Testing a 1024x768 Folio in PDF format on iPad 2 and iPad 3

With the same Luminosity level, colors are less saturated on the iPad 3. I prefer the colors on the iPad 2, especially the yellow color of my client's logo !
Also it seems the iPad 3 displays more blues.
Quality of inline videos semmes native on the iPad 3, all the pixels are concentrated so the quality is much better on the 3.
The slight bluriness of photos on the iPad 2 renders the same photos better than on the iPad 3 because on the latter pixels are more sharp.
The quality of texts is of course better on the iPad 3 but I'm not impressed by a white (Registration 5%) text on a black background, I expected a higher quality than what I see on the iPad 2.
PDF rendering much faster, almost immediate.

I agree 100%.  And I thought it was just me;)
I MUCH PREFER the COLOR on the ipad 2.  All photos on my new ipad appear more washed out --less saturated and more blue.  However there is no question that the text and graphics are crisper.
So, you are absolutely not alone!
Guess it is time to send apple some feedback...
However, I remain a big fan.  Of course, the price tag on my new ipad makes me wish I had ordered the minimum hard drive.
Now, if the app store would just update the content viewer, I could move on!

How do I sync a PDF file between iPhone and iPad in iBooks?

If the PDF supports it then you can try opening the PDF in iBooks on your phone and use the 'share' icon (the square with the upward pointing arrow) to email it to yourself (some PDFs a protected and don't support emailing) and use 'open in' in the Mail app on your iPad to copy it to its Mail app.
Or you can connect the phone to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy it over to your iTunes (that should copy PDFs and/or epubs that are in the iBooks app, not just ibooks) and if using a Mac with Mavericks or Yosemite on it then do File > Move Books From iTunes in its  iBooks app, and you can then sync it to your iPad.

  • Problem with "Save as Adobe PDF format" in Excel and Word

    Hi
When I use printing zone in Excel and make a «Save as Adobe PDF format» (menu File / Save as Adobe PDF), the first save is well done. But when I make it a second time, what's not in the printing zone is printing in the document.
I have also problem with the «Save as Adobe PDF format» in Word. The images superposition are not well print.
I'm using Windows 7 in french, Office 2010 french and Adobe Acrobat XI standard. All is in the latest version.
    Thanks

The Save As PDF feature in Office2008 Call up a PDF  Creator similar to the AdobePDF Print Driver. whch OX.6 can't use.
To create Pdf you have to use method used:
    http://indesignsecrets.com/acrobats-adobe-pdf-printer-replaced-in-snow-leopard.php
Not before you attempt to use this method if  Rossetta is not installed. pop in your Systems DVD and install Rosetta. Then follow directions to install the Adobe Quality PDF Automator Script which will show up in the Print Menu. Click on Print > then click PDF. Then Click on Adobe quality PDF.  AS for setting up Job options and other details Supposedly your suppose to  have access. But I have no idea.
First thing Rosetta should be installed out of the box. and Second Adobe should install this Script from their installer. So their should be no intervention from the user. it should just work. Early report when OSX.6 first came out almost no one was able to get this to work. and I see periodic reports that people still can't get it tork and they have to to resort to saving as .ps files then droping on distiller.
    Good luck.

  • Sync Highlight in PDF file between Mac and iPad

I need to read hundreds of PDF articles/books(downloaded from non-apple sources) on Mac(OS X 10.9.5) and iPad(iOS 7.2). Problem is that marking/highlight done in PDF file in iPad using Adobe reader/Foxit/TinyPDF or any other PDF reader can not be synced to Mac. iBook in iPad has no function of highlight/underline for third party PDF files. I can open file from Google drive or Dropbox in to Adobe reader or any third party PDF reader but once I do highlight or marking in it, that file can not be saved back to dropbox/google drive, hence I can not view that file with highlight/marking in my mac. As per my knowledge iCloud drive in iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 also have same limitation.
Tried  other apps like Mendeley(size limit of 50 mb), Evernote (insert PDF file in evernote - but built in PDF reader is useless for large files with >1000 pages). Still could not find solution . Can you please help me out?

  • Viewing PDF documents on iphone and ipad

Hey, I just ran across something that makes no since to me so maybe some of you have ran across it before.
My son-in-law just sent me a PDF document that opens and is filled out completely but on his iphone and ipad it shows up as a blank document
I resent him the form that I can read but when he opens it the form is blank.  If he selects quick look the form fills out and can be view.  I would believe it has to be a setting because the form can be viewed on both my iphone and my daughter's iphone, but not on his.
    The form was emailed.
He and I are using a iphone 5 and my daughter is using an iphone 6,
When the same email is viewed on the ipads it shows up as a blank document until you select Quickview then the form fills in and can be viewed.
I would believe it to be some setting but I can find nothing that is different on his phone than mine.
    Any suggestions.

If he can read the form when he selects Quicklook, that's a new one on me. That has never, ever worked for me. Form fields have never been visible as attachments in the built in Mail app on any iOS device that I have ever owned. he needs to download a real PDF reader app in order to view, edit, sign, etc. form fields. Tell him to download Adobe Reader which is free and it gives him all of that functionality. Other pdf apps will do the same things, but Adobe Reader is free.
it's tough to beat free and functional.

  • 1024x768 folio and iPad 3

    After reading this : http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalpublishing/files/2012/03/DPS_iPad3_bestpractice.pdf
    I wonder
My project has started in December and thus everything has been designed for 1024x768.
In the meantime the iPad 3 has arrived.
My folio is fully in PDF format. Only the images have a slight raster effect.
I have fully tested the folio on iPad 3 and they are no differences compared to iPad2.
My app has been submitted to iTunes Connect.
What are Apple's app reviewers doing if the app contains a folio only designed for 1024x768 but in PDF format ?

    Bob B recomends two renditions.
You create a single 1024 ID file with the high res images scaled down in ID to fit 1024 format.
Export one rendition using 1024 in Folio Builder, then create another using 2048 in Folio Builder. The current set of tools resamples most content including slideshows to the resolution of the rendition defined in Folio Builder.
I have done this and it works in testing although the latest issue of our mag has not yet been submitted to Apple. Maybe someone who has completed the process can continue this thread?

  • Handling legacy PDF-format folios in Kindle viewer

I'm working with a client to publish a magazine on the Kindle Fire. The magazine, a bimonthly, has been available on the iPad for more than a year now. All of the folios that we have produced for the iPad are PDF format. (Which turned out to be a good decision, since they will display nicely on the new iPad.)
We will produce a 1024x600 rendition for the Kindle going forward. However, all of the legacy folios show up in the Kindle viewer library and are not readable. The reader displays an error when you try to open one of the old folios. ("This folio contains one or more PDF stacks which are not yet supported ...")
I would like to prevent some frustration for our readers here, but we do not have the budget or time to rebuild all of the legacy folios as 1024x600 documents.
The Kindle will adequately display 1024x768 PNG-based folios by adding bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Not ideal, but adequate. If we were to shave a few pixels -- say, 4 or 6 -- from the width of the legacy folios and rebuild them as PNG-based folios, would the difference be enough for the Kindle to recognize those as renditions and load them instead of the full-size folios? And would the iPad ignore the slightly narrower folios? That would allow us to address the problem without having to redesign a years' worth of magazines.
Thanks to Adobe and Amazon for working out the issues with the Kindle viewer. Looking foward to seeing our publications on both platforms soon.
    SB

If you set up renditions (same Folio Name, different Size values) between folios, it should work. Try shaving off one pixel and creating a 1024x767 folio and source documents. It definitely won't show up on the iPad (iPads viewers display 4:3 aspect ratio folios only), and if you set up renditions properly, the 1024x768 folio won't show up on Android.

  • Will an iPad work as a reader for a PDF formatted test book

The typical file I want to read is about 1000+ highly formatted pages and 400 MB.    Simple requirments I have are:
    1) Can I actaully see a page of text and read it.  I tried this on a Kindle and was forced to zoom in and then horizontally scroll a window around for EVERY line of text I read
    2) Say I'm reading in chapter 14 and I ned to review something from chapter 5.  Can I jump back to 5 and then return to 14 in some "reasonable" way?  Notice that scolling back and forth 850 pages using the finger swipe is not "reasonable".
I think those two requirements are basic and the minimum anyone would need.
Just today I walked in to an Apple store (Manhatten Beach, CA) with an example text book file on a flash drive and asked if I could read it on an iPad and they said (I'm NOT making this up!) that I would have to buy an iPad, take it home and see for myself.   No kidding, the ONLY thing I could look at in-store were the demo e-books that Apple has tested and found to work. I thought that was pointless because of course the demos work.  What I wanted to know was if the iPad can even display my MUCH larger and more complex real-world files.  They said "buy it first.", no kidding they did point out the two week retunr policy.  I was about to say "OK sell me 5 of everything in this store I'm going to set up a lab in the office for a week and invite a few dozen students to test it all then I'll return everything"   But while I might do that, what is the point of having a retail store.
So I ask here: Is anyone reading a university level science or math text book (introductary bio-chem and the like) on an Apple iDevice?
I am both a teacher and a student of this matrial so I have an interrest in both using and recommending readers.

Yes it can read PDFs.  But can it
    (1) jump to and back from a lace in the document 850 pages away and
    (2) display a typical bio-chem text book page s that it is readable including any side bars

  • .folio pdf format

    Hi,
I work with digital publications using the DPS and have some doubts regarding fonts:
))) To export my .folio files in PDF format, I need licensing for the fonts I work with. From what I understood, this happens because I actually install the fonts in the .folio and this requires further licensing for distribution. Which fonts can I use this way? Can it be any type or does it needs to be an Adobe type?
))) According to this document http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/legal/pdfs/DPS_Approved_Fonts.pdf, usage of these Adobe types won't require further licensing to distribution through DPS. This means that any other font, either it is Adobe or not, must have further licensing, right? Which license should I require the designer/foundry to distribute it through DPS? How is it designated?
))) It is said I have the rights to distribute commercially any font in my CS font package. How do I know which fonts will be available for me after acquiring the CS6 through the Creative Cloud? Is there any list available?
    Thanks
    Pedro

Take a look at this document: http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/legal/additional_licenses.html
It has a list of all of the fonts that you are definitely allowed to embed in folios. Check the licensing pages of the foundries that you have purchased other fonts from. Some allow embedding, some don't. Take a look at their font embedding sections.

  • Payment advices in F110 to be sent by email (PDF format) - step by step

    Hi SDN,
We have a requirement to automatically send payment advices in F110 via email. The requirement is to send the file in PDF format. I've done a lot of browsing through in the forums, as well as check SAP notes, but none has really detailed a step by step process on how to go about it.
I've also checked SAP NOTE 836169, but it is also not that detailed.
Assuming that SCOT has been already set up by BASIS, I've done the following steps to test if the auto-email works, and here are the steps I did.
    1. Vendor Master Data -Define u2018Std communication methodu2019 as SMTP (Internet mail) and maintain an email address in the vendor master data.
    3. T-Code BERP u2013 Code to find the relevant BTE. Use the Selection Attribute to browse for your business area. In my case, it is AP-Payment Transactions hence FI-AP-AP-PT.
00002040 is the relevant process. This is a Function called SAMPLE_PROCESS_00002040. In this case, the FM only checks for an email address in the Vendor Master. If more logic is required a Z-version would need to be created.
    4. Use t-code FIBF to create the enhancement.
    a) Create a product.
A product groups together customer enhancements to BTEu2019s developed in the customer's namespace. All customer enhancements assigned to a certain customer product can be released with the Activate Customer Product indicator. The OPEN_FI function module for a certain customer enhancement cannot find the corresponding customer function modules, until this has been done.
Create the product name (for example ZMAIL) and make it active.
    FIBF->Settings->Products->u2026of a Customer
    b) Assign the BTE to the FM:
    Settings->Process Modules->u2026of a customer
Assign the 00002040 process to the FM and Product.
    5. Run the autopayment program F110.
After I run the following steps, no email is being generated by the system. Is there anything that I still need to do? Or could anybody please kindly provide a step-by-step process? I'm a functional person, so I won't be able to do ABAP programming for this. Thanks and regards to all

    Hello,
    Check SCOT and SOST transactions.
At a previous client using 4.6C we did a program and allocated it in F110.  The program reviewed the payment tables and sent the payment advice (basic list) to the employee vendors.
    Also check http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/sandbox/SendMailwithPDFAttachment
