Terrible Service with Lumia 900

With two Lumias side by side, one has full service and one has 1 bar.  Is anyone else experiencing terrible service?  I like this phone, but there are so many bugs...

same operator?
If it's a different operator it may be that one's cell tower is further away.

  • No mms with Lumia 900?!?

MMS is just the icing on the cake. I have had my Lumia 900 for about a month and just now found out you can not receive mms! I knew there was problems with group messaging and since I have had this phone i have not been getting a lot of my SMS but to just find out about mms is my final straw! My sim has been changed, phone has been reset, tech has been called and it is just the Lumia. I have had iPhones and Android and this is the first time I have ever had trouble and just wonder why a phone that can not do the simplest things that a basic flip phone can would be released and marketed as a smart phone? And why does AT&T reps, managers, customer service AND tech not know about this? It has floored them all! Nice update Windows and Lumia! Not going to even come close to Apple or Android with products and service like this.

    Hi TXphonegirl,
Thanks for your post and welcome to the forum.
Windows phone needs settings for MMS to be present on the SIM when the phone is first started to be able to automatically setup MMS. Otherwise you will need an app Called 'Network Setup'. This app is currently not available for the North American market but an updated version is expected to become available in week 30. When it becomes available you will find the app in the Nokia Collection on Marketplace.
Once installed you can choose your carrier form a dropdown menu for automatic setup or use manual mode to do so yourself. In that case the setting can usually be found on the carriers website. You can find more information in this post.
    Hope this helps,

  • Trouble with Lumia 900 navigation button not worki...

    Hei guys,
This afternoon, all of a sudden, without nothing happened, my 3 navigation buttons (back, start and search) on my nokia lumia 900 stopped working. I really can't understand what happened since 2 minutes before the buttons were working perfectly and then the sensibility of the button is completely zero.
Tried to turn off the phone several times, but it didn't worked at all. Searched around the web but noone seems having the same problem. I found only one guy that posted a similar problem like mine but recieved only an answer that didn't look really helpful (turn off the phone for 3 days and see later).
All the rest of the touch screen still works perfectly,  it's just the three navigation button that don't work, even tapping all the time. there's no sign of response from the phone.
I really have no idea what's happened. Did someone had a similar, if not the same problem? any suggestion how to fix it?
    please help guys
    Thanks.

I know this is a month old but all of  a sudden this morning I begane having the exact same problem.
My troubleshooting tasks so far have been to reboot the phone about 3 times.
I have hard reset my phone with just holding the power button down (not sliding the screen when asked to). Connected it to my computer to make sure it was updated.
Deleted all new text messages (there was a bug a while back that can cause Windows 7 to lock up on certain formatted text messages. Then rebooted the phone again
Deleted all new email messages from my google account on the phone. Rebooted the phone.
And still I do not have any of my bottom buttons usable.  Has anyone figurec this out yet?  Every time I do something I have reboot the phone since I cannot back up or get to the home screen.

  • Programs that would work with Lumia 900 and an older Mac model (Mac HD)

Hi so like the title im trying to sync my lumia 900 with my very old Mac (Mac HD not lion etc..). Any ideas where I could buy/get the software?

Mac OS 8.6 won't run on a MacBook Pro.   If you are trying to sync with a Mac OS 8.6 machine, such software is really hard to find.  Try http://www.apple.com/usergroups/ to find if someone still has software for those machines in your neighborhood.

  • CK-7W with Lumia 900

    Hi,
I have a CK-7W with a 6120 cradle in my car, but now I own a Lumia 900, so is it possible to:
Get a Lumia 900 cradle and leads (Power and antenna) for the CK-7W as a package?
    Or make the leads myself?
    Regards.

    Hi,
Thank you for post and welcome to the forums.
There currently isn't an official Nokia produce cradle which will fit the Lumia 900 but as an alternative have a look at the link below:
    http://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=512380&pn=prod&brand=Nokia&model=Lumia%20900
This should do what you need as it is an active charging cradle  and should be a case of removing the currently cradle of the bracket (if you are using one) and replacing it with this one. You can use the Bluetooth connect the car kit with the device, so in effect you will have a hands free kit for your Lumia 900 that will also charge.
    Hope this helps.

  • No Service with Lumia 920

    Hi,
I've bought a separate unlocked Lumia 920, and using it with T-Mobile NL. I've only been roaming in other countries (Bosnia at the moment). It used to work fine, but since the last 3 days I get 'no service', after seeing the local provider shortly connected (Everywhere in the country so far), I get a 'No Service' icon.
The connectivity icon consists of several dimmed bars with a 'stop' sign in the middle.
I can manually search for network providers, but can't seem to connect to any of them.
The software is updated to the latest version available AFAIK.
I've tried soft resets, all possible different roaming settings (on/off/2g/3g/4g)
Any idea what might be going on?

  • Can't sync my Macbook with my new Nokia Lumia 900.

I spent two hours with a couple of the tech folks at the AT&T store yesterday, trying to get my new Nokia Lumia 900 to sync to my Macbook... but with no luck. No matter what we did, I kept getting a message that the server was not secure, and so the calendar and address book wouldn't sync. Other things probably as well, though these two were my primary concerns. And, yes, we had downloaded the Windows Phone 7 Connector. It didn't seem to matter. Any suggestions, other than taking the phone back and getting another iPhone for a couple hundred more than I paid for the Lumia?

Take it back and buy an iPhone...
Sorry had to say it -

  • Wired Headset for Lumia 900 with 3.5mm Jack

    Hi
Would there be any recommendations for a Wired Headset with a 3.5Mm jack for headphones for a Nokia Lumia 900. I have tried the Nokia AD-54, you can hear the sound but sound quality is poor. I attached Bluetooth headsets BH-610 and BH-214, both reproduce excellent sound quality. But am looking for a wired option.  The Monster options from purity range dont have 3.5mm Jack

  • I am very frustrated with my Lumia 900 camera...

With my first generation Samsung Focus, taking quality photos was pretty much a point and shoot operation.  Now, with my Lumia 900, it is a struggle to get things in focus and the lighting correct.  Not to mention dealing with the blue/purple tint that shows up in the middle of some of the photos.  I now dread using the camera...
Is it because I don't know what camera settings to use under certain conditions, or does the camera need a software update by Nokia?
    -Paul
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There has been a recent update regardind screen tint for the 900 so maybe that could help. Also for settings in the Camera app, some Lumia 800's came out of the box with default settings set to Macro, which led people to believe the camera was poor, so check your settings and once set to Scenes = Auto and Focus Mode = Normal , save settings, if not they revert to default. Also when taking macro photos, set Both scene and focus to Macro before trying to take photo, and I have found focusing for macro works better using touch and hold on the focal point works much better than using the camera key ! You can get very good shots from the Lumia, just try messing with your settings a few times to see what works best for you. Find half an hour and try taking the same shot with different settings and you could try Auto Fix All on a photo you've taken from the menu ... when viewing photo in gallery.
    Good Luck

  • Nokia Lumia 900 Data Counter and People Tile

Is there a data counter on the Lumia 900 that I can't find? I've tried to call the 3282 data number, and it always tells me I'm at 0 even though I know i've been on the data network and not wifi.
Also, can someone explain to me how much data something like the people tile/email account setup uses? I've never understood apps like that coming from suuper old phones. Is it constantly checking your email/facebook? On some time interval? I'd really like to set up facebook and such with the people tile because it seems really nifty, but I don't want to go over my 2gb plan. I just don't terribly understand how it all works, and i'd be willing to try it out if I could see how much data i'm using..but that goes back to my first question...In the past when checking email/facebook I'd always just use the internet browser on my old Nokia e71x, and it wasn't giving me updates in real time like I know this guy is capable of. I'd like to use it, I just don't wanna eat up my data plan. Thanks for any wise words!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The email setting can remain always-on and email arrives instantly like a Blackberry if you set the synchronization settings to "as items arrive" for the email setup.  There will also be a very small data usage checking for changes on various Windows Live services such as Calendar for changes so it can sync the data to the phone, or vice versa.
The People Hub tile uses existing picture thumbnails already stored on the phone from your contacts profile pictures and Twitter and the first profile picture it finds on your friends profile pictures on Facebook.  Once the thumbnails are on the phone it doesnt use any more data.
It doesnt use any data to check for Facebook or Twitter until you go into the People Hub and swipe the screen into the "Whats New" section then it displays new Twitter and Facebook posts which have happened since you last checked it.  Although if you have set Twitter and Facebook to email you when you receive a mention or interaction and you have your email set to receive messages instantly then you will have realtime alerts for those important things.
When you swipe to the "All" section of the People Hub and click on your picture it then gives you the option to post a message to Twitter / Facebook or Windows Live all at the same time, or selecting each checkbox for individual social networks if you only want to post a message to one or two not all.  In this section you can also Check-In which places a Bing Maps location of the place you are using the GPS system.  The Messaging system is persistent always-on and displays any contacts that are online on your Facebook chat and Windows Live Messenger if you have set it up, which when you receive a message is text only so uses very little data.

  • Already Converted 10 of my family members over to AT&T for Nokia Lumia 900!!!

    Verizon,
You decided to drag you feet, promote the crap out of Android and stop supporting Windows Phone 7.
So I converted 10 of my family members over yesterday to AT&T for the Nokia Lumia 900.
I got them $100 credit towards the Nokia Lumia 900 which AT&T was charging $99 dollars for the phone on Pre-Order.
So my family members only had to pay $36 for the activation fee.
Verizon, you had your chance.  You had multiple chances.  If you truly wanted an LTE Windows Phone 7 from Microsoft, you could have easily worked something out with them, just like AT&T did.
All the information has been leaked out, Apollo/Windows Phone 8 was supposed to have LTE but because AT&T showed that they really were interested in Windows Phone 7 and actually carring a lineup of Windows Phone 7, Microsoft worked it out for them.
So you can take all your Droid crap that you have heavily invested in, along with all your iPhone 4s that keep hogging all the bandwidth on your network and stick it were the sun don't shine.
I promise you this, when my contract is done I will be terminating my account in FULL and switching over to AT&T as well.
To not even stand behind a product that we all have signed 2 year contracts with is unacceptable for the price were paying.  To hold back all updates besides Mango is unacceptable just to lock in new 2 year contracts.  And I'm talking about Droid too.
Carriers should not be in controll of phone updates PERIOD!!!  Updates should be released from the OS Manufactures just like on computers.  This business model that the industry has created is a SCAM, JOKE and an INSULT to everyone that puts there hard earned money up for phone service.
Verizon, you have lost all respect in my book, and I will do everything possible to get everyone and everybody I talk to away from your network.
Only way to solve this issue is to address the Windows Phone 7 community and actually annouce something, PERIOD!!!  Release the 8107 update as a good faith measure and issue a press release stating your business model regarding Windows Phone 7... Unless you want more dollars going to AT&T.
Also, latest news shows that Android only made $22million in revenues last year, and spend $20 billion acquiring Motorola.  So I don't see Andriod being able to do much in the year 2012 to ramp things up to compete against Windows Phone 7/Nokia and Apple.
Do Something, NOW!!! CAN YOU HEAR US NOW!!!
Also, here's another suggestion... Do like AT&T has done and give users a early termination fee to get out of there contracts.  I believe they charge $35 dollars or something higher if your not satisified and want to terminate your contract early.
Since you don't want to support or offer any more Windows Phone 7, why keep us as unhappy customers.  Give us an option to pay a early termination fee and leave!!!

What news are you reading? Android is not a company but a phone operating system. GOOGLE acquired Motorola, not Android. GOOGLE's 2011 revenues were 37.9 billion, NOT 22 million. Google acquired Motorola for 12.5 billion, NOT 20 billion.

Again, where are you getting this information? The AT&T ETF is $325 less $10 for each month of your contract which has been completed. It is NOT $35. Verizon has a similar, although slightly higher ETF of $350 less $10 for each month of your contract which has been completed.
Yes, we can hear you, but you are not making any sense!

  • Lumia 900 Various Issues

I recently purchased a white Lumia 900 this past weekend, and just wanted to go over some concerns/issues I've had with it thus far.  I was thinking about doing a return/replace with At&t, but it seems that the issues may vary.  I'm hoping many of these can be resolved with a software update.  Just FYI, I already ran the update that was released on 4/16 and have also reset the phone a few times since then.
    Display:
    1.  The display has a purple hue (most noticeable on gray backgrounds) when set to low brightness.  This is mostly an annoynace since my wife has the same phone and hers does not exhibit this behavior.  I'm hoping this is not a hardware issue as it displays fine above the low brightness setting.  Below is at least one thread of people having the same issue.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599308
    2.  Screen response is slow.  It seems that that there is a delay between where my finger is and how the screen tracks my movements.  I'm hoping that can be adjusted to be similar to how the Lumia 800 responds as per this video.  The tracking starts at 3:45.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KBDZrqVW-8
    3.  Home screen scrolling is slower than other Windows Phones.  On my previous Dell Venue Pro, I could scroll through the home screen much faster.  From reading about the web, it seems that the Lumia 900 is set at a much slower pace, or that the inertia scrolling just isn't set.  I'm hoping that can either be changed or allow us to change the scroll speed.  The combination of the larger screen, the slower screen response, and the slower scrolling just makes the phone feel slower than it should be.
    http://forums.wpcentral.com/lumia-900-ace/190309.htm
    Sound/Notifications:
    1.  There is a large volume discrepancy between the speaker and the headphone jack.  I try to keep the volume at one setting (around 18) because that is most comfortable for me when listening with headphones, but switching back to the speaker, and it is just clearly too loud at that setting.  I'm hoping this can be changed with an update.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615986
    2.  Changing the volume while the screen is off is very inconsistent.  I have to press the volume rocker buttons several times before it makes the incremental change.  It seems others were having issues with the volume rocker not working at all prior to the 4/16 update, so I'm hoping this can be fixed further.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1607937
    3.  Vibrate function seems to be making a rattling noise.  This one definitely seems to be a hardware issue, though what I have seems to be 'normal' for a Lumia 900.  It's not as bad as others I've seen on the web, where it would be extremely loud, but it is annoying nonetheless.  I'm just hoping a hardware fix can be put in place for the future.  It sounds similar to that of the Lumia 900 at the end of this video.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KBDZrqVW-8
    Camera:
    1.  The camera has issues with white balance and focus.  This is definitely a software issue, since 3rd party camera software are able to take great pictures just fine, such as SophieCam.  I'm hoping this can be addressed soon.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605444
Despite these issues, I really do like the phone.  I hope many of these issues can be addressed soon via software updates.  We broke contract with our previous carrier to obtain these phones, and would really like to keep them, but not at their current state with these various issues.  I'm hoping Nokia will see these issues and provide quick and helpful support for them.

OK, so I've calmed down a bit and now realize some detailed explanation of the issue could help to identify it more than ranting.  So, here are the usage conditions and symptoms I noticed when I got into this battry drain, laggy, warm phone situation.
    1st time:
Where:  At work which is outside of Phoenix in a spotty reception area.  I had maybe 1-2bars of 4G showing
What: Drove to work using bluetooth audio all the way. When I got to work I was trying to download an App, but the download failed.  I tried again, and the download started, then just froze at 15%.  I cancelled the download and tried again.  It started to download and froze again at 15%.  I attributed this to the weak coverage (but since then I've been able to complete a download from the same location with the same service)
Then the battery seemed to drain as fast as I could charge it...literally.  I had the phone plugged into a USB charger and the state of charge barely changed after hours of charging.  I never thought to re-start.  I got home and my battery was basically dead after bluetooth audio all the way home (almost 1 hr).  I finally restarted and had no more issues.  Didn't really think anything of it...just thought my new phone had a **bleep** battery life
    2nd time (following day):
Where: At home with strong LTE coverage in Tempe
What:  Woke up, paired up with my portable bluetooth stereo at home.  Let the music play while I hung out in the pool for a few hours.  I was simultaneously taking pictures throughout the afternoon.  Battery charge quickly fell to about 25%.  I started to notice that when I would zoom into the pictures I had just taken, it would take about 15sec for the resolution to re-sharpen after zooming in.  About 20min later my battery critically low warning came on.  So, I plugged into my wall charger.  Can't remember at what point I re-started.
That was Saturday.  I had no issues and great battery life on Sunday.  No bluetooth audio usage.  Used Nokia Drive, the phone, internet, and various apps, but no BTA.
    3rd time:
Where:  Driving from Tempe to work, passing in and out of coverage along the way
What: Streamed Bluetooth audio the entire drive with a few phone calls mixed in.  Got to work and the phone was warm, but I assumed this was normal after an hour of usage.  Got into work and noticed it being laggy in general.  Turned off data and BT  Gave it a few minutes to recover and for the phone to cool off with no usage.  Phone didn't cool off and remained laggy, so I figured something was up.  I re-started, all issues disappeared, and phone cooled off.  It has been fine since.

  • 3G+ Video Calls on a Lumia 900

    Hello!
I've posted this once in another thread, but I don't seem to have noticed, so I'm opening a new thread for it. .
With a recent price-drop (thanks to WP8), I bought a Lumia 900 for my girlfriend. She really wants video calling, and while, my phone is capable of it, it doesn't have the comfort of skype, so we have no choice but to use 3G+ video calling through the operator, which should be fine with my subscription, except, her Lumia doesn't seem to work with this variety of video calling. .
I can use my phone to video call other phones, but not a Windows Phone. Our operator's Customer Service agents aren't exactly familiar with Windows Phone, so they seem clueless. I can't resort to Skype-to-operator type of calling, because then I'd have to pay for Skype Credits AND her 3G. .
In a nutshell, I need help with video calling without using Skype or Tango. . Help?
    Model: Nokia Lumia 900
    OS Version: WP 7.5
Issue: 3G+ Video Calls (without using Skype/Tango/etc)
I can't imagine me being the only one who has an issue with this, so if there's any solution out there, please help. .
    SIlver

Video calling as per symbian phones is not possible with wp devices. Video calling on windowsphones is by using skype or other 3rd video calling apps. This is a Microsoft constraint. If you wish to request a feature, you should direct it to microsoft on the windowsphone.uservoice.com site. But i wouldnt get my hopes up. Microsoft are working at deeply integrating skype into the os.

  • Lumia 900 MMS APN

    Hello,
I am trying to help someone that is using a Lumia 900. They are not able to send or receive MMS messages. They are on an MVNO that operates on the ATT network. There is no place to add an MMS APN in the phone. I know that there are applications that people say will work. I would prefer to add the APN manually. I found posts that say that I can do the following.
    Go to the phone app
    Dial ##634# and click Send
When prompted for a password type 277634#*#
You should now be at "Factory Menu"
    Choose "Engineer Menu"
    Choose "Other Setting"
Verify that "Set ADC" is set to Enable
From the "Other Setting" page, choose "Set network profile"
You should now be on the "Set network profile" page and in the bottom half of the window you should see a list of *.xml files.  These appear to be the network configuration files.
    Choose "_PROV_ATT_US_310_410.xml"
Can anyone confirm that this method works? Does it change any settings other than the APNs?
Can someone post a copy of the xml text so that I can see if before making the change?
    Thanks!

Settings > accesspoint should have the option to add the MMS access point. Provided the phone is at WP 7.8
Actually the last available accesspoint version should set this automatically without the need for tinkering with an inherently dangerous option such as the service menu which really is not intended for 'personal use'. If you choose to go that way you're basically on your own.
