Test: NEW soundblaster z DRIVER ( SBZ_CD_L13_1_00_28 )

creative has launched new SBZ_CD_L13_1_00_28 driver for soundblaster z seris in december 2014..i installed it immedialty with hope more performance improvements.. but
testing the new driver was a huge dissapointment for me. my advise is DO NOT INSTALL it.. there is big performance problem with this driver.. when i install the driver,i saw serious fps drops in games, espicially when alchemy enabled. at first i thought this happend because of new graphic card drivers but it wasnt. when i reinstall previous driver of soundblaser z the problem was solved.. my cpu boosted , no fps drops and works great with alchemy as well.. i think creative will relaunch new driver soon..

Yes sure;
-Gigabyte h61m-s2pv mainboard
-gigabyte Gtx 650ti nvida graphics card
-creative soundblaster z sound card
-intel i5-3470 cpu
-8gb kingston ddr3 hyperx ram
-120 gb kingston ssd drive
-500gb samsung 7200rpm hdd drive
-windows 8.1 64bit
I like my soundblaster z because of its performance.. It doesnt matter what sound settings you use, soundblaster process all audio without overload my cpu.. But with new driver i feel like the cpu usage has increased.. This easly can be seen espicially when alchemy enabled.. Im not talking about specific game.. My all games are affected.. Pes15, grid autosports, call of duty advNced warfare.. I reinstall priveous driver.. Problem solved ..i got again Nice performance with quality sounds what i expected form my soundblaster..

  • New internal hard drives, seems slow with Logic 8, how can i test

    Hi,
I just bought a new internal hard drive, but it seems subtley too slow!,
On a Logic 8 song i'm working on the tracks timing seems slightly off, it's kind of driving me crazy because at times it is subtle, and other times obvious.
and 2 other things, one is an iTunes playback stalled twice, and that's never happened before,
also, when working on a Word doc, the screen was not re-drawing properly. i had to repeatedly reisze the doc window to get it re-draw itself. this has never happened before either.
is there a way to test this new hard drive?,
    thanks

There are though all the ones I've used, TechTool Pro, Disk Utility, Intech Speedtools, none were 'perfect' or as good as the vendor's own utility which runs on Windows.
But you might do something for us - include the drive make/model version, and, do a look up with Google and see if you get any helpful hits.
How you have your system setup, number of drives and organization of files, can also have an impact.
Off hand, WD Caviar 640GB is cheap and fast, or there are some 1TB drives that look good, too.
Drives do break in over a period of days or first week, and it can help to break in and torture, zero the entire drive, run media scan, use a benchmark utility to graph I/O over the full drive.
Check out Barefeats, they do a bit of drive testing benchnmarks and see what they use and results. Or Tom's Hardware.

  • How do I copy an iPhoto library, which is on an external hard drive, onto a new external hard drive?

I'm running out of space on my external hard drive, so I was advised to buy one with triple the amount of space.  So, I need to copy my current iphoto library, which is on an external hard drive, onto a new external hard drive.  I thought I could just drag and drop it in, but that doesn't seem to be working.

Make sure the external drive is formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled) and then drag the iPhoto Library to that drive using the Finder.
Then double click the library in its new location to open it in iPhoto. Test it thoroughly, if it is working, before deleting the original library on the internal drive.
To check the format of the drive, see (it says Aperture, but the same applies to iPhoto):  Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture

  • How do I transfer an existing Aperture library to a new external hard drive

I have a new external hard drive where I want to store my pictures to free up room on my iMac
How do I take an existing Aperture library and move it to the external hard drive so that Aperature can find and use it?  Once it is moved can I delete the library from my iMac without causing problems with my new hard drive library?
    thanks

    Hello Barty,
is your library referenced or managed?
If your Aperture Library is managed, then you can simply copy it to your new external drive using the Finder. Make a backup of your old library and convince yourself that the backup is working.
If your library is referenced, then use Aperture to relocate your master image files to the external drive (select all images, then File -> Relocate Master), then copy your Library to the external drive using the Finder.
To point Aperture to the new library location, double click the new Aperture Library to open Aperture with it. Test it thoroughly, before you delete the original library.
You might consider only to relocate the master images to your external drive and to leave the then much smaller Aperure Library on your system drive. That way Aperture will work faster, and you will be able to browse and share your images, even when our external drive is not connected.

  • New Hard Disc Drive for HP Pavilion dv6 because of 303 and 305 error messages

    Hello
My laptop was getting slower and slower so I did a default restore via the recovery partition and when it rebooted to start the reformat and reinstall to factory condition I got a message on the screen telling me to run the hard disc drive test. Did this and got the 303 and 305 error messages. The restore to default setting worked however after doing research in the error codes I realise I'm up for a new hard disc drive.
My laptop is  a HP Pavilion dvd6-3203TU with WIndows 7 Home Premium installed. It currently has a 320GB TOSHIBA MK3265GSXX hard disc drive in it.
After reading through the forums I'm happy to find that my Recovery Discs will reinstall everything to a new hard drive and partition it into a C: drive and also the recovery partition. The main question I have is does my new hard drive have to be 320GB in size like the original or can I buy something like a 500GB+ drive for the laptop. If I have to replace the hard drive I may as will increase the size while at it, if possible that is.
Also does it have to be a Toshiba or can I buy a different brand?
Looking forward to some help in regards to this so thank you in advance also
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Your notebook is listed as coming with a 320Gb Hard Drive, but you can just as easily install a 500Gb or 750Gb HDD if you want more space - the drives on the following links are examples that would be fine for your notebook - you're in no way restricted to a particular manufacturer.
    500Gb Hard Drive
    750Gb Hard Drive.
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 65 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

My iMac does not see the new Toshiba external drive in Finder or Disk Utility.  How can I get it to see the drive?

    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
    Try a different cable.
If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
Start up in Recovery mode and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
Start up in Safe Mode and test.
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive is malfunctioning.

  • New Leopard Printer Driver update ( running Leopard OSX 10.5.8 )

Yesterday I downloaded several updates online , one of which was a Print Driver update suggested by Apple . Today every time I try to print on my HP 310 , I get an error message ( bouncing HP Icon ) indicating that the printer is Offline . However when I activate the HP Print Quality Diagnostic Report from the computer , it prints fine via my Airport Network . Going to the printer's screen and running the Wireless Network Test Report , the printer reports excellent signal strength and no issues .
Is this new updated Printer Driver buggy ?
BTW , I also have Snow Leopard on an external drive . If I start up my iMac from that drive , the printer works fine printing the same file from my desktop .

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...

  • FCPX and speed problems with new external hard drive

    Hi All,
I have just bought a new Thunderbolt drive.   I created a very large disk image partition to separate my fcpx files from other iTunes type files - but strangely FCPX is now operating slower than it ever did when I was using 800 firewire.
Any thoughts on why this might be the case?  I have encryption on the disk image (but it is the minimum amount).
Also - FCPX hangs regularly (when I go to Finder it states that the app is not responding) but then after 1 min, is back.   The whole environment is now less stable than when i was simply using  a 800 firewire drive with a disk image.
All OS and FCPX is up to date.
    Any suggestions/comments appreciated.
    Best,
    R

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for the tip.  I ran the app (quite a nifty app at that) and my speed tests for the main drive are Read 133 mbps and Write 137 mbps.  Which is not as high as I would expect for a Thunderbolt drive - does this sound right?
Anyhow, I ran the same test on the Disk Image. And something is definitely wrong.  Read 1.4 mbps and Write 1.5 mbps
Now I am scratching my head about this hard drive.   It is a single partition - nothing fancy.  Only this large Disk Image that is for media.  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • New internal hard drive replacement not seen - why?

I have replaced the internal Seagate Momentus 7200RPM, 160Gb drive on my 2007, 17 inch MBP- with a Seagate Momentus 7200RPM 500 GB.  I used Super Duper to clone the original drive - and the new drive will boot up OK - BUT only when in an external enclosure!  Not as the new internal drive.
I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.2
When it is in place in the MBP at start up I get the flashing Question mark.  I have tried booting from another backup drive - to use Disk Utility to repair the new drive.  but it does not show up!  I have also tried booting from OS Mountain Lion on a flash drive - but, again I cannot 'see' the new Seagate internal drive to repair it!
I have checked all the connections (taken the new drive out and put it back in several times) all connections appear to be Ok.
I have tried resetting PRAM - no difference.
So, why does it only work when connected as an external drive - and does not show up when connected as an internal drive?
    PLEASE - can anyone help?
    thanks
    Alan

Hi again  - thanks!  I recall the cable snaking around and it certainly does look as in your pic.
As I put in my first post - I do have an enclosure and it does work from that.  However, it is only via USB 2 so is slow.  As I write I have booted up from my Firewire 800 backup drive.
I will explore bot iFixit and Powerbook medic and see if they can send these parts to me - so thanks to you both for all this helpful advice!
One final question - since it WAS working when I first took out the original drive it may be that I have EITHER pulled too hard and broken a connector - or just pulled one loose
Is ther any way I can test?  How are the other ends connected?  The large block of double connectors to the drive is clear - but I have not tried specifically to remove any other ends!

  • New WD Hard Drive Installed - Defective? How to Fix? Please Help!

    Hello,
I have a Mac Pro that I bought in March of 2008 (refurbished form Apple). Last week I bought a new internal hard drive for it (Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB Hard Drive SATA3G / 7200 / 32 MB. (My original hard drive is 250GB SATAT 3G / 7200 rpm / 8 MB.)
I installed it in bay 2 and successfully formatted it. Ever since it has been in the computer, I hear loud buzzing sounds coming from it. They grow louder and then die away (it takes about 5 seconds for this cycle to happen). This cycle then repeats itself about every 30 seconds. Sometimes the buzzing cycles will get quieter and quieter until they stop all together, and then will start back up again. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why this happens. Does anyone know what may be going on or if this is a defective drive and I should return it? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you so much!

We call it case or drive hum. And it seems like a harmonic clash of two devices, or the 2nd hard drive causing the case itself (metal case).
There are shock absorbent washers on the side metal door.
Drive is attached and firmly installed and the latch on the back is securely in down and lock position.
And of course it still happens.
Me, I'd pull the old inefficient 250GB drive with 8MB cache, the Seagate 7200.9s that some shipped with were horrible performance and noise).
What I do with drive is run it through WD Lifeguard in Windows a couple times (Extended Test, full format instead of quick).
Some people sought out drive sled anti-vibration washers to fit to the sled (can't change the height though in order to fit properly).
Turn off "allow drives to spin down when not in use" if on.

  • I have been storing my Aperture and IMovie Libraries on an external hard drive that recently died.  Fortunately I've been using Time Machine to back up to a 2nd external drive.  How do I restore my libraries to a new external hard drive?

I have been storing my Aperture and IMovie Libraries on an external hard drive that recently died.  Fortunately I've been using Time Machine to back up to a 2nd external drive.  How do I restore my libraries to a new external hard drive?

    This is a tricky one.
Open up Time Machine and go back to a date using the timeline on the right side of the window when you know the drive was working and was backing up as part of Time Machine backups.
Click on the name of your Mac under the Devices heading on the left side of the window in Time Machine, and if things are working correctly you will see Macintosh HD (or whatever you have named it) and the name of the external hard drive that was backing up in the past.
Right-Click on the name of the external hard drive and then click on "Restore (name of drive) to....."  You may be asked for your adminstrator password at this point.
It might be easier to restore the drive contents to your desktop if you have room on your Mac, and then copy things over to the new external drive where you want to store the Aperture and iMovie Libraries.
Once the libraries have been moved over the new external hard drive, you will likely need to "point" Aperture and iMovie to the location of the libraries on the new external hard drive.

  • Problem installing Mac OSX on my new MacBook hard drive...

    Hi,
i am beside myself again...(i just visited my local Genius bar this afternoon). Any help would be most appreciated! :o)
i purchased a 2.5 inch SATA Fujitsu 120GB laptop hard drive for my new MacBook. Followed the awesome* instructions on "how to replace/upgrade hard drive", and took out the original Toshiba HD. What the instructions* failed to mention was that i would eventually need to use a Torx screwdriver (star-shaped) to remove the caddy/carriage from the Toshiba HD. Got that the next day and replaced the Toshiba 80GB with my new 120GB Fujitsu drive..., it slipped into place nicely but i did notice that the Toshiba had four short wires protruding out to the right of the contacts, which my new Fujitsu didn't have... hmmmm...?!
anyways, tried to install Mac OSX on the new drive, booted up with the install disc... went thru' chosing the language (English), agreed to the second step... but when it came time to install, there was NO icon at all in the box where i am asked where i want to install it!!!
so i go to disk utilities, and see that my Fujitsu HD is indeed recognized, but none of the buttons in first aid are active... so i can't check it.
i figured that had to do with the four little wires, so i replaced the original Toshiba and made a reservation with Genius Bar to ask for assistance.
this afternoon, i explained my problem and was told the four wires have NOTHING to do with it... Lawrence (the genius) told me to (actually, first he said Apple does not recommend my doing this... and that i should go to a 3rd party computer store such as Dino to get help!) go back to disk utilities and partition, then erase this drive and then i will see the icon for this drive in the install box.
Well i did everything i was told to do and... still, there is no icon for my Fujitsu HD! :o(
I was able to partition, after which there was a disc0 under the Fujitsu drive on the left side of the disk utilities. When i go to system profiler, and click on ATA... it too shows the Fujitsu drive... but i cannot install because there is NOTHING to click on at the installation step! the "continue" button is not active and only the "back" button is actively mocking me!!!
i know many of you have successfully upgraded your hard drive... what am i doing wrong? Would a different brand work better? I know Seagate is quite popular, and OWC sells a Western Digital version as well as a Hitachi... do those four little wires make a difference? Would the Seagate come with those wires???
i am going crazy... thanks, and sorry for the long post, just wanted to let you know what i've done!
    blue skies,
ps. please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you think that would be better! :o)

    Hi,
...after getting back from school, my MacBook was STILL in the process of verifying and "supposedly" repairing... since i was gone for over 10 hours, i finally assumed the drive was either defective or just incompatible, and quit disk utility.
...this morning i went out and bought a new Seagate 120GB SATA (they didn't have 160GB SATA drives, only 160GB ultra-ATA drives) 2.5 inch HD. This one DID have those four wires to the right of the contacts... (i don't know how important they are), and after changing and exchanging the Toshiba/Fujitsu HDs, it was a breeze putting in the new Seagate drive.
Erased > patritioned > and sure enough, the icon showed up and the biggest smile showed up on my face as i finished installing! :o)
I contacted the original seller of my fujitsu hd (it was a 2.5 inch, 120GB, serial ATA notebook drive) and he was kind enough to say "just pack it up and send it back for a refund!" (minus shipping and re-stocking fees of course! :o)
Just wanted to mention that, the fujitsu hd WAS recognized by disk-utility and at the bottom left of the window it said that the fujitsu was "GUID partitioned"..., so i am still scratching my head as to why it didn't work?!
I want to thank everyone that offered advice, it was helpful and i feel more comfortable with my MacBook after this trying and very frustrating episode! :o)
    blue skies,

I bought a new external hard drive for backups, but time machine won't do a full back up.
I think it is remembering backing up onto previous external hard drives, which I don't own anymore.  How do I do a new full backup?
When I bought the new (used) iMac, I also bought an external hard drive for backups.  It worked fine, but my husband stole it.
Then I bought a new external hard drive (Seagate) and it worked fine for three weeks, then died.
So I just got a new external hard drive, which was put together from an internal hard drive and a hard drive enclosure.
Time machine did the first backup today, and it should have taken 9 hours like it did on the previous first time full back up.  Instead, it took 30 minutes.  That can't be right.  I want to start over and do a full backup to make sure everything gets onto my new external hard drive, but I can't figure out how to do that.  Please help.

Each line that begins with an exclamation point (“!”) represents a file that has changed on the source volume. These files have been backed up, but not in their present state.
Each line that begins with a minus sign (“-“) represents a file that has been removed from the source volume.
At the end of the output, you’ll get some lines like the following:
    Added:
    Removed:
    Changed:
These lines show the total amount of data added, removed, or changed on the source(s) since the last snapshot.
