Terminal runs a command when opened

Whenever I open the terminal, it runs some command I ran ages ago, for no appearant reason (in this case, CDs to some random library folder). It's getting quite annoying really, any idea what's causing this? If I knew what was causing it, I could set it to good use because there is a certain folder I DO need to cd into every time I launch the terminal...

And the last command there is checked, but unchecking it didn't fix it either,Well, since there was no file (saved .term) specified it shouldn't make a difference.
The simplest thing to do is to clear Terminal's preferences, by dragging ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist to your Desktop (with Terminal not running) and try again. If that clears it you can Trash the .plist from your Desktop.

    My MacBook Pro (earlie 2011) run very slow. When open Contacs show the color ball. I can't see duplicates contacs.

    Back up all data.
    1. If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloud preference pane. Press return to confirm, or click  Keep on Mac in the dialog that opens.
    2. From the list of groups on the left side of the Contacts window, select All On My Mac. If that group doesn't exist or is empty, skip this step. Otherwise, from the menu bar, select
    File ▹ Export ▹ Export vCard
    Save the exported contacts to the Desktop.
    3. Quit Contacts. Triple-click the text on the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return.
    A Finder window will open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
    4. Launch Contacts. Your contacts will be gone. If you took Step 2, then double-click the file you created in that step and confirm that you want to import from it. Your contacts will reappear.
    5. Re-enable Contacts in the iCloud preference pane, if you disabled it. Test. If the issue is resolved, delete the AddressBook folder and the vCard file on the Desktop and close the open folder window.
    Otherwise, quit Contacts again and put the AddressBook folder back where it was, overwriting the newer one that will have been created in its place. Post your results.

  • Run menu command to open ipv4 properties on NIC directly

    hi friends
    in windows 2008, to set ip address in GUI, we need to run ncpa.cpl, select NIC, properties, select ipv4 , select settings. as we see this is a long process.
    is there any trick so that we right something in run menu & system directly open ipv4 properties which provides us ip address page?
    for example somthing like this----> ncpa.cpl:NIC:ipv4
    thanks in advance

    Those are not scripts they are command lines.
    As an administrator with 10 years of experience you should know that there is no simple way to do what you ask.  You can write a script to allow a user to view the network properties of any adapter or configuration but you cannot have NCPA open to a
    specific adapter's property page. No one is wasting your time.  You are asking a question that cannot be answered.  What you want to do cannot be done.
    You should also spend a bit of time looking into what scripting is.  It is not how to type a command in the "Run" menu box.
    I have over 30 years experience.  I have heard this same question from new users many tmes as have most of use here.  It is hard to think that an trained and certified Windows Nertwork and system sadminitrator could make this mistake.
    Try searching the web and you will see how many times this question has been asked by new users with not results.
    I recommend starting here as you will begin to understand why this is as you learn how to write an administrative script.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/scriptcenter/dd793612.aspx
    And don't get mad.  Even people who have managed their own office computers can be successful without training.  Windows is designed for simplicity until you have to do something technical then it is as bad as trying to fix your own plumbing.
    Either get a do it yourself plumbing book or hire a plumber.  You cannot guess at how to replace a soil line or how to repair a furnace.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Is it possible to run a command when a monitor goes to a healthy state?

    Hi,  I'm using SCOM 2007R2
    Is it possible to run a command/script when a web application Monitor changes to a healthy state?
    I have a web application monitor that checks four different websites from our proxy servers.  on the aggregate rollup of all four sites I have a health rollup policy of 'Best state' meaning
    that the monitor will only go critical if all four sites are unreachable. If that happens I have a Diagnostic task that runs to Stop the w3svc service.
    This stops the proxy server serving ‘Page cannot be displayed’ content to the users within the company.
    What I would like to do is start IIS automatically when the web application monitor goes to a healthy state.
    I’m guessing I’m going to need a script that perhaps pings the sites every few minutes then starts the w3svc service if it gets a result.

    Hi,
    I recommend you touch the Orchestrator, Orchestrator can integrate
    SCOM.
    Use Orchestrator to design a Runbook for your task. When the state of a web application Monitor changes to healthy, then run a command/script.

  • Administrator Unable To Run Powershell Commands When UPD Enabled

    Hi All,
    We have a single Windows 2012 R2 RDS configured with UPD enabled for the defined collection. So far everything is working fine for standard users; however, the domain administrator can no longer run PowerShell commands (see attached screenshot).
    I believe this is the result of the UPD "impersonating" the local c:\. How can I get around this for domain administrator accounts?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    By UPD, you mean user profile disk, right?
    In addition, all non-administrator users can run the exact same PowerShell cmdlet, right?
    What about other PowerShell cmdlets, are administrators able to run them?

    In most cases, it seems, it is about fonts. FreeHand can't
    find the font used in the document and stumbles in the replace
    function (dialog). Also FreeHand saves information about default
    printer (?!?!) and may get confused there too.
    If you know the fonts used, install, if not reduce the number
    of installed fonts to minimum. Also try to import into new document
    like Judy suggested.
    If you have (access to) Illustrator CS3 try to open the files
    with it. If it works you'll know at least the file is ok.
    Thumbnail is probably the last survivor when the rest of the
    file gets corrupted.

  • Run function when open layout

    Hi,
       I need to run a function when open a layout, I follow the "How to Run Planning Sequences on Save and Other Events" paper, but fail.
       After get into debug, I notice that in the following code
    IF lr_lay->is_ready_for( cl_upwb_bsp_appl=>ce_get_data ) = cb_true.
          CONCATENATE l_id '_before' INTO l_id_seq.
    ENDIF.
    The if statement is not satisfy, therefore "CONCATENATE l_id '_before' INTO l_id_seq." statement never executed.
    Anybody know how to fix it?
    Thanks!

    I understand is that when open the layout, the function should run according to the how to paper, but it not run.in debug, I find out that "IF lr_lay->is_ready_for( cl_upwb_bsp_appl=>ce_get_data ) = cb_true."
    is false, therefore,the statement "CONCATENATE l_id '_before' INTO l_id_seq." is not run, therefore,the function is not run. However  since the code is standard from the how to paper, I can not find the reason.

  • GUI that open a Linux terminal, run commands and retrieve results

    Hi
    I am currently designing a GUI that should make it easier for users to execute a command line statement and read the information that is returned.
    I should not have any issues with the actual GUI, but I have not been able to find any examples to help with how to open a command terminal, enter a command and retrieve the results. I am aware that using a screen scraper is a possibility, but if anyone is aware of any examples to achieve this, that would be great.
    Thanks
    Matt

    Is the command line app a simple, straightforward one
    that just prints its output? (Eg. ls, dmesg, or any application
    that simply print results without reading input)
    If so, try this tutorial on calling a program
    and reading its output:
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html
    But if your commandline app is a rich-interactive one
    (eg. a full screen menu program or full screen text editor
    or something), then it's much much more complicated.

  • Bash script "open terminal and launch command

    I need a script to do this:
    launch a terminal, from this change working directory and then launch a command; the terminal have to remain opened after the command execution.
    Something like:
    $terminal cd $dir && $command
    If I open a terminal and I do:
    cd $dir && $command
    it works
    If I do a .sh script with this:
    xterm -hold -e cd $dir && $command
    or
    terminal -H -x cd $dir && $command
    when I launch it (the script) it doesn't work.

    karol wrote:
    xterm -hold -e "cd ~/test/ && ls"
    works too.
    I don't know what $command do you mean, but this will list th ~/test directory.
    It works also for me.
    With urxvt and xfce4-terminal don't work.
    But xterm is too minimalist, is there an advanced terminal based on it?
    And I don't unerstand why it doesn't work for xfce4-terminal but for it does for xterm...
    man xfce4-terminal:
    -H, --hold
    Causes the terminal to be kept around after the child command has terminated
    -e, --command=command
    Execute command inside the terminal
    man xterm:
    -hold
    Turn on the hold resource, i.e., xterm will not immediately destroy its window when the shell command completes. It will wait until you use the window manager to destroy/kill the window, or if you use the menu entries that send a signal, e.g., HUP or KILL.
    -e program [ arguments ... ]
    This option specifies the program (and its command line arguments) to be run in the xterm window. It also sets the window title and icon name to be the basename of the program being executed if neither -T nor -n are given on the command line. This must be the last option on the command line.
    What the ...?
    Is only my opinion that there aren't differences between:
    terminal -H -e "cd $dir && $command"
    and
    xterm -hold -e "cd $dir && $command"

  • How to get default command to open a terminal window? (Bash or Python)

    Desktop entry files (.desktop files) may indicate that an application requires a terminal window to run ("Terminal=true"), e.g. vim & maxima.
    How does a .desktop launcher determine which terminal to use? E.g. when opening a file associated with vim, what points it to 'urxvtc -e %s' or 'gnome-terminal...' or whatever?
    Is there a standard environment variable with the terminal command? $TERM only contains an identifying name but I don't see how to programmatically deduce the command from it. Grepping through the output of "set" doesn't show me anything useful either.
    My search-fu has failed me. Does anyone have any ideas?
    EDIT: Clarified subject and post.
    Last edited by Xyne (2011-02-02 14:00:14)

    Maybe my search-fu can be of help here:
    For KDE:
    terminal=$(kreadconfig --file kdeglobals --group General \
    --key TerminalApplication --default konsole)
    For GNOME:
    TERM_EXEC_KEY="/desktop/gnome/applications/terminal/exec"
    TERM_EXEC_ARG_KEY="/desktop/gnome/applications/termina/exec_arg"
    TERM_EXEC=$( gconftool-2 --get ${TERM_EXEC_KEY}) # e.g.
    "gnome-terminal"
    TERM_EXEC_ARG=$( gconftool-2 --get ${TERM_EXEC_ARG_KEY} ) # e.g. "-x"
    terminal="$TERM_EXEC $TERM_EXEC_ARG"
    For XFCE:
    Xfce has a directory called "share/xfce4/helpers/" which contains desktop entry files for commonly used terminals, browsers and email apps. These entries contain extra keys like X-XFCE-Category=WebBrowser or X-XFCE-Category=TerminalEmulator .
    Then there is a file called ".config/xfce4/helpers.rc" which in my case looks like:
    WebBrowser=firefox
    MailReader=thunderbird
    From: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] … 01661.html
    edit: there is also xdg-settings (in xdg-utils) which can store default-app information, but i'm not sure if all DE's make use of this..

  • Applescript for running sudo commands in terminal

    I'm a newbie when it comes to Applescript and was wondering if someone could help with a basic request. I need to write a small script to do the following:
    1. Launch terminal
    2. Run the 'Sudo -s' command
    3. Enter the administrator password (in plain text)
    and then
    4. run some sudo commands like "sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow HiddenUsersList -array-add administrator"
    I actually WANT the administrator password to be in the script in plain text even though I understand the security risks (I will literally be the only person to ever see the script). I've trawled forums all over but can't seem to find what I am looking for and cannot get it working by patching together the various commands I have found. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

    Try it by opening the Cmd prompt as the actual process and passing the Filename and its arguments as the arguments of the Cmd process.  If you notice there is a "-C" before the Filename and Arguments in this example.  The "-C"
    tells the cmd to execute the commands and then close itself.  You can also use a "-K" which tells the cmd to execute the commands and keep itself open.  Being you are not showing the cmd window you don`t want to keep it opened because the
    user can`t close it so, that is why i used "-C".
     I don`t have the program so, you can just experiment to see what it does.  Maybe you should try using "-K" and show the cmd window by commenting out the CreateNoWindow line so you can see what is in the cmd window while testing.

  • Office Web Apps Issue - "Sorry, something went wrong" message when opening a document (any MS docx,ppt etc) in IE. With Chrome, it pops (Microsoft Office needs your permission) message and on RUN, it opens the document.

    When opening any Microsoft documents ( docx, ppt etc) in SharePoint 2013,
    Internet Explorer behavior : "Sorry, something went wrong" An unexpected error has occurred message and then nothing happens.
    In Chrome : Pops (Microsoft Office needs your permission) message and on clicking RUN, it opens the document.
    In Firefox : the documents opens, after asking which application do you want to use to open it.
    The feature (Open Documents in Client Applications by Default) is not activate.
    Why the MS documents are not working in IE 10?

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to open Microsoft documents in SharePoint 2013.
    I recommend to Run the following PowerShell in OWA Server :
    Remove-OfficeWebAppsHost # To Remove any restriction
    Or
    New-OfficeWebAppsHost -Domain <String> # To allow specific domain Name
    In addition, you can allow OAuth via HTTP using the following commands:
    $config = (Get-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig)
    $config.AllowOAuthOverHttp = $true
    $config.Update()
