Tethered to Lightroom auto-rotation issue

Hi, I'm using a canon EOS 1D Mark III tethered to Lightroom via EOS utility. When I shoot, at the time of capture/import lighroom doesn't display my vertically shot images as verticals, rather horizontals. I've tried to toggle with the auto-rotate setting in camera (trying all 3 settings) and nothing has changed. What am I doing wrong?

Yes there is...actually after posting this problem, I realized that my issue was that "rotate image" under the "remote shooting" menu in prefs of EOS util was ticked on. It should be ticked off.

    Hi,
After updating OTA to the lastest firmware Auto-Rotate display stopped working. When i first installed the new FW I had issue with the home screen. It kept blinking like every 1 sec between homescreen and appication screen. This is when I noticed that I cannot reinstall the FW from either NSU or OTA(I suppose it has been pulled of due to some problem for this model). I was luckily able to soft-reset the phone which fixed the home screen blinking, but the Auto-rotate doesn't work anymore. Sensor seems to be ok since step counter is working, muting the phone call and snoozing alarm works
Now I'm pretty annoyed since I can't reinstall the software and this is my only phone at the moment so I have to loan some phone from somewhere in order to the this to the service.
So be carefull with the new firmware.
    Solved!

You cannot reinstall OTA updates because they only work from version A to version B. Your phone now has version B on it already.
I've read that 5800s don't have NSU available for v21 yet, but I guess it's just a matter of time, then you can reinstall as many times as you like!
Thanks for the tip though. I don't use the auto-rotate or motion sensor at all, so I'll be updating just to get the improved Touch that's apparently coming.
I believe that if you have one version installed, and it is the latest one, you can reinstall it using NSU. I'm not sure how it works if you updated OTA vs NSU, though.

  • How to reduce size of iPhoto library ? (after the usual auto-rotate issue)

    Hi,
This is my first message here, even I am oftenly reading and searching these forums...
I found many topics about this issue of "auto-rotate settings on camera, that will increase the size of the library".
Thanks Terrence and also Toad, for replying millions of time, to the same question.
(I was actually surprise that you don't have a topic, with all info, and you would simply point the guys to that same topic..., instead of writing again and again..)

    etc.. etc...
    Summary:
I have started a new library, with the birth of my son, 7 months ago.
I was going to move it and realized : 15Gb, with 5Gb in the "modified" folder.
After looking around here, I found the reason.
And now, the auto-rotate is turned off on my cameras. (and I will try your Xee, to rotate before importing to iPhoto)
    Now, my question:
What can I do, with my existing library?
Is there a way to reduce it? to get rid of all the rotated pictures? (could I delete the one in Original folder?
Only solution is to reimport all, in a new library ? (I can't imagine doing again all the events... even if it's only 7 months worth of pictures...)
Thanks for your info and suggestions.
    Thierry.

I don't know of any software to remove that tag. If you did and imported the files they would be displayed in the landscape orientation which is not how they were taken. So if you wanted to view them correctly you'd have to rotate them from within iPhoto thus creating a modified version and be back from where you started.
Your best bet would be to go thru the photos using Quicklook to find those portrait oriented photos and use Xee to rotate before importing.
Or use a different DAM (digital asset management) application that can handle those types of files without creating modified versions. I use Expression Media which lets me rotate the files from inside the application without creating modified files.

After ios 7 update on ipad mini, auto rotation stop working. Anyone facing this issue too?

    for ipad,
    if you go to settings-General
You can select between using the side switch to lock rotation or mute.  If you select one mute, then the lock rotation icon will show up in the control center.  If you select lock rotation, then the mute will show up.  THe side switch is then used for the other option.

  • Auto Rotate problems when shooting tethered overhead

I am shooting with a Canon 5d mark 2.  When I shoot product into the auto rotate works properly and the image appears rotated properly. Although when I shoot overhead or down on product it seems to get confused. If I rotate the camera twords the horizon and fire it figures out which way it should be the I can reframe my overhead shot.  But if the camera is moved at all it will show up rotated the wrong way and I have to slightly move the camera away from its directly overhead framing again so it can figure out wich way it should be rotating. I have tried all three rotate modes with the camera with similar inconsitant results. What is the best setting on the camera to get consistant results. Or ii I turn auto rotate off is there a way to tell lightrroom to rotate it properly on import like it does for all other settings like white balance.

This isn't a function of tethering, I wouldn't think. Many cameras have a sensor that determines the orientation of images so auto-rotate works. The problem is that these sensors generally only work along one axis, using the force of gravity to tell them where down is. When you orient the camera such that the lens is pointing down most sensors no longer are able to determine whether you are in portrait or landscape, because there is no down -- it ends up being somewhat random.
I've seen this on many different cameras, and all without tethering. It has to do when the sensor is read when composing the short.
Your best bet is to set the camera to ignore the sensor when taking pics like this, and rotate the image by hand that are need to be in portrait. If there is no rotation in the image metadata, Lr will not rotate it. It will have to be done by hand. It won't be that hard to select a number of images and bulk rotate them.

  • I'm having issues with the auto rotation feature in zommbrowser ver 6.5-

I believe this is a relative easy fix but cannot for the life of my locate it.
I'm using zoombrowser 6.5 and just swtiched to a newer version of the Powershot Elph 130is. When the photos are loading onto my PC using zoombrowser that are auto rotated- however there is a blue rotation arrrow on the left side at the top.
I had somehow in the past eliminated that- the photos are not saving rotated- rather they are reverting to the orientation they were taken from.
I tried support but they did not have any answers. I take a large number of photos for work so rotating each pic individually would not work..  I had this problem previously but dd not save the answer.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Yoga 8 and 10 Tablets - KitKat 4.4.2 - Auto-Rotation

After upgrading to KitKat 4.4.2, some customers report auto-rotation does not always occur while changing modes on their Yoga 10 tablet (B8000-F/H). Reports include the Lenovo Launcher home page, Facebook, and SolMail. Hard resets do not resolve the issue.
Please note that Lenovo has escalated internally on this issue. I was able to reproduce these reports on a KitKat 4.4.2 V24 build. I noticed slow auto-rotate and I quickly developed a habit of automatically "shaking" the device one time when changing the mode to force the auto-rotation.
These reports originated from this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Android-based-Tablets/KitKat-roll-out-for-Yoga-Tablets-starting-Jun...
Note: This has only been reported by Yoga 10 Tablet users. If this is occuring on your Yoga 8 Tablet, please let me know so I can escalate it for the Yoga 8.

  • 8.1 | 11s | Auto-rotate only works for landscape & button does nothing

The way auto-rotate is sort of doing it's own thing right now. The way it works is if  the screen is upside down (winbutton up) -> tablet mode, rightside up -> laptop mode. Those are the only two switches that it makes, and it doesn't rotate to a portrait mode, which I would really like.
The auto-rotate button doesn't seem to do anything anymore. The dialog will appear on-screen but it rotates the same wether it's on or off.
I can make the switch with ctrl+alt+<,> but that doesn't disable the keyboard, and it flips back to landscape when I move it.
Is there some list of upgrade issues?
Other issues I have/had are: cpu throtling in tablet mode, dolby stopped working though audio works fine with new driver. Also the upgrade messed up my DNS settings. Updating the wifi driver & forgetting the network driver didn't solve it. I had to go to the conection's settings and set the DNS manually on IPV4 and disable IPV6.

Check for newer drivers and install if any, then post if you still have the issue.

  • Has anyone experienced the mute switch / auto-rotate switch iOS bug on their ipad?

Has anyone experienced the mute switch / auto-rotate switch iOS bug on their ipad?
I have experienced this on iPad 1 as well as iPad 2.
Basically, when you set the side switch to toggle screen orientation (or mute), after a period of use I will have either my sound cease to function or the ipad screen will not orient correctly.  This depends on what i have chosen the side switch to toggle.  I am not sure what causes it.  The time it takes for the problem to appear is inconsistent. Some say it is caused by third party applications.
One can find numerous threads on here if you search for "sound on my ipad stopped working" or "orientation not working".  It appears to be the same problem. Fudging with the toggle switch settings can fix it (but it takes a weird order to get it out of its non functioning loop).
Here is a thread that addresses the sound issue:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/15263298#15263298

Its only for notifications.. it is not for sound from videos or music!

  • Can't turn auto rotate off!

Hi, I got my Xperia Z1 today, and have now checked out everything on my new phone now, and I have just. discovered that I can't turn off the auto rotate feature
Not sure if this happened after I updated to 4.3
This is really annoying, I have tried to restart the phone, turn auto rotate off and on again in both the screen settings and the shortcut in the scroll down "menu"
Anyone got any tips or tricks for me to a fix?
    Would appreciate it much

    Hi there,
What if a some app you use causes that issue?
Reboot your phone into "Safe Mode" and check whether an issue reappears.

  • Since IOS 6 update, malfunction with auto rotate and sounds

Hello. I'm wondering if others have experienced a problem since updating their IPads. Since the update, I've lost the dual functionality of auto-rotate and sounds. I can only have 1 of the functions operate as per norm.  If I want sounds (for keyboard clicks/games/etc.) my screen will not auto orient. Vice versa for auto orientation. Normal rotation is only possible with NO SOUND for the previously mentioned apps. I've performed reboots, and also endeavoured to make the obvious corrections in the General Settings fields. When I uncheck "MUTE"...it automatically places a checkmark in the lock rotation field!!!
Can anyone offer a solution, to what i perceive, as a software issue?

    Maybe this will help.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • S230u reinstallation and auto-rotate lock button

Some time ago (after switching to SSD) I reinstalled Windows 8 and upgraded to 8.1. I have made a fresh installation as I could not get the image copying from HDD to SSD to work properly.
The OS has been working great so far, but the one thing I am really missing is the auto-rotate lock button next to the power button. It does not work at all and never has.
I do have the System Update 5 software for installing packages from Lenovo and have installed all of the drivers it recommended except for Password Manager and IRST which I do not need.
I have also manually installed the 'Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad' package which I expected to be the thing I was missing.
Is there any additional software that I should install or something that I should enable to get the functionality?
I know Windows+O does the same thing, but when you are in tablet mode that key is not that handy.

  • How do I fix rotate issue with thumbnail and full size?

When I look at photos in the thumbnail view the rotation is wrong. When I click and view the photo in full screen mode, the picture auto rotates. This is frustrating and I can't figure out how to fix the problem. I've taken a Youtube screen video to showcase the problem. Any suggestions appreciated!
Video of rotate issue between thumbnail and full size:

    Thanks,
    Nitesh
    Using iphoto 11 9.2.1

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails.
    If that doesn't help:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photoshop and Bridge CS5 does not auto rotate SOME images.

Photoshop and Bridge CS5 does not rotate SOME of my vertical images.  Most other photos taken in the same time frame and with the same camera display perfectly.
Orientation is checked for display under Preferences, Metadata, Camera Data.
There also seems to be a discrepancy how Orientation is described under Metadata for those images which DO auto rotate : sometimes it is -90 (which is how I hold the camera for verticals and which displays on most verticals) and sometimes it is "normal" even when it has auto rotated the image.   I do not understand this difference.
"Normal" is also used to describe the orientation of those images which DO NOT auto rotate for viewing.
The photos in questions were taken using a Nikon D-300 which is programmed to indicate the orientation of the camera and has always been programmed to do so.
I know I can manually change the orientation but we are talking about hundreds of images (I have over 10,000 photos in all; most of which display fine).
What should I be looking for to explain and correct this issue?
I appreciate anything you can do to help.  Thank you.

Thanks for responding to my query.  I'll check out the thumbnail size.
It is just so curious that 90% of the verticals auto rotate and the rest do not.  The ones that do not rotate are even from different years (other images in those years work fine), although all taken with the same camera.
