Terminal's line wrap turned off globally instead of per window?

Hi, I've had a problem that's been bugging me since 10.6 came out.
I have to log onto HP switches as part of my job, and their weird command line interface disables line wrap on the terminal window. Fair enough, they can do what they want, once I'm finished I just close the window.
However, since 10.6 came along, when the HP sends the sequence to disable line wrap, it disables line wrap in all open windows. New windows opened after this are fine, but all windows open at the time (including to all the non-HP network equipment I have to manage) lose any text that goes past the end of the line, instead of wrapping. Note it's lost, it's not overwriting the last character on the line.
This feels like a bug to me where something that's supposed to apply to a single window is applying to all. I'm getting frustrated having to close all my windows and re-log in to all my other sessions after I have to log into an HP switch.
To head off any comments about terminal prompts (since that's what most of my searches turn up), I use tcsh with the very boring prompt "%m%# ". It's not that.

Besides my previous iTerm suggestion in your original Snow Leopard forum post, you could try adding the following to your prompt
set prompt="%{e[?7h%}%m%# " # enable auto wrap with each prompt
This way each time you get your tcsh prompt, it will reset the autowrap mode.
I tried this, and it seems to work.

Well HP didn't actually write them, but rather written by Digital Equipment Corporation for Digital UNIX (formally OFS/1), but then it became Compaq Tru64 UNIX, and then finally HP Tru64 UNIX, where HP is successfully killing the product.

I do not know what is happening with Terminal, but you could try (even as an experiment) iTerm (free download)

iTerm is my preferred terminal emulator. At work, I typically have 2 iTerm windows, and each window has about 8 to 10 tabbed sessions ssh'ed into at least 7 different systems (Macs, Linux, Solaris, AIX, to name a few). Lucky for me, my current emplorer has not made me work the HP-UX Yet!

I don't think my computer is completely shutting down. I think it is only going into sleep mode. When I hit the power button, it turns off immediately instead of shutting down.

I don't think my Mac Pro is completely shutting down. When I hit the power button, it just turns off immediately instead of going through the normal shut down procedures. I heard that I should try resetting the SMC, which involves removing the power cord. However, when I remove and replace the power cord, it turns on automatically, so I can't even properly reset that to see if it is the issue. Is this probably a power supply issue?
Actually, in case this information helps... The computer went into sleep mode the other day, and would not come back. This is a work computer that I use for our photography business, and at this point I am just trying to run it as a drive to get the photos onto our new computer, but this issue is keeping us from doing so. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

How to turn off volume adjustment sound under Windows 7

Hey all,
I'm running Windows7 x64 on an Intel iMac (July 2010 revision).
Things are running well for the most part. However, I am unable to find a way to turn off the blooping sound played when adjusting the volume in Windows 7 (I know how to turn it off in OS X). I have tried turning off all system sounds under Windows,but the volume adjustment sound still plays. Does anyone know how to turn this off? I find it jarring. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give.

You have two choices. You can choose that your applications not resume their previous state when you shutdown or restart the Mac by deselecting the checkbox that appears prior to shutdown:
Or you can navigate to the General pane in System Preferences and deselect the Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps option. However, if you do this, applications will never resume their previous state, even when quit and restarted during a single boot session.

Same thing happened here ~ tech guy at a local authorized Apple repair store said it had something to do with improper backup from which the restore would be made. Still have a phone that asks to be connected to Itunes but won't do anything else . . . frustrated.

How to turn off the Charms Bar in Windows 8.1

I have a new HP laptop with Windows 8.1. I absolutely HATE the charms bar. It's very annoying. I have turned off the corner function so the Charms bar no longer pops up if I swipe the corner edges, however, it still pops up randomly. I'll be typing along and it'll just pop up, blocking whatever I'm working on.
I have absolutely no need for this charms bar. In fact, the only thing I've used it for is to get to the option to turn them off. However, on this laptop, that doesn't completely turn them off.. I have tried going to the mouse control panel to turn them off, but that option isn't offered. However, I don't think it's the mouse pad causing them to pop up anyway.. I'll be typing along, not even touching the mouse pad, and they'll just suddenly pop up.
What is the cause of this and how can I get rid of it? I'm getting rather desperate and at times feeling the need to throw this laptop out the window!!! I much preferred my HP Windows XP laptop, and only replaced it because XP is no longer supported.. Window's 8.1 is one of the most frustating systems Microsoft has come up with.
Please help me to turn these dang things off for good!!
UPDATE: I think I found the solution. I received this link from a Microsoft Chat Line Employee. I followed the directions and the charms seem to be gone.. YAHOO...

UPDATED UDATE: lol... I posted this below, but will repost here.. The solution given to me by the Microsoft Chat Line employee did not work.. Well, it worked for one day, I shut it down for the night, and when I turned it back on in the morning, the charms were back with a vengence.. Seriously, worse than ever before, popping out constantly. It was like they were really pissed off...
I went to Wally World and bought a $16 wireless mouse, which is keeping the charms at bay.. I actually think it's easier to use than the mouse pad on my laptop anyways. I can use it on the arm of my recliner, on my laptop next to the mouse pad, on a desk top (obviously), but the point being, unless I run the cursor to the very extreme right side of my screen, the charms have remained hidden...
I have a business website, and while working on it, the charms were constantly popping up as I was trying to add pictures and descriptions. It was seriously driving me out of my mind.. Everything was taking me twice as long to add, time I don't have to waste.. I've been working on it this morning using the wireless mouse and the charms bar has not popped out once..

Turning off imac display whilst in windows, is it possible?

I'm currently downloading a large file and i have to leave my mac on over night, is there any way to turn off the the display, like in mac osx you hold down shift+control+eject to turn it off. I am using windows 7 ultimate

Turn off music store on library window

I just installed iTunes 6.02 and noticed a new feature. When I go to my Library, half of the window is now occupied by the Music Store. If I move the cursor over the line between the two sections, there is no resize option (as there is between the Source area). I want to see only my Library and not the Music Store. Is there a way that I can turn off the Music Store on this window? I find this invasion of my Library highly annoying.

Yeah, at first I thought it was just shameless advertising, but it's actually just there to show you links to other music by whatever you are listening to on iTunes. If it can't find something similar to whatever you are listening to, it shows up as the top 5 downloaded songs and a couple links to the music store.
Not completely annoying, but it's a slight step in the wrong direction in my opinion. It just seems a little bit too forceful. I don't mind some advertising, but this was on the verge of overstepping the Apple law of not intruding upon the user experience or annoying the user with ads or anything else equally vexing.
I remember watching one of my college teachers demo a classical music CD for us in music class using the RealPlayer. The only thing I could think of was how annoying all the goofy advertisements and animation was. It was too busy and overwhelming. It would have killed any inclination to use it, had I never found the Mac.

Did you mean the Adapter is greyed out and we cannot click to turn on it? Is there a wifi switch on your laptop? If so, please turn on it first.
Also please try the network troubleshooter to see if the issue can be fixed:
1) Right Click network icon in taskbar and select "open network and sharing center"
2) Highlight wifi connection then at top click "Diagnose this connection"
The troubleshooter will discover that the WiFi connection is turned off and offer a "Apply fix" option click that and windows will enable the wifi connection.
To make sure the driver for Network adapter is the right one, please go to manufacturer’s website to see if there is the one compatible with Windows 8.1.
If not, we can try to install the one applied to Windows 8 in compatible mode to see what’s going on.
Since such issue can be caused by driver bug, please also contact the manufacturer to see if they can provide more information about this issue.

Some 3rd party plugins "turn off" when I close their window?!

This is really weird. I run the latest version of Logic 9 on both my studio i% iMac AND my older, core 2 duo MBP. Here's the scoop.
I'm demo'ing some 3rd party plugs and when the plug in window (GUI) is open, the plug works great. If I hit key command "v" to hide the window (although it's still technically "open") no problem. If I CLOSE the GUI by clicking the close icon, the plugin turns off totally, even though it still displays as an active insert on the channel.
Here's the kicker...THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON MY iMAC Running Snow leopard (I'm suspecting this is the issue). My Laptop, running the same logic version, but on the older OSX does not experience the same issue.
Any ideas on how to resolve? It's not the end of the world, but it sure is a pain in the a**.

Hmm, I've never heard of this.
If it only happens on one system, try trashing the preferences. You could have a conflicting key command assignment or something...
