Tethering iPad2 to iMac launches unwanted photo app

Our iPad 2 with iOS 5.1.1 works great except for one thing---I have Nikon ViewNX 2 installed on my desktop Mac (iMac quad-core i7 2.93Ghz running 10.6.8) for managing my Nikon DSLR. When I tether the iPad to the iMac for backups, ITunes launches as it should be so does Nikon ViewNX2. Once the Nikon program is open with the iPad attached, it takes forever to quit.
Currently, I only use the iPad's photo capability for backing up images from the Nikon while traveling, using the Apple camera adaptor kit. That function is fine.
Are there any settings on the iPad that can stop NX2 from opening other than deleting it, which is not an option for my workflow.

Posting to confirm that Image Capture is the key.
After I finally got the iPad away from my dear wife and tehthered it, Image Capture showed NX2 as what should open on connectng. I changed the "Connecting this iPad opens..." field to "No Application":
and NX2 no longer opens unwanted, yet iTunes still launches when the iPad is plugged in.

IPhone -- launch the Photos app

Is anyone familiar with how to launch the Photos app (or a more generalized app launching that I could use to do that)? I'm aware of the URL method to launch certain apps, but I don't know of a way to use this for Photos.
I'm not trying to open a picker -- just close my app and open the photo library, like the bottm-left button does when you're in the Camera app.

Photo App Problem

Hello, Im using the latest vs of 10.10.3. When launch the Photo app the only pictures on it are pictures I took with mi iPhone or iPad. I thought the Pictures App was suppose to replace iPhoto and import all my pictures/albums? thanks

I have the same problem. None of the photos I took on my Nikon camera are in my iPhotos library after I completed the Photos App update. The only ones I see are the ones I took on my iPad.
When I clicked on the blue box "Get Started" in the new Photos app, I get the twirling 'processing' icon - it has been over 10 hours now. There were 500 photos from my Nikon camera that are missing from my hard drive.
I hope someone gives an answer to why this is happening and that these photos are still retrievable.

Photos app won't open???

I signed up for the 10.10.3 beta so I could get the Photos app. After downloading 10.10.3 and restarting, the Photos app is grayed out. When I try to launch the Photos app, I get an error message saying “You can’t use this version of the application “Photos” with this version of OS X. You have OS X 10.10.2. The application requires OS X 10.10.3 or later.
I tried to re-download the beta....same issue.
I submitted a ticket through the Feedback Assistant that comes with the 10.10.3 beta. After 6 days I haven't received a response.
Is anyone else running into this????

Can someone help me understand Photos app?

Hello I use the ipad2 which came with the Photo app already installed. I am quite happy taking and uploading pics to Photo but get very confused with how the app actually works.
Firstly the tabs, Photo - Photostream- Albums - Places. I place my photos into albums but have noticed there is already an album called Camera Roll which seems to be a duplicate of all my pics! Why? Then if I click on the Photo tab I seem to have all the pics again, annoying! Also if I delete a pic from an album it says deleting from album but keeping in photo library, what is this? I did download iPhotos as I wanted to do some editing but they gave me my pictures again!! I'm concerned that all this duplication will gobble up by memory, would that be correct? I have also tried deleting the original photo app and just using iPhoto or another app but it won't let me! I would really like to understand this app, any explanation would be appreciated, thank you

When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app. However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2. I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2.

Update: I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto"). This seems to have corrected the issue. I'm not sure why. Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.

Photo app not editing on iMac - nothing happens when I try to make adjustments or use the filters. Help, please!

mid-2010 iMac, 4GB, running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3. Thing just seems frozen in Adjustments and Filters, but will Rotate, Crop and occasionally Straighten. Sometimes will Retouch, but not at all times. Any thoughts?

Create a second Photos library, just for testing. To create the test library, hold down the alt/options key while launching Photos. Import a few photos for testing. Can you add adjustments in a new library?
If yes, than you have probably a library corruption. Try to repair the Photos library., but make first a backup copy of the library.
To repair hold down the alt/option and the command key simultaneously while double clicking the iPhotos application in the Applications folder to launch the Photos Library First Aid tools. Hold down both keys firmly and long enough, until the First Aid panel will appear. The select "Repair database".
if no, and the new library does not any work better, the GUI items may not work because of corrupted Preferences files.
The Photos.app stores the preference settings in a file in your hidden User Library. If this file has become corrupted, you can see all kinds of problems with the graphical user interface - missing menu items, etc.
To remove this file, do the following.
Quit Photos, if it is running.
Reveal your user library and delete this folder: ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Photos/
To reveal the hidden User Library:
Bring the Finder forward by clicking on the Desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock.
Select your user/home folder (with the house icon in the Finder sidebar)
With that Finder window as the front window, press the key combination ⌘J to bring up the View options.
In the View options panel enable ’Show Library Folder’. That will make your user library folder visible in your Home folder.
Open your Home folder, then the Library folder, then Containers.
Move the complete folder com.apple.Photos to your desktop. Move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Now restart the Mac and try again. If all is well, delete the folder from the Desktop.
Be aware, that removing the Preferences will reset all preferences you set using the Preferences panel in Photos. You will have to set them again. Also, Photos will not remember the location of your Photos library. If the library is not in the default location in your Pictures folder, you have to open it directly by double clicking it.

HT4597 Can I just choose which apps or photos to sync via iCloud since I don't want all of them in all my devices? I have all photos & apps in my iMac but only sync manually some of them to my iPad and to my iPhone. Can I still do this with iCloud?

I have 3 Apple devices - iMac, iPhone, and iPad. I am planning to move to iCloud from MobileMe. In iTunes, I just choose to sync whatever files I want my iPhone and iPad to have since they don't have sufficient disk space as my iMac.

With the exception of photo stream, iCloud doesn't sync your apps or photos between devices. You will continue to sync this content via iTunes in the same way as you do now.
Photo stream allows you to sync your most recent photos between all devices, you have the option to use photostream or not.

Can't open existing library with new photos app on iMac 10.10.3

I have upgraded my iMac to yosemite 10.10.3, with the new Photos app. I have been using iPhoto Library Manager to create and manage my libraries, which I store on an external hard drive.
Now, with the upgrade and new Photos app, some libraries open and I can access my photos without a problem, but other libraries don't seem to open. Instead, I get the new Photos windows with the demo slideshow, etc. I'm worried that the photos within the libraries I'm unable to open are now gone.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

How is the EHD formatted?
If the external hard drive is not formatted OS X Extended (journaled) Photos will not be able to open them. Actually iPhoto requires the volume to be formatted that way also but doesn't check the format before opening. Many users have been able to operated on EHDs that were not formatted properly for a while but eventually ended up with a damage/corrupted library.

Photo app in NEW iPad slow after restore from iPad2

I restored my iPad 3 from my iPad2 backup the other night. I synced over 12,000+ photos into my iPad3 and not only is the photo app extremely slow and unresponsive when browsing photo events in the Events section, but everything is out of order and no longer in chronological order like it is on the iPad2. Is this an issue that others are experiencing?

New iPhone photos not showing up on new Photos app on iMac

In the past, when I took a photo on my iPhone, within moments it would show up on Aperture on my iMac in the iCloud tab. This is not happening on the new Photos app on my iMac using the latest OS.
In fact, there is not an "iCloud' stream area within the Photos app. Also, under iCloud system preferences, I have selected "iCloud Photo Library, My Photo Stream, and iCloud Photo Sharing."
Not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

After USB is connected, iPhoto shows iPhone name with "(0)" photos.
Same whether iPhoto is open or closed before USB is connected.
Same whether iPhone is on or off when USB is connected.
Rebooting iPhone did not help.
Relaunching iPhoto did not help.

Photos app quitting at launch

Hi!
my photos app is quitting as soon as I launch it... I have a glimpse at my pictures (0,5 seconds) and then it closes...
I really don't know what I can do :'(

Have your tried resetting:

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Navigate to the photo sheet page (the one with the thumbnails) tap the edit button in the top right corner, tap the photos you want to delete to select them, tap the delete button in the bottom right corner.

Why does the new photo app not allow all the photos on my iMac to appear on iPhone and iPad?

New Photo App has over 9000 photos but only 180 or so appear on iPhone and iPad. Why. I have sufficient iCloud storage.

How did you import the photos?
Are the missing photos perhaps referenced? Then they cannot upload to iCloud.
You can check with a smart album, if you have any photos in the library, that cannot upload to iCloud.

How to put the "Photos" app in my doc on an iMac?
