i have a big problem...after that i install mavericks,app store not open,preview not open,terminal not open...
i try to do safe boot & restart,it's not solved my problem.
i can't find any info about how to solved this problem.
what to do? pleas halp!!!

PS currently running updates via terminal, but still trying to get this app store thing to work.
sudo softwareupdate -i -a

Preview app not working in Leopard

Hi pals,
I have just upgraded my Macbook (Tiger) to Leopard and updated with all necessary patches (10.5.2), but i am not able to launch preview which resulted in not able to launch all pictures and pdfs. When i double click on Preview (through Appln > Preview.app) the icon comes out and go immediately! Is there anywhere i can download preview from apple's site??? How do i repair it?

Unfortunately, yes it is a clue. The nib file in question is here:
"/Applications/Preview.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/MainMenu.nib"
As you can see, it is buried deep inside the application, that particular nib file is the programming stuff that tells Preview how to draw its menu. If that is broken, obviously the program can't run. And if that is broken, one wonders what else may be wrong. You really need the Leopard install disk so you can get an unbroken version of the program. Meantime, you can try other programs to look at things. For instance, almost anything will open a jpeg, including your browser. The browser will also open lots of other graphics, such as gifs and pngs. You can open PDF files with Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download from Adobe), or even QuickTime Player (believe it or not). Indeed, QT Player will also open pretty much any graphic file, including Photoshop files. I suspect you can use it to view pretty much anything that Preview will open.

Preview app not working in 10.10.2

Ever since upgrading to 10.10.2 the Mac Preview app has not been working correctly. Any file I create in it (a scan, a print-to-PDF, a screen-shot, or the like) cannot be saved. It gives me a message to the effect that the file cannot be saved because the file does not exist. Meanwhile the file is clearly visible on screen and fully functional otherwise. There are no write-only issues going on that I can see. Now today Preview couldn't even create a screen-shot, giving me the message that "Your screenshot could not be saved. Unable to create screenshot."
Has anyone else had this issue? And is there a way to remove and reinstall Preview without reinstalling the whole OS?
System details: iMac, 8GB ram, OSX 10.10.2, Preview 8.0 (859.7), 700GB of free disk space.

Thanks for the reply. Here is the Console data output after trying to save a file. (Response was the same "File cannot be saved. File does not exist.")
A couple of things I note in here:
The last line in the output is interesting to me--it refers to a file that I saved (or tried to save) about 2 weeks ago, but that I haven't touched since that time. Makes me think this file is somehow stuck in a queue somewhere and blocking all subsequent actions.
I should also mention that there's a lot of mention of Dropbox in here. I use Dropbox, but was not actually trying to save to it with the file just now.

Preview & app not working

Hello to all, my preview and app are not working/open anymore. can i get an advice how to fix these problems? also, system is asking me everytime to type my pass to acces/enable different apps. thanks and regards, liviu.

This is normal behavior. To scroll through go up one level in the finder and drag the folder to the preview icon in the dock or type apple+A and do the same

Preview app not working properly in SL

Since installed 10.6.1 SL on 15in MacBook Pro, preview.app won't display images in its main window; preview opens and images can be seen in preview "sidebar". iPhoto seems to be working ok so far.
Any suggestions?

IIRC the .jpg and .jpeg file format was supposed to be almost as safe as the .pdf format. Has something happened to make a .jpg or .jpeg file a threat to the Mac OS?
Back when I was using Windows (bought my first Mac in July 09) I used to subscribe to Fred Langa's Langalist newsletter. Later when he merged his newsletter with Windows Secrets, I subscribed to that newsletter as well. I remember reading in one or both that while it was theoretically possible to infect a .jpeg with malware, nobody had done it yet, and it was probably too difficult for anyone to be bothered with it. Perhaps my memory about this is faulty.

Preview app not working [SOLVED]

Adding this in case it helps someone else.
System: OS/X 10.8.2
Problem: Preview app launches but hangs; menu bar appears but now indows open, and the menu is unresponsive. Must force-quit to close. Preview -works- for a different user.
Solution:
In Finder, open ~/Library/Containers (to open the hidden Containers folder, in Finder use Shift-Command-G and type ~/Library/Containers in the pop-up window)
Delete the entire com.apple.Preview folder
Restart Preview
Assumption: the folder contains a cache folder, which probably held something with a circular reference. I did not try surgically removing the cache but went for the nuclear option of wiping the entire folder.

Preview app not working since Yosemite update

Preview will not open jpeg or any other document. I get an error message stating "an unexpected error" has occurred. I tried repairing disk permissions and worked with a Genius tech on the chat feature but nothing worked. It was recommended to uninstall and reinstall Yosemite but it failed to work. Quit Preview.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Remove the following. You may not find them all.
Containers/com.apple.Preview
Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist
Saved Application State/com.apple.Preview.savedState

Can not update to IOS 6.1.2 on iphone 4 & apps not working - HELP!!

my iphone 4 says there is an update available to IOS 6.1.2 when i click on "install now" nothing happens! the wording goes faint but no update actually happens! I updated to IOS 6.1.2 on my ipad and noticed that is said "download and install now" but on my iphone it only says "install now" (not sure if this matters) also my facebook and twitter apps no longer work in my iphone 4 and my calender freezes everytime I go to use it! I would just keep retrying. The update is first downloaded. Then the update is expanded and then the iPod contacts the Apple server to verify the update. For some reason at that time the iPod can't contact the Apple server. That has happened to me and it went through after one or two retries.

Apps not working help!

I have a problem, every time I try to open the App Store and some of the the other basic applications such as Preview, Text Edit, Calendar, etc. It just bounces up and down to open, but then it doesn't even open it just closes itself, please help. Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store..
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store. See if that made a difference.

You ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software, if you know what it is, according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode.

When fist setting up your new iphone you will be asked to log in with an apple id and password. If this did not happen you can then do as you suggested going to settings to itunes and app store and add your apple id login. This apple id login must have already been created for the iphone to accept it. If this apple id is already created but is not being accepted by your iphone you then should shut down your iphone and restart the device.
