Teststand/SyBase ASA database problem
We have a SyBase SQL Anywhere Studio 8.0.1 database for Teststand.
We use the default schema with recordset(SELECT) with the ASA ODBC driver (dbodbc8.dll).
When running our Teststand application against the SyBase database, a new row is inserted OK in the parent table UUT_RESULT, but it's not able to retrieve the foreign key value for the next recordset from UUT_RESULT.ID (It tries to create a new row with FK-value 0, wich violates the RI constrict).
We get the following Run-Time Error dialog:
Details:
An exception occurred calling 'LogResults' in 'ITSDBLog' of 'DBLog 1.0 Type Library'
An error occurred executing a statement.
Schema: ASA Recordset.
Statement: STEP_RESULT.
Error in rowIntegrity constraint violation: No prim
ary key value for foreign key 'UUT_RESULT_FK' in table 'STEP_RESULT'
Source: TSDBLog
Error Code:
-2147467259; User-defined error code.
Location:
Step 'Log Results to Database' of sequence 'Log To Database' in 'Database.seq'
Any hints on what's wrong, or where to look for help?

Hello Ola -
There are only a few things that I can think of to try in your case as I am not familiar with your database. The first thing to check is on the 'Statements' tab for your table, investigate the settings of your 'Cursor Location' to make sure it is pointing to the server. This way you can guarantee that whatever you're seeing will be what the server sees. If you toggle this setting to 'server' and behavior doesn't change, or if your database is already working with a server cursor, then you may want to consider having the client side define the key via a GUI ID. Unfortunately we at National Instruments cannot provide much advice about how to build keys for databases, we recommend you look into the tools provided with your database software to find fun
ctions / procedures that could help. One additional item is, it sounds as though you are using the ODBC driver when talking to your database, it might be worth it to try communicating with your database via the provider's specific driver.

Elaine R.

Prob. CF7 using jConnect to Sybase ASA 9 on Win2K3 Srv.
hi there
I have this setup: Standard CF7.0.2 running on Win2K3.
Database ist Sybase ASA 9.
In other messages, I wrote about CFs ODBC server not working.
So I was told to use jConnect which I tried.
Neiher the CF Admin can use that jConnect mounting nor would
the cf application work.
The following happens now:
- creating a new database with ASA.
- I fire up a new db-engine and mount the database
- I add a new non-dba user
- in CF's data sources Admin I use other driver to declare
the jConnect parameters to that DB.
- I let CF validate the parameters. It succeeds woth both,
the dba and the non-dba user
- I stop the database engine and mount the same database to
the database server running as a service on that machine
- I let CF revalidate the connections and CF fails with
" java.sql.SQLException: JZ00L: Login failed."
Sybase Admin Tool is a native Java application and it has
never problems connecting to the db regardless how it is mounted.
So, it seems that the failure has something to do with access
rights. When doing the interactive tests, I am logged in as a
Win2K3 Administrator. When the database is mounted to the server
running as a service, it won't work.
Adobe, any clues what ACLs must be applied or are required?
Any pointers to that?
It's quite urgent, because we cannot migrate from an CFMX 6.1
to the CF7 because of this.
Thank youHi Ken
Thank you for your post: I tried it immediately.
FYI: it does not work and both ways give me the same result:

I DID post the probelm to Sybase but they also have no idea yet..
Thanks for helping!

Hi,
I have a problem capturing the schema information for a sybase ASA 8 database. I created a new database and included the JConnect Metadata in the table. When I connect from Sun One Studio and capture the schema it does not have the primary keys or indexes. It appears to not retrieve the metadata. In the database explorer the column is red which means it is getting the primary key info there on the connection but not when I capture the schema. I have tried to upgrade the database by hand with the scripts but there is no change.. I am using the JConnect 5_5 that came with the install of ASA 8. What do I need to do to get this to work, Without this PK information we cannot use CMP.Have you installed the meta data stored procedures and tables? The file is 'sql_asa.sql' in the JConnect5.5 zip under the "sp" directory.
Check the documentation for details.

Probable BUG found in Sybase Inventory database
Hi All,
(Sure is quiet around here - must be because ZDM 7 is so stable...)
So I have been having inventory database issues. Random but inevitable
database failures - eg "assertion failed 201425" (and other numbers that I
cannot locate at the moment), "mgmtdbs.db is not a valid database file" on
starting the sybase database. Etc.
Long troubleshooting story short: it appears that the sybase.nlm application
cannot handle nss volumes that are large. In my case it fails if I try to
run it on a 3.6TB or 5TB volume, but succeeds if I run it on small volumes -
20GB to 65GB. Also the database was running fine on a 1.8TB volume - the
problems began when I virtualized the server (on ESX 3.5u4) and moved the
volume from direct-attached scsi storage to network-attached CoRAID (AoE)
storage AND expanded the volume to 3.6TB.
To test my theory I ran the database on two other servers and 3 other
volumes. In all cases success came when the hosting volume was small -
didn't matter if the host volume was direct attached or on a physical server
as opposed to a virtual server.
So if you are having inventory database problems, try moving the database to
volume that is small - I suspect the magic breaking point is 2TB which just
happens to be the maximum size of an NSS partition...and wasn't that also
the max size of an NSS volume sometime in the past? Maybe the sysbase
engineers were working in such an environment when they wrote the
nlm...after all it has been 4 years since it was last modified (I am running
v8.00.03, Nov 30 2005) and even longer since it was originally written.
Anyways, the reason it fails is not so important. There is a workaround and
a long term solution as well - move to ZCM 10.whatever-is-good ;-)
Cheers,

PS If you have any evidence to back me up - or to disprove me - please
share!Isn't it funny how once unfathomable disk sizes are now not that unusual?
My guess is you are correct and if an SR was created on the issue Novell
would likey raise the matter to Sybase for investigation.
(Clearly this sounds as if its a bug and would be refunded.)
But I think it's unlikely that it would be fixed even if verified since the
NLM is already so old.
While you have simple work-arounds, It is possible that the Windows and
Linux versions of Sybase that come with ZDM don't have this issue.

Mail crashes: database problem?
I have the oddest problem with Mail now that I've updated to Lion. If I start to type the email address of one particular friend into the search box, it crashes as soon as I get to a character that distinguishes it from all others in my address book (ie meec for [email protected]). I cannot type this address directly into the "To" field either. Additionally, any time I click on an email that someone has sent to both our addresses, the email pauses for around 30 seconds before finally loading in the preview window.
I use a POP account for my university which allows Mail to auto-complete email addresses for anyone at the school whether they are in my local address book or not.
Could this be a problem with my school's mail server or is there some local file/database/etc. corrupted on my Mac? From the error message, it appears to be a database problem but I'm not sure how to fix it. The error log is attached.

Migrate peoplesoft sybase HR database to oracle 11g
Hi All,
We am looking to migrate from sybase 12 to Oracle 11g. We are not sure on which path to choose for this migration to be done. Ths sybase Database is around 55 GB. Below are few questions. Please let me know. The down time on this database can not be more than 2 days at the max.
1. What is the best and fastest way to do this, if there is one?
2. Any Documentation on steps involved in migration?
3. Do we have to use any 3rd party tools for this?
4. Can we achieve the data migration with sql loader, if yes is it the suggested way to do this and is there any documentation on this?
I tried sql developer to do the migration but it did not go well and finally found that it is not the way to migrate a Database with peoplesoft environment, below is the link to explain more about what I have done with sql developer.
If there is any other information required, below link has almost all the information.
Re: Migrate peoplesoft sybase HRMS database to oracle 11g
Thanks
Kranthi1) Build an Oracle Demo system patched to the same release level as the current production system.
2) Launch Application Designer and compare the production system to the demo system so you may capture the modifications.
3) Load a custom table with the tables listed in the MVPRDEXP.EXP in the production system. Run a script to create an export script for all PSRECDEFN where the RECTYPE is 0. This identifies all application data tables. You may want to dms export large tables in parallel.
4) DMS Import the exported data into the Oracle instance.
5) Reapply the modifications. -

VBRHi Kishor,
Thanks for your reply.
I have gone through that SAP Note 456102 and it was not of much help for our issue because we are ahead of PI that is mentioned in the note.
Can you send your email id so that i can forward the error screenshots.

Hi to all,
i am using bundled database with derby . red X appears on the Travel ,VIR,JumpStartCycles icon and an error appears when i try to expand it,but the database server is running.
i am getting error like this:
Connection status: succeeded
validation table status : failed
Schema 'Travel' does not exits.
The ideal validationtable exits only for connection validation purposes. do not use an existing table that has a large number of rows or a table that wili be frequntly used.
please do help me.
cheers,
jtr.I doubt this is a database problem.
Probably a OS/network problem but could also be due to something you are doing in the code. -

Which schema are you using, recordset(SELECT) or command(INSERT), and are you using and ODBC driver or a specific OLE-DB provider?
If you are using a select statement then when the UUT record is created, the database logger tries to find out what the value was so that it can write that value for the foreign key for the steps. Make sure that the statements in the schema are using a server side cursor for your tables so that if the database ODBC driver or provider that you are using can retrieve the key value from the database right after it creates the UUT record. If you are using server side cursors and this problem still occurs, it may be that the database ODBC driver or provider does not support getting the key value after the record is cre
ated.
Your only option might be to use command(INSERT) schema that generates key values in someway. The built in support is using an generated GUID value.
Also with some work, if supported, you could use stored procedures to generate the key.

TestStand 2014 Database Problem
Hi. I have no experience about logging results to database. I want to learn and do it. I want to use mssql. Could you help me about this situation?
Hi all,
I am attempting the same as the OP; I believe I have the tables set up correctly (can see all desired fields in SQL Management and Database Viewer) but when I run the sequence I always get this error:
An error occurred calling 'LogResults' in 'ITSDBLog' of 'zNI TestStand Database Logging'

Passing TestStand Variable to Database Options field
I seem to be having an issue with a non-optimized database query possibly because of a TestStand limitation or my limited knowledge of TestStand, probably the latter. What is currently happening is a custom type logs its data through a statement setup in the Database Options. This statement has a primary key reference and grabs that primary key from a recordset returned by this query:
"SELECT id FROM step_result order by date_time desc limit 1".
This query can take around 30 seconds or longer to run which is way too long for a database query returning 1 row.
What I'd like to do is change that query, inside of the Database Options, to utilize a StationGlobals variable which will drastically speed this query up.
I'm doing the same query, with proper WHERE clauses, in another place (as a work-around solution to this same problem, which may be reverted if I fix this problem) and it is laid out as followed:
"SELECT id FROM step_result where uut_result=\""+ StationGlobals.UUT_Result_ID +"\" order by date_time desc limit 1"
I need that query to be run, with that variable, in the database options statement. Is this possible to do in TestStand? The problem I've seen so far is that the "Command Text" entry for the "Get Value from Recordset" doesn't like variables and string concats. Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks in advance for any help.The way our database is designed, this involves 3 different tables:
step_result - ID Primary kefield
meas_mul_numericlimit - ID primary key, foreign key of step_result ID field
meas_mul_numericlimit_info - Primary and foreign key for step_result ID field
A "parent" row is added into the step_result table, if the step type is of MultipleNumericLimitTest, a row is added into the m_m_n_i to hold graphing information and the actual data is inserted into the m_m_n table.
The MNLT step type uses the query to get the ID of the last entered step_result for the m_m_n_i table to setup the proper relationship. The problem is we need a specific s_r ID for everything to work properly. Obviously the Type definition is a "post processing" method as it can get the current step's ID from the database. The problem is that query isn't optimized and sorting 500k rows is incredibly slow.
The other problem, which I used a workaround on, dealt with a similar yet different situation.
In our Main sequence file, we had a sequence which would establish graphing features for tests whose measurements are spread across different "parents"/steps. We would establish the m_m_n_i information and then associations for a graph_parent field. What I did in that case was, create the association, then using normal SQL steps, gather the ID field and then update the ID for the graph_parent. Since this process was done pre-tests/measurements, I had the luxury to be able to do these steps outside of the database options field. In the other case though, its mid-test and based on measurements so I can't do the same workaround.
One thing I was wondering also is, in the processing of the custom type, is there a way to access the ID of the currently being processed step? If there was a variable for that, then I could just use the expression field.
Does this help/explain this a little better? -
Weblogic -Sybase Bridge driver Problem
I am using the weblogic server 6.1 (in production mode)with sybase anyware 6.0
and
i am using the bridge driver to connect to database.
I have tried using the own implementation of coonection pool and also the poool
functionality provided by the weblogic.
It some times give s me the error as follows:
1) Authentication violation
--Only when i am firing the delete or insert or update queries.
2) too many connection to the the database ,database rejected the connection.
Can u give the sample code where in i can use connection pool.
I am creating the one datasource instance in the init method of my main controller
servlet and then i am pasing this datasource to the constuctor of the util classes
and the action classes.
The problem is that also sometimes calls the destroy method of the controller
servlet and which again creates a new datasource.
Is there any timeout setting to be done for the post request which can solve this
problem.
Thanks for replies in advance.

JSP and Java Beans with Database Problem
hellow, this is my first posting and i hope to help me as fast as you can...
my problem is simplly i cant get any data from the database (whatever the database it is, i test it with MS Access and MySQL server) when i use a bean, But if i put my connection statement in the JSP file thair is no problem... ???? !!!!
for example i have a class "Authentication" that have a method to test if the username and password is correct or not and return 1 if true, 0 if false, -1 if thair are some problem in connecting DB.
now if i create a normal java application that uses this method, it's work and no problems, BUT if i used a JSP page to use this method it's return allways -1T1 class:
package VX;
import java.sql.*;
import java.util.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class T1
//public MBJDBConnection(String driver,String url)
public T1()
JDBC_DRIVER = "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver";//driver;
DATABASE_URL = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/rawafed?user=root;password=0000";//url;
//=======DB CONNECTION===========================================
private static String JDBC_DRIVER;
private static String DATABASE_URL;
protected Connection connection;
protected Statement statement;
//===========End DBC==============================================
public int update(String sqlUpdate)
int i=0;
//connectDB();
try{
i=statement.executeUpdate(""+sqlUpdate);
catch(Exception e)
System.out.println("Error Inserting Statement Or Connection Not Opened");
//disconnectDB();
return i;
public ResultSet select(String sqlQuery)
//connectDB();
ResultSet rs;
try
{//open try
rs=statement.executeQuery(""+sqlQuery);
return rs;
}//end try

Hi,
I'm trying to migrate a configuration of an ASA 5520(Version: ASA 8.0(5)) to an ASA 5585 (Version: 8.4(2)). I keep getting some errors which are included below. I've been struggling with these for some copule of weeks and read the documentation on cisco.com (
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa83/upgrading/migrating.html) and also some pages on this forum. Some lines are written in bold of which I wasn't able to find any information about. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Did you possibly try the default username/password combination? (cisco/cisco) It should then prompt you to change these settings once you gain access. I'm not familiar with how the migration works, if it transitions the user accounts over or you end up starting from scratch. Give that a try and hopefully it gets you into your new system.
