Testing Flash Sites

I'm finishing up my first flash site... Is it necessary to
test it from every browser/platform imaginable, or is a flash file
self-contained & consistent from computer to computer (assuming
the computers have the flash plugin & javascripting enabled)?
Thanks!

normaly the if the flash plugin version is the same the
website should act quite the same on every platform and browser.
There is one thing to watch is if you use fscommand or
getUrl...
but other than this it souhld be ok

  • Any test web sites to insure browser/Flash player/other is adequate for all Captivate content

My prior subject header was a little confusing, so I hope it's okay I start over again and state more clearly what I need.
I have hundreds of users accessing Adobe Captivate 5.5 training.  Many users have no trouble viewing the content.  SOME users have trouble, specifically when viewing a video inserted into the training.  It just won't play for them.  These users have different browsers, so it would seem the type of browser is not an issue.
What I am hoping for is ...
a web site that lets users know they have everything needed to run any content within a Captivate session.  For example, as you know, Adobe has a web site to inform the user what version of Flash Player they have (if any).  I would be great to have a site that would let the user know if they meet the minimum requirements (not just Flash Player) to participate successfully in a training.
Is anyone aware of such a site?  Or have ideas on how to build one?
Thank you, and I'm sorry for not being clearer on the prior post.
    Best regards,
    Mark

Captivate outputs (generally) as Flash. So as long as users have a recent version of the Flash player, they should technically be able to play back the content.
However, of course, online delivery depends on the user's internet connection. What if you're feeding them video and their connection is slow?
For similar concerns, we point our users to speedtest.net and ask them to post their results. Sometimes that helps illustrate their slow connection means a slow video delivery.
And, of course, the older the computer, the less-fast it'll be in rendering the course. My oldest computer, used occasionally and with frustration by my 5 y/old, plays Flash sites horribly - and it's a 1.6ghz computer with 512mb RAM and XP...with latest browsers and Flash player. You can always ask for their computer spec, but that's not an easy thing to determine via software/website.
So you can create a simple 'minimum requirements' page that you can point to...but one that actually does a diagnostic...well, aside from simple Flash player/version detection (which is fairly simple), that's a complex task.

  • Error message when loading FLASH site in ie on PC (swfobject)

Hello...I sudes "swfobject" to embed my Flash site, and have also alt. XHTML content representing the site for non-Flash users and for SEO purposes. Everything loads and wroks just fine from the MAC, but some users (on IE, with PC), are getting the fllowing error message:
    Line (Zeile):5
    item (Zeichen): 9157
    Error (Fehler): expecting function
    Code: 0
    URL: www.foxolutions.de
I have included the german words in parentheses (they are viewing the site from there and are getting the message in German).
My question: does this message refer to my code in FLASH? Or is there something in the XHTML that I messed up? Please let me know....thanks - your input is greatly appreciated!
    Claudia

    I had a quick look at your code and found;
The issue happens on page load and is not confined to the button.
When I copy| paste the page code into my browser I can load it without errors… this suggests a script error of some kind.
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/where-to-buy.css?459606632" id="pagesheet"/>

This comment is suspicious but I can't see that style sheet to test it… did you comment it out to test a font and forget to put it back?

  • Accessing a Flash site via safari

This question sounds like a Flash/ActionScript question, but it's really a Safari question, so please bare with me.
Hello, I am creating a website for an artist and she complains that nothing works. Mainly the embedded links (URLs). I tested the site in MSEI7 and the links work fine (but NOT in Firefox 2). I don't have a MacBook, and the one she has she says is pretty old, and doesn't know the version of Safari. The issue is that before the links worked fine, but then when I re-published the Flash SWF file the links wouldn't work on her Mac, but on Windows.
My question is can anyone here please go to the site and tell me if you can navigate the links and if they activate? The links are *butterflybaby LA*, edenSTD, blog, *click here for my est*y, and when you click *peep my gallery* you'll see two buttons for URL links to the gallery.
If anyone has ever built a Flash site for the Mac can you help me to figure out why in some cases the links work on the Mac but not Windows and vice versa. This is ******* me off. I'm asking here and not a Flash dev site because I want inout from people who use the same computer she does. And from I can tell Windows users use Flash and mac users use QuickTime. The ActionScript is basic URL embedding, nothing fancy. I used a combination of gotoURL("http://www.domain.com");, then gotoURL("http://www.domain.com", "_self");, gotoURL("http://www.domain.com", _parent");, and gotoURL("http://www.domain.com", "_blank");. All with mixed resluts, but none would work on BOTH Mac and Windows (and on Windows not BOTH Firefox and MSIE). Again I knwo this is a question for Flash/ActionScript, but I have a great feeling that it may Safari is having issues.
    Thanks
    Paul
BTW - I'm using Macromedia (Not Adobe) Flash Professional 8.0.

Stupid! I forgot the LINK! http(colon)//www(dot)butterflybaby-la(dot)com
I did that because many of these corporate owned forums now-a-days are weird about links.
    thanks

  • Safari will not display flash sites

safari will not display flash sites?  Instead it will show a small box that says "flash" and once you click on it, it then displays the flash site!!
Any ideas as to why this is happening?
    I am running .....
    Vendor: Oracle Corporation
Version: Java SE 7 Update 25
    and
    Flash Player: 11.8.800.94

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

  • Some Flash Sites are not displayed with Flash Player 9

    Hello everyone,
After having upgraded to Flash Player 9 I cannot view some
flash sites on either FF or IE.
I have checked around with other users also and they cannot
    see them either.
Although the page seems to be loading with title etc. it
remains blank or it shows a blank block where it is supposed to be
    the flash movie.
The problem is that it only happens to dynamic flash sites
that load text and images from external documents.
With Flash Player 8 they worked just fine.
The problem is that it is our company's page so we want to
have it up and running for everybody.
You can check the page here:
    http://www.ideaspot.gr
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance

there should be no need to do anything with converting to Adobe

When a customer's business website goes down after installing
Flash Player 9 he just wants the site back up. First I had to
    figure
out that they installed the Flash 9 player and then I had to
go to the Swish site to find out that Swish files won't run right
    on
the Flash 9 player unless they get patched first. After
running the downloaded patch on all the swfs on the site (yes
    uploaded
correct files and cleared the cache) there were still odd
things happening. I didn't have time to analyze why this was so, I
    just
had to put the site back up and fast. Now that I have that
site back up (I have others that will need fixing too, no doubt), I
will go back and test everything again with Swish.
There are a whole lot of hours being lost over this
Swish/Flash9 player issue. Regardless of who's fault it is, there
    are many
    Flash sites down now.

  • Linking pages for a flash site

I am very new to flash but have been using dream weaver for a
while. I assumed they would be almost the same or at the least have
a lot of the same basic web functions being they are from the same
company but I have found that sadly such is not the case.
In dreamweaver when you have turned text or image into a
button you are given the ability to simply navigate to the folder
where the other web pages are stored. those locations are copied
into your web server when you upload. You also have the ability to
test the site and make sure that when you click on a button you are
taken to where you intend the link to go.
In flash however I have not been able to find such a
function so that when I make an image or text linkable I can
navigate to the proper page. Is there a way to do this that I have
not as yet found or is what I assume the case? That everything link
wise must be done in action script?
I have found many examples of the OnReleace get Url code but
when I try and plug that into my "linkable" and then test it, it
does not work. When I type in the folder path like
"c:\folder\folder\filename" after the geturl it either does nothing
or I get the inevitble action script error message.
This can not be this hard. Can someone help make any since
    of this at all?

Why would you assume Dreamweaver and Flash would be the same?
Two totally different concepts here. Make your button symbol, click
it once when it is on stage, in the properties panel, lower left
hand side where it says <instance name>, click there and type
in, my_btn. Click the frame that the button resides on and open the
actions panel, make sure it says "Actions-Frame" in the upper left
    hand corner. Paste this:
    my_btn.onRelease = function(){
    getURL("someFileName.html");

  • Need help getting Flash site running after pointed to new nameservers

Can't get Gaia site working on a new server
    « on: Today at 03:10:35 PM »
    Quote Modify Remove
Hi.  I recently switched from 1&1 shared hosting to a new webhost, Holistic.
My Flash site (based on the Gaia framework) doesn't work now.
Using the Flashplayer Debugger, I got the following error:
    from Main:  view.scaleX = 0.9041666666666667 and view.scaleY = 1.0129032258064516
    from Main:  view.x = 0 and view.y = 0
Error: Failed to load policy file from xmlsocket://127.0.0.1:5800
Error: Request for resource at xmlsocket://127.0.0.1:5800 by requestor from http://www.yourgods.com/bin/main.swf has failed because the server cannot be reached.
    *** Security Sandbox Violation ***
Connection to 127.0.0.1:5800 halted - not permitted from http://www.yourgods.com/bin/main.swf
Error: Request for resource at xmlsocket://127.0.0.1:5800 by requestor from http://www.yourgods.com/bin/main.swf has failed because the server cannot be reached.
Also got this note even though I've set allowscriptaccess to always in my index.html:
Warning: AllowScriptAccess='never' found in HTML.  This setting is ineffective and deprecated.  See http://www.adobe.com/go/allowscriptaccess for details.
Warning: 'com' has no property 'onEnterFrame'
Regarding the Security Sandbox violation, my old webhost was 1&1, and they are still the official Registrar of YourGods.com - but I now have YourGods.com pointed at the DomainNameServers for my new host, Holistic, which specializes in Drupal and has no experience with Flash - so I hope you'll bear with me and offer what guidance you can since they said I was basically on my own for troubleshooting any Flash related problems.
Is that likely to be the source of my problem (that I'm only 'pointing' to the nameservers and have only 'parked' my domain with the new host instead of transferring it completely?
And if so, do I just need to create a cross domain policy xml file like the one below and leave it on my Old Webhost?
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
        <cross-domain-policy>
        <allow-access-from domain="MyNewDedicatedIPAddressHere" />
        </cross-domain-policy>
I've never dealt with this cross domain stuff before so any help would be much appreciated.

As a test, I uploaded my Flash/Gaia site into an existing site on my old host.  And although the site actually works in this setting, when I run things in the FlashPlayerDebugger, I'm still getting Security Sandbox Violations - so (as adninjastrator suggested in earlier post), this may have nothing to do with the DNS changes - but perhaps with my setting things up wrong somewhere so that the Flashplayer is trying to access my local computer - maybe??
    Debugger logs gives me this:
Error: Failed to load policy file from xmlsocket://127.0.0.1:5800
Error: Request for resource at xmlsocket://127.0.0.1:5800 by requestor from http://recreationofthegods.com/bin/main.swf has failed because the server cannot be reached.
    *** Security Sandbox Violation ***
So, I've now uploaded the identical bin (which contains all the files for my site) - but I'm getting different behaviors on the two hosts.
On the new holistic servers, the site won't go past the first page:  www.yourgods.com
On the 1&1 servers, I still get runtime errors in FlashPlayerDebugger - but the site runs ok - http://www.RecreationOfTheGods.com/bin/index.html
Posting those links in hopes someone with more experience in these sandbox issues can help steer me in the right direction.

  • Flash Site

    Hi,
I am new to the designing world
I have created a flash site wich is in one movieclip, I
tested my flash movie and it seems to work fine in flash and
dreamweaver. When i upload my site, it is slow. I am wondering how
to make it faster, is it maybe something i am doing in dreamweaver?
    Thank you

Depending on the amount of info you have in your movie (I.e.
    Animations and
music), the slowness may be because the file is still
    downloading as it is
    playing.
As ARCALUZ suggested I would try using the bandwidth profiler
    to get a
better idea on where the "slowness" is coming from. Another
    thing that I
would suggest is using a pre-loader script that checks to
    ensure the entire
movie is loaded prior to playing.

  • Remote and Testing Server Site Definitions

I am confused about what information I should put in my
remote site definition info and testing server FTC Host directory
text boxes. My host placed 3 directories: database, log, and www on
my server and Dreamweaver placed two directories, Connections and
_mmServerScripts in the same directory as the above 3. I have
placed all of my site files, including my home page and folders in
the www directory and my Access database in the database directory.
Dreamweaver placed the connection info in the Connections folder an
d _mmServerScripts in the same directory.
In order to construct my local site to match the remote site,
I created a www folder on my local site and placed all of my HTML
files and supporting folders in it.
From various Adobe Tech Notes I have read, I was led to
    believe my FTP host directory
Should be www/. However, when I do this and create a new web
page on my local site and upload it to my remote site, Dreamweaver
creates a new www directory inside of the one my host created on
the remote site and uploads the file to it instead of placing it in
the www directory my host created. Also, when I use F12 to test my
page in my browser I get a 404 page not found because Dreamweaver
placed a www in the page URL that shouldn’t be there and
after I remove it I’m able to see my page in my browser. My
URL prefix on my testing server site definition is:
    http://I.P.number.html.
What am I not doing right?
Should I use www/ as my FTP host directory or leave it blank?
Also, what should my URL prefix be?
    Thanks for your help.

What you need to do is set up so that in the remote server
    you point to the
www level on the server, and don't replicate this locally.

    tlcarl,
    > I know most people probably view at 1024 x 768.
You think so? Even if they have their resolution that high
    (which is
fairly standard, nowadays), do you think most people maximize
    their browsers
    to fill that whole area?
    > Is there anyway to auto resize based up on screen

There is, indeed. :) Check out the Stage.onResize event in
    the
ActionScript 2.0 Language Reference. That event is dispatched
    when the
browser (or whatever container) is resized -- in cases where
    the SWF is
embedded with percentages. If that's your aim, you'll need to
    code against
that event, which can be done like this ...
    http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/how-to-position-movie-clips-browser-resizing
It can take a bit of thought, depending on the complexity of
    your goal,
but the result is usually worth it. The site in your URL is
    already built,
so this wouldn't do much of anything without opening the
    hood, so to speak,
and completely rebuilding the engine. A Flash movie has to be
    designed and
programmed to respond to the Stage.onResize event.
