Tethering my Canon 5D

I am wondering if I am able to control aperture and shutter settings via Aperture's tethering feature? I'm going to have my camera up 15 meters in the air on a mast and I'm going to use Aperture to tether it...

Welcome
When my 5D is tethered, the only control I have is "Capture".
I would do some testing before that shoot. I don't know where you're going to get a 15 meter USB cable or if one that long is going to cause any connection problems.
FYI: Make sure the camera's communication mode is set to PC Connect.
Good luck

  • When will Lightroom 4 support tethering for Canon EOS 6D?

    Hi, all...
The Canon 6D is not in the current list of supported cameras for tethering in Lightroom. When will Lightroom 4 support tethering for Canon EOS 6D?
    Thanks
    Steve

To be clear: Lightroom 4.3 now supports Canon 6D Raw files
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/12/lightroom-4-3-now-available.html
Lightroom still does not yet support tethering for Canon 6D

  • Lightroom 4.2 stopped mid way through tethering with Canon 1DX.  any suggestions?

Lightroom 4.2 stopped mid way through tethering with Canon 1DX.  Top left corner bar read still transferring, but all images had already been viewed in preview of tether and i had given it an etxra 15 minutes to contine transferring until I rebooted everything.  I restarted several times while client waited, but LR would no longer accept tethered images any longer.  Any suggestions?

Well, the EOS Utility was incompatable with OSX for quite awhile and once LR appeared to support tethering, I migrated away from it. Until yesterday.
The workflow is still wonky, if you want to use LR for display/printing (which I do), but it's doable.
There are tutorials online, I remember finding them (sorry no links) years ago.
The main bugaboo is creating the appropriate folders in the right order. Both LR and EOS Utility are really picky about those folders (have to be empty, both apps picky about that, so you'll probably have to manually empty after firing off a couple of test images).
I always forget how I did it, but last night's kind of fresh in my mind — I think the order that worked for me was:
create a destination folder in EOS Utility
in LR's auto-import settings, choose the step #1 folder as the watched folder (you've got to do this before putting a single thing in that folder, which will likely mean manually tossing some test images, because if you don't LR will ***** at you that the folder must be empty.)
below that in the same window, create a Destination folder. (don't know why this is necessary, but it is)
Finally, I suggest doing all this in one parent folder and creating a shortcut to that folder somewhere very convenient so that you want drive yourself crazy in the inevitable opening, closing and reopening of these folders, trying to troubleshoot. :-)

  • Tethering with Canon EOS 450D

    Hello!
Is tethering with Canon EOS 450D even after the digital camera raw compatibility 2.6 still not possible?
    Regards,

Tethering with Canon EOS 50D also not Possible.
    Mac OS X 10.6.1
    Aperture 2.1.4

  • Tethering with Canon T3i and Canon T4i

Will Lightroom allow tethering with Canon T3i and Canon T4i ?

I upgraded the EOS utility to the latest version.  Now I can tether perfectly in lightroom 4.3 with the T4i.

  • Trouble tethering my Canon 1Ds mk II with Lightroom 4.1 on Mac OSX 10.6.8.

I had to get a Mac just to be able to use tethered shooting with my brand new 1Ds mk III (yes, brand new after 8 years not being used by it's previous owner, had 200 exposures on it)
Windows XP was not an option and Canon support told me that they never had any intentions towards supporting the Camera on Win Vista or Win 7 (even though these OSs were released when the camera was still the top end of their product line on the market!)
Long story short, I researched compatibility for Lightroom and found out, that 4.1 would be the last to support the 1Ds mk II. (Can somebody confirm that?!)
I bought LR 4 last year and am waiting for LR6 with my Win machine, so I installed LR 4 on the mac and denied any updates to be able to use my Camera..
The mac runs OSX 10.6.8, which is, to my knowledge, the last version to support the 1Ds mk II and it's EOS utility, etc. (How about that one?)
Sure, I should've bought the 1Ds mk III, considering all the money I invested just to be able to properly use the 1Ds mk II.. but that's not the issue here and if I should happen to have any success with my work, I will upgrade to a used 1Dx in a few years.
    To my problem at hand:
I installed LR4.1 on my mac and set up tethered shooting with the Camera connected to the mac. (It works fine with EOS utility too)
Camera with its settings is recognized by the tool and can be set off remotely.
Pictures are displayed and develop preset is applied.
However, sometimes it works just fine but then the camera stops taking pictures (Exposure is made, with AF, Shutter, etc. working fine, but pictures aren't saved to CF card nor transferred to Lightroom) Also, sometimes the camera isn't recognized anymore.. This happened repeatedly within 10 to 20 exposures, so not a rare issue here!
When I turn the camera off and back on, it sometimes does and sometimes doesn't work again..
same goes for the firewire cable that sometimes does and sometimes doesn't reset the tool when I unplug it.
I also sometimes noticed the CF-card LED continuously indicating whatever.. had to remove the CF card to stop it from doing that.
    In short:
What could be the problem with my setup and is there an easy way around that?
I really depend on this feature working properly.
    Your help is really appreciated
    Mischa

My camera is a 1Ds mk II..
and for that one it says
All versions tested. All versions tested. Supported only through Lightroom 4.1.
    however, it also says
Windows XP, Vista, 7; Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6
which is plain wrong, because Canon never supported any drivers for Windows Vista or Win 7, not to speak of XP 64bit. (You cannot connect the camera via firewire, without the device drivers!)

  • Tethered Capture Canon 600D/T3i and L/R 4

Hi, I asked the question back on the 11th March 2012 without a reply!! and ask it again now "Why is it still not possible to use the tethered capture option with a Canon T3i/600D"?
    I note that the
Canon EOS 5D Mark III — introduced with release candidate 1 (March 29, 2012)
    Canon EOS 60Da
are both included now but for the consumer who cannot afford 5D Mk IIIs Adobe have left them at the starting line.
There must be thousands of 600D/T3i owners who have also purchased Lightroom 4 and feel a little frustrated.
Yes, I no you can use the Canon software to access tethered capture but I own L/R 4 and would as a customer of Adobe prefer to use this option in L/R.
The camera has been on the market for some time so there really is no excuse not to have this option available.
    Thank You
    Russ

    Because it hasn't been implemented.

The 5DIII is NOT supported by the tethering module yet:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/tethered-camera-support-lightroom-4.html
I suspect the 60Da is (even though it isn't on the list) because it's just a 60D with a different IR filter and some different software.  It might not be, however, due to the different software.
There must be thousands of 600D/T3i owners who have also purchased Lightroom 4 and feel a little frustrated.
I suspect very few owners of the Rebel series are desperately in need of tethered capture.

Frankly, I'd rather use the Canon software than Lightroom even if it were supported within LR.  LR doesn't allow you control over any camera functions and it doesn't allow you to use LiveView.  It's just a remote shutter release with auto-import.

  • Tethering with Canon 5D2 or 1D3, still no support for either?

I have just upgraded to a 5D2 from a 5D and notice there is no tethering support. I have had my 1D3 for over 18 months and still no Tethering support. Is this me or does Aperture still not support the 1D3 or the 5D2?
    Anyone found a work around?

ya it is disappointing that Canon messed up by changing from standard protocols for tethering to proprietary ones without letting third party companies know the new protocols
you should be able to use the EOS tethering utility and hot-folder import method used for AP1 until Canon decides to let third party companies know the protocol

  • Tethering my Canon PowerShot S5 IS

I tried to tether my Canon PowerShot S5 IS to my MacBook today. I could connect and click capture and it would take a photo, but there was no way for me to aim as my camera display would not work while tethered. Neither was there a preview pane in aperture.
So I was having to click capture without being able to focus or anything. It took the picture, but it looked terrible as you might expect.
    Am I missing something here?

I don't know that the S5 IS is supported for tethering?

Might be via Automator workflow; I can't say that I've set this one up personally.

  • Tethering for Canon 1D mark III

    Hello,
Is there any chance, that we will get the Tethering Function in Aperture for the Canon 1D mark III series added during one of the next Aperture updates, soon?
    Regards,
    JO

There haven't been any announcements by Apple so who knows.
The issue isn't a trivial one, though -- the "standard" tethering protocol used by Aperture for tethering to older cameras does not exist on Canon's newest cameras. So Apple would have to do a lot of work specific to the 1D* Mark III cameras to support tethering.
I'd love to see it personally (I can tether with my 1D Mark II, but not my 1Ds Mark III), but don't know if/when it will happen.
Definitely submit feedback via Aperture. The more the merrier!

  • Tethering with Canon 5DMKII on Mac OS 10.6.8

Still having trouble with tethering the 5DMKII, has any solved this issue yet? Or do I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard!!?

If you have any windows computer then you can run the setup CD for this Print Server and configure it with an IP address. Alternately you can get the IP address of this Print Server from the DHCP Client Table. If you router allows static DHCP then you can simply get the MAC address of this print server from the bottom of the unit and configure the Static DHCP for this MAC address you don’t need to configure it with static IP at all.
Once you have setup the print server and assign the Static IP address, setup the ports on Mac OS.
On Mac OS, open System Preferences and select ‘Print & Fax’. Click on the "+" icon (lower left) to add a printer. Click on the IP Printer icon (top). Select "Line Printer Daemon – LPD" and do the following:
    •     In the Address field, enter the IP address of the Print Server.
    •     In the Queue field, enter L1.
    •     In the Name field, enter L1.
    •     Select the printer manufacturer from the pull down menu.
    •     Select the printer model from the scroll box.
    •     Click "Add".
A window should appear showing your newly added printer "L1". Click L1 once to select it. Then click "Printer Setup" (middle right). The Printer Setup window will open. Click on the "Installable Options" pull- down menu and select "Name & Location". The Name and Location window will open. Do the following:
    •     Change Printer Name to the IP address of Print Server
    •     Change Location to IP_[IP of Print Server]
    •     Click on Apply Changes.

  • Problems tethering my Canon Mark ll in Lighroom 4.2

I have been using Lightroom for a long time and used it with my Canon 5d and it all worked just fine.  Now wih my canon 5d mark ll it will not always reconize the camer and when it dose the camera shows a "Buzy".  I have gotten it work but then it quits.  I have restarted Lightroom, unpluged the tether cable  waiting for a time and then re pluging it back in.... no luck.  I though the camera was shutting down too soon when I got it going ( not offten) so I got a battery replacement ... ACK-E6 to keep the camera fired up all the time.... NO HELP.  Any thoughts would be apreaciated.
OK I have always kept up tdrying every thing I could think of...... SOLVED MY PROBLEM.. I was using a USB hub...... Now pluged in the back of the computer....... all WORKS!!  WOW....... I AM HAPPY.

    >[sorry, I don't know how to loadup images here]
Anna, you can't upload images directly to the Adobe forum, but must upload them to your own photo sharing site and then use a HTML link to the picture or the site.
If you don't have a photo sharing site, there are several free ones, such as
    eSnips, and
    Pixentral
If you need help with HTML, this site has a good :

    > Wait for Camera Raw 4.3...
Very interesting, Jeff. I'm sure you can't provide any further information at this time, but it would wonderful if ACR offered a full fledged noise reduction program such as Bibble does by incorporating the major functionality of Noise Ninja.

  • Unable to shoot tethered with a Canon 70D

I am trying to practice shooting tethered for an upcoming shoot. I am unable to get Lightroom and my Canon 70D to connect. I receive the dialog box shown below several seconds after attempting to connect. I went through all the steps on the "Troubleshooting tethered capture in Lightroom" and can shoot tethered using Canon's software. I am using Lightroom 5.3 on a MacBookPro 13 inch with 16 gb ram running system 10.9.1

Lightroom does not currently support tethering on the 70D.

  • Canon EOS 5D Mark II

I installed the aperture update for this camera, but I still cannot import RAW (CR2) files from my camera into Aperture 2
Does anyone have a solution for that?

    ???
the firmware is for the camera itself ... it has nothing to do with how the resulting files are imported to or viewed in aperture ...
the apple Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.4 allowed for decoding of 5dm2 (not m3) RAW files within aperture (and all of mac OS) ...
search this board for tethering and canon ...
i seriously doubt canon will change their protocol now just to make tethering work with aperture ... since they haven't yet for the 40d, 50d, 1dsm3, and 1dm3 ...

  • Shooting tethered, no images display in Lr...

    Hi,
I'm trying to shoot tethered using canon EOS 7D and Lr 2.7.
    Here are my settings:
    EOS Utility installed and set:
    Lr set:
The images appear in the folder "Final" on the Desktop but not in Lr....  Auto-Import is enabled.
    Any ideas?

It would seem to me that you want the "Destination" in the
Eos utility to be the watched folder in LR, which then moves them to the desktop.
    Just a thought.
