Tesla Nvidia Supercomputing graphics card on MacPro

Does anyone know if there are any plans for MacPro to support the Tesla GPUs.
The possibilities... Oh the possibilities!!

There are lots of cards that Apple doesn't support. The terms of use on these forums is "technical" questions. Short: no EFI firmware.
When Microsoft Vista 64-bit moves to EFI 2.0 there might be more options. Right now, what you see is what you get.
Why not the Radeon X1950 or X2900?
Or FX4600 and others? Nvidia wants to see more offloading of work done on CPU would be more efficient if it was done and stayed on the GPU for Final Cut and other programs.
NDAs are just that, do not discuss, Non-Disclosures. Any engineer or working prototypes out there are just that. Putting up a banner was enough to get shot down.
Rumors and there are sites that trade in such currency.

I have a late 2009 iMac, with the default Nvidia 9400 Graphics card.
I was wondering what my options are for upgrading.  I use Windows 7 via Bootcamp, so I need a card that is compatible/has available drivers.
This is for gaming. On the lowest settings of "Call of Duty 4", I get about 100 FPS... Was hoping to be able to play on higher resolution w/o the fps lag.
I'm not good with the hardware part of computers at all, but know how to get around the OS.

In most cases the graphics cards in iMacs are Not upgradeable.  They are usually soldered to the logic board.  RAM is considered, along with harddrives, the only component that is upgradeable in an iMac, unlike in PC's.  So basically you would need to sell your unit and purchase an iMac with a more powerful graphics card.
    Hope this helps

  • Does the fan on Macbooks with Nvidia Geforce graphic cards run less often?

I have a Macbook Core Du0 1.83ghz running 10.6.3. Each time I watch a video on youtube or watching Flash or other multimedia animations, my fan run super fast.
Is it the same with the new Macbook with the Nvidia Geforce graphic card?
Does the fan on Macbooks with Nvidia Geforce graphic cards run less often?

Watching videos taxes the GPU and CPU. That's why the fan runs faster - to cool the computer. When you aren't doing much the fan slows down. This is true of all the laptops regardless of which GPU is involved.
Since you have the first generation MB model, it runs hotter than later models that incorporated some changes to the cooling system making the fan run faster during idle. You can accomplish a similar result using the third-party fan control software, SMCFanControl - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. It can be used to increase the fan's idle speed to 2000 RPM. This won't make the fan run any slower when the computer heats up.

  • Satellite P100: Why the Nvidia 7900 graphic card is not available in UK?

Why is the nvidia 7900 gpu not available in the p100 in UK? In mainland Europe & Middle East the 7900gs is available. The 7900 gtx in the states is available.
    Why?

    Hi
I dont believe that its not possible to buy a P100 with the Nvidia 7900 graphic card in UK. If you cannot purchase it form the notebook dealer in your city so I would say check the notebook online shops.
I have investigated a little bi and found these P100 units with the nVidia 7900 graphic card.
    Satellite P100-426; P100-194; P100-191; P100-196; P100-215; P100-222
I have found three different graphic cards which were delivered with the P100:
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900; GeForce Go 7600 and Intel 945GM Express
Anyway, the P100 is a new notebook and possibly you cannot buy it in every shop but in my opinion in several times this unit should be available in the UK with the GeForce Go 7900

  • Best graphics card for MacPro 5,1- 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon OS 10.6.8

    Hi everyone.
I have a 2011 MacPro 5,1- 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. 32GB RAM OS 10.6.8 with the stock ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card.
When I output/process/convert video through Quicktime or iMovie or Adobe Premiere or VisualHub (not always, but usually WS multi-pass H264, best quality), it seems to take forever.
Currently (as I type this) outputting a 2 hour movie made of 14 clips of 852x480 30fps 44KHz movies to a 29.97 multi-pass H264 48KHz file with Adobe Premiere CS 5.5.2- is coming up on 10 hours.
I would like to upgrade to a better graphics card with better VRAM and processing power. I realize that being on OS 10.6.8 may create a few problems. I'm willing to upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 if need be. Though I'd hate to lose the carbon programs that I still use (like VisualHub).
I've heard that nVidia is the way to go, but I'm not sure which card to get. The Quadro FX 4800 looks promising (and expensive).
    Anyone have any insight?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Dual or triple boot until you are sure if Lion or ML works.
GTX 570 2.5GB VRAM $320 from MacVidCards is one way to go, even GTX 680 (but that does require 10.8.x)
    Nvidia 4000 (I thought I read Nvidia has a 5000 Quadro) not the older 4800. Amazon has Q4K $800.

  • Mac Photoshop CS6 crash with NVIDIA GTX470 graphics card

    Hi there,
I don't know whether this is an Adobe bug or NVIDIA driver problem.
I've recently upgraded my Mac Pro's graphics card from an Asus 256MB 8400GS to a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470. Everything seems to work fine in CS6 suite apart from a weird anomaly where, dragging the 'Depth of Field' slider on a Photoshop 3D layer, Photoshop crashes. All of the other 3D controls appear to work fine, just the 'Depth of Field' causes the crash.
I've tried disabling 'Open CL' and using the lowest settings, but I still get the crash. When I reinstalled the less powerful Asus card, I didn't get a crash and could use the slider fine. Would this be an NVIDIA driver issue, or Adobe bug with NVIDIA GTX cards?
    Thanks in advance :-)

Thanks for both replies. I've sent an email to EVGA (who make the card) and I'll see what they say. Seeing as PS worked with my previous card, I guess you're right about it being a driver issue.

  • ThinkStation S10 problem with Nvidia GTS450 Graphics Card

    Hi,
I have recently purchased this Thinkstation and decided that I wanted to change the graphics card as I will mostly be using it for media (ie DVD and Bluray on my LCD TV).
I purchased a Nvidia GT 440 originally but could not get anything to display through it and recieved 3 beeps (1 long and 2 short). I confirmed with the company I bought it from that it should be compatible, and had it tested by them to check the card was not faulty.
So I sent that back for a refund and bought a Nvidia GTS 450 thinking that as it takes separate power rather than through the motherboard maybe if it was an issue with power it might work but again got the 3 beeps and no display.
Both cards I tried also at the same time as the Quadro FX370 but still got no display even though the fans were turning.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First and foremost, the GTS450 is not a supported card.   GeForce cards are not supported in Workstation class systems.  This isn't just a Lenovo statement, but also the same response you'll get from Nvidia as well.
That being said, you're likely running into a ROM space issue in BIOS.  With a known working card, try going into setup and disabling features such as PXE boot and the 2nd ethernet (assuming you're not using either of these).  I know on the 20 series (non- Eseries) we made some BIOS optimizations that would sometimes allow cards like this to at least make it through POST successfully if you free up space by disabling unused features.  Not sure if this same optimization made it into the S10/D10 series BIOS or not, but it's worth a shot.

  • New Macbook NVIDIA 9400M Graphics Card? System Requirements?

    Hi
Considering getting the new Macbook 13" with the NVidia GeForce 9400M graphics card; I need it to run Aperture but don't see this particular graphics card listed under either the Aperture Minimum Specs or the Aperture Recommended Specs list at the Aperture mini site?
Can anyone tell me if the new Macbook, with the 9400M card, meets the minimum standards or perhaps even the recommended standards for running Aperture and also if it is "officially supported" by Apple?
    Thanks,
    James

Yeah, that's what I thought at first, but I notice that it is also available as a pre-installed option on the old Macbook too.
The graphics card on the "old" Macbook is actually listed under Apertures MINIMUM recommended specs which is something I guess.

  • Graphics Card Upgrade MacPro 4,1

I'm looking to upgrade my MacPro 4,1 and I'd like to know which Graphics Card would be best...
    Any ideas ?

    WHAT DOES IT HAVE?
    GT120? ATI 4870?
What OS are you using matters also.
3 choices: ATI 5x70 or 3rd party like GTX 570 @ ebay's top MacVidCards who hangs out on MacRumors.

  • Aperture and Nvidia GT120 Graphics Card

I'm ready to order the Mac Pro 8 Core with Aperture installed. I have two questions.
    1. when Aperture is preinstalled is a card copy of the manual shipped, and
    2. will the GT120 graphics card work well with Aperture?
I will converting Canon 5DMKII raw files to 16 bit tiff.
    Thanks in advance

Coming from a G5 and a MBP, I now have a 2.66 eight core with 12Gb of ram. I have the standard GT120 installed and am waiting for a GTX 285 which is on backorder with Apple.
FWIW the GT120 is fine with my Sony 24Mpx files. I presume you'll import the raws and export as 16bit Tiffs, not work with 16bit tiffs?.
Aperture relies on GPU and I stayed away from the ATI due to the 512Mb of on board ram rather than the 1Gb of the GTX 285. I won't know if my decision was justified until the 5th Jan 2010 when I should finally be able to drop the last piece of hardware into my system.
In the meantime, aperture is fully usable and very speedy compared to my G5 and even the MBP.

  • Replacement Graphics Card for Macpro 2008 with HDMI ports

    I have a Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) 2 x 2.8 Quad core with ATI Radeon 2600 XT Dual DVI.
I would like to replace this Card with something that has at least 1 HDMI out port that supports audio. I want to be able to use download/ iview features to watch TV shows on my HD LCD TV but sourced by the Macs browser.
The Current card only has DVI ports and does not support any audio so when connected to the TV I get picture, but no sound. Not Ideal !
I see that the cards on the Apple store don't have HDMI out.
looking for lots of ideas and experiences.
    Ta

I see that the cards on the Apple store don't have HDMI out.
The apple 5x70's have 2 mini-displayports and a dual link dvi port.  The 5770 requires one aux power cable and the 5870 requires two.
You can get just as good as the name brands but much cheaper priced adapters and cables through monoprice.com.  For example, the mini-displayport to HDMI adapter:
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
There are many people who have put a 5770 into a 2008 mac pro.  Here's a google search of "5770 in a 2008 mac pro" which shows many discussions of this and even a video.
There's also some discussions on this in these forums as indicated by the More Like This section on the right side of this page.

  • Nvidia GT620 graphics card

Does this card allow Premiere to run GPU acceleration? I know its not listed in the Cuda supported cards but does it work if added to the list?
    Bye Andrew

The GT 620 only has 96 CUDA cores. It would work but you should just spend the extra money and get a GTX 650 or GTX 650 Ti with 2 GB f RAM. I have a GTX 650 Ti and it rocks! It surpassed my expectations. I had been using a GT 240 with 1 GB of RAM.
