Testing Question In Question Pool

Captivate v5.5
I am creating a project with 40 questions in a single question pool and with 10 random question slides in the project.
I want to check each question prior to publishing but it seems you cannt check how each of the the question slides runs, looks and works from within the question pool (or can you ?)
As I only have 10 random questions in the project, if I run the project to check the questions this way, I have no way of checking all 40 questions as I only see 10 from 40.
How can I check all 40 questions in the question pool ?

Would be a "nice to have" feature if you could run and check the question in the pool rather than moving them to the project and then back into the pool...but maybe that is a feature of v6?

How can I get Captivate to score across multiple question pools?

I have set up a Captivate assessment as follows:
A core set of 50 questions will be presented to all learners
Depending on where the learner is, he will receive an additional 10 questions from one of 5 location-specific pools
Learners will see a total of 60 questions
I have my question pools set up and branching correctly, and am using the Branch Aware option to assist with this and the progress indicator. Before the first question I have the learner click one of several buttons (not quiz elements) to set a location variable, and after presenting the core questions I use this variable to determine which random question slide to jump to next (with set of slides pointing to a different question pool). After asking the 10 random questions from that pool the learner is then redirected to the review slide so only one set of location-specific slides is encoutnered on each attempt.
All of that seems to be working as designed but the scoring is not behaving as I had expected; despite the fact that all questions are asked before the review slide is presented (i.e. all questions are within the quiz scope in both the edit-time and run-time sense) the review slide only reports results from the first question pool. For example, in a test file I reduced the question slides for the first pool to only display 2 questions, for a total of 12 presented, but my results show "0 of 2 correct" or "2 of 2 correct." The pass/fail results of the module match the review slide, so this is not a simple display issue; if I miss either of the two questions from the first pool I fail regardless of what happens in the second pool.
What am I missing? Surely there wouldn't be the option of using multiple question pools if only one could be graded ...
I am working on Captivate 6.0.1 64-bit for Windows. FWIW the file was originally created in Captivate 5 and has since been upconverted, but the additional question pools weren't introduced until after the conversion processes so I wouldn't expect this to be related to residual crud left over from that process.

I had already tried deleting the review slide itself, though Captivate wouldn't let me - it just hid it. I tried again using the method you recommended but the slide remained in the filmstrip, so I tried deleting again, then re-added it from the Quiz Settings page ... no joy, same behavior as before.
I checked the Advanced Interaction page and confirmed that all of the scored questions were configuredthe same way as the non-scored questions, with the only difference being the pool that they were drawing from.
Other thoughts? I am by no means a Captivate expert but this one really feels like it shouldn't be this hard, and I'm more than a little afraid that it's the file itself that's jacked up ...

How to make a question pool with MANY questions?

I would like to make a question pool
with several thousand questions, which I currently have in an
Excel file. Is there a way around having manually to enter all
questions in a Captivate question pool?

I would use the XML function from Captivate 4.
- Make yourself a test quiz with two slides, one being a multiple choice.
- Export it to XML
- Open the XML File in Excel
Good point to start with is ns1:g and ns1:Source26.
Most likely you can get all your question into captivate that way.

Quiz slide not advance when using question pools and advance answer options?

Hi,
I am using CP 5.5. I created a small test where I have just 2 question in a question pool. The questions are using the advanced answer options to show some specific feedback. When I insert the questions in to the project using a random question slide, after the user answers where you should be able to press Y or click to move on, I click, but nothing happens. You can't get off the quiz slide. The quiz slides work fine when they are inserted in the project as reqular quiz slides, but not when they are being pulled from a question pool.
Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround? Anyone else run in to this?

I was having the same problem on the last Random Question slide (total 10 RQ slides), and was able to fix it by following the next steps:
Make sure Quiz: Pass or Fail actions are set to Continue for both Passing and Failing actions in the quiz preferences.
Delete the RQ slide not advancing, then duplicate one of the RQ slides working, and assign your question pool to the new slide if different from the original duplicate. This step will make sure you are using a good working RQ slide.
For some reason, my last RQ slide was corrupted and wasn't advancing to the Score slide at the end of the quiz.
I can finally finish this project.

Random test questions quiz results not working

I have a project with random test questions. It's published in HTML5...Each time I play the project in preview, the test results are accurate and correct at the end...However after I have published the project to my site, all the random test questions are NOT accurately scored in at the end of the quiz...It's tells me basically I got all the questions wrong, when in fact the on each questions my display is clearly stating it's correct.
If I move the question out of the random test questions and back into the main project...it is scored correctly, but once it's back in the "pools" area, it is scored incorrectly in the final tally as a random test question...Don't have a clue why this is...it's really been time consuming trying to fix it...and my fortune so far fixing anything to do with Captivate is really low! Buggy! I'm using Captivate 8, so have no idea...
Anyone have any idea what is going on?

So obvious I don't know why I didn't think of that. LOL

It would appear that the only way to adjust the pause is to add time to the
slide as I am unable to slide the pause back. But changing the slide of 3
secs to 3.1 does work.
Is there an easy way to do this for ALL slides or do I just have to do it
one by one.

Transition for Question Pool Slides

Captivate v5.5
I have a question pool of 20 slides with 5 random slides in the main project.
I have applied "Blinds" as a transition option to all 20 slides in the question pool.
When I test the questions (F8 starting on the slide before the first random question slide), the transitions do not work.
Any idea?

I previewed the whole project (F4) and still the transition did not work.
Having to publish it (eg to .exe I presume you mean) before I can check the slide transition seems a little long winded - but I will give it a go just in case.

How to review all questions in a question pool ?

Captivate v4
I have created projects each with a question pool of approx 15 questions from which 5 random questions with answers shuffled will be drawn at the end of the project.
I find that creating questions in v4 is very hit and miss and the formatting and alignment of shuffled questions cannt be trusted - so I need to review each slide in full "project" view - to make sure everything looks as it should before I upload it to our LMS.
Is there anyway I can just review just my questions slides (in full project view) without having to start at the beginning of the project ?
The F10 option does not work when the Question Pool is open...so any other ideas.
If I do go thru' the whole project - of course I only see 5 of the 15 questions - as that is how I have got the Question Pool set up. So that is no help.

Just in case anyone is interested.
The way I resolved this was to insert the same number of random question slides as there are questions in the question pool and then run the project.
As a result you get to see (and test) every slide in the question pool.
Once done - I reduced the number of random question slides to the required amount.
Not sure if this is the best way - but it worked for me.

Grabbing Random Questions for the Question Pool

Hi Everyone,
I am interested in exactly how the Random Question Pool
works. Let's say there are 50 questions in the question pool and
you want 10 questions from that question pool of 50. When you
publish I understand you will get 10 random questions from the 50
questions. Then when you run your published project are you always
going to get the same 10 questions or another 10 of the 50 pooled
questions everytime your run that same published project? Or do you
have to publish again, calling the quiz another name to get another
10 of 50 questions from the question pool? I appreciate the help on
this.

It is my understanding that each time you
display the Captivate output, you see a totally random
question. So if your question pool contains 50 questions, each time
your Captivate output presents the random question and draws from
the pool, it is truly drawing a totally random question.
I do believe that Captivate does keep track of which
questions have been used in the pool. To test this, try creating a
pool containing three questions. Then create four random question
slides that point at the pool. Then try running the Captivate. You
should see that as random question number four is encountered, the
screen goes totally gray. This is happening because you have
exhausted the question pool.

Captivate Crashes When Editing Question Pool

Captivate v5.5
I have a project with 36 questions in a question pool.
I need to edit some the these QP questions but as soon as I start doing this I get the message that Captivate has encountered an error...very sorry...and must close down. I have tried it three times and it does it every time.
I have edited QP questions many times before without this problem.
I am not working via company network but I have just moved locations from one part of my office to another, in case this means anything.
Can anyone offer any suggestions. I am happy to provide any more details if required.

Hi Noel,
Can you let me know if the current location of your project is on any server or network?
Also, Launch Captivate beofre editing the Project, go to Edit --Preferences -- General-- Check the Option to Generate Project Backup.
Do one more test, create another project adn impor the Question pool of this project there -- File--Import --Question pool.
Try editing it fisrt in this dummy project, if it allows, try again on the main project.
If it still crashes, try copying all your slides excluding Quiz Result Slide to this project.

Question pools

We have just started testing Captivate and one of the questions I've gotten is on question pool. If we have a project/SCO that when it is packaged with one group of SCOs requires the student to take a quiz and pass at a certain level this same project/SCO also gets packaged with another group of SCOs to make another course where the student just has to view the content. Is it best to have a separate section that has the questions or to imbed the questions in the SCO.
Rereading this it sounds convuluted but I'm hoping someone will understand what I mean.

Question Pools are designed to be used with Random Question
Slides. Basically it works like this.
Define a pool.
Add questions to the pool. In your case, you have defined 4
questions.
Now in your project, you click Quiz > Random Question
Slide to insert a Random Question.
Point the slide at the pool.
Repeat by inserting a second Random Question Slide.
Now you should have a project that presents two different
questions from the pool.

Pre and Post test Questions

I have a project that requires a pre-test, post-test and
knowledge reviews throughout the course. I have created 10 question
slides (I did not use question pools). I am having two issues occur
within the course. First I do not want to track or score the
pre-test questions or the questions embedded within the course what
I will refer to as Knowledge reviews.
I do want the user to go through and receive feedback on each
question answered incorrectly but I do not want a score to be
collected/tracked or tallied as part of the sum total for the
course. The post-test questions need to be the only tracked/scored
questions with that value being submitted to the LMS.
Currently all the questions are being tallied in the course.
(i.e test results show 30 questions with a score when there should
only be 10). What is the best way to include mutiple questions
within my course (as pre-test and Knowledge reviews) but not have a
score tracked until the user takes a post test.
To correct this should I change the pre-test and knowledge
reviews to a survey type question? Or should I leave the question
as graded but set the point value to 0. I inially left the pre-test
and knowldge reviews as graded questions but I deselected Report
Answers under the reporting tab thinking this would prevent the
passing of a score, which is not the case.
If anyone can offer some advice or point me to some
documentaiton that discusses this I would greatly appreciate any
help.
The second issue I have is with the progress indicator within
the course. Is there a way to revmove this from the quesiton pages.
My client does not want to see this indicator. The current work
around I am using is to reduce the font size of the indicator to
5pt, setting the font color to match my background and then
positioning the indicator in a set loation on the page. While this
workaround works I would like to remove it in total if possible.

The first part sounds very weird. I just made a project which
included knowledge checks in the middle of the course and they are
not tracked in the final test. I used Graded questions in my course
and I initially set the score per question to 0 points. After I
found out that they were counted in the question total I removed
the reporting for each of the questions. Now the points are not
being counted and also the questions are not being counted in the
final assesment - I just have the 6 questions out of 6 in the
post-test even though I have 4 knowledge checks inside the course
it self.
Try and click F9 to open up the advanced interaction panel
and make sure that the answers are not being reported. I know it's
obvious, but sometimes Captivate does some weird things.
As for your second question regarding the progress indicator
you can remove that by going to Quiz - Quiz Preferences - Settings
and then unchecking the box "Show Progress".

Use question pool with multi-part questions?

Is it possible to use the question pool in Captivate 5 for a quiz with multi-part questions? I'd like to have a question selected from a pool, but after the learner answers the first part, they get a second question that is based on the first part.
They get a question: "Is this heart sound dangerous or safe?" Then, after answering that, they'd get the question "What is the diagnosis?" for the same sound. The first question comes from a specified pool, but the second question is based on the first question. Then, they'd go on to a new pool question.

Import test questions?

Hi everyone,
We have a situation coming up where we might need to create a test with 65 questions drawn from a pool of 1000 questions.
We obviously want to avoid having to enter 1000 question manually.
Is there a way to import a group of test questions, or are we going to have to hire a temp to do data entry for a week or so?

I have downloaded some IMS examples (dtd files) and I am trying to import a dtd file when I create a test in eLearning, but I am getting this Error : java.lang.NullPointerException.
Do you have any idea about it?

Resolution of question pools

I have created a pool of question from which I want to add
random questions to a few different presentations but when I import
the question pool and then add a random slide to the project the
question is cut off by the size of the project. I think I was in a
project that was 1024x768 when I created the questions but when I
add the questions to a project that is 640x480 the question get cut
off. I just thought the text would wrap and the answers would just
move down but this is not happening.
If anyone has any suggestions how I can get round this
without having to enter in all the questions again

Have you tried opening just one of the questions for editing
in the smaller project?
Sometimes that is all that is needed with some applications.
You may find that the elements pop into the viewable area if you do
that.
Then again, it may make no difference whatsoever. Nothing
should be lost by trying to see.

Test questions for cerfitication on SBO2007

i am a sbo consultant and have about 2 years experience. I am currently studying the E-learning curriculum with view to the get the certification as a SBO 2007 implementation consultant. There are some self-test questions available with the curriculum, but it would be better if there were more.
any info on how get more test exam questions would be greatly appreciated.

Please go through the first book and third book ( ie. Logistics & Implementation ) . Why i am saying is you have some direct questions. when you go into the accounts book there wont be direct question. all the questions are based on business scenario.
But my advice is to get learn all have knowledge in all the books, do the test well my best wishes to get success for you online examination.
