Terminating "orphan" LDAP sessions

I was developing a function that uses DMBS_LDAP.INIT(host,port) and then DMBS_LDAP.SEARCH_S (notice, no bind) to do anonymous LDAP searches. This was working well until I started to get "ORA-31201: DBMS_LDAP: generic error: number of active LDAP sessions exceeded the limit of 63 sessions" errors whenever calling the function. It looks like I was creating sessions by calling INIT and not terminating them. To fix the function, I have to find a way to "unINIT" the sessions (perhaps UNBIND_S, even though I never do a bind), but the more pressing problem is clearing the sessions that the errant function has already created. How can I terminate these "orphan" LDAP sessions?
TIA

did you ever get an answer to this?
My only option is to restart some (which?) of the server Oracle processes

  • Detected orphan OWB sessions

    I encounter this problem everytime a OWB Client developer has his PC crashed or rebooted every now and then. The next time then the OWB Client is started, it pops up with the window indicating 'Detected orphan OWB sessions' and the related information.
    Afterwards, even when the session is killed and removed through the Oracle Enterprise Manager, the message keeps on coming till we issue the ORAKILL command on our Windows server. This is a pain as we have formalities to access the oracle server command prompt and this requires lot of time. Is not there any simple way to release these sessions and locks using OWB Administrator or other methods without having to connect to the OS command prompt on the Oracle Server to issue the ORAKILL.

    Uday,
    If you have DBA privileges, then you can use:
    alter system kill session '<SID>,<serial#>'
    in order to kill sessions. The script below may be helpful to query what is going on:
    select 'alter system kill session '''
    || to_char(sid)
    ||','
    || to_char(serial#)
    || ''' immediate ;' kill_session
    , username || ' (' || osuser || '/' || terminal || ')' dbosname
    , program
    , status
    from v$session

  • ORA-31201 and APEX ERR-1082 LDAP sessions

    Hello!
    While using Single-Sing-On from APEX against OID (Portal Applicationserver 10.1.4) we get the following error:
    ORA-31201: DBMS_LDAP: allgemeiner Fehler: number of active LDAP sessions exceeded the limit of 63 sessions
    Error ERR-1082 Error in executing authorization scheme code.
    It works many times, but suddenly we seem to get a limit!
    Details:
    ========
    We use Application Express Version 2.2.1.00.04.
    First we've tried to use the APEX-LDAP-Function is_member().
    (See thread Re: Using Oracle Portal group for an authorization scheme
    It worked, but we got the same error as above.
    Then:
    But as I read in thread ERR-1082 Error in executing authorization scheme code I changed the strategy and then used the CHECK_GROUP_MEMBERSHIP function.
    We set the evaluation point for the authorization scheme to "Once per Session", too.
    But we still got the error.
    What am I doing wrong?
    What can we check? OID or APEX?
    Here is the code for both (main-function for checking the membership and a helping function which is getting the right value out of the OID on basis of the :APP_USER-Value).

    I should have called it unreachable code. You have this block:
    IF retval = DBMS_LDAP_UTL.SUCCESS THEN
    --DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('DBMS_LDAP_UTL.SUCCESS');
    return true;
    else
    return false;

    No code after this block will execute but there is code after it.

  • Only administrators have permission to add, remove, or configure server software during a terminal service remote session.

    Hello
    I have been trying to install Office 2010 Pro Plus onto a Server 2003 Terminal Services server. We have an OVS license and I have followed all the procedures (and variations) noted in
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff506201.aspx . However, we still get the error message 'Only administrators have permission to add, remove, or configure server software
    during a terminal service remote session.' when users logon via an RDP session. If they logon locally, the applications start without problem. I have tried the manual and .msp setup, installed via the 'Add\Remove Programs, install using the command line with
    'Change User /install' and then 'Change User /execute'. None of this stops the message and allows the users to use Office via TS.
    Is there a step missing from the Technet site that I need to get the users working?
    Any ideas would be really appreciated.
    Thank you

    This has not fixed my issue. I still get the message "Only administrators have permission to add, remove, or configure server software during a terminal service remote session". If I add the user into the local admins group. When I login as the
    user in question or any user onto the server in question the message above appears.
    When I run Lync from the shortcut on the remote drive it works. But when I run it from the desktop and start menu it displays the above error. I spoke to Ctrix who have said that it is a permissions issue. I have checked and all permissions seem to be the
    same.
    Please can you help?
    Kind Regards, PenDraKon

  • Closing an LDAP session

    I use DBMS_LDAP.INIT(host, port) to open a session with an LDAP server.
    How does one CLOSE such a session?

    Mikhail - Database sessions are used by APEX page requests only for the duration of the show or accept page request. These usually last less than a couple of seconds, then the session becomes available to be allocated to other requests, often through the modplsql connection pooling mechanism. So if you request a page in your application (through your browser), a database session will be assigned to it, then that session will be available for someone else to use. When you submit that page or request another page to view, another database session (or possibly the one you just used) will be assigned to the request and then that association will terminate as soon as your page is shown/processed. So there is no persistent correlation between any particular database session and an APEX application and its session ID.

  • Internal LDAP Session Variable Population

    All,
    I can find plenty of documentation on how to populate a session varible from an external LDAP server. How do you populate a session variable from the internal LDAP server? I can't find documentation on this anywhere.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Josh

    Turribeach,
    In my .RPD I am trying to populate some of the system session variables, such as 'USER', 'DISPLAYNAME', 'GROUP', etc. from the out of the box, internal to Weblogic, DefaultAuthenticator, LDAP. I have found numerous blogs on how to connect to an external LDAP for authentication, at which point one can populate the system session variables from the external LDAP in an session variable initialization block. I can't find any documentation/blogs on how to use the internal LDAP to populate such system session variables. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    I did find the system function 'user()' returns the user currently logged in, so that's a bit of a temporary workaround for the 'USER' system session variable.
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • Monitoring a terminal server line session

    Hello,
    I have got around 50 C2811 terminal server bundle running to connect some RS232 manufacturing equipments.
    They are configured as suggested on Cisco site.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk801/tk36/technologies_configuration_example09186a008014f8e7.shtml
    Terminal lines have no authentication, no exec process, transport input telnet.
    I would like to monitor a terminal line session, to display characters transfered between serial port and telnet session.
    I am not sure this is possible though.
    I tried "monitor traffic line" command, as indicated on this procedure :
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2t/12_2t4/feature/guide/trash/ftasync.html
    But it seems like it requires an exec process, and terminal monitor mode does not recommand to use an exec process.
    I also tried some debug commands, or access-list logs.
    The only information I can get is the start and end time for each telnet session.
    I would like to display all the characters transmitted in these sessions.
    Is this possible ?
    How could I do ?
    Thanks
    Aldo

  • Orphaned Infoview Sessions/Licenses

    We are having problems with orphaned concurrent license sessions when users do not properly logoff of Infoview (when they simply close the window instead of logging off).  We recently migrated to a new hosting provider and the problems started after the migration.  I have checked every setting from old to new provider and they are exactly the same.  We did not experience this problem on the old provider ... only on the new provider.
    What can be causing the sessions to not timeout properly after a period of time?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Kill Orphan Essbase Session - Urgent

    Hi Gurus
    Well, we are facing an issue that if user not log off properly from Planning during data reterieval from Essbase then on next log in Planning takes too much time to log back to the Form. I think there are orphan sessions for that users which create problem. If I'm right the how can i kill those sessions as I'm trying to kill them forcefully from Eas Console but no luck. Please help.
    Thanks in Advance
    SNK

    let me know, if user no signed off properly from Planning during data fetching from essbase, did the session remain there for that user? and what will happen if user signed in again to that form?Yeah Session will be there if the user has not signed off properly, it will be automatically signed off when the user session time out limit is reached.
    Try: log into planning application by user A and user B simultaneously.
    go to Admininstration -> View Statistics, you will see two session,
    Close the explorer for User A,
    From the session of user B, you will still see the session of user A, unless you logging again and log out properly or the session times out for that user.

  • Orphaned DB session on remove() of CMP EJB?

    During a stress test of our application we encountered a strange
    situation after several days. An ApplicationServerThread was
    locked on a socketRead of the Oracle thin driver connected to
    Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris. Checking the database locks we found
    that the thread's query, a delete of one record, was blocked due
    to a lock held by another session which was in the act of
    deleting another record (using the same query) from the same
    table. However, there was no other thread in OC4J that was
    currently blocked on such a request, and consequently the lock
    is never released as there is no thread acting on that
    connection. We are guessing, for some reason, the database
    connection object was "lost" and never committed, causing the
    lock to persist forever. The entity EJB that was being removed
    is using CMP. Eventually all of the server threads enter a wait
    state waiting for a monitor to act on the same entity EJB,
    seizing the server. Killing the DB session that held the lock
    allowed the application to continue running.
    Has anyone else experienced anything of this sort before? How
    did you solve or get around it?
    The test was run on a Linux server OC4J 1.0.2.2.1, JDK 1.3.1_01,
    but we've also seen this running on Solaris.
    Any help or pointers appreciated. Thanks.

  • DSM Terminator kills BSP session on page unload

    Hi,
    I have created two BSP attached on two different page in EP 6.0.  There is a link on one of the BSP (B1) which will open the other BSP (B2) in a new window using EPCM.doNavigate.  Both BSP are in the same application class.  When closing B2, DSM is activated, destroys the BSP session and clears the instance attributes in B1.  Is there a way that I can keep the instance attributes in B1 even on the close of B2?  Would EP create a separate DSM object when opening new window?
    Thanks in advance,

    Eric,
    could you solve this? I'm having the same problem myself....

    I Got the same problem but at that time i have installed GUI of lower version. WHen i have upgraded the GUI it worked fine. Better you check once the SAPGUI configuration.

  • I need windows 7 screensaver to activate after terminating a remote desktop session

    I need windows 7 screensaver to activate after terminating a remote desktop session
    Ok, so this one is slightly complex.
    I have a monitor at work which needs to display company info via a screensaver set to scroll through a series of images. This is a pretty standard thing, but where my problem occurs is that the screensaver must be updated remotely each
    day via Remote Desktop, and not by a local user sitting at the PC itself. This works on XP with a bit of hacking and playing with settings. But it won't work on W7.
    Ok, so the XP setup first:
    When terminating the remote session, on the XP machine the system looks here:
    C:\windows\system32\config\defaultprofile\administrator’s documents\administrator’s pictures
    OR
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\ administrator’s documents\administrator’s pictures
    for the images to display during the screensaver, so I placed a shortcut to this folder (whichever one of the two it is on either of the two PCs i am doing this on; for some reason it isn't always the same path across all machines)
    on the desktop and had the user place the images in there. I also do a small registry hack so that after a timeout of 60 seconds, the screensaver looked in this location, found the images, and displayed as you'd expect. It always looks here after a remote
    session, and ignores the screensaver configured in the control panel UI, hance these stpes were necessary.
    So, now the PCs are being upgraded to W7, but this isn't working. I think it's because on W7 the desktop isn't simply being locked when a remote session is started, the entire user is being logged off. Once the session is terminated,
    the W7 PC sits at the login screen indefinitely and no screensaver ever displays.
    Does anyone know a workaround here? Sorry for the overly complex explanation, and if it doesn't make sense I'd be happy to elaborate. Thanks.

    Hi,
    Please see if the Screen saver timeout setting helps:

  • Terminating PPPoE Session in a 7206vxr Router

    Hi
    We are running a 7206vxr Router as an ISG. We have an Ethernet LAN , the clients are using a static IP assigned to their LAN Card. The clients are logging into the network using a Broadhop AAA Server ( SME ) using a Portal ( L4Redirect ). But we also want to use a PPPoE client to be used by the customers to logg in . I am attaching the output of "sh run" of the Router with this mail in which you can see the configuration which I have done for terminating the PPPoE Sessions. But somehow it is not working.
    Any suggestions is welcome.
    Abhishek

    Hi Nirmal,
    I have added a javascript function to handle the onunload event in the masthead.
    This function opens a pop up window that terminates the session.
    To terminate the session the pop up window redirects to the SAP logoff component which is:
    /irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.LogOutComponent?logout_submit=true
    The only problem with the onunload event is that it also triggers on a browser refresh so I've added a check in the child window to see whether the parent window is still open or not and based on that decided whether to fire the logoff call.
    If the parent browser is still open it's a refresh otherwise it is a close.
    Only drawback of this solution is that the user must allow pop ups on the portal URL but that should already be allowed otherwise other parts of the portal won't work properly (such as BI reports).
    Hope it helps,
    Roy
