Testing at BrainShare 2011

Greetings,
I see that all certification exams will be free this year at BrainShare.
Does anyone know if this will also include LPIC exams and if we are
limited to the number of exams we can take?
Thank you in advance,
-Don

I agree, disappointing to say the least. When the web site states "And
don't forget, all certification exams (including practicum) will be FREE
at BrainShare." it is misleading.
Well the testing is free (this year). It just (to me) was not totally obvious HOW to sign up for the free testing. For example, I didn't know that you had to pick the ATT "class" and that was the TESTING.
Perhaps if they'd had a link or an instruction below that statement (you have to go to the scheduler and schedule ATT CLASS BLAH BLAH).

  • Wireless Vs Ethernet Testing

    I have just purchased a new NAS (Synology DS413).
    I am in the process of Transfering Data back to this device and come across and oddity, that I am looking for advise on how to troubleshoot.
    Test Environment
    Mid 2011 iMac - OSX Lion - Ethernet Connection
    RMBP - OSX Mountain Lion - Wireless 5 Ghz
    Gigabit Switch + Airport Extreme with Wireless N
    I had a 3.6GB DMG file which I wanted to transfer to the NAS.
    RMBP     - Approx 9 minutes
    iMac         - Approx 1 minute
    I would not expect such a big difference in network performance between Ethernet and Wireless.
    Can anyone provide any information on tools that I can use to measure actual network performance on Mac.

    I would, especially with gigabit ethernet.

    Hi,
    I have been using Oracle Flashback Database for a long time in our test environments. As you already said, I recommend that you create Guaranteed Restore Points rather than rely on db_flashback_retention_target.  If you are planning to use Guaranteed Restore Points only, then you don't need to turn on flashback. If flashback database is not enabled, then the database must be mounted, not open, when creating the first guaranteed restore point (or if all previously created guaranteed restore points have been dropped).
    My Answers:
    1) I don't think so. Flashback database is faster compared to RMAN restore/recover operations.
    2) Create a backup ins not mandatory, but is a good practice.
    3) I created a Nagios plugin that take this work for me, but you can check the v$recovery_file_dest view from time to time.
    4) If you take a backup then I don't see a problem, but take care that flashback database relies not only on flashback log files but also in archive redo log files. I recommend you to delete archivelogs (from RMAN) after you drop the restore point.
    5) Flashback log files are automatically deleted after the Guaranteed restore points are deleted.
    6) Read documentation, make more tests. In 2011 I wrote an article (Brazilian Portuguese) about Flashback Database. Maybe you can take a look ;-)

  • Database queries - is there a wait or sleep functionality?

    Hello everyone,
    I have recently encountered a problem where a database collector I made
    just stops querying after a while and needs restarting in the ESM for it
    to work again. In other databases (I am querying Oracle btw), this does
    not happen and in some others it does. So I am basically thinking that
    some databases are configured to limit the amount of querying or force
    an exit on error.
    What I have noticed, is that in my Oracle environment (no fancy
    configurations, all very permissive) I get alot of ORA-0100 errors
    indicating that there are too many open cursors. This happens when the
    last row in the database has been reached and the errors stop being
    shown in Active Views only after some data is inserted in database and
    collector resumes normally the task of collecting data until no more
    records are available and once more errors appear in Active Views.
    I altered the amount of allowed open cursors and incremented from 300
    to 500. Still, I keep getting errors (like every 20 seconds). I want to
    minimize these amount of errors and hopefully solve my original problem
    of having to manually restart the collector in some customer
    environments. I came up with the following snippet (bottom of message),
    but can't seem to find a function for having the collector sleep or
    wait. I tried Thread.sleep() (From Java) and setTimeout() (From
    Javascript) but both raise errors since they are undefined methods for
    the collector.
    The Sentinel API makes reference to "queryDelay" and "queryScheduled"
    flags which are supposedly defined in sqlquery.js. I cannot find any
    reference in the code to these flags and I am not even sure of how to
    implement them ( if(!queryDelay) { conn.send(DBQUERY) } ?????? ).
    How can I use these flags in the code to help me reduce the number of
    queries being thrown when there is no data? Or will I have to hack my
    own sleep or wait function? I appreciate any assistance!
    snippet of code I want to implement:
    Code:
    Connector.prototype.sendQuery = function(){
    if (rec.CONNECTION_STATUS == "NEED-QUERY") {
    if (instance.CONFIG.myCounter >= 3) {
    //HERE INSERT A SLEEP OR TIMEOUT FUNCTION
    instance.CONFIG.myCounter = 0;
    } else {
    conn.send(instance.CONFIG.DBQuery);
    //instanced in initialization function. Resets to zero when query is successful.
    instance.CONFIG.myCounter = instance.CONFIG.myCounter + 1;
    return true

    I experience the same problem with my custom collector.
    But the beta connector is not there anymore.
    Can you please provide the connector so that I can test if it solves my

  • Subnet Route masks

    Hello,
    We've run out of IP address on one of our class C networks, so what I trying to do is change the subnet mask of the Class C from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.252.0, thus giving us 1056 route-able address.
    This seems to work well everywhere except in the routing table of our DNS server which happens to be A NW65 SP8 box with Border 3.9.
    For example I added added extra NICs to the servers on this subnet running out of IPs and set up workstations with IPs in the 192.168.200.0/22 range and we can log into the servers, I added routes to our layer 3 switches and we can route to our SuperLumin's box (not in production yet) and we can access the internet. But when we try to access other devices on our network using DNS or try to access the internet using the Border box (production box) we can not.
    When I tried to add the route to the box using inetcfg it seem to add, but using TCPCON the route isn't showing up and when I try to add the route through TCPCON I get an error stating the subnet mask is less than the default.
    I haven't finished testing the SuperLumin's box yet, so moving it into production isn't an option at this time. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around this limitation in Netware. Or do I just need to bite the bullet and move to a class B subnet.
    Allen

    First, you'd have 1022 usable addresses, not 1056 ((256*4)-2). I
    believe I've heard in the past that NetWare's TCP/IP stack, while
    typically handling this well, does not support the situation where it is
    doing routing of "odd" netmasks such as /22. If you put your NetWare
    box somewhere that it doesn't need to see this network excitement (for
    example, on its own class C) and let the router handle all of this type
    of traffic (perhaps putting NW in a DMZ or something) then this should
    go away. I also sort of thought this was specific to when NetWare was
    acting as a router but perhaps it's whenever NetWare is needing to do
    any calculations for routing at all in this area.
    Going to a Class B would also help if you've identified the issue
    correctly, but it may be easier to just have the network's routers do
    the routing and put the NetWare box where it is free from this type of work.
    Good luck.

  • Just checking on another odd feature: Typedef enum Property Node "Value" not reflecting changes in the Typedef?

    Just encountered this odd behavior in LV 2011 which I reduced to the following example:
    - create a new VI and drop an enum control on te FP.
    - make this control a typedef and open the corresponding typedef
    - create a "case 1" item and a "case 2" item
    - save the typedef (I used the name Typedef Control 1) and CLOSE it (this is to allow updating of the original control).
    - drop a case structure on the diagram and connect the enum to it:
    So far so good. Now create a "Value" Property node for the enum and use it instead of the terminal:
    If I now go back to the typedef and add a "case 3" item, save the typedef and close it, the control is updated, but the Property node is not.
    How do I know that? For one, the Case Structure contextual menu does not offer to create a case for every value. Also, if I add a "case 3" case manually, it turns red.
    Luckily, the magic Ctrl-R key stroke actually does solve this problem.
    Tested in LV 2011.

    By Ctrl-R trick do you simply mean running the VI?  That is one way to force a recompile, but if you hold down Ctrl while pressing the run button you can recompile without running.  This should not be "dangerous" in any situation.
    As you have drawn your example, I see no reason not to use a local in that situation (ok, maybe for vanity).  Still, I view the behavior you describe as a bug, and it should certainly be fixed for the benefit of local haters out there.  You have to be a little careful where you draw the line between what gets handled in real time and what gets handled only at compile time.

  • Weird and Wonderfull BB-Vision / Experts and Mods ...

    I have some questions about slow Broadband, Vision V04 error message and an IPlayer Code 0 error message (at end of this message).
    IMO the Vision V04 and IPlayer issues are directly associated with unreliable and inconsistent Broadband.
    Background
    I have raised this issue a number of times in the past through the BT Complaints procedure, 30-06-2010, 11-08-2010, 04-06-2011, 07-06-2011, and today. I have also phoned the 0800-111-4567 help line a number of times with regard to the same issue.
    As an indication the following is a Total Broadband graph of my speed results, from November 2010 through to 25-06-2011.
    I have been taking ADSL Stats and BT Speedtester results, which I record to a spreadsheet, since May and three times a day since the beginning of June. I can post some of these results if it will help.
    An engineer came on the 9th June, fitted an ADSL v 1.0 plate and disconnected the earth wire. During the visit the engineer checked my line and stated that it was fine and should be capable of BB speeds in excess of 4.0 mbps (actually should be able to get up to 5.0 mbps). I contacted BT on the 14th June to switch me back from fast to interleaved, which was done later that day. The switch to fast was done a few weeks earlier at the suggestion of a person on the help line.
    From the 14th June, after the switch to interleaved, BB speed was relatively stable although there was a restart about twenty four hours later not initiated by me. From this time, 15th June through to the 21st June, almost six days without any restarts, noise margin stayed reasonably consistent at between 14.0 dB and 15.0 dB (down). Other stats also stayed reasonably consistent with speeds in the 2.7 mbps range and an IP Profile of 3.0 mbps.
    On the evening of the 21st June there was another (automatic-system) restart. Since then all stats have fluctuated drastically. Noise margin has generally increased to the current figure of 28.8 dB (down). Attenuation has occasionally increased to 45.0 and 47.0 dB but then falls back to the consistent level of 43.0 dB. Power output has also occasionally varied and is at the current level of 15.6 dBm (down). I also have high FEC Errors and Error Seconds. CRC and HEC Errors are generally low.
    Over the past five to six days restarts have been happening on a daily basis usually between 16.00 and 17.00 hours. Monitoring the line stats during this period shows that the noise margin reduces to below 1.0 dB (probably 0), this happens within minutes until the broadband signal disappears. Approximately five minutes later it will re-establish. This sometimes happens more than once. During this time the Hub broadband light turns orange and flashes until the connection is re-established when it turns a solid blue. Last night and this morning the BT Speedtester failed with the message unable to complete the Assured Rate test.
    The hub is connected direct to the main telephone plate.
    I have also noted that Openreach have been working in Fawley-Holbury, and around the 23rd June there was a fault in theSouthampton area that affected 0238 numbers (my exchange number). Apparently this fault was resolved.
    I have also noted noise on the telephone line using the 17070-2 silent line test.
    One final point, a neighbour also has a HomeHub2. Checking my network connections the neighbour’s hub consistently gives a higher wireless output than mine. This is surprising as my hub is only three to four metres away from my pc whereas the neighbours must be a minimum of at least ten to fifteen metres and behind two external brick walls, maybe more.
    I purchased the HomeHub2, in October 2008, it is a V 2.0 Type A (firmware 8.1.H.J updated 18-03-2011; it was not supplied free with BT Vision. I have had BT Vision since December 2008, I have the silver STB.
    I have just done a complete system reset of the Hub and Vision box, plugged the vision box direct in to Port 1 on the Hub, Port 2 goes to the master Powerline adaptor. The slave Powerlines are plugged in to a Blu-ray player and an old laptop. The ADSL Stats improved but the assured rate test still failed.
    Questions
    1/. Is my HomeHub2 defunct should I get an alternative?
    2/. Is my telephone line the cause of the problem or are both the hub and line defective.
    3/. Why is a neighbour’s Homehub giving a stronger wireless signal than mine.
    4/. I seem to be able to use ‘on demand’ and the IPlayer with Best Effort and Assured Rate speeds far below the recommended 2.0 mbps (not complaining but this is not reliable).
    5/. How can my Assured Rate speed test result be higher than the Best Effort test, when my Assured Rate IP Profile is 600 kbps, example Best Effort 873 kbps, Assured Rate 1230 kbps.
    6/. With and AR IP Profile of 600 kbps how can I achieve speeds in excess of 2000 kbps (several occasions), highest recorded 2996 kbps with a BE of 3684 kbps, with a BE IP Profile of 2500 kbps.
    7/. Why should the hub output power vary?
    8/. Can RFI (radio frequency interference) cause problems? I am close to the Fawley Refinery and the Solent, theSolentwill have ships and ferries with radar and there are possibly microwaves near by and I am about 400-500 metres from a mobile phone mast. I am also 400-500 metres from overhead high voltage power lines, which distribute from the Fawley Power Station, but this is only used as a stand-by so I have ruled out interference from these. This does not appear to affect other ISP’s from the Fawley exchange. (See the Think Broadband map).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    @guilbo
    Thanks for the comments. I tried to register a fault and did a test on my phone line through the BT.com (MyBT) site. It said there was no problem with my line. I followed this with a 17070-2 silent line test and as far as I was concerned it was noisy. I will wait a few days to let my curent complaint work through the system and then phone BT and report a noisy line. My current stats are as follows;

  • What's wrong with this picture (unbundle display glitch)?

    Let me state first that I actually like the look of what I am going to show you, and I am tempted to suggest it as an actual feature...
    In any case, here it is:
    This is an unbundle node in an actual diagram. All items are connected. I was simply hovering over them to better read the name of the objects (white on a darker background is easier on my eyes than a pale orange on a white background) and as I was doing so, I noticed that if I lingered long enough and at the right location on an item, it would remain highlighted when I moved to the next one. This is how I generated the situation above (it took me some time to get it right, but that is not too difficult).
    Note that I am not activating the wiring tool (BTW, I have autotool off), I am just hovering with it over the unbundle node.
    All my drivers are up to date (including video drivers). Tested in LV 2011, Windows XP.

    This is probably the same display issue which was discussed here - http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Property-node-inverted-color/m-p/871556#M394578
    As long as it's not doing anything bad, it doesn't really bother me.
    That said, I don't remember seeing it in a long time, so it's possible that this stopped happening for me in LV 2009 (unlikely) or that it was an issue with the video driver on my previous laptop.
    Try to take over the world!

  • Strange errors when using user defined function in where clause

    Hello,
    I am having trouble with a function that, when used in the where clause of a select will cause an error if the first column selected is of type INTEGER. Not sure whether I am doing something wrong or whether this is a bug.
    Here is a very simple test case:
    create table test(
    col1 integer not null,
    col2 varchar(20) ascii default ''
    insert into test values(1,'2011-03-15 05:00:00')
    insert into test values(2,'2011-03-15 07:00:00')
    CREATE FUNCTION BTR_TAG  RETURNS VARCHAR AS
        VAR ret VARCHAR(20);
      SET ret='2011-03-15 06:00:00';
      RETURN ret;
    Select * from test where col2 >= BTR_TAG()
    Select col1,col2 from test where col2 >= BTR_TAG()
    =>  Error in assignment;-3016 POS(1) Invalid numeric constant
    Select '',* from test where col2 >= BTR_TAG()
    Select col2,col1 from test where col2 >= BTR_TAG()
    => works as it should
    MaxDB V 7.7.07.16 running on Windows Server 2003
    I can replicated the test case above with Sql Studio and other ODBC based tools.
    Thanks in advance,
    Silke Arnswald

    Hello Siva,
    sorry, but I don't understand your reply:
    This is not right forum to posting this question.
    You are from which module or working any 3rd party application.
    MaxDB 7.7.07.16 is the community version of MaxDb,
    we are not using it for SAP
    and no 3rd party software is required to reproduce my problem,
    Sql Studio or Database Studio will do.
    Regards,
    Silke Arnswald

  • [SOLVED] TeXLive: Installing font package and updating font map fails

    I am trying to install the newtx package, which is available here at CTAN [1].
    Since I don't want to mess with my TeXLive installation, I am trying to do that as a local user only.
    So I placed the package into ~/texmf/tex/latex/. , ran texhash on texmf/ to update my local ls-R, and so far everything works nicely; for example, the .sty files in that package can be seen:
    $ texhash texmf
    texhash: Updating /home/$USER/texmf/ls-R...
    texhash: Done.
    $ kpsewhich newtxmath.sty
    /home/$USER/texmf/tex/latex/newtx/newtxmath.sty
    Now, following the packages README [2], I need to update the my TeX font maps. Seems like 'updmap' is the right tool to do that for my user only:
    $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map
    copy /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg => /home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg
    Config file: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg"
    dvips output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/dvips/updmap"
    pdftex output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap"
    dvipdfm output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/dvipdfm/updmap"
    pxdvi output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/pxdvi/updmap"
    /usr/bin/updmap is creating new map files
    using the following configuration:
    LW35 font names : URWkb
    prefer outlines : true
    texhash enabled : true
    download standard fonts (dvips) : true
    download standard fonts (pdftex) : true
    create a mapfile for pxdvi : false

    Scanning for Map entries [129 files]
    ERROR: The following map file(s) couldn't be found:
    ntx.map
    Did you run mktexlsr?
    You can delete non-existent map entries using the option
    --syncwithtrees.
    That's my problem: it can't find ntx.map, although I ran mktexlsr (which is texhash). So what to do?
    1: http://www.ctan.org/pkg/newtx
    2: http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/mirrors/CTAN … wtx/README
    SOLUTION: The trick consists in placing all files into the necessary folders: *.map goes to fonts/map/newtx/, *.vf to fonts/vf/newtx/, and *.tfm to fonts/tfm/newtx/. Also, *.pfb needs to be placed in fonts/pfb/newtx/. *.enc files go to fonts/enc/newt/, and everything else remains in tex/latex/newtx/.

    ConnorBehan wrote:Oh it's part of the mlocate package. It will search your entire filesystem for a filename but there are other programs that do the same. I just meant, can you find ntx.map yourself? If so, you could put it in a new directory or let tex know with the TEXINPUTS environment variable.
    I really don't think that this makes a lot of sense as regards TeXlive; I have checked (with kpsewhich --var-value) if indeed all variables TEXMFHOME, TEXMFVAR, and TEXMFCONFIG are pointing to reasonable places, and indeed they do.
    I have found this guide:
    http://people.debian.org/~preining/TeX/ … n/ch4.html
    Although it is Debian, I figure one can easily adapt it. So I tried that, and placed ntx.map in TEXMFHOME/fonts/map/$SYNTAX/newtx/ntx.map . I wasn't sure about $SYNTAX, so I just tried it with dvips. This time, $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map did actually work, and there were not errors:
    $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map
    copy /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg => /home/janis/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg

    If you have Firebug installed in FF, you will notice the following timeline (or part thereof)
    You will notice that there are a few files that cannot be found, but still take up time.
    You could also try replacing each of the  the Spry regions (per panel) to just one spry region for the whole Accordion as
    <div class="AccordionPanel">
        <div class="AccordionPanelTab"><h4>2011</h4></div>
        <div class="AccordionPanelContent" spry:region="ds1">
            <div spry:repeat="ds1" spry:setrow="ds1" spry:hover="MasterColumnHover" spry:select="MasterColumnSelected" spry:test="'{@data}'.search(2011)!= -1;"><h2><a href="#news">{ds1::@nome}</a></h2>
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>
    and
    <div id="Accordion1" class="Accordion" tabindex="0" spry:region="ds1">

  • How to Move the Shared Services Registry to a different SQL Server

    I have an Essbase installation purely running Essbase and Financial Reporting/Web Analysis.
    The Shared Services database is held in SQL Server 2005 on one hardware platform and I need to move it to an alternative hardware platform also running SQL 2005.
    I thought it might be as easy as backing up from one server and restoring to the other and then running EPM System Configurator.
    Firstly, when running configurator and selecting the Hyperion Foundation Configure Database option, on the 'Shared Services and Registry Database Configuration' screen the details of the original hardware are displayed, clicking 'Next' gets no response.
    If I can resolve this first issue, how do I then re-point the database to the new server?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi John
    Took a look at the link thanks.
    On point 3 it says to stop the original database. If you take the database offline, in configurator you don't then get the options in option 5!
    In the dos command window for configurator I get 'Unknown Source' messages (either using current server or new).
    configtool.log lists as follows. Does this point to anything?
    Thanks.

  • AutoVue Web Services - DMS Args

    I am attempting to use AutoVue web services.
    I have this installed and setup to the point I have a java test client that consumes the ping method fine and returns what is expected.
    When I try to perform the convert functionality the web service hits our java servlet when trying to get at a document in Livelink DMS but the configured dms arguments from the third_party_int.properties are not being sent through and I cannot see why?
    I presume the fact it actually hits our servlet means it can see the DMS option in the config that has the URL in the .properties file but the rest don't seem to be picked up and sent?
    In the java debugger the dms args object is null so I am hoping I have missed something ... Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
    Nick

    Thanks Reza.
    I tried what you suggested and I still do not get the missing property in the XML.
    After restoring the vuelinkLL.properties file I see the following in the log file if this helps:
