Test snow for bad wireless card?

I have been having problems with my snow's ability to send a wireless signal. I have had it working for a long time and then it just quit. The LAN is working just fine, but my powerbook and airport express are no longer getting a signal. I have tried anything I can think of. I have even downgraded to airport admin to 4.1.1 and still no signal. Is there any way you can tell if the card is bad? Any idea or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

I would down grade to 4.1, and make sure you repair your priorities after you install it manually. The installer will balk at trying to install a downgrade:
Please see the following link for a probable fix:

It is probably the Airport 4.2 upgrade that is the culprit!

Actually, this driver already has a Wiki page, http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_BCM4312.  The new information is that it doesn't just work with bcm4312 cards, but all modern 43xx cards.  See the forum links in the previous message.
The driver is already available in AUR,

  • Verizon Wireless installer for a wireless card not working. Help?

I have this wireless card from Verizon Wireless that lets me use internet anywhere i want. Its called the USB727 manufactured by Novatel Wireless. Bundled with this toy came a disc with the installer. When i tried to pop it into my iBook running OS X 10.4.11 it wouldn't begin the auto run. When I clicked the disc on my desktop i was given a .dmg file instead of the normal Verizon logo. When i opened it i was given two options the user manual and the actual installer. The installer logo was a piece of paper instead of the normal open-cardboard box. When i clicked it I'm given a window with the title folder actions setup, the setup doesn't show up.

Hi Eddie, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Not sure why it looks like that, I'd try this...
Not certain, but this can fix myriad problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then reboot & try to install.
    Found this...
The main thing is, you need to install the VZaccessmonitor to get the right drivers, but after that you can connect through Internet Connect, as if it twere a regular modem. If you open internet connect, or the system prefs while configuring and setting up initially with the VZaccessmonitor, it will cause the repeating dialogues. I had to uninstall, make sure not to open system prefs while the VZ install ran, and then reboot--and the install had produced a new location for me.

I will be getting the Airport Extreme N router to help improve speed and range. I would get the Apple Airport express but it is not Wireless N Capable. So what should i get for my PC?

Unless your custom built XP has an N Card you will not get the benifits of the N Draft Speed and distance.
Depending on the Motherboard , there may not even be an N draft card available for the PC.
Many of the computers that are built even today are not capable unless you add external device if capable.

  • OS 9 Wireless card

What would be the best wireless pcima card for a Titanium powerbook G4 at 1GHZ running trusty OS 9? I heard these models have very bad wireless, so it would be best for a wireless card.

Hi, Sabrina. See this thread in the Titanium Powerbook Discussions area. Any of the cards discussed there should work fine in OS 9.
I have the same Powerbook model you do, and its built-in Airport card has more than three times the range of the newer Aluminum PB G4s with Airport Extreme. My range is comparable with that of many third-party cards. However, almost any third-party PCMCIA wireless card is still much less expensive than an original Apple Airport card.
I would stay away from Belkin cards, since they've released several different revisions of their current model requiring different drivers, and made no distinction among them in model numbering. They also offer no Mac-knowledgeable tech support.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 Wireless card does not work with WIN2K ?

I have a Satellite Pro 4600 with UK dealer installed PA3070U-1MPC wireless card running with Windows 2000
The wireless client manager finds the network of my wireless router and reports the signal is excellent and I see all green bars swhowing.
However I can't mske a connection, in 'connections' the wireless one says 'network cable is disconnected'
the router works ok with other laptops in my house.
I have latest version of Win2K also have downloaded and installed latest versions of client manager and WLAN card driver for win2k from toshiba website.
The 'toshiba support in Turkey' told me 'I need a different driver for Win2K for my wireless card cause the win2K driver on the toshiba website is not for 'this' wireless card'. I have waited for this for 3 weeks now and have been unable to reach the elusive UK Level 3 support who supposedly have this driver. I have seen on the internet the same wireless card is has been sold as a 'made by toshiba' accessory and it says it is compatible with Wim2K
What do I do next please ? Does this run at all with Win2K , is there 'another driver' and so on ?
    Thanks

    hello
please be more scpecific - what do you mean by 'disconnect the LAN' - I have nothing conneced there anyway ? do you mean 'disable' the LAN even though there is nothing plugged in ? can you please post the exact sequence of this so I can try ir too.
In the meantime my laptop has been to Toshiba for them to sort out at their highest level UK support base. I was hoping my troubles would be over - but no, read below what happened. They are basically saying my win2k is not in order but I had just installed and updated it so right now I haven't a clue what to do next.
START QUOTE of Toshiba Support response:
    Sat Pro 4600
    Serial No: 31474181G
Windows 2000 SP4 (customers build not recovery CD)
BIOS V1.80 not current therefore updated to V2.60
The notebooks wireless card is functional and has the correct driver installed, it also has the correct and latest version of the Wireless Client Manager. The wireless function appears to see the router but will not connect and obtain an IP address. Irrespective of the settings applied within Internet Explorer or the Wireless client manager you cannot obtain a connection. The customer did not have any Toshiba utilities installed such as, Power Saver, Common Modules, Chipset drivers, network device switch, I therefore installed these missing components and updated the BIOS to the most current revision. However despite this the unit will still not connect to the wireless.
I therefore removed the customers HDD and replaced his HDD with a Toshiba loan HDD with a fresh build that I had created. When using the machine with this build the wireless connected without issue and I was able to browse the internet etc. I placed the customers HDD into our machine and the problem with the wireless was replicated on our machine here, therefore the problem is not with the wireless card or any hardware aspect of the machine, the problem lies with the customer's build of Win 2000. I examined for anything obvious but could not find anything, therefore I'm sending this machine back to customer with the advice that his build needs addressing or he needs to reload Win 2000 his machine.
As you can see from the above comments, the machine performs as per specification with loan HDD and fresh build of Win 2000 installed, the problem is only present with you HDD and build in the machine. In addition to this I have replaced the missing screws on the base of the machine ensuring the machine is structure is maintained.

    1 x B6 Screw
    1 x Memory Cover Screw

  • Using Airport Extreme Base Station As A Wireless Card?

    Hi,
I don't know if this is even possible but here's what I'd like to do:
I've started to share an internet connection with a cousin of mine that lives in my apartment building. The connection is in her apartment and as far as I can tell the wireless signal is coming from the modem she has, there is no stand alone router/ base station. So far I've just been connecting using my iBook with the aiport card in it. No problems. I just had to get the ip number and password from her and I was hooked right up.
    Here's my real question:
I also have a G4 Mini with no wireless card in it at all and an Airport Extreme base station from before we started sharing a connection. In the time that we've been sharing I haven't connected to the internet at all using the Mini. Now I'm wondering if there is a way I can hook the Airport Extreme to the Mini and somehow use it as a replacement for a wireless card in the Mini. Thus using the Mini connected to the Airport to connect just the Mini to the internet.
I'm not worried about the iBook and do not wish to reconfigure the way I'm using/ connecting with it. Everything is peachy with that.
If this is possible, how can I do it?
Thank you in advance for any help with this.

She has an "integrated" modem/router/access point.

Set up the AEBSn as a "bridge" and connect the G4 Mini to one of the "wired" internet connections.

  • Setup wireless card during bootup

    Hey,
It took my awhile to get my wireless card to work but I finally got it to work. In the beginning, I had to type every command to get my wireless card to work. A little later my friend made a script that runs during start up. But it encountered a problem. When the command ''dhcpcd ath0" it would just hang so I took that out. It ran fine but now I have to run "dhcpcd ath0", let it run for 4 or 5 seconds, then kill it with ctrl + c, and then finally run it again. My connection is then established. So this gets a little annoying.
Now I come to you, the community. What is the best way to setup a wireless card during boot-up? My friend (yes, its the same one as before ) said that there was a wireless script or profile that most people use. Would this help? Thanks.

    Is this correct?
    Not entirely.
Comment everything in the DNS section , it's not used with dhcp and could cause conflicts
    In wireless settings
    - uncomment the line for IFOPTS
    - comment the line WIFI_INTERFACE (iirc it's only needed with ndiswrapper)
Change the DESCRIPTION field to something appropriate like "Wlan at home"

But anyways my wireless ain't connectin on my DM4 so I took it over to our local repair shop a few blocks over in Suifaga to see if the boys there could get it workin again. To make a long story longer, they've just called me on my cell phone to tell me that they can't get the old wireless working. My friend Fabien's going to say to you what they said to him when i handed him my phone after they called me. Bye :-*

  • Wireless card

what would i need to have wireless internet like in a car?
like we have a wireless pc card for my dell. but i just recently bought a macbook, and want to have wireless internet like when we go on trips and what not.

I have a card for my Powebook G4 and it's costly. About $79.00 a month, not including the card from Verizon. Unless you have the money which doesn't include another adaptor for the wireless card to work with the Macbook, I would recommend checking out Smith Micro. They carry USB adapters for connecting a cell phone to a laptop. Otherwise, joining a hotspot would the alternative.

It's a Broadcom BCM4322 chipset. More than likely soldered directly on the main board, since the take-down photos of the new aluminum MacBooks don't show anything that looks like the older removable AirPort cards.
