksetup -getcomputername):\W \u\$ "
which will always return your System Preferences -> Sharing computer name
