Tethering the iphone 5 (Verizon)?

Anyone know if its possible to tether the iphone 5 over the data cable? I know you can tether through wifi but thats not what i want? If tethering isn't possible with the cable how about tethering over bluetooth? I want to tether with a Windows notebook.
thanks,...

I'm having the same problem I think. With LTE personal hotspot on my iPhone 5 I can only get a max of 1.5-2 Mbps. I am also with Verizon and have unlimited data. When using my phone I average about 24mbps and when tethering to iMac I can only get about 2mbps. And it doesn't matter if I connect via wireless or USB cable. Also when I connect my iMac to my phone hotspot using wifi I constantly keep losing connection for some reason like every 5 minutes.

  • Can i get the iphone for verizon or just at&t?

pretty self-explanetory. i wanrt an iphone rediculously bad, but my parents wont let me switch over to at&t. is there any way to get one for verizon? or is there talk about expnding to different networks or can i only have an iphone with at&t?

Apple approached Verizon in regards to the iPhone at or about the same time as they approached AT&T - before the iPhone was a finished product. AT&T agreed to most or maybe all of Apple's demands/requirements for the iPhone before seeing the finished product - and from a computer company that had never produced a cell phone before. With Apple and Verizon not being able to come to terms, this left AT&T with not only being the largest carrier in the U.S. in regards to the number of subscribers at the time, but the largest GSM network provider in the U.S. Manufacturing a GSM iPhone only makes sense in regards to testing and support along with GSM networks dominating the overall worldwide market by a very significant margin.
If someone believes Apple is too controlling, Apple has nothing over Verizon. Unless Verizon does a 180 in regards to the control they exert and require with the phones they carry and with their business practices, I doubt the iPhone will ever be available with Verizon even after they have their LTE network up and running across most of the country. A couple of examples that would affect the iPhone - Verizon supports visual voicemail with a couple of phones that support visual voicemail access, which were introduced after the iPhone and Apple/AT&T incorporated visual voicemail with the iPhone. Verizon charges an additional monthly fee for visual voicemail access with the phones that support it. I believe the only way to have music on a Verizon phone is by purchasing music from Verizon's online music store. This would be a direct conflict with iTunes, which doesn't require purchasing music from the iTunes store to transfer music to the iPhone, and would leave Verizon completely out of the loop in regards to additional potential revenue that would be lost with the iPhone.

  • How to switch between 2 carriers with the iPhone 5 Verizon

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 5 from Verizon and I heard it was unlocked right from the box.
The first thing I did with it was use it in Canada with Rogers on their GSM Network, this means going through the activation process at the startup of the iPhone. I am currently still using the iPhone with Rogers.
Now since the iPhone is unlocked, I wanted to go back to Verizon for my trip back to the US, however; after popping the Nano-SIM into the phone, it doesn't read it. It indicates "No Service" at the top left of the phone and under Settings > General > About, The Carrier is listed as "vf nl 14.0". I believe it should be Verizon instead right? Under Network in About, it is also written "Not Available" and "SIM not provisioned".
Next, under General > Cellular > Cellular Data Network, the Cellular Data APN is listed as live.vodafone.com, which is probably some carrier from Europe. Same goes for the MMS and Internet Tethering.
Is it not suppose to be all Verizon when I put the Nano-SIM in?
When inserting my Rogers Nano-SIM, the Carrier shows as Rogers and everything works as it is supposed to work.
My model is listed as ND210LL/A which does not seem familiar to me at all.
Does anyone have any additional information about this? And how am I doing something wrong to get my iPhone to work with Verizon?
I do have an International Plan with the Verizon SIM.
Any tips or suggestions are appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Oakcapy

A Verizon iPhone is a CDMA phone, but it is the GSM part that is unlocked so that you can inert other sim cards in it for use.
It is my understanding that when you use it on Verizon, you are using the CDMA network, so you don't need a sim card in the phone.  Take the sim card out and you should then be able to use the phone on the Verizon CDMA network if the phone is registered with them.

  • HT5163 Does the iphone 4 (Verizon) have a way to remove sim?

I was giving my old phone to a friend.  I reset it but was going to remove my sim when I discovered it did not have a sime slot like my old ATT iphone.  Are they built into the Verizon phone?

The iPhone does not - not at the present time anyway.
With an IMAP account, this wouldn't be a problem since all server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account, including read message status, read messages that were forwarded or replied to, and you can store sent messages on the server so messages sent with each email client are available in the account's Sent mailbox with each email client used to access the account.

  • I am currently using the iPhone 5 ( Verizon ) to text another non-smartphone ( AT

As the question stated, that's pretty much the problem. At the end of most messages the receiving phone is getting messages with the @ sign at the end. Not sure exactly what the problem is. I appreciate the help greatly. Thanks!

No, but you do at least have to buy Snow Leopard. Whether you can run it depends on what iMac you have:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from download, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $30.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number.
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:

  • Different operations of the iPhone between networks

So I have a question or three.  The version of iPhone from AT&T has specific apps that differ from those available on the Android OS.  There are subtle differences between the networks as well.  How will this new Verizon iPhone differ from what ATT has offered?  Will it use the android OS and therfore be able to use those apps?  Will you be able to personalize this iPhone like other phones?  Will you be forced to use iTunes and other specific apps to the phone or will you be able to use something else.  I am just trying to figure out what advantages having the iPhone through Verizon will have for consumers other than the claim of "I have an iPhone'?

the iphone does not use android, its ios, apple
    you must use itunes
    you cannot customize
its basically the same phone tht att has, but with a diff radio(vzw is cdma, att is gsm)
all apps come from the app store
the advantage of verizon is the network

What is the best option for tethering my IPhone 4s with my iPad? (the iPad is wifi only)

#1. Understand that if you switch carriers, you can NOT take your existing iPhone with you. It won't work. You will need to purchase a new one.
#2. Your only choices are Sprint and Verizon. Decide who has the better coverage in your area. Keep in mind that you will NOT be able to get simultaneous voice and 3G data on either of these, as their CDMA networks do not support it. The U.S. T-Mobile network is not supported and is not fully compatible with the iPhone as it operates on a rarely used frequency compared to the rest of the world.
#3. What in the world are "niners"? Do you mean you want to be able to keep your existing "phone numbers"? If so, that should be no problem. Most numbers in the US are now portable.
#4. Consider WHY you want to switch. If the issue is really price, you're not going to see much of a difference. A few dollars a month at best for comparable voice and data plans.

  • Not only is the iPhone 6 unlocked, but the t-mobile phones work on verizon!

if someone makes a youtube video or writes a news story about my post, this time around i really would appreciate some credit.  saying rigor mortis  from apple discussions' is good enough.
it turns out that the iPhone 6 and 6 plus model numbers #1459 and #1522 are universal. and both have the CDMA radio enabled. However, Sprint models are still separate as far as i know. i did not test Sprint. but as far as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, go , it is the EXACT same phone. i was playing around with my iPhone 6 on launch day. i wanted to see if "ask maggie" was right and the phone was locked to a specific carrier. i tried the T-Mobile and AT&T sims that i had. they do not have service.
however when i inserted my LIVE and ACTIVATED Verizon Sim into my iPhone 6 , my iPhone suddenly became a verizon iPhone. i was able to Place and Receive calls using CDMA, i was able to use DATA services, and i was able to send SMS messages. i assumed that VoLTE was not enabled. and it  was not. i assumed
that you had to buy a Verizon model to get Volte. but i was wrong. it just took a while to activate. and i did see use VoLTE in settings, for Voice and DATA
however, since the IMEI and MEID serial numbers are not listed with Verizon, you are not able to either Sign up to verizon, or to transfer service to your new iPhone 6. your service is still tied to your SIM card. and when the iPhone 6 is running and active with your sim card, your device listed on "MY Verizon" will be shown as NON VZW device and it will only show the sim card. but a pre-activated sim card pulling from another device will work in the iPhone 6.
this is just like the iPad Air and the iPad Mini Retina. the only difference between these phones is the serial number is put in some list that tells someone which
carrier it supposed to belong to, and if it is locked or not. and which sim card came with the device. other then that. there are no technical differences between them. except for sprint of course.
whenever i inserted a new sim card into the iPhone 6, it automatically got carrier settings and changed its baseband.

the iPhones 5, 5c and 5s, were all shipped with CDMA disabled in GSM iPhones. this is the first iPhone ever to come out where the CDMA radio was not disabled. that is why i posted this thread. because a lot of people assume that the CDMA is still disabled and they are repeating things from previous models of the iPhone, without bothering to check. if i have offended you by wanting to post a message so more people would know what exactly that LTE page says then I apologize. Heck, I'm seeing a lot of web pages like modern reader that are still telling people they have to wait a few months for apple to release the unlocked iPhones.
    which is totally untrue.
here is a good thread where you can see people just assuming that the CDMA was disabled. and the phones had different base bands.
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=19926968&posted=1#post19926968
the iPhone 6 sees your sim card and as long as its unlocked, downloads the new baseband on the fly. i don't know if this is a new feature
with all the viral news about bend gate, i don't understand why you seem to want to criticize my positive post and suggesting that apple gives away this information. with all the bad news about bend gate and 8.0.1 bugs. its very hard for a single person like me to get a positive iPhone experience out and offer iPhone tips.
when the iPad air and iPad mini retina came out, the universal support of T-Mobile - Verizon - AT&T and even sprint (under some circumstances) was big news. but now that we have bend gate and iOS 8.0.1 and bloggers who are just copying and pasting what the other blog says. no one seems to notice that the CDMA is turned on.

I am on an iphone 4, verizon.  I tried to do a complete, backup and restore on the phone 1 day before i noticed this problem,  The backup finished but the RESTORE would fail I had an error, could not access Apple server ( some server name I cant remember).
I have plenty of space available on the iphone,

    ios version- 6.1.3 ( 10B329)
    carrier - Verizon 14.0

    Can someone help.
I tried doing my backup restore on the same computer as I once did a year ago. and THis time I cant do the restore on the iphone.
    computer osx is 10.5.8
    itunes version 10.
I do not wish to go to ios 7 at this time.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue continues, contact the carrier to troubleshoot the network connectivity issues.

We have had Verizon Wireless service since 2007. We have 6 lines on our account. Unfortunately in 2012 when I (903.647.0073) upgraded from the iPhone4s to the iPhone 5 I started having reception problems. I started having dropped calls in my home. I had to go outside to get reception without dropped calls. I was told that because of metal in my home I would have to purchase a Network Extender for $250. And we HAVE not metal in our home. AND our other lines all work fine. I felt this was ridiculous. We already pay $350+/month for service and I should NOT have to purchase additional equipment for a service that I already pay for. The manager of our local store at the time gave us at no cost a Samsung Network Extender. It worked beautifully until about a month ago. I went to our local Verizon store and was told that I would have to purchase an extender. THIS is RIDICULOUS. We have been loyal customers for over 7 years and have been very satisfied with our service. Unless this issue can be resolved without purchasing an extender we will be switching our service as our lines come up for renewal. I regret this as we have been very happy with our service. But we should NOT have to purchase anything extra for one line that will not get good reception. Again, we pay $350+/ month for a service that does not work properly, simply RIDICULOUS! Currently the "sys" light flashes red (slow) and the GPS light remains red. Please help this very frustrated customer.

Regardless with what carrier your with you might have the same issue, My recommendation would be to get a router that will help you with viewing live traffic and keep a tally of your usage and any device connected to your internet connection.  You can go with the peplink balance 20 and be able to look at your traffic by the hour, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.  Look for trends, see what computers or devices are doing what I attached a screen shot so you can see an example of mine.  You can purchase the router at 3gstore

My wife and I have a family account at Verizon and are thinking of both getting the IPhone 4S.  My question is can we both use all of the features of Icloud with one account at Verizon or do we need to have separate accounts?

If Mail in Mavericks is the same as earlier versions you can select accounts in the sidebar, so that you can either display the inboxes for individual accounts, or the contents of all the account inboxes. (If the accounts don't show click the disclosure triangle next to 'INBOX'). The layout may have changed since the version I have - Snow Leopard - but you should be able to do the same thing.

  • Will Verizon Be Unlocking the iPhone 5 for International Use with local carriers abroad like they do with the 4S?

Here is my situation. I am leaving the country on business in a month. Since it is pretty doubtful that an unlocked iPhone 5 will be available for pre-order tomorrow, I'll be buying one at full price under my verizon account (not due for an upgrade yet). Verizon currently SIM Unlocks the iPhone 4S if you meet certain requirements (account in good standing, active 60 days, phone activated on account, etc.) so you can use your iPhone abroad with a local carrier there for cheaper rates. Does anyone think Verizon will do this same procedure for the new iPhone 5? I understand that my new iPhone may not have 4G LTE capability abroad due to hardware limitations on different carrier models, however all new iPhone 5 models have quad band GSM/EDGE and 3G. Would I be able to use this feature if Verizon unlocked my iPhone? It should be noted I am not trying to unlock to use my phone on Tmobile or another US carrier, as with the 4S carriers put a block on this even for unlocked Verizon models. I am looking at this from the standpoint of a traveling business user (and I think there are a lot out there wondering the same thing). Nonetheless I will be preordering the iPhone 5 from Verizon and on release day I will call them and ask if they will unlock it. If they don't I will return it. I'll update my findings here for anyone else curious about this as well.

Egilbbys21... I am curious how things worked out with getting a nano SIM and your iPhone 5.  Our family will be visiting Manila this summer, and I would like to hear a first-hand account about your phone experiences.  Do you purchase minutes for call/texting?  What about data?  Any feedback you can give from your trip regarding your iPhone usage would be helpful.  Thanks!

  • How do you increase the voicemail volume on an iPhone 4s ( Verizon ). The phone volume is fine. It is when I retrieve voicemails. Even the speakerphone is faint. I have adjusted the side volume buttons and the volume control in settings. What am I missing?

How do I increase the voicemail volume on an iPhone 4s ( Verizon )? The phone volume is fine. I have adjusted both side volume buttons as well as the volume control in settings.

Number one - that person has given you false information...the Apple store genius bar supports all Apple products whether in or out of warranty.  Checking is free, service on an out of warranty item is not free.
Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
Since you show that you have iOS 7.0.3 you might want to update that iOS to 7.0.4...plug the iPhone in so you are on a solid power source, then while on a WiFi go to Settings > General > Software Update and update to 7.0.4.

  • When is Verizon going to offer the iPhone 4 8GB for free with 2 year contract extention?

Just wondering when this was going to happen.  My wife is due for an upgrade and I'd like t wait and get the iPhone 4 for free rather than paying 100 bucks right now and extend the contract for two more years.

Well, it's a simple question and I can tell you the answer you would get. "We have no information"
In general, businesses don't tell you "Don't buy now.  Wait X weeks and it will be cheaper".
