Tethering help for cellphone ISP access on Macbook/OSX 10.4.11

Hi, I am running into information-overload on this and sorry if not in the
appropriate forum but...
I am a broadcaster and when traveling need to have ISP access from my Macbook to upload short voice tracks to stations/clients. In the past I've just relied on wi-fi where a hardwire connection wasnt available but would ideally like to be able to connect using a cell/smartphone in the event i can't get a wi-fi hookup.
Is there a primary information source here or anywhere - about the logistics of doing this...My Sprint plan gives me unlimited data at 30.00/month but they ask double that to get the 'laptop connect' card - I prefer to go the tethering route instead as i really don't see myself needing to do this THAT often to justify the huge cost boost.
How simple is it do get connectivity with a smartphone such as the HTP TouchPro 2 (Windows Mobile) - or am i going to have problems with interfacing a non-Mac device...? I get conflicting reports...some say the WinMo stuff is buggy and doesn't easily 'talk' to Mac OS laptops. Would i need to go so far as switching providers and going to say, an IPhone for this....or otherwise is there a different OS - such as Blackberry - that is known to be able to tether okay with Mac OSX... Sorry if my questions are all over the place but i have no one readily available to give me expert consultation on this and am just trying to find the simplest route to accomplish this reliably in the near future.
My old Sanyo MM9000 phone will not tether with any of my Macs so i know i'll likely at least need to upgrade to a newer phone -which is fine.

Time Capsule help for a complete noob to MacBook

Hi everyone
This is been killing me for about 2 months. Currently living in an annex down the end of my girlfriends fathers garden. The wifi doesn't reach so I got a Time Capsule so I could use it as a router.
We've got a cable and it's run from the Time Capsule, down the garden, into the house and plugged into router in the house.
That's where I'm now stuck. I've messed about with it and now my Macbook AirPort won't even recognise my Time Capsule.
This really needs to be in moron terms as I'm clueless. I've spent all this money and can't get it to do what I wanted it to do.

Need help with Tamil unicode fonts in Macbook OSX 10.6.7

I am really desperate for some help figuring out my Tamil unicode font problem. With great difficulty I got all these fonts set up on my previous ibook G4. When that computer died in the fall I got this new Macbook, and had all my data brought from the old computer to the new one. Fonts were working great, as before. Well recently I had a hard drive failure on my new Macbook (OSX 10.6.7). I now have a new hard drive, and I brought over all my data from an external hard drive using Time Machine. Everything appeared to be working great....except the Tamil fonts. Previously I was using Murasu Anjal unicode font which allowed me to type in Tamil font and view Tamil on webpages, no problem. I understand that Snow Leopard has Tamil font support (including Anjal), so I am confused as to why they were working before but are not working now-especially because on my husband's Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.5) you can see Tamil fonts on webpages and he has no special Tamil font installed whatsoever. For me the only thing visible is boxes. I am in the midst of finishing up a dissertation which is really dependent on being able to read and write in Tamil fonts. I am desperate to get this fixed but just cannot seem to figure it out. I would greatly appreciate any help or advice!!! Thanks so much!!!

I've always used the Anjal keyboard with no problem...at least there was no problem before my MacBook hard drive had to be replaced, with a newer operating system, as I had mentioned previously. When I type in Pages, NeoOffice or TextEdit, the results are the same. Many of the characters show up, but vowel combinations--especially the "o" or "u" vowels--show up incorrectly or are unintelligible. Strangely, typing in Tamil font (using Anjal keyboard) in internet searches works perfectly, but ONLY in Firefox (?) NOT in the Safari browser. Prior to re-installing the InaiMathi font, which had seemingly vanished with the transfer of my data to the new hard drive, I was unable to type Tamil anywhere, not even in Firefox. Now it works only in Firefox. For example, if I were to type in Tamil in this window, it works fine: தமிழ் நாடு.
Being able to do Tamil searches in Firefox as I had previously is really a major boon for me, but of course I'd love to be able to produce Tamil text, especially as I am about to embark on a 6 month research jaunt to South Asia.

Request help for purchasing HD webcams using iMac, OSX &Lion

I am requesting help for purchasing a HD webcam using iMac, OSX &Lion. Any suggestions would help. The following is what I've done so far...
I purchased Logitech's HD C910 webcam. It was a mess in requards to freezing up, no zoom and most of all no adjustments in: contrast, hue, color, etc. You're stuck just like a car with no engine or wheels who wants that. The other Logitech products i.e. Pro 9000 is being discontinued with no software updates in the future and the same with the other products. Most of the other manufactures do not provide software that is really compatible provideing true HD with full features. I'm willing to spend around $199,00 or so. Any suggestions?

Well I found my own answer to the webcam concern that I had ....I bought the Logitech C-910...Yes, I know the Logitech states their software is not compatible with OS X ...That's OK, I only use the basics supplied by Logitech to open the cam...Logitech does supply HD settings which are useful. I like the wide angle which is there to play around. Then I use a software program called "Webcams Settings" found at Apple's App Store. There is a small charge for this download but more than worth it to have a fully functioning system. The best way to get there is obliviously via your "Dock." Click on the icon and type in "Webcam Settings" in the top right portion of the page and presto....you have all the goodies to play like a professional. i.e.: zoom, pan, tilt, aperture. etc. of course your webcam camera(s) must have the capability to perform these options in order to use them.
Note I have used my webcam for everything you can imagine and have a 60 foot cord (several cords linked together) to go outside (LOL) 'Just love the goodies with "Webcam Settings". I take outstanding pics too if I do say so, please. Funny, I rarely use my cam to Skype but knowing the option is there for me anytime I wish. I my cam to photograph orchids and misc. even portraits and family play photos with my tripod in hand. Just because there is a big road block in your path doesn't mean there aren't other avenues. In the corporate life it's called take a negative and make it a positive or else.......and if you have to gripe then you better have an idea on how to turn it around. -So- I did Logitech and Apple.

Java applet help for mountain lion update on macbook pro

Hey, I upgraded to the new mountain lion update yesterday and since then when opening java applets, it won't allow me to do anything with them such as entering usernames and passwords. It was working fine yesterday before I did the update but now I can't seem to get it to work. I've reinstalled Java and it says it's all installed correctly. I was wondering if anyone else is having/had the same problem and knows what to do?

Hi Leonie! I was running into the same problem on my Macbook Air with ML but I just found a soultion that worked for me.
I downloaded and installed Java 7 from oracle's website. And then in the java prefences referenced before, changed the Java 7 build to be my default.
All my applets work great now for me.

Cisco ASA 5505 VPN help for local lan access.

Hi all,
I am very new to Cisco systems. Recently I was tasked to enable local lan access for one of my server. The problem is this. I have this server with 2 interfaces. One interface to my FTP server(192.168.2.3) and the other to the Cisco ASA(192.168.1.1). Whenever I connect the server to Cisco Anyconnect VPN, I am unable to access the FTP server anymore.
I googled and found out that the problem is because the metric level is 1 for Ciscoanyconnect network interface which causes all traffic to go through the Cisco VPN Interface. Another problem is I can't change the metric of the Cisco VPN Interface as whenever I reconnect to the VPN, the metric resets back to 1 again. I tried to follow some guides to configure split tunnel but my traffic is still going through the VPN connection.
Anyone can tell me what I am missing here? Sorry I am very new to Cisco systems. Spent about 5 days troubleshooting and I feel I am getting it soon. Anyone can guide me what else I am supposed to do?
What I did> Configuration>> Remote access VPN>> Network Client Access>> Group Policies>> Advanced>> Split Tunneling>> Uncheck Inherit and select "Exclude Network List below.>> Uncheck Network List and select Manage, Add 192.168.2.0/24 to permit.
Really appreciate if anyone can tell me what else I can do to ensure my server has access the my FTP Server after connecting to the VPN.

I'm not 100% would you need to perhaps allow GRE through the firewall even after that. (Protocol 47)

Hello to all
it's my first message on this forum, i'm seeking for help because i'm kind of new with Mac systems.
I'm gonna explain the problem
So we are going to buy a mac pro and put 4*2To inside with raid 5 and osx server.
The problem is that the cost of installation of sotwre and deployement etc is really expensive.
I need to create a vpn too, this mac pro is gonna be a storage and multiple users must have acces to it. In fact this mac will be connected on the router and users will acces to it on local network then later we're gonna move from our base so the mac will be at the home of one of us and other users will have to access it from outside.
I was thinking avoyding cost of install by doing it myself.
So i've thinked that the best way to do it is by asking help to the community.
Is anyone can help me with this or tell me where i can find tutorials to do it?
I have skills but this is hard form me. The thing is that i learn fast. But i need help.
Maybe my post is not really clear i write as it comes to me, english is not my langage too.
So feel free to ask me questions or informations if you need.

first i would say you must read the Documentation. and you should familier with Mac Os installation System.
in your Mac Server DVD you will find the schedule sheet . print that and plan your server first. it will really help full. then come and list down the all the requirements.
may be you will need more services after that.
But again again again . read that sheet and fill all the requirements. and come back or read specific captors in the Documentation.

Help for smugmug publish plugin on Mac OSX 10.9.4

I cannot for the life of me find the smugmug zip file which is supposedly downloaded on my computer after installing the adobe add-on. I made sure the creative cloud folder is correct however when I go to my finder, I can't find the plugin zip file.
I've tried changing the finder preferences to show all extensions but I still can't find it. I saw in another thread somewhere about going to the module directory under the library/application support but I don't see the plugin there either.
Can someone help me please? I'd appreciate it!

Can you use a single webhelp file to display different help for two apps?

I have updated a WebHelp project for a Windows app (let’s call it App1). Now the Dev team is creating a separately installed app (lets call it App2) that shares some of the same Help information as the original app. Both apps can be installed on the same system. The Help for App1 is accessed from an About menu in the app UI. Some of the topics are dialog boxes accessed from a question mark icon (?) at the bottom of the UI (I assume map IDs are involved in hooking up the dialog box Help - I need to verify this with Dev). The Help for App2 will be accessed from the App2 UI, which looks very similar to the App1 UI, except that certain features in App1 are missing from App2.
Here are the parameters:
In some cases, entire Help topics will apply to both apps.
In some cases, a portion of a topic for App1 will also apply to App2.
In some cases, a topic or topic portion for App 1 does not apply to App2 and vice versa
I’m using Robohelp 9 (RH9). Is there a way to allow App1 to display only the WebHelp that is relevant to that app and for App2 to display only the WebHelp that is relevant to that app? Is there a solution that would allow me to use one Help project and build only one Help file, with the result that App 1 displays only the Help it needs and App 2 displays only the Help it needs? Would conditionalizing the Help and providing two sets of WebHelp be the solution? Or is there some other alternative?

You could do it in a couple of ways – one way is to have 1 project & use conditions to generate 2 flavours of WebHelp output, one for each App; the other way would be to use one project and create DUCC flavoured WebHelp – that way the use would choose to read the appropriate flavour of help for their App.

Theres almost a trick to it for first time users, goto SETTINGS...General......Cellular (if Verizon) ....Personal Hotspot, turn it on.....turn on wifi on your Mac, select your Iphone. Enter password.
If you take too long doing it, youll need turn turn off and on real quick the "personal hotspot" slider on the Phone.......then go quick again thur the Mac.

In this case I will allow only host 10.25.7.136 but it isn't work.
No internet connection from the TMG Server.

Help for Macbook novice

Hi, apologies in advance if this is the wrong message board.
I am trying to help a friend with his daughters macbook. I am not particularly savvy with Apple products, having kept to my windows system.
This particular macbook had an issue with its hard drive, the drive was ultimately replaced, as no OS ever came with the computer she is struggling with how to get it working.
I felt certain that if she purchased it new, then she of course has the rights to whichever version of OS came with it. But the question is how to get it back on there?
I have read many articles on here and other websites. I read about holding command, option and R and triggering some kind of online restore, but nothing happens when i try this. A friend gave me a disc that is supposed to be a restore disc for MAC OS X, we are not sure this is the right OS, which gets me into OS X Utilities, however when i try to install OS X, I get a message saying that it was "unable to download additional components needed to install MAC OS X" I did have the wireless active before doing this.
If it were a PC I would have it sorted by now, I am sure it cant be this hard. Hoping somebody on here can point me in the right direction.
