Tethering issue lightroom 4.4 and Nikon D800

I'm having trouble tethering my Nikon D800 to Lightroom 4.4.
Attempts at tethering mostly produce "No Camera Detected" after File > Tethered Capture in Lightroom.
There have been some occasions however when the camera was detected and tethering functioned for a short while.
These successful occasions happened using the same approach and equipment.
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Version 6.1 (with i7) and both camera and Lightroom have been updated.
From Terry: [email protected]

Thanks for the help. I have made progress this way: I updated the drivers for the Nikon D800 on the computer. Lightroom and Nikon's ViewNX2 were already fully updated. This didn't help. I deleted NikonView, restarted, and found the problem gone. Lightroom tethers as it should without ViewNX2 on the machine. This is still a mystery to me but I can tether.

  • Camera RAW and Nikon D800/CS6

I upgraded to Photoshop CS6 from CS5.X and I can not open RAW files in Camera RAW for my Nikon D800.  It functioned properly in CS5 with the latest RAW release but won't work in CS6.

    You need Camera Raw 7.1...

  • CS6 and Nikon D800

My Nikon D800 and CS6 are not playing nice. I have updated CS6 and some of the updates have errors. I am getting U44M1P7 error message...whatever that means. I can load photos into Bridge. From there it goes thru a translation program that takes quite a long time. Ultimately, the photos showup in my CS6 on the top bar. I can not get them to thumbnail preview or into slideshow. I can view a selected photo, but can't do any editing. Any guesses? My Nicon D7000 works well with this software. I don't get what the problem could be.

Will CS6 and Windows 7 (32 bit) open Nikon D800 Raw files?
Yes, you just need to update Camera Raw to the latest version (7.1).
Also, beware of Nikon Transfer, which has been known to modify the D800 raw files making them incompatible with Camera Raw. Adobe Photodownloader does not have this problem.

  • Aperture v3.2.3 and Nikon D800

I have just received a new Nikon D800. Aperture and IPhoto both do not load all photos from the camera and many times the programs hand-up.
I have downloaded the latest add-on to be handle the Nikon D4.
    Any available solution?

    Hi Leighton,
also using a D800 and haven't experienced any problems with the image format after imports using Aperture 3.2.2. I import by using a standalone CF card reader and sometimes using the iMac build in SD card reader. I went back to 3.2.2 as 3.2.3 continuelly crashed (but there's another topic for that).
As far as I have noticed all images imported without problems and all the metadata does seem to be there. This includes the focus points except for images I took with manual focus. As I shoot and import more images I will keep checking and let you know if I do experience problems.
Did you retry to reprocess the masters when it failed to see whether it was a problem during import only?
Often editing of the D800 files is similar to editing D700 on my iMac 2009 model - with Intel i7 and 8Gb memory. But I sometimes experience extreme slowdowns while (mask) editing D800 files. Not sure yet when it pops-up. Especially while masking it sometimes freezes for about 30 to 45 seconds with a very high cpu load (between 400 and 600%) and it seems without any disk activity. If I redo the same operation it doesn't happen again.

  • When will a Camera Raw new version become available  for CS5 and Nikon D800 images ??  Any clues?

I understand that I have presently  an option to download the Beta version ACR 6.7  and it expires by May 31st.
Does this mean that a new ACR version will become available for regular automatic update on or before that date?
I just want to know when will I be able to enjoy processing  the images from the new Nikon D800   I hace CS5

I would expect Adobe to support the current version of LR with the current version of PS as usual.
Last time it was the opposite, but this time, LR4 with PV2012 came out, first, when CS5/ACR6.x was the current version so I would expect Adobe to release a final CS5-compatible ACR that knows how to render, but not adjust PV2012 recipes from LR4.  This is what ACR 6.7RC attempts to do but with some luminance differences with certain PV2012 toning sliders near their extremes.    Adobe rushed things a bit, this time, due to the D800 and 5D.3 cameras coming out about the same time and wanting to make big spenders happy sooner rather than later, so I expect they are taking extra time to get things right in the released versions of ACR 6.7, ACR 7 and LR 4.1.  With CS6 also coming out, and the economy still on the rocks in many areas of the world and country, resources are stretched thing, but I expect all will resolve in time.

  • Lightroom 4.1 and Nikon D700 in Tethered Mode

Lightroom 4.1 is not seeing my Nikon D700 in tethered mode.
(I'm on a big Mac Pro running 10.6.8.)
The Nikon has the latest firmware.
I have started the computer, the camera and the software in different sequences always getting the same result---No Camera Recognized.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

The D700 does not require a menu selection setting adjustment for tehtered shooting ... it is accomplished directly via the camera's firmware. Same for D800/D800e/D3s/D4 and the D300s ... and several other Nikon models ...
There were some problems reported for tethered shooting with OS X 10.6.8 that I don't think Adobe has addressed. Apparently Apple changed how USB connections are handled in that OS version, though other tether software options seem to work ok ... beyond that, you can use the Image Capture.app (found in your Applications folder) ... if the app recognizes the camera it will show the files contained on the camera card, secondly, if you go to File>Take Picture, it will open a dialog window that will allow you to actually trigger the camera with the space bar on the keyboard (or the camera's shutter release) and download the image taken to the folder you select in the option on the top right of the dialog ... If this works, then you know your camera and USB cable are working properly.

  • Lightroom 4 and Nikon D800

I am using Mac with Lion, Lightroom 4 and 6.7 beta ACR. I am converting  to DNG on import and none of my vertical shots are not automatically rotating to the correct orientation. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem?
    Thanks

Don't know about your camera, but on the D90 there is a menu option that has to be set in order to rotate tall.  Have you set that option?

  • Lightroom 3.6 and Nikon D5200 Compatibility

I have been using Lightroom 3.6 for a few years.I recently bought a Nikon D5200. I shoot exclusively in RAW. When I tried to import my RAW images, a message says it does not recognize the Nikon D5200. I tried converting my setting to import as DNG and it still doesn't work. Am I going to have to purchase a more recent version of Lightroom?

You have to install the DNG Converter on your computer it is a stand alone program and its only function is to convert raw files from supported digital cameras to the dng file format. You will have to somehow have the files transfered from your camera to a folder of your choice then you can use the DNG Converter to convert the files in the folder. To do this boot the program and then select the folder that contains the raw files. See attached screen capture.

  • Lightroom 2.2 and Nikon D700

I am using LR 2.2 for D700 NEF files, using camera standard profile however there are still strange color tints and the white balance is very difficult to nail, I need to adjust HSL separately for different colors, especially under artificial light. I cannot replicate Nikon Capture NX2 color accuracy and tones, any suggestions?

It looks like the Cryptobola website is down. try this link:
    http://www.netzwelt.de/download/11699-rawnalyze.html
It is for version 2.9.7.0...the latest version available was 2.10.4.0. I downloaded Rawnalyze 2.9.7.0 from the above site and the ZIP folder contains some other links. Just use the one (1) Rawnalyze.exe file, which checks OK on virus scan. If it doesn't open your camera's RAW file format, try converting to DNG. DNG files should work for any camera model and give the same RAW image view analysis, without any formatting. There is no manual in the download, but Rawnalyze is not to hard to use. Make sure you check the 'RAW Clipping' box. It will show both white and black point clipping.
You may also want to investigate Uniwb (Uni White Balance), which is a method for more accurate setup of your camera's histogram and highlight clipping warning.

  • My camera Nikon D800 don't work with Mac Book Pro retina... Why ?

Somebody Know why my digital reflex Nikon d800 don't work with Mac Book Pro retina ?

I shoot tethered which requires that the D800 be recognized by the laptop.
However, I just figured it out. Nikon changed their USB protocol so that the D800 doesn't show up as a mass storage device.  That said, the d800 IS recognized by image capture and be computer in general, just not like previous Nikon dSLRs.  If you're tethering via Lightroom make sure the Nikon tethering plugin is enabled (which it may not be if you previously shot tethered with Canon).

  • Lightroom 4 tethering unusable with Nikon D800

I am on LR 4.4 using Nikon D800E.
I had been using LR tethered with some intermittent locking issues since LR 3 with my Nikon D300.
About 4 months ago, I purchased a Nikon D800E and started to use it tethered (as I had done with the D300) with LR 4.
It would lock up consistently and I would have to reboot the computer to regain functionality. This would happen so many times during a shoot, that tethering just became unusable.
After much testing, It turns out that the problem occurs when the camera's buffer reaches zero. LR consistently is unable to recover from this zero condition. Periodically it will allow one more shot after a bit (as if it tried to recover), but the shot in LR has an esclamation mark by it as damaged data. And at that point it will never recover without a complete computer reboot.
I'm shooting with a team in studio - I can't have LR be this flakey - It is not acceptable to not be able to reach a zero buffer condition while shooting (I'm using Profoto and it can recycle faster than the camera can send to LR). It is not usable in its current state tethered with a Nikon D800. Just not usable.
I had to switch to using Nikon's Camera Control 2 (which functions perfectly and never has trouble recovering from a zero buffer condition), until Adobe can fix this significant bug.
Come on Adobe - Fix your software so it functions.
P.S. I also noticed that conveniently Adobe removed the functionality of their report a bug link.

After exhaustive testing (including trialing Phase One's Capture One Pro 7), it appears to be a bug in Adobe's SDK used in both LR4 and Capture One Pro 7.
    Here is the results:
Well this has been over a month of testing.
The problem is that the D800(E) can't recover from a zero buffer condition when shooting tethered with LightRoom 4 or Phase One's Capture One Pro 7.
It recovers just fine when using Nikon's own Camera Control Pro 2.
This started when I moved from the Nikon d300 which I had been shooting tethered with LR4 just fine, to the D800E. If I shot faster than the buffer and got the buffer down to zero, the next shot would produce a digitally corrupted image and then stop functioning. The buffer would not free up. It would take a reboot of the software to get it working again. Sometimes just turning the camera off and on would get things working again.
I was sure it was Lightroom, as I had tethering instability with earlier versions of LR. So I switched to using Nikon's Camera Control Pro 2 to tether and the problem went away. So I was sure it was LR. I also posted within the LR forums and another user experienced the exact same issue.
Today, I installed Phase One's Capture One Pro 7 software ( lists the D800E as supported for tethering - confirmed with a phone call to Phase One ).
Exact same issue. Exactly the same.
So, tomorrow I'm contacting Nikon because I'm thinking it has to be their SDK that they're providing to both Adobe and Phase One.
Oh and I also upgraded to the just released Nikon D800 firmware - no change.
If it's their SDK it means there's little chance of a solution in the near future, because first waiting for them to fix it and then waiting for the vendors to upgrade to the newest SDK release.
So apparently the ONLY way to tether with the D800 is Nikon's own tethering software, which although the tethering is reliable and fast, the viewing, etc is tedious at best.

  • Will Photoshop Elements 11 and Lightroom 4 support conversation of RAW files from a Nikon D800?

I'm currently using Photoshop Elements 9 and must convert RAW files from my Nikon D800 to .dng files before processing using a added converted.  I'm considering upgrading to either Elements 11 or Lightroom 4 but want to know if either of these programs will support the nikon D800 RAW files without having to go through this extra cumbersome step.   Additionally, if I do go with Lightroom 4, will the transition be easy or difficult and what problems might I encounter?

Yes the D800 is fully supported in both applications.
You would certainly benefit in processing your 36mp raw files using Lightroom if you have a 64bit PC or Mac with additional memory (RAM). The Lightroom develop module is where you do all the editing and you get the benefit of the full CS6 raw engine in an intuitive interface.
If you regularly use the Elements Organizer you should understand Lightroom quite easily.
Why not download the free trial of LR4 and test for 30 days.
