Tethered Capture issue, LR 5 and Canon 7D Mk II

When I connect the camera and start TC I get the connect message and then a no camera detected, flashing back and forth about once a second -- regularly.  LR/ACR is up to date and reads and downloads the files fine.  Same thing on 2 computers.  Wonder if I have a bad connection in the camera.  Wiggling the connector doesn't make any difference.  And it hasn't been abused.
Anyone else seen this?

Tethered camera support in Lightroom
The above link will provide details of the present camera models that are supported for tethered capture.
The Canon 7D Mk 11 is not yet supported. Canon need to provide the appropriate documentation to enable Adobe to finalize the support.

  • Tethered capture issues-5D Mark II a Mac OS 10.6.8

I've been shooting tethered for some time, and have never had an issue.
I'm in the middle of a shoot, have been shooting for about 3 days (obviously, not conistenly) and now, seemingly out of no where, no matter what I do Lightroom keeps saying 'No Camera Detected'.
I'm shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II and running Mac OS 10.6.8 and Lightroom 3.6.
I have tried everything on this list:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/894/cpsid_89486.html
    Including trashing my preferances file!
Still nothing. I am completely out of ideas. HELP!!!

Tethered in LR doesn't work great with the 5D on mac in my experience but it should re-detect after a restart at least.  Did you switch cables recently?  I have 3 USB cables but only one of them works well.  Now I use an amplified cable if I need any length more than 1.5 meters.
I don't know what to suggest other than that.  I myself stopped using LR to tether a 5D2 with a Mac because, to put it crudely, it's crap with absolutely no consistency.
Now I use C1 Pro with no issues whatsoever, it never fails me and no embarrassing annoyances anymore.

  • Live capture with FCE 4 and Canon HV20 - End of Tape when capture in HD

I have a Canon HV20 HiDef video camera that was given to me to record an event. I want to try and avoid using the tapes if possible and capture the video directly into my MacBook Pro using FCE 4.
If I try and capture video when the camera is set to HD output, the capture screen comes up, I can see the image from the camera on the FCE4 screen for a split second, then I get a message indicating the end of tape has been encountered. (The tape isn't even being used and is no where near the end anyway).
If I change the camera to DV output, I can change the FCE4 Easy Setup to simple DV control and it works fine to capture live, except that it is no longer in HD. I get no error message about the tape end being hit.
I am unable to find any Easy Setup configuration that will allow me to record live. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Play your tape forward to a position where there is continuous Timecode and try again.
As Ian suggests the correct _AIC Easy Setup_ is the only way to get HDV in to your Mac via FCE.
Note: Your camera must be set to output HDV assuming it recorded HDV.

  • Finally Resolved my Printer Issues - HP 1012 and Canon Pixma

This has been about to drive me crazy... I cannot tell you how much browsing I have done on this forum and via google searches. For me... my issue is related to VM Fusion. This also identified why my CD / DVD wouldn't always eject.
My printer would work when I removed and re-added or reset printer services... it would work for maybe an hour or so then nothing would print. It would show up as paused in the printer status... but never would print.
What I ended up doing was removing my printer from the USB connection within VMware Fusion and it has worked flawlessly... will print from any application. Since I am only running a Weather Station through Windows and VMware I don't need the printer function. But it does make me wonder why... I will ping the guys on the VMware Fusion forum to see if they have any answers.

I've been using this printer with LR for over a year and I've had fantastic results.  The secret, for me at least, is just before I print I increase the brightness by about 20 to 25 - depending on the paper.
Here is how I arrived at this value:
    Make 3 virtual copies
Increase the brighness of each by 10
You now have four images at 50, 60, 70, and 80 brightness
Highlight the four images and go to the print module
Print them all on one 5x7 (or larger if you prefer) sheet of your target paper
See which one looks the best.
Use that brightness level for that paper.
If you're not sure and have it narrowed down to two values and can't decide, you can always repeat this at something like 65, 70, 75, 80, etc...  It only uses a couple of small sheets and a little bit of ink.
The one thing to keep in mind when using this (or any other ink printer) is that even a properly calibrated monitor is going to look brighter than your print.  This is not a fault of the printer, but rather the nature of today's LCD monitors - particularly the nice bright LED ones.  Your paper does not have nice, bright white lights pushing trough it to backlight it, so a little push in the brightness will do the trick.
BTW - in case anyone is interested, there are some simple ways to work around the forced borders on the FA prints on this printer.  For example, the Canon Museum Rag paper is made by Hahnemuhle in Germany.  You can use the Hahnemuhle profile and it works just fine!  Likewise, my favorite paper is the Epson Velvet Fine Art paper.  Since it is made by Legion I use the Legion Sommerset Velvet profiles and get full 13x19 FA prints with no border.

  • Tethered capture 7D mark ii

When will tethered capture in lightroom support the canon 7D mark ii

    There are two clues,
    1. Lightroom updates are issued approximately every three months.
    2. Adobe only commences working on Tether Capture for new camera models after the camera manufacturer issues updates to their SDK for the particular camera model.
See the link below for present list of camera models supported.

  • Tethered Capture Canon 600D/T3i and L/R 4

Hi, I asked the question back on the 11th March 2012 without a reply!! and ask it again now "Why is it still not possible to use the tethered capture option with a Canon T3i/600D"?
    I note that the
Canon EOS 5D Mark III — introduced with release candidate 1 (March 29, 2012)
    Canon EOS 60Da
are both included now but for the consumer who cannot afford 5D Mk IIIs Adobe have left them at the starting line.
There must be thousands of 600D/T3i owners who have also purchased Lightroom 4 and feel a little frustrated.
Yes, I no you can use the Canon software to access tethered capture but I own L/R 4 and would as a customer of Adobe prefer to use this option in L/R.
The camera has been on the market for some time so there really is no excuse not to have this option available.
    Thank You

    Because it hasn't been implemented.

The 5DIII is NOT supported by the tethering module yet:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/tethered-camera-support-lightroom-4.html
I suspect the 60Da is (even though it isn't on the list) because it's just a 60D with a different IR filter and some different software.  It might not be, however, due to the different software.
There must be thousands of 600D/T3i owners who have also purchased Lightroom 4 and feel a little frustrated.
I suspect very few owners of the Rebel series are desperately in need of tethered capture.

Frankly, I'd rather use the Canon software than Lightroom even if it were supported within LR.  LR doesn't allow you control over any camera functions and it doesn't allow you to use LiveView.  It's just a remote shutter release with auto-import.

  • Canon 6D tethered capture support in LR 4.3

    Hi all,
I downloaded and installed LR 4.3 update to my Mac running OS X 10.8.2. I have no problem importing the RAWs from my Canon 6D by plugging in the SD card into the SD card slot in my MacBook Pro.
However it appears that when I try to start tethered capture in LR, my camera keeps saying that it's "BUSY" and won't work at all.
I was just wondering does this mean that tethered capture for Canon 6D is not supported in LR 4.3?
    Thanks.

The tether support is different to the raw support and will likely be provided later down the road. Requires a SDK issued by the camera manufacturer. There are many threads in the forum concerning this issue and you can do a search for more details.

  • Canon 5D Mark III back screen is dead after tethered capture with Lightroom 4.3

I was successfully shooting tethered using Lightroom 4.3 (PC laptop with Windows 7) and my Canon 5D Mark III, however when I disconnected the cable I was no longer able to see anything on the back of the camera, no image playback, no menu, no live view, nothing.  How do I recover the functionality of the camera's back screen.  I tried removing the battery for a while, replacing the battery, taking out the memory card.  Don't know how to "reset" the camera.  Note the top display on the camera and the view finder display work fine, I can change settings with my dials.  Was working in Manual Exposure mode, and also tried Aperture Priority.  If I reconnect to the laptop I can still work in tethered mode, but after disconnecting the camera back is still dead.
Was I somehow supposed to disconnect the camera from tethered capture before disconnecting the cable?

It is probably not related to your tethering session in Lightroom. It is also unlikely to be related to the order you unplugged things. (Unless you yanked the cable and damaged some electronics).
Have you tried pulling both batteries for 30 minutes (The regular battery and the quarter-sized watch battery)?  Pull those and the memory card. Unplug all cables and let it sit for a while and then replace the batteries.

  • Tethered Capture with 3.4.1 x64 and D7000

    Hello everybody,
I am starting this discussion about issues with Tethered Capture with LR 3.4.1 and Nikon D7000.
I tested the Capture on 3 different PCs: a Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and two Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
I can properly do capture with the 32bit version of LR, even thought I am no longer able to browse the files on the SD card after a shooting session with Tether. I suppose this has something to do with exclusive access priority, but this is actually not the big problem I am encountering.
On Windows 7 x64 machines, it appears LR 64bit is not able to do Tethered Capture as in the capture window I only see "No camera detected".
I did a search on the Internet and I found just a few examples of this issue with apparently no explanation or solutions, but I think this is a general problem as it happens on two different Windows 7 x64 installations, but not on the 32bit one.
My D7000 already has the latest firmware installed and I already tried different USB cables to be sure this is not a hardware malfunction.
I am now really lost to this problem and I do not know how to proceed in troubleshooting or solving it.
    Anybody can help?
Thanks a lot and have a nice day
    Luca

When using tethered capture I often get this notification "The metadata for this photo has been changed by both Lightroom and another application". This slows or stalls the loading of incoming photos. How do I find out which other application is changing the metadata and stop it?

    Thanks Sean,
I've had a look at the TC settings dialog and tried to keep it as simple as possible. I also had a copy of LR 4 on the hard drive so have trashed that also incase of any conflicts. LR seems to be running ok now but as said it's an intermittent problem.
I also have a copy of Capture One on the hard drive so am going to uninstall that also in case it is trying to launch.

I frequently use Lightroom 3.6 for tethered capture on location. If I sign up for Adobe cloud and upgrade to Lightroom 5, do I have to be online all the time to use it? In other words, can I still use the program off-line?

    Yes.
The only difference is the installation method and the ownership verification. The program still is installed on and runs from your local machine. You only have to hook up to the internet every 60-90 days to verify ownership.
    From the FAQ
Do I need to be online to access my desktop apps?
No, the desktop applications in Creative Cloud, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, are installed directly on your computer, so you don’t need an ongoing Internet connection to use them.
An Internet connection is required the first time you install and license your apps, but you can use the apps in offline mode with a valid software license. The desktop apps will attempt to validate your software licenses every 30 days.
Annual members can use the apps for up to 99 days in offline mode. Month-to-month members can use the software for up to 30 days in offline mode."

  • LR3 Tethered Capture Support for Nikon D60 and D80

I was very excited when I heard that LR3 had finally added tethered capture. So I sat down today to cover the LR tutorial at http://www.photoshopuser.com/lightroom3/. As I watched, I set up my Nikon on my tripod with flash, just beaming with anticipation. I connected to my computer via the USB cable and opened tethered capture in LR3. The 'heads up display' opened as advertised, but it showed 'No Camera Detected'. So, after visiting several forums and Adobe Help, I found that my Nikon D80 was not supported for tethered capture.
    Dang!
Does anyone know if Adobe is going to add support for the D80, as well as the D60?
    Thanks.

Doubtless Adobe knows, but this is a user to user forum, so I wouldn't hold your breath for anything formal from Adobe here except "eventually". Maybe.
