  • Select Applications (Terminal, Preferences) Freeze On Mouse Hover

This behaviour started happening a couple of days ago. When I hover my mouse over an application (such as Terminal) it freezes with the message 'process Termainl [pid] caught causing excessive wakeups...'
Some applications (such as Google Chrome) work fine. Others (iTerm, Terminal, Hipchat) are susceptible. If the application exhibits the behaviour - without fail, simply hovering the mouse over the application window, without clicking or giving it explicit focus, will cause it to freeze.
Prior to this, my battery had swollen and the suspicion was that it was pressing against the trackpad resulting in a constant stream of interrupts. I took the battery out and am typing this without the battery - the issue persists.
I also tried disconnecting the trackpad. Same issue, even when using an external mouse to navigate. That seems to contradict the idea that it's an issue with the trackpad.

So after spraying the board with a non-conductive, plastic-safe solvent ("Superwash"), I'm seeing the behaviour in less applications.
Annoyingly, iTerm2 and System Preferences are still affected. Terminal now works, Hipchat now works.

  • Terminal Server Freezing

I have several Terminal Servers that run Windows 2008 R2 that have been having issues recently. We just started requiring Smart Card Authentication on the server. Logon works with both username
and password and smart card logon. The smart card is required for Exchange services. A little after we changed to this, our terminal servers have begun freezing. By "freezing", I mean that when the users log on via their Thin Clients or Remote Desktop,
they are stuck at the "Group Policy Client is updating" screen. They are not able to log on to another terminal server (we have them all set in round robin for load
balancing) unless we log them off. When we log into the server, we must log on via the local machine by going into XenCenter because we get stuck when trying to just remote into them. Once this begins to happen though, we are not able to log the user off. We
can open Task Manager and click log off the user but they never get logged off. RDSM also stops reporting users logged into the servers as well. The only way we have been able to clear the users and fix the problem has been to restart the server and that logs
    off dozens of users. <o:p></o:p>
This is an unacceptable situation here that's causing a lot of problems for our users and we tried a last ditch effort of rebuilding all of the servers. After rebuilding them all and getting
them online. They were acting fine for a few days. Now they are starting to do the same thing as the older servers and have the same problems. I have been googling fixes for this issue for a week with no solutions working so far. Any help would be amazing
since we are all out of ideas here. Thank you.<o:p></o:p>

  • Highlighting Text Freezes OS9

When I highlight text in Quark or Simple Text in OS9, many times before I get to the end of the line, the computer freezes. Both Quark and Simple Text have been assigned much more memory than they need. I've run the system thru Disk Doctor and rebuilt the desktop and it still freezes when I highlight. Any suggestions?
    Thanks from Gina

Have you tried starting up with just the apple basic extensions? To see if there could be an extension conflict.
The only other thing that I could think of is it always the same font? Does it do it with other fonts? Possibly a corrupted font.
I am not familiar with this problem, but that would be a couple of ways to trouble shoot.

  • Text freezing up

My text stopped working last night. Phone is working fully.
When I go to my text button screen freezes for a second or two then opens. And freezes once again. This time it freezes for three or four seconds then screen flashes and returns to home screen.
I have already turned my phone on and off. I have Also reset my phone twice. I have yet to restore my iPhone in danger of losing content.
I have not upgraded to 2.1 (Or whatever latest update is - one update under. I have the original iPhone. Can anyone help me out?

    Matt2458,
You could try resetting all settings if you haven't already. This option is located under Settings >General > Reset.
If that doesn't do the trick, it sounds likely you would want to restore your iPhone, setting it up as a new iPhone. Before doing so just be sure to sync your contacts, calendars, camera roll photos, and transfer purchases to your computer. Essentially, you just want to make a back up of your data.
More information on the restore process: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    Hope this helps,

  • Terminal text export bug

When lines of text starting with spaces are printed in the terminal by a program, it seems that the leading spaces are not correctly exported by shell > export text. Anyone got an idea ?

    Hello
Without seeing actual script, I can only guess. And I'd guess that you're missing some quotes as shown below.
    #!/bin/bash
echo $(printf '    string with leading spaces')     # leading spaces are removed
echo "$(printf '    string with leading spaces')"   # leading spaces are preserved

  • Is this a known bug (copying text freezes up APE)?

I have had this happen to me several times now, and am now pretty sure what causes it:
APE freezes up, becoming totally unresponsive. I can't even shut it down (both Organizer and Editor) via Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete).
What gets me to this juncture? When I try to rename an image, and have a series with the same base name (such as GoingOverNiagaraFallsInaBarrelOfMonkeys, as in:
    GoingOverNiagaraFallsInaBarrelOfMonkeys1
    GoingOverNiagaraFallsInaBarrelOfMonkeys2
    etc.
...and I copy the "base" portion via Ctrl+C -- voila! Everything stops dead in its tracks as if a 900-lb. Grizzly Bear in a bad humor swatted my CPU.
    Is this a known bug?

when I select all the text in a description (FIle | Info, Description text box on first tab) and copy it, it freezes up (eventually it recovers, though).
I can't reproduce that with my PSE 8.  Perhaps there's something specific about one or more of your photos that's triggering the problem -- attach one of the problem photos to your reply (use the Web form, not email), and I'll see if happens with my PSE 8.

  • Terminal text during startup

I just got a brand new core 2 duo iMac. When it starts up and shuts down there are a couple of seconds where the whole screen is black like a terminal screen is displayed.
It shows a bunch of white text dealing with the kernel and services that are starting or quitting respectively. It's really weird and very windows-esqe, kinda like the BIOS screen. The computer seems to run fine otherwise.
I've never seen a mac do this before and would like it to go directly to the normal blue start-up screen followed by the login window. Any help or info on this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone. Unfortuately the Apple Tech Support guys had me do a archive install and now a fresh install of OSX after a formating. Pain in the butt, but since I had my files still on my backup drive it's all good. Just a waste of time and more time to reinstall all of my apps. If the problem isn't fixed I'll try resetting the parameter ram or whatever it's called. That's such a simple solution and it didn't cross my mind. I don't think I've had to do that since OS9!

  • Strange double identity issue in terminal, text files showing as unix terminal files [suspected 'workgroup' issue?]

Hey everyone. Using Mavericks 10.9.2 but a few odd things that don't seem easy for me to pin down or change keep coming up. Hopefully most the things I'm concerned about people here can prove me wrong. Firstly over the last few weeks I've noticed that when I log into terminal half the time it says the correct thing, ie, garys-mac-pro:~ gary$
But sometimes a totally different identity seems to start up, so the text changes from the above to sudo-seedling:~ gary$ and I noticed the following text in my sharing center in system prefs looks like this:
    Terminal: http://i60.tinypic.com/w814eq.png
    Sharing: http://oi60.tinypic.com/w814eq.jpg
"Your computers name is: gary’s Mac Pro
Computers on your local network can access your computer at:
    sudo-seedling.local"
I'd've never changed the name myself, and wouldn't have used that either, which is what aroused my attention. One final thing that I'm not 100% sure is relevant or not is that of late I keep getting 'shared devices/servers', sometimes with names you might expect like BTHUB4 (why would they put a server with an admin password I've not been told in my local network though?) another called WorkGroup (again a server that I can not get any info or access from without a password) and a few times others called ADMIN. I live at home with one other person who doesn't even have a phone, let alone a computer. When these turn up there's no info I can get on them by right clicking get info (all identifiable info just has a perpetuating spinning white wheel), they don't even seem to be accessible though terminal, I tried for a while.
[EDIT: A brand new 'shared' something has now popped up, is called home, same *** all the other ones (screencap http://i.imgur.com/fZTFsg3.png )
I've also noticed two similarly "hidden" elusive drives/servers in my root directory called home and net with very odd properties:  they say always say they are zero bytes and created in 2001 =/ But the "date modified" date is always right up to date, and I get the same blank spinning wheels for any info from them.  just dont like having so many new, hidden, remote and unexpected things on my MAC.. So why can I not delete them? Anyone know what these are? Are they normal? See this picture http://oi62.tinypic.com/iyzyc1.jpg
One final thing I noted that I have no clue about and defo did not set up are the settings in network center for WINS and DNS, the WINS has my 'so called' netbios name, and below that that I'm working in a workgroup called workgroup  http://i57.tinypic.com/jadxmh.png
And towards DNS both boxes are greyed out and unchangeable, don't know if that is normal or not. Screncap http://oi60.tinypic.com/szbkmc.jpg

  • Texting freeze

When texting, I can type about 10 characters and then it freezes and returns to the home screen. Does anyone know what causes this or how to fix it?

This sounds like classic software corruption of some sort.  I would power you device down by double tapping your home button and you will see a row of icons show up on the bottom of your screen.  Tap and hold one of the icons until they all start to giggle then let go and you see a red circle with at white "-" sign.  Tap the white "-" sign on all of the apps on the bottom row until they are all closed, then tap the Home button one time to make the other apps stop giggling.  Once you have don that, hold down the Sleep/Wake button (on the top of your unit) until you see the the slider to power down your unit appear on the screen.  Slide the slider to power your unit down.  Once the unit has been powered down for at least 60 seconds, power it back on.
    This should solve your issue.

  • Typing text freezes Safari

My husband and I each have our own user accounts on our MacBook and mine is working normally. His, however, in the last two days when he types any text in Safari on almost any web page it freezes Safari forcing him to force quit. It doesn't happen when logging into Yahoo email or library web sites, but seems to on any other field. He can also use the google search on the address bar. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Problems with Safari specific to one user account narrows the possibilities of what is occurring.
Might be a Font issue at play. Download a copy of Font Finagler. This will allow you to clean the Font cache. Try Safari again. If this does not help, I'd look at specific Safari folders/files:
First via the Finder>Home>Library: move the com.apple.safari.plist file found via the Finder>User Library>Preferences folder to the desktop and restart Safari. If Safari is stable, you'll need to reset your custom preferences in Safari, as well as any special settings in the Edit (spelling) or View menu (custom icons, status bar, etc.) If no change, move the file back to its original location, replacing the newly created file.
If the above doesn't work, go to the User Library>Caches>Safari and move that file to the desktop. Same routine as the previous step (restart Safari, etc). If no go, move the folder back etc.
Next, move to the desktop the Safari folder (which holds bookmarks, history, etc), and restart Safari. This folder is found in the same User Library accessed for the preference file. Restart Safari. If no relief, move the folder back, replacing the newly created one. If it does work, then you'll need to move one file at a time back to its original location, restarting Safari each time to isolate the problem file. When Safari crashes, you found the culprit.
If the above doesn't work, go to the User Library>Caches>Safari and move that file to the desktop. Same routine as the previous step (restart Safari, etc). If no go, move the folder back etc.
