Test color patterns on product packaging

We were discussing print design media in a class yesterday and somebody asked why there are what appears to be color test patterns on some product packaging. For example, the box of tea that I have sitting in front of me at the moment, has one of these patterns printed on one of the inner flaps of the box. Can anybody explain to me the reasoning for having these test patterns included on actual product packaging material? Thanks.

You're welcome.  It's actually a very good question.  I think the majority of consumers just ignore them, but they are key in production.
Typical offset sheetfed print jobs have them along the width of the press sheet.  Those can be used to maintain proper ink densities along the full width and depth of the sheet, as well as maintaining color registration ( alignment ).  But, in sheetfed, they are trimmed, tossed and never seen by anyone.

  • DataSource from a productive package to local package

I need to move a DataSource from a productive package (ZUPG) to the
local package ($TMP). From transaction RSA6, I've chosen the "Object
Directory" and tried to change the assignment.
However. the system prevents the user from moving an object from a
productive package to a local or test package. This is the message you
would get if you tried and changed the package to $TMP:
"Object R3TR OSOA 0REGION_TEXT has already been exported and is
therefore known in other systems. It is therefore not possible to
change the package from productive to local (private), since
    inconsistencies and errors can occur."
In theory, this should be circumvented by deleting the DataSource, and
releasing the change request thereafter. The DataSource's entry in
TADIR should get deleted and it should be possible to choose the
package $TMP when re-activating the same DataSource again in the system.
However, this is not the case in my system. The entry is not deleted
from the TADIR, even after having released the request which contained
    the (deleted) DataSource!
The question is: what could have caused such an inconsistency in
the system's TADIR? Why the entries aren't deleted after releasing the
change request, even though the DataSource had been deleted from the
    repository?
    Thanks!
    Simo

    Hello Kris,
    unfortunately your suggestion doesn't work.
As Simone explained in his first message, in fact the system prevents the user from changing the DataSource's directory entry, with the following error message:
<i>Object R3TR OSOA 0REGION_TEXT has already been exported and is therefore known in other systems. It is therefore not possible to change the package from productive to local (private), since inconsistencies and errors can occur.</i>
The system documentation proposes the following steps to switch an object to a local package:
<i>1. Use the appropriate editor to copy the object to a local object with a different name.
    2. Then delete the old object. A change request is used to transport this deletion to the other systems.</i>
Finally it is possible to rename the local object.
In other words, the DataSource is in a productive package, and it's been registered in a transport request.
As soon as an object is inserted in a productive package, you're not allowed to move it back to a local or test package anymore. You need to delete it, release the change request and recreate (re-activate in our case) the object again.
However, the system doesn't prompt the user for a package during re-activation (please refer to my previous post), because the involved entry in TADIR is not removed from the transport request at release time.

  • Color pattern matching is very slow

    Hi
I tried this code creating one vi application.
After the testing with USB webcam I have realized that the color pattern matching is very slow. How to increase the speed and to work smoothly in real time.
    Thank you

    Hello tiho,
the color pattern matching is not as fast as 8-bit matching, but should still be fast.
For example, I am attaching a VI for color pattern matching where you load the image, create the template and search do the matching.
In my example I tried color pattern matching on color image of size 4288x2848 pixels and the matching is performed in ~140 ms (~7Hz). So, for a smaller image, I think the real-time processing is quite achievable (I consider real-time 20 Hz or more). The only problem is the template learning, which in my case takes around 10 seconds. But you should learn the template only once in the initialization stage.

  • Color Pattern?

In Diagnostic mode, I can see under LCD an option to change the color pattern, but I can't seem to. How do I do this?

There is no way to change the color pattern. What you are seeing is simply a line of code from Apple. Perhaps they were testing a few different color patterns during development.

  • BAPI works in test but not in production

3rd party software uses BAPI to input data into SAP. This works in test but not in production. We have checked that user 3rd party software uses have same rights in both systems. BAPI is standard SAP BAPI. We can connect to production with SM59.
Is there anything in SAP that could cause this?

No. Better you check with the PATCH Levels.. etc to know is there any changes in the BAPI (BASIS people can help you) > Otherwise go to SYSTEM in the MENUBAR> STATUS--> Compare the Status there
After that check the data once...

  • Cloning a test CMS from a Production environment - process?

Hi there - I am attempting to clone a test environment from a production CMS system database.
    ENVIRONMENT
    BO Version: XI3.1
    O/S: Linux
    Web Server: JBOSS 4.3
    Database platform: Oracle 10g
    BOXI SETUP
    1. BOXI environment type on Production (clustered with two nodes.)
*. Linux servernames for each BOXI node=Prod100 and Prod 101.
*. JBOSS ports on both nodes=15000. CMS port on both nodes=6400.
    *. Database Sid=BOCMS@PROD
    2. BOXI environment type on Perf (clustered with two nodes)
*. Linux servernames for each BOXI node=Perf100 and Perf 101.
*. JBOSS ports on both nodes=15100.
*. CMS port on both nodes=6400.
    *. Database Sid=BOCMS@PERF
    Process and requirement
For each project, as part of performance testing, we copy the production database (CMS / system database) in order to clone it. The idea is that we have a copy of production which we can then use for performance testing. We do not need to rebuild the BOXI 3.1 server (that remains there), but we need to rebuild system database. In version five we would copy the BO_REPADMIN schema into the PERF database and then change the connections in Supervisor. Can this process also be done in XIR3.1 ?
    Options considered so far
    1. The DBAs recommended just copying the BOXI CMS / System Database tables from PROD to the PERF database. My question is - don't we then need to change the settings in the CMS database (PERF) to somehow so point to the correct physical servers / correct SIA etc.? Could I just alter th FRS references and use the cmsdbsetup.sh to alter all the details or are there other steps required (manally altering ccm.config) ?
    2. Copying the CMS from the PROD to the PERF CMS schema. However it seems like this is not an option as the Admin guides stipulates:
"However, you cannot change the BusinessObjects Enterprise installation path, operating system, and machine name"
As the installation path for the BOXI performance environment is different to production and they reside on different physical machines it sounds to me that this isn't an option, right?
    3. Use the cmsdbsetup.sh script - create a blank new CMS on the PERF database then migrate all production objects from PROD to PERF using the Import Wizard.
Could anyone recommend further options? Thanks in advance.

Can anyone tell me what is the best way to cloning the application from different environment, the test and production are in different physical server.
Can I just tar the weblogic file system and untar it to the new server and make the necessary changes?
Can anyone share their experiences and how to with me?
    Thank in advance.

    Hi Katherine,
yes and no . You need as well weblogic + soa files as the database schemas (soa_infra, mds...).

  • Color Consistency For Product Shots

I'm doing product shots for my wife's eBay sideline.
The problem I'm having is that I will take multiple shots of an item, and despite my best intentions the color will be slightly different in each shot (enough so that when placed side-by-side on a web page, it's clearly and amateurishly different).
Here's some details about what I'm doing:
I'm usually shooting in front of a large window so it's mostly natural light. Sometimes I'll use an overhead flash, but if I do, I do so for all shots. It's not like some shots include flash and some don't. So the lighting should be consistent.
I'm usually shooting against a full white background (or full black)
My white balance is set to Auto
    My exposure is manual
I'll usually try to start the shoot with a shot of a gray card. Then in Lightroom, I'll set the white balance for that shot by sampling the gray, and then copy/paste that white balance develop setting to all other shots.
So other than perhaps the Auto WB setting, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in the shooting to get different colors.
But that aside, this seems like something that should be fixable in LR, but despite copying the WB setting, I can't figure that out either.
What I would really like to be able to do is use the eyedropper tool on Image 1, then sample what should be the same color (but isn't) on Image 2 and say "LR, do whatever you need to in order to make the sampled color in Image 2 the same color as the sampled color in Image 1".

Gray cards (unless designed specifically to be so) are exposure guides, not color temperature guides.  A white balance target would do you a better job.
The gray card is from Scott Kelby's Lightroom book, and he specifically mentions using it for color correction (actually, the technique for copy/pasting the WB settings gathered from the card is from his book, too).
Also, in the Lightroom manual, it says "Move the White Balance Selector into an area of the photo that should be a neutral light gray. Avoid spectral highlights or areas that are 100% white."
It is the color of the background that varies that gives it away in a grid of images.
When I get home, I'll try to attach some sample images. But in general, the backgrounds are pretty consistently solid white - it's the coloring on the product that's different. Depending on my time and how expensive the item is, I'll use Photoshop to ensure the background is 100% white.
Without a constant light source (window light changes over the course of time) you really can't depend upon copying and pasting the settings.
Yeah, I know. I'm trying to convince my wife to use her eBay profits to buy me a properly lit mini-studio, but until then, I'm stuck with what I have (referring to the situation, not my wife!). But also, the shots are usually within a few seconds of each other - it's not like the light is changing that much, at least not enough to account for the differences.
I have a feeling that it might actually have to do more with exposure. Like the color balance might be OK, but one shot is just underexposed and so the colors appear darker. But you'd think that the LR exposure controls would be able to do that, but so far I just can't get it dialed in.

Guys thank you so much for the advises and helps.. i went back to Extra store and finally they changed my unit to a new one..Now i can figured out which one has facetime or none, from the box itself at back  it writtens arabic so definetely no facetime and if english, portugese and chinese characters has 100 % with facetime.. I'm so blessed that they agreed to changed my unit to new one. At first the manager opened  four boxes of new unit for me to check if facetime is there and he reassured me there's new batch of iphone5 coming on 2nd day. So i went back and he changed it to new one.. .Now im satisfied..

  • Color pattern match in consumer producer architecture

The way I currently have my code is as follows:
If the number of matches in a color pattern match is greater than 0, it sends the information to the consumer loop.
If it is not greater than 0, it doesn't send anything.
What I was wondering is, if it finds a match the first time and it sends the information to the consumer loop, will the number of matches in the color pattern match return to 0 or will it be greater than 0 after the first match? If the number of matches in the color pattern match will be greater than 0 after the first match, and it will still be greater than 0, even though it doesn't find a match in the following scenarios, how can I make the number of matches in the color pattern match return to 0?

it's hard to say unless you can post your code....have you tried probing tool, retain wire value, highlight execution, single stepping into and out, breakpoints?

Added some unit tests to get the metadata package above 80%
    Modified Paths:
        osmf/trunk/framework/MediaFrameworkFlexTest/org/osmf/metadata/TestTemporalFacet.as

The nature of the Media class is that it accesses it asynchronously. This means that when you create an instance of it, and then immediately query it, the data you want may not be available yet. This is all in the Javadoc, see the doc for Media:
The media information is obtained asynchronously and so not necessarily available immediately after instantiation of the class. All information should however be available if the instance has been associated with a MediaPlayer and that player has transitioned to MediaPlayer.Status.READY statusSo you could associate the Media with a MediaPlayer, and then wait until it goes to the Status READY, and then read the length of the Media.
As for your 2nd question, getMetadata() returns a Map. You can just loop through it:
      for(Map.Entry<String, Object> entry : media.getMetadata()) {
        // etc
}However, the same restrictions apply as with Media -- you will probably need to wait before the information is available -- that's why the Listener approach works, because it will notify you as soon as the information is added to the map.

No. You'll have to use calibration discs such as Disney WOW, DVE, Spears and Munsil, etc.

  • Slowness of color pattern matching vi

    Hi,
We're trying to implement a SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) algorithm in Labview based on kinect. In order to do so, the mapping robot should spot landmarks in real-time from the kinect image. We found the color pattern matching VI which does exactly what we need but the problem is that it's very slow (about 1.5 seconds for each image and total of 3 images each iteration). Is this the normal time for detecting landmarks in a kinect image? The robot can't map accurately when the iteration is so slow.
    Thanks,
