Terminal window jumps on move

If I have a terminal window open, am working in a different program, and I immediately move the terminal window, the terminal window will initially follow the pointer, and then it will jump back to the original position. It will then continue to move following the pointer, but will have a separation of anywhere between a fraction of an inch to several inches, depending on the speed of movement with my mouse.
It is almost as though it jumps back.
This will not happen if I change the focus back to terminal and then move the window.
It happens even with multiple tabs.
I can't find anything searching the web, so I decided to post.

Hi game,
I remember doing something like
the stage.rect = the stage.rect
prior to going to the new movie.

  • Document windows jump

I just upgraded to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro running a dual monitor setup (MacBook & Cinema Display) and now when I have my document window on the Cinema Display if I do any thing such as select an object etc. the window jumps so its top half is on the lower part of the screen while the bottom half of the window goes off the bottom of the screen. If I move it back up it just jumps back when I try to do something again. Help!

I have the exact same issue CDLeaver, and think this might be a bug, where a retina display laptop is connect to a non-retina second monitor.
What I discovered is that when I move my secondary screen so that it is positioned above the primary macintosh screen, the InDesign document window on the second monitor continuously repositions itself, it continuously jumps when you move it into position and then start working on it.
Once I lined up the tops of both monitors in the System Preferences > Display Preferences, the problem went away.

  • DVD no more and Terminal window woes?

    Two issues here:
    #1
Today I updated my OSX 10.3.9 with the very latest updates. (I bought iLife '05 and the instructions recommended this). After this update I can no longer mount any DVD discs [data, (not even iLife '05 install) movie's, etc.] DVD's do not appear on the desktop, the Finder side bar, or in the Disk Utility window. CD's work fine though. For the last couple month's, (actually since moving up to 10.3.9) movie DVD's have been problematic ... frequently needing force quits of DVD Player, restarting with the DVD inserted to force it to mount, etc. Today's update has killed it altogether.
    #2
After doing everything imaginable (repair permissions, dump caches, zap pram, etc.), I went to the terminal to update prebinding as a last ditch effort to find a solution, but now the terminal window apppears as only the very top left corner of the window with just a close button and enough room to double click it to minimize it into the dock. I cannot expand the window to see anything. I've again repaired permissions, dumped cache files, run MacJanitor, zapped the pram, you name it.
    Summary:
Now I've lost DVD capability (and hence cannot boot from my old 10.3.3 install disc because it's on DVD) and my termial is non accessible.
    The plea:
    "Help, I've updated ... and I can't get up!"
    Help would be so appreciated!
    G4 MDD Dual 1.25ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Thanks for the help!
The font issue sounds likely since I also recently went through all of my fonts with Font Doctor and reorganized everything with FontAgent Pro. I thought I had left system fonts untouched but maybe something happened inadvertantly. I'll check it out.
Regarding the DVD, I tried, as you suggested, restarting w/ option key and the OSX 10.3.3 DVD did not show up. I'm wondering though, CD's (both data and audio) mount just fine. It seems if there were truly a hardware issue, CD's would not mount either. Thoughts on this? (I'd just hate to buy a new DVD drive if it's is not the real problem.)
Thanks again and happy New Year!

  • Messages window jumping around the screen

I just updated to OS X Yosemite, and I'm having a strange issue with the Messages application window.
    Here's the scenario:
I have Messages and Safari open at the same time.
I click on Safari to bring it forward and work with a page.
I then click back on Messages after receiving a message.
The message input field does not automatically get focus, so I click on it to give it focus.
The Message window "jumps" down to the bottom of the screen, with the bottom of the window behind the dock.
I can actually type my message, but I have to drag the Message window back up from behind the dock.
Any way I can "pin down" a window so it doesn't jump like this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi All,
This is a bit of a known issue with no real fix yet.
It seems it is worse if the Messages window is grabbed right at the top edge when the change size icon then appears.
Of course you can "slide" a click as it were to that spot .
Some have said it effects trackpads more then mouse systems but I have seen no real proof of that.
I have seen it once in Terminal as well  (a badly aimed click with a bit of drag that then dangled th Terminal window for a moment).
I have seen  all Macs listed as suffering from this, Retina Displays, no Retina  ones, Laptops and desktops and so on.

  • Jump to movie behavior

No matter what I do, I cannot get this behavior to work
properly. I have made the smallest and simplest 2 movies with one
marker on each movie, and still the behavior does not recognise
that there is a marker in the destination movie.
I have searched everywhere and am feeling very alone ... it
seems that no one has ever had this problem:
    BEHAVIOR ERROR: [#frame: 20, #movie: "4.dir"], Sprite 0
    Behavior "Jump to Movie Button"
There is no marker "three" in movie 3.dir. Enter a valid
marker (see Message Window) in the Behaviour Parameters dialog.
Something that I don't understand in this error message is
why it is from "#frame: 20 " when it is really coming from frame 1
    of movie: "4.dir"
Something else I don't understand is the
gNavigationButtonList. When I look at that in the message window,
it only ever refers to frame numbers, never a frame name.
These 2 latter points might help someone analyse this problem
for me. I could also email the 2 tiny movies ( less than 70k each)
if anyone has the time to help me.
    Thank you,
    Carmel.

You should not (ever) use just a number for a file name. I'd
    bet that's your
    problem.

  • Messages window jumps around the screen

Not sure if anyone else has had this issue, cause I've been asking other people who work with me and are running Yosemite and they haven't had this issue...
I've been having this strange issue where I'm in another application and once I click on the Messages window and move my mouse away, it then jumps to where ever I moved my mouse. I'm not click and dragging the window, the window just jumps to where my mouse went like half a second later. Not sure if this is some sort of bug with Yosemite [10.10.1 on a 13" Macbook Pro Retina], cause I don't remember this happening with Mavericks.
Not even sure what I could possibly do to remedy this besides trying to reinstall the operating system which I would like to avoid, but maybe someone has seen this and knows how to correct it?
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi,
    Known Issue
Messages window jumping all over the place in Yosemite?  (thousands of views and 59 posts).
It has been reported to Apple but feel free http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html
    There is no known fix.
At present the best advice is not to click in the top bar of Messages' main window - it seems it is only that top bar that makes it happen.

Look in the Parallels help menus in Parallels or on the Parallels site. Your question has nothing to do with Windows compatibility.
Once you get to the the proper menu item settings you will have a slider to increase/decrease the size. Just move the slider in the direction to increase.

  • Sample C++ code to open terminal window ?

    Friends:
I'm using the Command Line Utility XCode C++ tool:
Does anyone have sample C++ code which opens the terminal window to show the products of the run? I want to include this code at the beginning of my C++ code so that the window opens automatically during the run.
If I can set the terminal window properties that would also be appreciated, though not necessary.
    Thanks amigos,
    Migs

    Hi Migs,
Just to perhaps explain why folks were confused by your question and maybe also clarify the answers that you've already been given...
While you're *in the process of writing* a command-line tool within Xcode it's usually easiest to just "Build & Run" your tool totally within Xcode's environment. That's why Xcode provides it's own integrated "Console" window - so you can view the results of your tool's execution without having to leave the Xcode environment. This saves you the trouble of having to switch back and forth between Xcode and Terminal during the development process.
However, typically, a command-line tool is ultimately intended to be run from the Unix command-line (ie Terminal.app). So *once you're finished writing and debugging your tool* you will then generally want to run your tool from Terminal (and not have to launch Xcode). You can find the final executable in the "build" folder of your Xcode project. And at this point you would typically launch Terminal and execute your tool from Terminal's command prompt. Once your tool is finished there's no need to launch Xcode every time you want to run it.
In Terminal you would just type:
    /path/to/your/tool
You might even want to move the final executable to a directory that's in the Terminal's $PATH so the shell could find it using only it's name without requiring the path.

  • Closing Terminal window tabs shrinks Terminal window height

Open a Terminal window, press Command-T to create a tab, and then Ctrl-D to close that new tab, the Terminal window height decreases by one row.
This most certainly appears to be a bug. How do I report this to Apple?

I am also experiencing this problem, however if you use the Basic setting the problem doesn't exist.
I am using Novel and I have the problem. It's quite annoying.
I noticed that if you set the fontsize to 12 then this problem exhibits, however if I change the size to 11pt or 10pt (10 is the default for Basic, 12 is default for Novel) then I don't have the bug.

    No.

  • I installed 4.01 and now when I click on a link in the menus or the seach window, the whole firefox browser window jumps

This happens when I click on most menu links. For example, if I click on Help and select "About Firefox" the entire browser window jumps. The same goes for if I click on the default search box or on the Google Toolbar search box.
If I click on something out of Firefox, such as my desktop or an open program, it jumps when I click the Firefox tab on my task bar to return to Firefox.
When I click a shortcut link, such as in bookmarks, it does not do it.

For those of you who have tried to clear this problem up with virus scans, various malware scanning programs, tdss rootkiller, etc....I have another possibility. I found another thread on this very forum where someone suggested the problem was in the router...specifically, there were manually entered DNS addresses in the router setup. I logged into my router (192.168.1.1) and sure enough, there were DNS addresses loaded and it was setup to use those DNS addresses. I simply clicked on the option to pull the DNS addresses automatically from my ISP, changed the password, and the problem was gone.

  • Keyboard shortcuts: adding service to open a Terminal window not being saved

    Hi
Objective: A shortcut to open a terminal window with the path of the 'in-focus' Finder window (Mavericks).
    Solution (that doesn't work): Apple Menu/System Preferences/Keyboard
    Select: Shortcuts
    Select: Services
Check box for: New Terminal At Folder
    Close System Preferences
This approach seems to be advised on quite a few sites. When I do it, the service I add simply doesn't get saved. I go back into the System Preferences and look under the path above and see that the box for New Terminal Åt Folder is unchecked.
Any help in being able to achieve my objective would be greatly appreciated :-)

Those things are saved as part of the workspace. It sounds as if the current workspace file has become corrupt. Close ID, then go to your user profile and you'll find the workspaces folder under \Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 6.0\<language>\Workspaces. Delete the "current" xml file for the workspace and restart ID. The workspace will be restored to the conditions set when it was saved, but hopefully will remember changes again when you close the program.

  • Code to close terminal window?

I am running code in an IDE and want to be able to have any existing terminal window close before the code is run.  This way I don't have to keep closing them manually every time I run the code again.  I'm coding in C.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    What about setting the
Terminal -> Preferences -> Settings -> Shell -> When the shell exits: Close the window
Now just make sure that the last thing your script does is exit from the shell and your window will be closed.
Then again, do you "Really" need a Terminal session to run your code?
That is to say, running programs and scripts can be done without needing a terminal session.  The Terminal session is just a window to the command line, and you do not need to display anything via the Terminal display, then there is no reason to have it open to run your program.
You can use Applescript ("do shell script" statement), or Automator ("run shell script" action), or you can use a 3rd party utility such as Platypus that will put your program or script in a double clickable app that does not need a Terminal session.
Another option is to use a different Terminal emulator, such as iTerm which also has the ability to close the window when the shell exits.  It can even automatically quit iterm when the last window is closed.

  • (SOLVED) Closing a terminal window

When I am through using the terminal window, I hit the X at the top right corner but get this message: There is still a process running in this terminal. Closing the terminal will kill it.

It is complaining because you are still running su. That's a fair warning, not a bug.
If you don't like it, use sudo instead. It's safer anyway than leaving a terminal sitting around in su-mode for arbitrary lengths of time.
Edit: btw, if you have run su to gain root access, and you want to close the terminal, you can get out of su by typing "exit". Then you should be able to close the terminal.
But really, don't use su. That's just asking for trouble. Sudo is your friend.
