Terminal

ok guys,
I'm not new to macs but don't use terminal very much. Just got my new i7 and opened terminal. I entered ' smartctl -a /dev/sdX | grep LoadCycleCount ' hoping to find out how many cycles my hard drive has registered not knowing if the command was valid or not. I was prompted for my password which also said to exit ( not give the command ) type a short string of words ( Can't remember ) I tried to enter the string but couldn't. Then decided to close the window but a window popped up asking if i wanted to quit everything. I hit enter, and all seemed well, but when I opened another window in terminal I have nothing but a prompt, and can't give any commands.....tried ' sudo periodic daily weekly monthly ' and there is no response. My computer seems fine, but afraid I locked myself out of terminal.
Sure I know don't screw around with terminal unless you know what your doing, so let's not go there. I'm looking for advice trying to see if I can give a simple command like running cron, and if I can't is there a way I can go back to default.
Thanks a lot...

I didn't download any software before issuing the command, and didn't use migration assistant. I can't see any other problems at this point other than being locked out of terminal. I know this might be impossible to trouble shoot over the net. The command wasn't given because I never typed my password.
Come to think of it I must have pulled that command off a windows site. I've got to quit staying up so late : ) Here's the link where i got the command. It's about half way down the page. If anyone's brave enough to copy the command to terminal, let me know what happens when you decline to enter your password ( assuming you decline ) If it's an invalid command ( which I believe it was ) nothing should happen. I clicked the window closed because I couldn't type ctrl+C like I was instructed to do.

  • Cannot delete file from external hard drive (error code 36) in Finder, but Terminal is ok

    I have a relatively new Macbook Pro Retina 15" and have a Western Digital 1 TB Passport.  I've been using the passport for about a year now without any problems on older Macbooks in my house.  I used to be able to read and write to this drive no problem.  I am using the Paragon NTFS for Mac software in order to read and write to the NTFS drive.  When I navigate through the drive in Finder, if I try to create a new folder, I do not have a problem.  If I try to delete that folder I just created, I get this error:
    The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “untitled folder” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)
    The folder has nothing in it whatsoever.  I just created it.  But if I go to Terminal and I run
    rm -rf "untitled folder"
    This works fine.  Why is Terminal acting different than Finder?  This does not happen on my other Macbooks.  Thanks in advance.

    Thanx for such qucik reply!!! The pages were great, it had an answer for my problem, but unfortunately it also involved me dealing with it only on the MacIntosh HD itself, not on mounted external drive I suppose... So it didn't work they say that there is an icon in the left corner indicating locked folder - I don't see any icon on it. It says you can untick the box to unlock the folder - there is no tick to be unticked. Finally, they say that if I don't have permition or rights I cannot delete it. But how do i change permittion which already says that i can read and write in it? So everything appears to be normal only I cannot delete it. there is not even any warnig telling me I don't have enough rights, it just requires the password and after me typing it in it makes the sound of scraping paper but does nothing more. I aslo had some problems with emptying Trash after being seemingly succesful with one file and had got so far to have them appear in the Trash (no clue how this one actully got there though..) I followd the advice and emptied the Trash with Terminal. The Folder is still there but it shows 0 Kb... So far so good BUT: It is still on the external drive, so I obviously only managed to copy it into the Trash!!! Phew, innit a bit too tight to poor owners, this macbook?? I want my rights back!

  • Closing Terminal window tabs shrinks Terminal window height

    Open a Terminal window, press Command-T to create a tab, and then Ctrl-D to close that new tab, the Terminal window height decreases by one row.
    This most certainly appears to be a bug. How do I report this to Apple?

    I am also experiencing this problem, however if you use the Basic setting the problem doesn't exist.
    I am using Novel and I have the problem. It's quite annoying.
    I noticed that if you set the fontsize to 12 then this problem exhibits, however if I change the size to 11pt or 10pt (10 is the default for Basic, 12 is default for Novel) then I don't have the bug.

  • Report gets cancelled or terminated after eight hours

    While doing load testing of reports, all of my reports got cancelled or terminated after eight hours. I bang the report server and database with 30 long running reports using RWCGI60. The rwcgi60/showmyjobs shows that all are running for 8 hours and after that boom... all gets cancelled one by one with in a five minute period. I still see the SQL session activity on database. The report server log says the server engines are crashed one after the other. I have Maxengine set to 15. When I submit 30 reports I see 15 running and 15 enqueued.
    Is there any timeout parameter set on RWCGI60 where by it lost contact of database? RWCLI60 works fine and finished all reports.
    Thanks and Please let me know if you further information...

    Hi
    The timeout is a seeting in http server on which you host Reports CGI. Once that time limit is reached and no output is written, the web server would time out for that request. Reports CGI does not have any timeout parameter property.
    Thanks
    Rohit

  • "Program terminated in remote system NONE: Logon failed" when adding a new table

    Hello,
    I set up a replication flow from a SAP ERP 6.0 EHP7 with SAP ASE 16.0 source to SAP HANA 1.0 rev 82 target
    I am using a standalone SLT system NetWeaver 7.0 with DMIS 2011_1_731 (with SP 1 to 7).
    I have 100 tables to replicate.
    I succeeded to set up replication for 57 tables. These tables are replicating properly.
    Whenever I try to add a new one (with LTRC transaction, Data Provisioning -> Start Replication), the new table is marked as 'Failed' after a little while.
    When I press 'Show Error Log' button I got an obscure error message:
    "Program terminated in remote system NONE: Logon failed "
    I do not understand this message. I checked both on SAP ASE source and SAP HANA target. I am still able to connect against both source and target.
    Can you please tell how to troubleshoot this error.
    Thanks in advance,
    Christian

    First thank you for answering my questions. I really appreciate your answers.
    I rechecked the documentation.
    "Application Operations Guide SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server Document Version: 2.3 – 2014-07-08"
    Page 29 - 30
    3.5.2.2 Data Transfer Jobs
    This section explains the relationship between the number of data transfer jobs and the number of available background work process.
    Data transfer and data transformation processing on SLT server system is accomplished by the background work processes of the underlying SAP NetWeaver ABAP application server. Each job occupies 1 background work process in the SAP LT Replication Server system. For each configuration, the parameter Data Transfer Jobs restricts the maximum number of data load job for each mass transfer ID (MT_ID). In total, a mass transfer ID (MT_ID) requires at least 4 background jobs to be available:
     One monitoring job (master job)
     One master controller job
     At least one data load job
     One additional job either for the migration objects definition, access plan calculation or to change configuration settings in the Configuration & Monitoring Dashboard
    Example
    If you set the parameter Data Transfer Jobs to 04 in a configuration “SCHEMA1”, a mass transfer ID 001 is assigned. As a result, the following jobs should be in the system:
    1 Master controller job: /1LT/IUC_REP_CNTR_001
     At most 4 parallel jobs for MT_ID 001: /1LT/IUC_LOAD_MT_001_001/~002/~003/~004
    When configuring your data load or replication scenario, consider the following:
     Do not define more data transfer jobs than the number of available application server background work processes. If all available background work processes are already occupied by jobs, any other job will have to wait until a free work process becomes available. This can lead to long wait times until a new activity (for example creating triggers) can start, and can also result in significantly increased latency times for data replication.
     The number of dialog work processes in the source system corresponds 1:1 with the number of data transfer jobs in the SAP LT Replication Server system.
     Besides the work processes allocated by the data transfer jobs you need to provide additional available work processes for controller and monitoring jobs, the migration objects definition, access plan calculation or to perform configuration changes, and so on.
    Sizing for SAP LT Replication Server involves determining how many work processes are required to perform the initial load of data into the target system within an acceptable timeframe, and accomplish the change capturing and the transfer of data changes to the target system within expected latency times.
    Ensure that you add enough additional work processes to allow other required SAP LT Replication Server jobs to run.
    Finally, you map the number of required application server work processes to their system resource consumption (CPU, memory, disc space) using the formulas provided by the SLT Sizing Guide.
    With the simple formula below, you can calculate the number of required application server work processes (WPs) on the SLT Server for each active SLT configuration.
    The number of required work processes can be determined by adding
     The Number of required data transfer jobs ,
     plus one background work process for Central Master (Monitoring) Job (only one per system!),
     plus one background work process for Master Controller Job,
     plus 3-5 additional empty background work processes (recommended per configuration),
     plus approx. 3 dialog work processes (recommended for each configuration).
    Note: A lack of available free application server work processes can negatively affect the data load or data replication processes.
    To summarize everything, the number of 'Data Transfer Jobs' must be set depending of the number of source tables, it is not the actual number of tables.
    Assume that for my 100 tables I use 10 'Data Transfer Jobs' :
    - The number of work processes on the SLT server would be 20. I took the simple formula of the documentation:
    10 data transfer jobs ,
    + 1 background work process for Central Master (Monitoring) Job (only one per system!),
    + 1 background work process for Master Controller Job,
    + 5 additional empty background work processes (recommended per configuration),
    + 3 dialog work processes (recommended for each configuration).
    - The number of dialog processes on the source server would be 10 ( equal to the number of 'Data Transfer Jobs')
    Am I correct ?
    Regards,
    Christian

    The URL http://punhjwsapsrm:8000/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbpsc02/! was not called due to an error.
    Note
    The following error text was processed in the system SSS : Internal Error
    The error occurred on the application server PUNHJWSAPSRM_SSS_00 and in the work process 1 .
    The termination type was: TH_RES_FREE
    The ABAP call stack was:

    HTTP 500 - Internal Server Error
    Your SAP Internet Communication Framework Team

    Hi Amol,
    First of all the sicf transaction is to be used only if you use the internal ITS.
    Now you have to put an external breakpoint in the source code of the ABAP Program or FM you want to debug , one of these in your case :
    Function: B40B_READ_TABLE of program SAPLBBP_BD_DRIVER_40B
    Function: META_READ_TABLE of program SAPLBBP_BD_META_BAPIS
    Form: LOCATIONS_READ of program SAPLBBP_ATTR_F4
    Function: BBP_ATTR_F4_SLOC_PPOMA of program SAPLBBP_ATTR_F4
    Form: STG_LOC_GET_FOR_LOCATION of program SAPLBBP_SC_APP
    Form: STG_LOC_GET of program SAPLBBP_SC_APP
    Form: LOCATION_STG_LOC_GET of program SAPLBBP_SC_APP
    Form: USER_ATTRIBUTES_GET of program SAPLBBP_SC_APP
    Then launch the transaction in IE, once the program reaches a breakpoint, you'll get the ABAP debuger in IE.
    Regards.
    PS: if it doesn't work, put the parameter ~generatedynpro in BBPGLOBAL service to have it applied to all BBP transactions

    Olaf:
    Thanks for your reply. Sorry, my bad. I inadvertently copied wrong [name] form the msdb.dbo.backupset. On 3/13 and 3/14, the two file names did not match. In trying to select another example to show you this morning, I found that the names are now matching!
    What I was doing was to create dynamic t-sql to retrieve the latest prod backup of the database, and then restore it with move to the development server. This is an ad-hoc job that the developers can run by themselves whenever they require a refresh. Unfortunately,
    we only keep 3 days worth of backups for these databases, so the original disk file I was trying to use to restore no longer exists. Researching the original error, one of the error descriptions was that the restore could not find the file requested.
    I thought this very strange since I get the file name directly from the backupset table. Further research did indeed show that the file names were different, but unfortunately, I failed to save the details of the file names. Anyway, in looking for a new example
    to show you this morning, I have found that the file names are indeed matching exactly again. If this error pops up again, I will be sure to save all details and re-post.
    Thanks, regards and best wishes to you and yours,

  • Error in creation of billing document: update was terminated

    hi experts,
    i am facing one problem while creating "Billing Document" in VF01 . After i save it says 'Document 941700032 has been saved' but later after i click on tht it shows d error "update was terminated' and billing document no i not getting created .
    Thanks

    After save, and during SAP's update processing, a fatal error occured, causing a rollback of the transaction.  Since the user is no longer in that same transaction at this point, SAP issues the Express Document to attempt to inform that there was a failure.  Check ST22 for abend...in the meantime, check for exit coding that may be causing an error...In my previous life, working with SD/LE at lot, I was able to get these regularly by fouling up my exit coding....lol.

    It appears as if my startup disk has been reversed and not using the fusion ssd portion as it should.  At least its now reversed as to what it used to be originally before.  the 128gb ssd used to be on top.  Is my mac booting fusion correctly?  Thank you for responding as I was about to reformat.

  • Unable to connect offcard terminal with jcop simulator

    Hi all,
    I have made a JavaCard applet, called DisplayApplet.
    I am using Eclipse with the JCOP tools plugin.
    But now I want to make use of an own Terminal that connects to the applet and communicates to it using APDUs.
    I don't have a smart card reader/card, so I want to use the simulation environment.
    Now I read that I must use the "Remote" value in the JCTerminal constructor to connect to the simulation environment, but it doesn't work (of course I specify the remote value as input parameter).
    I am unable to open a terminal.
    I get the following exception at the term.open() command:
    can't find/open/connect/reset smartcard/reader:
    Failed to open [localhost:8050]: Connection refused: connect
    Can anyone tell me what's wrong and how I can connect from an own made terminal to a JCOP simulation (I want to run the terminal within Eclipse, because I want to add a UI later on top of it) ??
    Here is the code of my own made HostTerminal:
    import com.ibm.jc.*;
    public class HostTerminal {
         public static final String remoteTermName = "Remote";
         public static final String nativeTermName = "pcsc:4";
         public static final String remoteTermPara = null;
         public static final String nativeTermPara = null;
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              String termName = nativeTermName;
              String termPara = nativeTermPara;
              if (args.length > 0) {
                                   if (!args[0].equals("native")) {
                        if (args[0].equals("remote")) {
                             termName = remoteTermName;
                             termPara = remoteTermPara;
                        } else {
                             try {
                                  System.out.println("args[0] > " + args[0]);
                                  System.out.println("args[1] > " + args[1]);
                                  termName = args[0];
                                  termPara = args[1];
                             } catch (Exception e) {
                                  System.out.println("invalid command line options");
                                  System.exit(1);
              // create terminal, i.e. create a connection to a reader
              // and wait for a card insertion
              JCTerminal term = null;
              try {
                   term = JCTerminal.getInstance("Remote", null);
                   term.open();
                   term.waitForCard(5000);
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   System.out.println(
                        "can't find/open/connect/reset smartcard/reader: "
                             + e.getMessage());
                   System.exit(1);
              System.out.println("Connected to reader and card terminal ...");
              // now get the object representing the connection to the card
              JCard card = null;
              try {
                   card = new JCard(term, null, 1000);
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   System.out.println(
                        "can't connect to card in reader: " + e.getMessage());
                   System.exit(1);
              String s;
              // get atr of card and print it
              try {
                   ATR atr = card.getATR();
                   s = JCInfo.atrToString(atr);
                   System.out.println("Connected to card and received ATR: " + s);
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   System.out.println("can't get ATR: " + e.getMessage());
                   System.exit(1);
              // Note here that the DisplayApplet has to have to aid "display". The IDE
              // supports ascii characters in AIDs by using | when editing AIDs.
              // For instance, |display results in 636F756E746572.
              System.out.println("Selecting Display applet ...");
              DisplayApplet displayApplet = null;
              try {
                   byte[] aid = ("phil0Display").getBytes();
                   displayApplet = new DisplayApplet(card, aid);
                   displayApplet.select();
                   s = JCInfo.toHex(aid, 0, aid.length);
                   System.out.println(
                        "Selecting of Display applet with aid " + s + " succeeded");
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   System.out.println("can't select Display: " + e.getMessage());
                   System.exit(1);
              }

    If you run the JavaCard simulator from within Eclipse make sure you disconnect the JCOP shell before trying to connect via JCTerminal() from your Java program. Use the command /close
    If you want to disconnect the JCOP shell automatically modify your "Java Card Application" run-configuration:
    set Shell commands to execute: to /close
    BTW: You were talking about JCOP 3.0, the Eclipse 2.1-plugin or do you use the new pre-release version JCOP 3.1 for Eclipse 3?

  • Problem with Photoshop hangs/freezing for users on a terminal server

    Dear Forum!
    I'm having some trouble with Photoshop freezing over a period of ~20 minutes when you (1.) user the eraser with special brushes and (2.) copy and paste material from a PDF to Photoshop. As you might notice by the size of this post i'm getting quite depserate over here and need some help.
    A Little background information...
    Photoshop CS6 is installed on a terminal server with ~25 Active users where 3 of them are using Photoshop.
    The operating system on the server is Windows Server 2012 R2.
    There are no additional add-ons just a plain installation of Photoshop in that matter.
    The server uses 40-60% of the memory most of the time (mostly a bit less, some times a bit more but never 100%) and 40% of the CPU.
    There's enough space free on the disc.
    The problem in detail...
    There are two occasions where the freezing has occured most of the time. After it hangs for the first time, it will happen everytime you do any of the operations over a period of ~20 minutes and it's Mutual for all users. When it freezes, the whole terminal session freezes but the program i still responding (it's not getting set to "not responding") when viewed from Another user through the task manager. Ending the process as an administrator sometimes work, although from the moment i end he proces it takes about 10-60 seconds Before the program actually Closes and the user gets back Control. The easiest thing to do most of the time is if an administrator forces them to log out.
    1. The first occasion is when you use the eraser with a brush that's not standard but manually added. The names of the brush packages used are:
    Extacy__Elemental
    KKC_Fractal
    Kornkid's_Grunge_Set
    and the problem is with all brushes inside those packages. The way i evoke the problem is the following:
         1. Start Photoshop
         2. Create new
         3. Fill the background with any color
         4. Select the eraser tool
         5. Change the brush to one of the ones mentioned above
         6. Program freezes
    2. The second scenario when the problem occurs is when the users copy something from a PDF to Photoshop. The way i evoke this is:
         1. Open a PDF
         2. Select area and copy it
         3. Open Photoshop
         4. Create new
         5. Paste into Photoshop
         6. Program freezes
    Solutions we have tried so far...
    I've been working on this for several round now and i'm not entirely sure on what exactly i have done. I will try and do the following solutions once more but i'm pretty sure that i have tried most of them.
    Update graphic card drivers.
    Resetting all Tools:
         1. Select options for a tool
         2. choose "Reset all Tools"
    Resetting presets:
         1. Hold ctrl + shift + alt while Photoshop is starting
         2. select "yes"
    Tested if it matters if i have a pen connected or not, which it doesn't.
    Removed the special brushes (but it still freezes when copy/paste from PDF)
    Removed "save in background" and "automatically save recovery information" options
    Updated to latest version.
    Turned off OpenGL
    Solutions i haven't, but will try...
    Reinstall Photoshop
    Change font preview size
         1. Go to "type"
         2. select "Font prview size"
         3. select "none"
    Delete system font cache
    Close all Adobe applications including the Creative Cloud desktop app (if installed).
    Navigate to \Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\Appdata\Local
    Delete the *FNTCACHE*.DAT or *FontCache*.dat files.
    NOTE: The asterisk (*) indicates various numbers, letters, or words, such as FontCache-S-1-5-21.dat or COFFfntCache.dat.
    Delete Photoshop font cache
    Exit Photoshop and the Creative Cloud desktop app (if installed).
    Navigate to the appropriate folder
    Photoshop CS6 and earlier.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe
    Windows 7: \Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe
    Photoshop CC and CC 2014
    Windows 7 and 8: \Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC or CC 2014
         3. Delete the TypeSupport folder (Photoshop CS6 and earlier) or the CT Font Cache folder (Photoshop CC and CC 2014), and empty the trash.

    Hi Mylenium!
    Thanks for your reply but since the users work on the terminal server via remote dektop the only data sent through the network is a "Picture" of what is happening on the server. All the operations are handled on and by the server and nothing is executed on the users local machine. Also all files are stored on the server therefore the load on the network is minimum.
    We are not the first in the World to run this setup and i know that this is possible to do since i've read about others running PS like this.
    Kind Regards,
    J. Alm

  • Applescript for running sudo commands in terminal

    I'm a newbie when it comes to Applescript and was wondering if someone could help with a basic request. I need to write a small script to do the following:
    1. Launch terminal
    2. Run the 'Sudo -s' command
    3. Enter the administrator password (in plain text)
    and then
    4. run some sudo commands like "sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow HiddenUsersList -array-add administrator"
    I actually WANT the administrator password to be in the script in plain text even though I understand the security risks (I will literally be the only person to ever see the script). I've trawled forums all over but can't seem to find what I am looking for and cannot get it working by patching together the various commands I have found. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
    Sean

    I've included two examples.  The preferred way & the hacker way.
    with administrator
    It is easier to diagnose problems with debug information. I suggest adding log statements to your script to see what is going on.  Here is an example.
        Author: rccharles
        For testing, run in the Script Editor.
          1) Click on the Event Log tab to see the output from the log statement
          2) Click on Run
        For running shell commands see:

        --  debug lines
        set unixDesktopPath to POSIX path of "/System/Library/User Template/"

        on error errMsg
            log "ls -l error..." & errMsg
        end try
    end run
    This version has an inline password.
    Notice the echo 'password' |
    The single quotes are no accident.

  • Hyper-V could not replicate changes for virtual machine 'machinename': The connection with the server was terminated abnormally (0x00002EFE).

    I have a 3 node cluster that has replica setup to replicate to another cluster off-site.
    Suddenly one of the servers is not replicating with the error:
    Hyper-V could not replicate changes for virtual machine 'machinename': The connection with the server was terminated abnormally (0x00002EFE). (Virtual Machine ID CC0FD4CC-F9B7-4C68-ABE8-B7D52A87899F)
    All other servers are replicating fine so there cannot be a permissions or connectivity issue between the 2 clusters.
    This server has 2TB of data so I'd rather not have to start the replication again.
    Does anyone have any pointers?
    Thanks.

    Hi drensta,
    Based on my knowledge , "hyper-v replica broker " is needed for failover cluster replica .
    Here is a link for "Why is the "Hyper-V Replica Broker" required?"

  • BSP Terminating event not triggering

    Hello Friends,
    We have a scenario, where a BSP application is triggered from a Workflow, for a certain approval, and after the user clicks on Approve button on the BSP Page, the BSP would write to the workflow container using SAP_WAPI_WRITE_CONTAINER and then we call SWF_WSC_CALLBACK_LAUNCH.
    This used to work, but after an almost Fatal incident with our system, we are not able to get this to work.
    We can see in the workflow log that the container is written, but the terminating event is not triggered, and the workflow doesn't move forward
    Is there a setting that we're missing..??
    Thanks,
    Tat.

    Have you tried:
    call function 'SAP_WAPI_DECISION_COMPLETE'
