TestStand child windows not in focus

I'm using the full featured User Interface TestExec.exe to run my test stand sequence file. In the file there is a step to prompt the operator. This prompt is showing up behind the TestExec window. This used to happen everyonce in awhile, but lately I would say out of 13 executions the prompt is behind the TestExec windows 11 times.  When this happens the only way I can bring focus to the prompt is to click it in the windows bar at the bottom of the screen.
What would cause the prompt to pop-up behind the TestExec window?

If you are using TestStands message pop up step, you can edit this behavior by making it floating or modal.
Here is how TestStand defines them in thier help:
Dialog Options–Specifies miscellaneous options for the dialog
box.
Make Floating–Specifies whether the dialog box stays on top
of the TestStand application. You can interact with the main application window
while the dialog box is visible.
Make Modal–Specifies whether the dialog box is modal to the
TestStand application. You cannot interact with the main application window
until the dialog box is dismissed.
Here is a picture of where you would edit the dialog.

  • Windows not gaining focus...

    Hello!
    After recent update (I can't recall having this issue before) windows that previously had focus, but lost it after I opened a new window, do not gain focus after I close the new window. This is very irritating, because now I have to click on the old window all the time, even though it is the top window, to give commands to it.
    The same thing happens also when switching spaces - if I have a window with focus in one space, quickly switch to another to check something (without clicking anywhere) and then go back to the first one, I have to click in the window otherwise I can't write or send commands to it. Even though the cursor is in the window and blinking as if it had focus (if it is an input field).
    A concrete example:
    I am writing this text in Firefox in a textbox on a webpage. I switch spaces forth and back. The cursor is still in the textbox and blinking, but whatever I press nothing happens. Firefox is still the active application (it has the menubar).
    I've tried searching, but wasn't lucky to find anything, is it just me?
    BR,
    stormmind

    It work well in my system. Either on appletview and browser.

  • Firefox-3.0.1-2 child windows not working [SOLVED]

    Hi everyone!
    After last upgrade to firefox-3.0.1-2 every time i tried to open a child window (i.e clicking on Edit/Preferences or Help/About) the new window opens minimized and with no content.
    Is anybody experiencing the same problem?

    It is working fine here too. Are you sure you don't have any firefox or other xulrunner applications still running that you did not restart after the upgrade?

  • [OpenBox] Window not getting focus if skip_taskbar is set to 'yes'

    I have bound gmrun to ALT-F2. When I have skip_taskbar set to yes in rc.xml, gmrun does not get focus. This is quite annoying as I have manually click on it to get the focus.
    <application name="gmrun">
    <position>
    <x>center</x>
    <y>center</y>
    </position>
    <focus>yes</focus>
    <layer>above</layer>
    <skip_taskbar>yes</skip_taskbar>
    </application>
    If, however, I remove skip_taskbar as shown below, gmrun get its focus when launched.
    <application name="gmrun">
    <position>
    <x>center</x>
    <y>center</y>
    </position>
    <focus>yes</focus>

    I have the same problem, but, and this part is really bad, I also mostly don't have this issue.
    So I can't help except to say I run OB 3.4.7.2 and [sometimes!] have the same issue as you.

  • How to keep playing when Premiere window not on focus?

    I make home movies in Premiere, which means putting together a lot of spontaneous clips.
    Because of that, I must censor them on the editing table so that no disgusting, gossipy or insulting comment gets burned to a disc and sent to my relatives.
    Adobe Premiere stops playing as soon as any other window gains focus, which means that I am forced to watch the entire project (2 hours) even though I only want to listen to it, perhaps whilst I could be browsing the web, chatting, etc.
    Is there a way I can force Premiere to play the project while being in the background?
    Thank you.
    P.S. The same thing happens with Encore.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    disgusting, gossipy or insulting comment
    No wonder Premiere stops.
    Make sure your machine is up to date with all the latest drivers.

  • Safari Beta 4 child window focus problem

    It seems that Safari/Windows Beta 4 does not properly focus a child window. In my case, I'm using Javascript to directly intercept keystrokes. If a new page is opened in the same window, the keyboard works just fine. If it's opened in a child window, the keyboard is ignored until the window is manually focused (mouse click). This behaviour is unique to Safari on Windows. On the Mac, it's fine. On all other browsers and operating systems, it's fine.
    You can see an example at http://sentientdata.com/focustest/kbug_demo.html .

    Sounds like it might be a question of the Developer forum? Or a some other forum on web design? This is a user-to-user tech support forum.
    Best of luck.

    When I left-click on a tab in Firefox 4 rc 2 after my pc wakes up from suspend in Windows 7 64-bit the tab is not getting focus. I have to use the hotkeys in order to move to that tab. My mouse works fine in other programs.

  • CS4: window does not regain focus

    This happens using Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows 7 RC.
    (Untested on Windows XP, Vista.)
    Does not appear to be an issue with Photoshop CS4.
    If DW is in focus and you click on another program's taskbar icon twice it does not re-focus the DW window, which was previously in focus.
    For example:
    I have Dreamweaver open and in-focus (I can type)
    then I click the Firefox icon in the taskbar (Superbar) to preview what I just uploaded (F5)
    then I click the Firefox icon again (my cursor is still there) to minimize it and return to Dreamweaver
    then I start typing.... but the Dreamweaver window is not in focus, even though it is visible and in front
    This works in XP with Photoshop CS2.
    This is not a Windows 7 problem because other programs don't have this problem.
    This is just a minor annoyance, but can anyone else relate to this or is it just me?
    Thanks!

    I see this as a condition common to many applications by many companies...
    First you get the program's attention. (by clicking on it somewhere)
    Then you start typing in it.
    Think of the mess we would be in if you could simply hover your cursor and start typing without clicking...you could wreak havoc without even knowing where your typing is going...wait, that might be a good idea... (not the havoc...)

  • WebHelp - With help window open, second application click does not bring help window back into focus

    Hello all,
    Using RH11 to create context sensitive WebHelp for use with apigee-to-go console.
    Console allows URL calls to launch help in a new browser window (named within the help project).  Works fine except that the browser help window does not regain focus when subsequent context calls are made from the application.
    Steps:
    With application running in a browser window, I click a help link.  New browser window opens with correct help topic displayed.
    Return to application without closing help window.  Application window takes focus; help window moves to back.
    I click another help link. Help window does not regain focus.  However, it DOES move to the correct topic.
    I've tried lots of things.  Nothing seems to fix this.
    For reference, my context call looks like this:
    http://<URL>/index.htm#<id=37>>wnd=HelpPopup
    Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
    Jeff Seltzer

    Thanks for the responses, but this doesn't really help.
    I'm using a simple URL to make the call.
    (That's all I can do within the web app API console I'm working with.)
    If I knew how to crack open all of the javascript that RH creates (and had that much time to work on it), I'd try to address it.
    I have to give up for now.
    I've just appended >>newwnd=false to the end of my calls, so the help appears in another browser tab, rather than its own window.
    This isn't great, since each call opens a new tab, but that's better than the help window disappearing behind the sea of open windows most of us have going on, only to cause the user to hunt for it (if they even know it's there).
    So, <URL>/index.htm#<id=37>>wnd=HelpPopup
    becomes <URL>/index.htm#<id=37>>wnd=HelpPopup>>newwnd=false
    Thanks all for your pointers.
    If I ever find the time to really work on this issue, I'll post a fix (if there is one).
    (Again, I suspect this is just buggy RH javascript.  RH knows enough to update the contents of the help/browser window, but not enough to focus it.)
    Best,
    Jeff Seltzer

  • Calling a Function in the Parent Window from the Child Window

    QUESTION: How do I call a function resident in the parent
    window from a child window?
    BACKGROUND
    I have a JavaScript function resident in the parent window
    that reformats information obtained from the Date object and writes
    the result to the parent window using the document.write( ) method.
    I would like to call this function from the child window and have
    it write to the child window instead. Is this possible? If not,
    must I rewrite the entire function and nest it in the below code?
    If so, what is the proper form of nesting?
    CODE: The code that creates and fills the child window is
    provided below. The highlighted area indicates where I would like
    to enter the information from the function resident in the parent
    window. I have tried every imaginable permutation of code that I
    can imagine and nearly destroyed my parent document in the process.
    I am very happy that I had a back-up copy!
    function openCitationWindow() {
    ciDow = window.open("", "", "width=450, height=175, top=300,
    left=300");
    ciDow.document.write("A proper way to cite a passage of text
    on this page:<br /><br />Stegemann, R. A. 2000.
    <cite>Imagine: Bridging a Historical Gap</cite>. " +
    document.title + ". [<a href='" + location.href + "'
    target='_blank'>online book</a>] &lt;" + location.href
    + "&gt; (");
    MISSING CODE;
    ciDow.document.write(").<br /><br /><input
    type='button' value='Close Window' onclick='window.close()'>");
    ciDow.focus();

    Never mind - I was doing something very stupid and wasn't
    calling the function as a method of a movie clip. I was simply
    calling checkTarget(event) rather than
    event.currentTarget.checkTarget(event); which seems to work.

  • Remove Child Window from Parent using WIN API

    Hello all,
    I am using User32.dll to make a parent-child relationship between two VIs. I use SetParent function, and pass the handle of parent VI and child VI to this function. Now, after this relationship has been established, I want to remove the child window from the parent and use it as a independent VI using WIN API. Can anyone help me on this?
    Thanks in advance!

    You should be able to set a NULL handle to undo the parent-child relationship and make the child window again a normal top level window. Setting the desktop as parent is probably not the same as being a top level window.

  • Super annoying bug: Premiere Pro CC (and probably older versions) encoding/exporting window keeps stealing focus while working

    This is something that has caused me to lose a lot of hair due to pulling it:
    1. Open Premiere Pro on Windows (8.1, but that hardly matters, I think).
    2. Open some video.
    3. Export (encode) it to the desktop. The encoding/exporting child-window starts showing the progress bar as it works.
    4. Click the bottom-right corner of the screen to show your desktop.
    5. Now open any folder on the desktop, such as a dir called "test".
    6. Does the Explorer window showing the "test" dir open, as expected? Nope! Instead, Premiere Pro goes: "HEY! What's up?! I'm gonna push myself in front of everything and show you this export/encoding child window as well as the main Premiere Pro window in front of everything! What do you think about that? Heh-heh! Whatever you tried to open is now in the background and I'm in the foreground!"
    For the entire remainder of the encoding/exporting process, which can sometimes take hours, I am therefore crippled and cannot do any real work on my computer because Premiere Pro insists on force-showing itself against my will whenever I try to do anything else. This makes working with the computer while Premiere Pro is working (when I can't use the program anyway!) impossible. I'm left to Alt-tabbing around applications if I want to be able to do anything at all.
    Without a doubt, I'm not the first person to be annoyed by this. In fact, I'm 99.99% sure that Adobe is well aware of this. Still, I have to make an attempt at reporting this, because it's crippled me every day for the last few years and made me really, really angry. I primarily associate Premiere Pro with frustration and anger at this point. I really hope there is a hidden preference to turn this madness off or something.
    I predict that somebody will be tempted to respond with something along the lines of: "Use the Media Encoder!". Well, I don't like the Media Encoder. I want nothing to do with the Media Encoder. I just wanna use Premiere Pro and not have it steal focus against my explicit wishes.
    Please tell me this is possible somehow. And please don't tell me to report this to Adobe with some form. I'm reporting it here and now, thanks. Plus, once again, I'm sure they know about this already. (If they don't, they aren't using their own software.)

    I only asked two questions of you!!!
    Both  of them intended to get to a solution for you from understanding your workflow... .
    Sheesh.
    Don't understand why you put up with something that's made you go crazy"for years" and yet never mentioned by anyone else!
    He's doing a Direct Export, not going through AME.  That calls up a small dialog showing the progress of the export.  Kind of like when you render.
    I still don't know how that is done or how one even accesses a "direct export" option/menu.
