Tesco unlocked N8 = No Vodafone APN's. Who's at Fa...

Hi,
I have a really annoying N8 issue that Vodafone have just wiped their hands of after 4 hours of phone calls thins moring.  I spoke to over 10 people and several members of the techinical team, all of which were polite and thorough (if  - but as it turns out, completely incapable of resolving this issue.
I bought a new N8 from Tesco about a month ago - I paid Tesco £20 and recieved my unlock code, which worked 1st time and did indeed unlock the handset to all networks.  Since then I have mainly used the N8 on the O2 network with no problems at all.
The issue is that today I have changed over to Vodafone and the phone will no longer allow manual input of APN's - popping up the message 'SIM Card Error' everytime I try to enter the Vodafone APN's by hand, and Vodafone have tried to send me the OTA settings some 20+ times and not one message was eve recieved.  Also - OTA APN settings for the N8 don't exist on Vodafone as they 'have issues' with the N8.  So they tried sending me the N97 settings which would work fine - but they simply don't get recieved by the handset.
The signal is strong, I can make and receive calls and texts - everything is fine, other that the data connection, which I have none!  I have factory reset the phone twice, (done volume down, camera, menu & power & *#7370# ) But I still have no access to add an APN manually and the phone will not receive any OTA APN settings. (Other texts from Vodafone do get through - like the welcome text).
If I remove the Voda SIM and put in in any other 3G handset which already has the Vodafone APN's present, the data connections work 100% - which is why Vodafone blame the fault on the handset. But if I put any other SIM card (o2, GiffGaff, Orange, 3) into the N8, I can manually enter APN's - which is why I think that that Vodafone have an issue.  It's just the Vodafone SIM which screws up the N8, both myself & Vodafone cannot now see anyway at all to get the data connection working on this Tesco unlocked N8.
Does anyone here have any suggestions at all?
In my judgement, there is nothing 'wrong' with the phone physically and I do not think that swapping the unit will make a blind bit of difference, I am also reluctant to send the unit away to Nokia.  All I know is that I have a new, officially unlocked Nokia N8 that cannot be made compatible with the Vodafone data network. Not to happy about this as my number is being ported over to Vodafone tomorrow too, and I rely on getting emails on the go.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply - Yes I have 'restored to factory settings' twice now in an attempt to resolve this issue - I gave up caring about my data, I made a back up on Ovi suite before I restored everything.
I'm in alignment with you over the potential issue witht the existing Tesco Firmware - but I have no way of provong this and it would appear that the networks don't want to touch this issue.  Having spent 4 hours trying to explain to various Voda-chimps what the issue actually was / could be - I am filled with dread at the prospect of having to now deal with another half day contacting Tesco technical department only for them to say - 'Dunno, send it to Nokia' then hang up!
Not being able to flash the product codes on the N8 yet is a real shame.  Still, this must effect all Unlocked N8's from Tesco, that Vodafone contract users are trying to use?

Can anyone help me, I have an unlock code off vodafone to change networks. And I'm stuck in what to do now I have the code. If anyone can help it will be much appreciated. Thanks Kelly.

Unlock 'codes' are not provided for unlocking iPhones. Whatever they have given you is useless.
Once Vodafone have confirmed your iPhone is unlocked, you connect it to iTunes on your computer for the actual unlocking to take place. iTunes will show a Congratulations message on screen when the unlock is done.
    No codes are required.

  • HT201274 My Brother gifted me  a  att&t contract completed iphone 4s and we sent a unlock request to att&t. att had sent back a unlock confirmation. and i followed the step for unlocking with a vodafone sim in india. i followed the below step as instructe

My brother got me a contract completed iphone 4S from US and when i put my vodafone sim into it . i got a sim invalid error. So got in touch with ATT and got it unlocked. I followed the steps given by ATT for activating my sim . i backed up the data and erased all content and settings and then inserted my vodafone sim into it But it shows "invalid Sim". Im stuck in setup screen and not able to restore as itunes also shows the same error "invalid sim" . Im not getting the summary screen in itunes .Pls help how i could restore back to atleast the previous condition.

Completing a contract does not magically unlock the device.
Put the device in DFU mode (google it) and restore as new again.  If it still will not unlock, send it back to your brother to sell to someone in the US that can use it on AT&T or take to Apple for evaluation.

  • Unlock iPhone 4S (Vodafone PT)

    Hello All!
I have an issue with Unlocking my iPhone 4S.
I bought my Phone in Portugal at MediaMarkt Store and it was locked to Vodafone Portugal Mobile Operator.
At the moment I´m living in Canada and i bought the Mini Sim Card from Rogers Mobile Operator.
When I insert the Rogers Mini Sim Card to my Phone I get the message "Sim Not Valid" probably because my Phone is locked to Vodafone.
I requested the Unlock from Vodafone and they asked me about the Copy of Invoice with IMEI Number on it from MediaMarkt.
But on my Invoce I doesn't have IMEI Number included, so I asked MediaMarkt to create another Invoice but with the IMEI on it, I get "NO" for the answer.
Right now I have no  solution for this situation.
MediaMarkt can't create the Second Invoice and Vodafone dont want to do nothing without an Invoice with IMEI Number included on it.
Maybe there is an possibility to do the Unlock of my iPhone directly trough the Apple Support somehow?
    Waiting for the answer.
    Thank you in advance!
    Best Regards!

Nope. Apple does not unlock phones... ONLY the Carrier it is locked to can assist you.

  • HT201328 Hi there, I just got the iPhone 5 from Optus with 24 months contact now I tried to unlock to use Vodafone SIM card but I can''t unlock pls can can tell is any other way to do. Thanks

Hi there, I would like to know how to unlock Optus  iPhone 5. I got an iPhone 5 from Optus new phone is only 2 months old and the phone is on 24 months contact . Now I tried to unlock but I can't unlock if I can unlock my phone so I can use in oversee next week. Can you please help me and tell me what to do to unlock to use other SIM card that's is not Optus only. Thanks

Only the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Why do you think they would do so before you complete the terms of your contract? I don't know specifically what their policy is, but most carriers won't do so unless they are legally required to.
If you didn't want to use Optus, why did you sign a contract with them?

  • Once I receive my Network Access Code(N.A.C.) for iphone 5 what are the next steps I follow to unlock my phone from vodafone to use on another network???

Once I recieve my Network Access Code(NAC) for my iPhone 5, what are the next steps I follow to unlock it from vodafone to use on another network???
I have my other nano sim ready and waiting to port my number to it, but im just waiting on vodafone to email me the NAC code, which i checked up that I was eligible for!!!

Ok many thanks for telling me this BUT 1 last thing, once vodafone get back to me then is it just a matter of plugging my iphone into itunes and letting it sync? Like will a message be displayed or anything on screen letting me know or confirming that the phone has been unlocked...???

  • Do vodafone lie about N70 unlock codes?

Hi every one, long time reader-first time poster! I recently bought myself a nearly new N70 from ebay locked to vodafone uk. Got myself a cheap vodafone pay as you go sim, registered it with the network and paid my £20 top up fee to get the unlock codes. Great, couldn't have been easier, be with you in 10 days they said....2 weeks later on contacting them, "oh, your phones not on our database, so we have to apply to Nokia for the unlock codes" it could be as much as a month they said!
Now six weeks later, ring again and get the same story "oh, we've emailed nokia, its up to them now to send the info through".
Do vodafone just plain lie about these things?, do nokia ever have anything at all to do with unlock codes?
just a couple of questions I'd love to have answered.
    regards everyone

So its a catagorical, undisputable cast iron fact that Nokia have nothing what so ever to do with unlock codes and vodafone would have no reason at all to contact nokia for codes?????

  • Tesco Mobile iPhones continually lose data settings - how to fix.

Many, many people are affected by this problem which only seems to affect handsets on Tesco Mobile in the UK.
These handsets are O2, but rebranded as Tesco and use a different APN to connect to the internet.
The symptoms are, when you are trying to use the internet on the phone, you will get a popup "Could not activate cellular data network".
When you check the settings on the phone, you will see that the APN has changed from "Prepay...", which is the Tesco Mobile APN to "idata...", which is O2.
To get internet back on the phone again you have to enter the Tesco Mobile APN details. Depending on how often you go in and out of Wifi hotspots, you might need to do this several times a day.
Thankfully, there is a very simple way to fix this problem and prevent the phone from going back to O2 settings:
1: Visit the unlockit.co.nz page on the phone (when connected to your home wifi)
2: Select "contine", then "Custom APN"
3: Press the "Carier" drop down menu and scroll all the way down to UK - TESCO, then press "Done"
    4: Press "Create Profile"
    5. Press "Install" and yes to all the questions.
After it's finished you will have an APN app installed, just move that out of the way. (I keep all the apps I don't use but can't delete for whatever reason on the last page of my apps)
Now when it loses the cellular data network, which happens frequently for a couple of seconds when you leave a wifi hotspot or change to a different cell no matter what network you're on, it defaults to the correct settings.
The reason this happens is that for some reason the iPhone will default to the "hard" APN settings before trying to use any user-entered settings. If it gets a connection on the "hard" settings, even if it's one you're not authorised to use, it doesn't bother trying your user-entered settings.
On a Tesco iPhone, the "hard" settings are set to O2, because Tesco buy the phones from O2 then ask the user to enter the internet settings themselves. Replacing the "hard" settings with a custom APN from unlockit seems to do the trick.

    Hi
I have Iphne 4s/5.0.1 and I'm also stuck with same problem from last 5 days. I have restored/backup/updated the phone as many times as possible. I have been with Vodafone Customer Care (India) and now everyone knows my problem there, but there is no solution.
I have read and tried most of the solutions provided here. Please help me out.
    Problem -
    1. 3G / Edge working when restore as new phone
    2. 3G / Edge stops working as soon as backup is restored
    3. Copied and verified both of the files (8218978e4ab0a48035bb92653145a6be872ea858 (Restored new iphone & Restored backup iphone) have different settings. Replacing part of this file or even complete text of this file, changes the date/time stamp of file and on backup restoration it says "Corrupt backup" and phone restarts.
    4. I dont want to Jailbreak the phone
    5. Using any third party software to install new APN says "Only One APN can be installed"
    6. Profile doesnt show any other APN
Is there any other way to delete this file (com.apple.managedCarrier.plist) or just change the section where in string value is "Portalnmms" to required value "iphone" along with key?
    Please help me out.
    thanks

  • NUC code for ipad air on Vodafone

I bought my Daughter a second hand Ipad air today from cash convertors.
It came with all the original accessories and a box etc.
Unfortunately its locked to Vodafone. I am not now nor have I ever been a Vodafone customer.
While I was in the cash convertor shop, I rang Vodafone and explained that I have a pay monthly Tesco sim that I wanted to use in the ipad air. I explained how it was locked to Vodafone and I was told not to worry, that once I had bought the ipad I should ring them back with the imei number and they would unlock it for me free of charge.
Feeling happy, I went ahead and bought the Ipad, took it home and rang Vodafone. I couldn't get through so I tried the online chat. I was repeatedly told to fill in an NUC form online. I told them dozens of times that I couldn't as I am not a customer so I am unable to enter the phone number the form wants (or it wont let you submit the form).
So I was told to buy a Vodafone sim pack and put £20 on it. Then they said they would take £19.99 from the sim and send me an unlock code!!! Why should I pay them?
I told them again that im not now nor have I ever been a customer and they still say I have to pay to unlock the ipad.
Now I thought that they would just do it for free as that was what I was told on the phone.
I gave up with online and tried phoning again. This time I got through and after explaining again, I was told that Vodafone cannot unlock it, Apple have to do it!
Once again I explained how I had been told just 1 hour earlier that Vodafone would unlock it for me for free and I was basically called a liar.
So, what do I do now? Apple say Vodafone should unlock it and Vodafone say Apple should do it!
Does anyone know how to unlock it with out either of them passing round and round in circles?

Do you want me to make something up that will make you happier.
There is no "code" to unlock an iDevice. You are correct that the cell carrier sends an unlock request to Apple, Apple contacts the cell carrier when he activation database has been updated, they notify the customer. After that the customer connect their device to their computer and in iTunes they restore it as a new device. They then get a message, "Congratulations, your iPad is now unlocked".
Not many iPads are locked, the only ones I've heard of are subsidized models from Vodaphone and EE. Apple is not passing any buck in your situation, the entire thing revolves around Vodaphone. The person who originally spoke with you should have told you their rules for unlocking the iPad and failed to do so. You could call Vodaphone and see if they have a customer service department and if they will do anything at all to help you. Apple will not change their policy so you would be wasting your time contacting them. You could also just use it as a WiFi only iPad.

  • Unlocking iphone officially

    Hi,
I recently purchased iphone 3gs from one of my friend who is on vodafone network. But now i want it to unlock the phone as iam going to india and no way iam going to use it in UK. But Vodafone is not ready to unlock it and even my friend is not accepting for returning it. I dont want to jail break it as it may create further problems in future.
Can any one please help me, how to unlock the phone officially? I dont want to mess up my phone with any thing. For your information, my phone is in latest firmware upgraded.
    thanks,
    murali

But i have another iphone with orange network where i requested for unlocking and they said, they have registered my phone and they will unlock within a week for 20quids. So, its possible to unlock officially.
O2 and Orange will unlock iPhones. Vodafone and Tesco won't.

  • I worked for a company that closed down and inherited an ipad 2 linked to Vodafone uk as the carrier but no account details. So I factory reset, downloaded the ios7and added EE sim and Ipad does not work. what can I do? Voda/EE/Apple say NO SOLUTION?

I inherited an Ipad 2 from a company that I had worked for in the UK but had closed down.
It was an IPAD2 locked to the Vodafone UK network by a Vodafone SIM Card.
No account details were or are available for the original account.
So I removed the Vodafone SIM Card and then factory reset wirelessly using my wireless at home.
I updated the system to IOS 7.0.2.
I was then sold under a contract from EE another UK carrier a SIM card for the Ipad and when inserted the Ipad says Sim not applicable.
I checked with Vodafone and EE shop and they said they cant unlock it, I checked with Apple who said the same!
So I have an IPad I can use wirelessly at home, a sim card from EE which is an u
locked Vodafone carrier mode and all 3 multinational companies say they cannot unlock it from Vodafone to enable me to use the EE sim.
What can I do to sort this mess out? Please help!
    Thank You

Steve, have you tried just going through the unlock form here?
    http://www.vodafone.co.uk/vodafone-uk/forms/unlock-code-request/
That's what the moderator in several older threads in Vodaphone's forum said was all that is necessary. Carriers often won't unlock for anyone but the original account holder, so if you don't have the details of the company's account, that might be the barrier in which case there will not be any way to get the iPad officially unlocked.
    Good luck.

  • Only one unlock attempt left - help

I have a BB 8900 which is locked to Orange in the UK and wish to change to Vodafone with whom I have  an Internet access account.   I do not have an account with Orange and therefore no Orange SIM card.
I have obtained one unlock number from a provider and that did not work.  I went to another one who gave me four numbers to try, including the one I already had and none of them worked.
I have carefully checked the IMEI number and it is correct.
I now have only one attempt left and as I understand it, once that is used up, there are no further chances.    If I get a new Orange SIM card will that restore the number of attempts to 10?.
What can I do please.  Any ideas would be welcome.
Since my original posting I have done a factory reset using KB 18998 on the BB Technical Solution Centre, which entails connecting the Blackberry to the computer and using Command Prompt.  The factory reset was carried out ok , but the number of attempts remains as one unfortunately. Is there any way in which the number of attempts can be restored to 10 please.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Managed to get it unlocked. A highly specialised procedure which had to be done very carefully because there was only one attempt left and there was no way back.  Highly recommended and helpful unlocker.
www.unlockdata.co.uk who also trade under TeleGo Ltd  (a UK based company)
The problem with the unlock codes I had been provided with did not work with the 2010 Security and MEP-07723-007 should have been used instead of MEP- 07723-003.  (don't ask I don't know what it means).
    One highly relieved guy.
