Tethering with Canon 5D2 or 1D3, still no support for either?

I have just upgraded to a 5D2 from a 5D and notice there is no tethering support. I have had my 1D3 for over 18 months and still no Tethering support. Is this me or does Aperture still not support the 1D3 or the 5D2?
Anyone found a work around?

ya it is disappointing that Canon messed up by changing from standard protocols for tethering to proprietary ones without letting third party companies know the new protocols
you should be able to use the EOS tethering utility and hot-folder import method used for AP1 until Canon decides to let third party companies know the protocol

  • Lightroom 4.2 stopped mid way through tethering with Canon 1DX.  any suggestions?

Lightroom 4.2 stopped mid way through tethering with Canon 1DX.  Top left corner bar read still transferring, but all images had already been viewed in preview of tether and i had given it an etxra 15 minutes to contine transferring until I rebooted everything.  I restarted several times while client waited, but LR would no longer accept tethered images any longer.  Any suggestions?

Well, the EOS Utility was incompatable with OSX for quite awhile and once LR appeared to support tethering, I migrated away from it. Until yesterday.
The workflow is still wonky, if you want to use LR for display/printing (which I do), but it's doable.
There are tutorials online, I remember finding them (sorry no links) years ago.
The main bugaboo is creating the appropriate folders in the right order. Both LR and EOS Utility are really picky about those folders (have to be empty, both apps picky about that, so you'll probably have to manually empty after firing off a couple of test images).
I always forget how I did it, but last night's kind of fresh in my mind — I think the order that worked for me was:
create a destination folder in EOS Utility
in LR's auto-import settings, choose the step #1 folder as the watched folder (you've got to do this before putting a single thing in that folder, which will likely mean manually tossing some test images, because if you don't LR will ***** at you that the folder must be empty.)
below that in the same window, create a Destination folder. (don't know why this is necessary, but it is)
Finally, I suggest doing all this in one parent folder and creating a shortcut to that folder somewhere very convenient so that you want drive yourself crazy in the inevitable opening, closing and reopening of these folders, trying to troubleshoot. :-)

  • No prob with 7, but where can i get support for my Logic 6? Nobody?

Hello everyone, My name is Aytekin Kurt and I'm a well-known producer in my country, Turkey with a career including a national No.1 and a dozen Top 10 tracks as a writer and a producer. What's more, I was in Oakenfold's Grammy-nominated (Best Electronic/Dance Album) Creamfields CD with my track "First Sight". I have been using Logic (since version 4.7) since 2000. I even gave lectures on how to use Logic in a pro production environment. Always a big fan of Apple (All my desktops, laptops, iPods over the years...) and Emagic. However, I'm about to go crazy with a Logic 6 issue and no-one's helping me out. This *****.
I have no problem with my Logic 7 (Support ID:R1CY2ABHRPW)
which I use in my studio with a PowerMac G5. It's amazing. What Apple and Emagic have done together to Logic is incredible. I love using it, which I do almost every single day. But, I also have a Logic 6 on my laptop (G4 15"). My XSKey had problems and I wrote to Emagic and asked for urgent help. Then, the key was working fine and I forgot about it. In a month's time I recieved a second key and was asked to send my old key back to Germany and then get access codes for the new key. Well, I did NOT do that, cause the old one was working and I was working everyday on 2 different projects.
Last week, when i was just about to upgrade to 7, I lost my first key. I kindly request Apple or Emagic to somehow help me and give me codes for the second key I have. So, I can activate my Logic 6 and then upgrade it to 7. But, Apple suggests (on the website) to contact Emagic. But, no-one replies to those e-mail addresses they put in there...
What do you suggest I do? This is frustrating. I need those codes. I guess without those codes, it's useless to go get an upgrade package, right? What kind of a support understanding is this? Where is the support for Logic 6? Since Emagic is NOT functional anymore, why doesn't Apple support us on former versions? Just help me upgrade to 7.
Any one with any ideas? Anyone knows how to contact Emagic? (rather than [email protected] or [email protected] and all the phone numbers we used to be able to call)
    Thanks in advance
    Aytekin Kurt
    [email protected]
P.S.: All of this might seem irrelevant on a Logic 7 forum, but I'm still a Logic (both 7 & 6) user and I tried everything else....

What version of the Mac OS is it running? That might narrow the search, It's easier to find stuff that runs under 10.4 Tiger than anything older. The only recently updated browser that still runs under 10.3.9 Panther is Camino 1.6.11, updated about a year ago. It's free and here:
    Camino 1.6.11
BTW, "where to get" questions around here are much more easily answered if you provide a geographic location. Otherwise people will load you up with links to places that may not ship to your location.

  • Still no support for multiple users!!

The only reason I recently updated to 5.0 is I was anxiously awaiting the addition of multi-user support to my Lenovo A10-70 tablet. I had bought it for my young daughter after she broke the screen on her Nexus. Well, without support for User Accounts, this tablet is useless to a parent. I cannot believe a large company like Lenovo does not offer this with its Android tablets!  Mark, Cleo, Serene, Lenovo admins - I hope you are reading this. I am also posting this on Amazon where I bought my tablet. Such a shame - great hardware but such poor software choices. P.S. Major issues with the new update to Android 5.0. WiFi does not stay connected. Many Google apps will not run, including Gmail!

Multi-user support is not common in tablets - so far, the ONLY tablet I have found with solid multi-user support is the Galaxy Tab/Note 4 (and even it has issues if you mis-configure it).  (Why do I refer to the Tab/Note 4?  Yes - the Note 4 is a phablet, and is typically sold via providers AND has a taller resolution than the Tab 4; those are, in fact, the ONLY differences between the Tab 4 and Note 4.  They have common features otherwise, and even their updates are released simultaneously.)  Lenovo even did the same thing with the A-series - compare their phablet models (G, GV, and H) with their wireless-only F models - you'll find so many commonalities it's not funny.  It's the phablets that are getting all the update love (especially when it comes to Lollipop); tablets (F subseries), not so much. Also, phablets are huge in Asia and India (look at sales of the G, GV, and H - the forums HERE are also rather obvious in those reporting successful updates - they are all from Asia or India); Lenovo doesn't push phablets in Europe or North America.  (I have no idea whether it is provider resistance or not.)  If you want solid multi-user support as a parent, look to Samsung (simply because they actually implemented it properly, which most tablet OEMs aren't going to be bothered with - it's not a knock specifically on Lenovo, because it's not specifically a Lenovo issue). On the Lollipop update issue; how many of us are still soldiering on with the same amount of storage that our tablets came with?  (I'm referring mainly to us F-subseries folks.)  The thing about the F subseries is that they all have small - if not downright miniscule - amounts of usable eMMC storage; out of the 8GB of eMMC storage the device has, only half that - 4GB - is usable from the start.  And every app you install, and assorted things that go along with it, eats into that.  Look at the size of the UPDATES that are being reported; S000023 alone is nearly 200MB.  The big combo updates - and if you're coming merely from S000020, which is the North American starting place for the F - you're talking nearly a gigabyte just to get to S000027 - do you have that much usable storage?  We may well have to bite the bullet and install medium or large (16GB/32GB) microSD cards in our tablets just because of the update-size issue.  (It's not like 16GB microSD cards are all that expensive, even retail - I see them at the local Best Buy for - at worst - $15 for SanDIsk Ultra - that's the high end brand of microSD card.)  We may be getting those "you have the latest version" due to available-space constraints - I've seen it happen on space-coinstrained WINDOWS PCs often enough.

  • Still no support for Leaf Aptus digital backs in 10.4.7

This product just cracks me up. No reasonable video card upgrade path for us early Quad owners (a total ripoff) and no support for high end digital backs. This is turning into a really bad joke. Apple is totally clueless about supporting professional photographers other than wedding and sports shooter. Lame. This is clearly geared more to the prosumer market rather than real working pros with multiple cameras for different requirements. This whole experience has left a really bad taste in my mouth after supporting and using Apple computers since the Apple IIe.
Joe if you're reading this is there any chance that Aperture will EVER support the Leaf backs? If not I'm going to stop wasting my valuable time on this product.

lawrence I'm sure you'll be excited though that though there is no support for high end digital backs, or Fuji S3 - that there is however support for the C7070 and other compacts. Thank goodness, we can now work.

  • Still no support for Pentax K20D RAW???

I could understand if the camera was just announced, or just came out last week, or even last month - but this camera has been on the market for 3 months now! C'mon Apple!
Any word about when we might see support for RAW files from Pentax/Samsung CMOS cameras in Aperture or even iPhoto? Adobe is already there...

I totally agree. PEF is matched to the new CMOS sensor and you are right, the files are considerably smaller. I really hope Apple will support PEF. I have sent feedback, but I imagine if there isn't much call for it, they won't feel it's urgent.

  • Tethering with Canon 5DMKII on Mac OS 10.6.8

Still having trouble with tethering the 5DMKII, has any solved this issue yet? Or do I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard!!?

If you have any windows computer then you can run the setup CD for this Print Server and configure it with an IP address. Alternately you can get the IP address of this Print Server from the DHCP Client Table. If you router allows static DHCP then you can simply get the MAC address of this print server from the bottom of the unit and configure the Static DHCP for this MAC address you don’t need to configure it with static IP at all.
Once you have setup the print server and assign the Static IP address, setup the ports on Mac OS.
On Mac OS, open System Preferences and select ‘Print & Fax’. Click on the "+" icon (lower left) to add a printer. Click on the IP Printer icon (top). Select "Line Printer Daemon – LPD" and do the following:
    •     In the Address field, enter the IP address of the Print Server.
    •     In the Queue field, enter L1.
    •     In the Name field, enter L1.
    •     Select the printer manufacturer from the pull down menu.
    •     Select the printer model from the scroll box.
    •     Click "Add".
A window should appear showing your newly added printer "L1". Click L1 once to select it. Then click "Printer Setup" (middle right). The Printer Setup window will open. Click on the "Installable Options" pull- down menu and select "Name & Location". The Name and Location window will open. Do the following:
    •     Change Printer Name to the IP address of Print Server
    •     Change Location to IP_[IP of Print Server]
    •     Click on Apply Changes.

  • Aperture 1.1......still no support for Fuji S2 and S3 Pro!!!!

I just got the 1.1 update but i was devastated to see that Aperture is still not opening the Raw files of two of the most used camera among professional:Fujifilm S2 and S3 Pro!!!
Even if i convert the files in DNG it doesn't support them
I would like to know how can Apple describe Aperture as "Designed for Professional Photographer"..............
Just look around, all pro application like Capture One or Camera Raw support those cameras, even the beta version Adobe Lightroom does it
There are not excuse for this..... not anymore
    Thanks
    Ettore

Ettore, It is clear that 2 things shape the Apple
product pholosophy with "pro apps"; A total
disregard of anything that does not guarantee a
corner on the market and support of any system that
does not lead directly to a hardware sale. The very
poor handling of the bugs/deficiencies of Aperture,
the poor (read nonexistent) communication with end
    users
You mean like the mesages from Joe Schor on this forum? Or the whole web page announcing 1.1 features? Those non-existant communications?
and the total disregard of what real
    professionals tell them
You mean like focusing the 1.1 update on better RAW conversion quality, performance, and the addition of DPI features everyone was asking for?
Given that Apple cannot fix every single problem I'd say they worked on exactly the problems bedeviling the most users.
The disregard for Fuji RAF files is
    not surprising in that context.
No, it's not surprising because (a) it's not Canon or Nikon, which most professionals are using, and (b) because the Fuji sensor is unlike other sensors and is therefore not quite as easy for Apple to use similar conversion techniques.
    The same can be said
of Bibble and others, and their lame protestations to
the contrary will fall on deaf ears. Like you said,
Lightroom, which is still in beta supported fuji raw
    right from the start.
Which is because (for better or worse) Lightroom sits on top of the ACR conversion engine that has been in development for something like three or four years! Give Apple a little time to add other cameras, in the meantime bug Fuji to push Apple to add support!
    <...>
The geniuses at Apple will find
that working pros pick the tools that help deliver
    the goods to the client
    <...>
Yes they will, which is why Aperture has been so popular and will be even more so with RAW conversion quality addressed.
    <...>
Thank goodness their are other software products
available that come from companies that DO listen to
    their customers.
    <...>
Yes, like Apple. All indication are that they do indeed listen to user feedback (indeed Apple reps themselves have said so) and the end results of updates also indcate they are listing. At PMA every single half hour presentation ended with "Send us feedback because we are listening".
I don't think it's fair to tag Apple with being hopelessly out of touch with users just because they will not fix the only problem you care about.
My camera is not supported by Aperture either, but I realize the reality of owning a camera that is not Nikon or Canon in today's market. Until then I simply import 16-bit TIFF images into Aperture and use it from there. Not having your camera supported directly is not really that great a limitation.

  • Still no support for MKV files??

I read that the new Quicktime X can't play MKV files even with Perian installed. Aren't we almost in the year 2010 and Quicktime still can't play HD MKV's on it's own? So what do I do? Install QT 7 over again? MKV's should be fully supported by now because they are the most common HD file type on the internet. Get with it Apple developers!
    Message was edited by: Keygenerator

    Hi,
I have a question about HD (720 and 1080) mkv's. I installed Niceplayer so Quicktime X is now able to play mkv's. BUT! The main reason I want Quicktime X to play mkv is because most of the HD content is in mkv. My problem is is that HD content (720 and 1080) stutters like crazy. This is quite strange because when I use Plex it plays very smooth. Okay I agree that I can use Plex instead of QX but I prefer to use mac programs. The stability and usability of native mac programs is one of the main reasons I bought a mac in the first place. And the fact that Q7 stutters while playing 1080p content was one of my main reasons to immediately upgrade to Snow Leopard. So my question is, are you guys working on this? Because I can't really get why a freeware program is able to play the content while such a "sophisticated" program as QX isn't?
I love mac, but this is really a problem I like to see being solved soon.
    Regards
    Nick

  • Still no support for iOS devices or non-Safari browsers

Been a while now and still the new format doesn't support iOS devices - no formatting bar or ability to edit post.  Still, alternative browsers, e.g. iCab and Atomic, have different issues like format bar does appear but keyboard doesn't.
Should we be expecting an update sometime soon?

I cant find it now, but i saw a post by an apple corp poster saying that this was done purposefully to ensure a "solid" release, or something like that. Basically, iOS devices arent considered a significant user base to be worried about giving VERY limited functionality to.
They basically said that it would be developed into future updates, but with no timelines. Sounded to me like it would be a VERY long time before we get anything above basic text editor abilities. No wait a second, basic text editors can do BOLD! We cant even do that.

  • Still no support for N85 & N79!! - Isn't Nokia the...

Now this is the limit! Not that i rely on this feature a lot. But the attitude is inexcusable. For what reason has the compatibility not been achieved?
Both phones have received a FW upgrade, had their been any issues with the FW should have been resolved with them.
    A really poor show.

If you mean Ovi support, it's incredible that is advertised and still it's not supported
If you mean the firmware upgrade, yea it didn't solved any of my problems. The photo queality it's awful.
I think Nokia has forgotten N85 users and is too busy with other phones.

Hello,Here in Panama we have been waiting to receive support from Paypal for at least 7 years now, this is frustrating. As merchants we can't do anything. We can send payments but not the other way around.Costa Rica, Colombia and even Venezuela for the love of God have full Paypal support, what about Panama? We use the USD as national currency, the Americans have been here before 1903 and we are still begging for support from you guys... When are we going to receive support as Merchants from Paypal in Panama? Thank you, Bob

I just hung up with Paypal business support, and the person answering my questions just told me that Panama bank accounts can be added to my Panama-based Paypal account, he sounded very savyy and diligent, yes, but.....I tried and is a NO GO. I will keep my Skrill account open..... Bob

  • Ver 4: Still no support for Includes or Design Time Stylesheets?

Wow...well, without either of these I can't make use of this
product. I guess I'm confused at what types of users this product
may be marketed toward, although with the amount of focus put on
Blogs and Blogging and lack of focus on requests already made in
this forum for some time I'm getting a better idea. Hey, if they
want to "dumb this down" and make it a price point product that
purposely sits lower on the totem pole than Dreamweaver, then I
think that ought to be made more clear in the marketing materials.
I guess what's frustrating is that it's touted that it "uses the
Dreamweaver HTML Engine" but can't implement a feature like Design
Time Stylesheets? Would this put it too close to Dreamweaver in the
product line? I certainly don't think so but if it did implement
such a feature it would increase the demographic that could make
use of such a great product as many users are not going to rewrite
Includes OUT of their existing sites just to be able to use it.
Most intermediate to advanced designers will almost always,
and have been taught, to use includes to minimize page changes in
multiple places...it's such a common thing to do. But unless an
included page can be edited inline I have no way to turn my users
loose with this app. It seems reasonable to implement Design Time
Stylesheets like Dreamweaver does in which case, the users could
edit the included page directly and at least see it like it should
look with formatting which they can't do now because of the lack of
an applied stylesheet when opening the include file directly.
Do they expect that once we've written a site using includes
we should have our content providers use Dreamweaver? I don't know
about the rest of you but that's asking for a heck of a lot of
    trouble turning non-designer/developers loose with
    Dreamweaver...even using Templates.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just a bit frustrated as I really
need an app that can let me make use of "Content Providers" in our
company. And don't get me wrong, I'm a long time Macromedia/Adobe
supporter...just hoped something would happen with v4 that didn't
and was pretty sure it would based on user input on this and other
    forums.
If anyone has ideas on workarounds for this problem I'd love
    to hear!
    Thx,
    Mike

Hi. I'm going to reopen this thread instead of starting a new
one. Maybe someone here can help me figure out how Contribute can
    solve my client's editing woes.
His site is built in ColdFusion, with template information
that's stored in the database for each page. Currently this is what
    happens, simplified.
    1. User requests /foo.cfm
    2. Database looks up header, footer, and template to use for
/foo.cfm, or the page can use "no template" in which case
whatever's in the page gets put between the header and footer.
    3. The template or the page will contain one or more
"editable regions", to use a Dreamweaver term. These blocks of HTML
are pulled out of the database, and can currently be edited within
the CMS by a browser-based WYSWYG editor.
The problem is, the WYSIWYG editor in question isn't up to
the task. Contribute seems to be, but I can't figure out how to fit
it into a workflow compatible with this site!
We don't use Dreamweaver and from what I've seen Dreamweaver
templates aren't going to work in this application. It seems that
if you make a change to the template, Dreamweaver has to go and
update all 800 pages that use the template ... ??!? ... if so,
    lame.
I don't mind pulling out all the HTML content snippets from
the database and making a "database" on the filesystem of files
that can be edited in Contribute. No problem. One of these snippets
may be a "contact us" box or something that's used on 100 pages
throughout the site, so I'm not going to put stuff like that
    separately on every page.
If I do this, though, my snippets when I open them to edit
them in Contribute are missing their CSS. This is because the CSS
is set up in the header file, which is not included in the snippet
HTML, obviously. The snippets also won't have the header and footer
navigation and stuff, but I can live with that.
How can I get the CSS to show up for my client when he edits
    the HTML snippets?
The only solution I can think of is to put a stylesheet
include into every snippet, and then pull that out with a regular
expression from EVERY include at runtime whenever I display that
HTML to the end user. Talk about a gross, ugly, non-extensible
hack. Please tell me there's a better way...
    Thanks for reading,
    - Andrew.
