Tethering with Canon 5DMKII on Mac OS 10.6.8

Still having trouble with tethering the 5DMKII, has any solved this issue yet? Or do I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard!!?

If you have any windows computer then you can run the setup CD for this Print Server and configure it with an IP address. Alternately you can get the IP address of this Print Server from the DHCP Client Table. If you router allows static DHCP then you can simply get the MAC address of this print server from the bottom of the unit and configure the Static DHCP for this MAC address you don’t need to configure it with static IP at all.
Once you have setup the print server and assign the Static IP address, setup the ports on Mac OS.
On Mac OS, open System Preferences and select ‘Print & Fax’. Click on the "+" icon (lower left) to add a printer. Click on the IP Printer icon (top). Select "Line Printer Daemon – LPD" and do the following:
•     In the Address field, enter the IP address of the Print Server.
•     In the Queue field, enter L1.
•     In the Name field, enter L1.
•     Select the printer manufacturer from the pull down menu.
•     Select the printer model from the scroll box.
•     Click "Add".
A window should appear showing your newly added printer "L1". Click L1 once to select it. Then click "Printer Setup" (middle right). The Printer Setup window will open. Click on the "Installable Options" pull- down menu and select "Name & Location". The Name and Location window will open. Do the following:
•     Change Printer Name to the IP address of Print Server
•     Change Location to IP_[IP of Print Server]
•     Click on Apply Changes.

  • Lightroom 4.2 stopped mid way through tethering with Canon 1DX.  any suggestions?

Lightroom 4.2 stopped mid way through tethering with Canon 1DX.  Top left corner bar read still transferring, but all images had already been viewed in preview of tether and i had given it an etxra 15 minutes to contine transferring until I rebooted everything.  I restarted several times while client waited, but LR would no longer accept tethered images any longer.  Any suggestions?

Well, the EOS Utility was incompatable with OSX for quite awhile and once LR appeared to support tethering, I migrated away from it. Until yesterday.
The workflow is still wonky, if you want to use LR for display/printing (which I do), but it's doable.
There are tutorials online, I remember finding them (sorry no links) years ago.
The main bugaboo is creating the appropriate folders in the right order. Both LR and EOS Utility are really picky about those folders (have to be empty, both apps picky about that, so you'll probably have to manually empty after firing off a couple of test images).
I always forget how I did it, but last night's kind of fresh in my mind — I think the order that worked for me was:
create a destination folder in EOS Utility
in LR's auto-import settings, choose the step #1 folder as the watched folder (you've got to do this before putting a single thing in that folder, which will likely mean manually tossing some test images, because if you don't LR will ***** at you that the folder must be empty.)
below that in the same window, create a Destination folder. (don't know why this is necessary, but it is)
Finally, I suggest doing all this in one parent folder and creating a shortcut to that folder somewhere very convenient so that you want drive yourself crazy in the inevitable opening, closing and reopening of these folders, trying to troubleshoot. :-)

  • Tethering with Canon T3i and Canon T4i

Will Lightroom allow tethering with Canon T3i and Canon T4i ?

I upgraded the EOS utility to the latest version.  Now I can tether perfectly in lightroom 4.3 with the T4i.

  • Tethering with Canon 5D2 or 1D3, still no support for either?

I have just upgraded to a 5D2 from a 5D and notice there is no tethering support. I have had my 1D3 for over 18 months and still no Tethering support. Is this me or does Aperture still not support the 1D3 or the 5D2?
    Anyone found a work around?

ya it is disappointing that Canon messed up by changing from standard protocols for tethering to proprietary ones without letting third party companies know the new protocols
you should be able to use the EOS tethering utility and hot-folder import method used for AP1 until Canon decides to let third party companies know the protocol

  • Premiere (Shooting Video with Canon 5Dmkii)

    Hello all,
This weekend I had the chance to shoot at a parade here in NYC.  I had stage access and decided to shoot video with my DSLR.  I rarely shoot video but usually am okay with the video quality.  My problem tho is not with the video but with the audio.  I am not rigged for professional style video capturing and only have what the camera has built in.  With that said all of my audio was recorded from the camera's built in mic.  I was also standing directly behind the speakers so the audio levels are very high in the Bass and pretty low on the Mids & Highs.  First should I be doing my audio adjustments in Premiere?  If so what are the best methods or Effects to use to gain my levels.  If Premiere is not the best choice for this I do have the CS5 Master Suite 9is there another app that should be used?)
As always thanks in advance for any response and help/direction provided.

    Bill, Harm,
Thanks for the responses.  I do have soundbooth.  Question then is can I modify the audio without losing any sync between audio and video.  When I open the file in soundbooth with it overwrite the audio portion of the file only?

  • Mac will not work with Canon EOS cameras

My imac OS X 10.6 is not working well with my Canon EOS 5d Mark II camera on the tethered mode. The camera works well with other Mac computers, and I have spent hours with Canon tech help. It now seems that the issue may be with the computer. The EOS Utility is working, everything has been updated, all Canon checkpoints look good, but when I use the camera, the image does not transfer. And then everything gets locked into a loop and I have to crash the camera and force quit the program. Is there something in the computer that may be blocking the transfers? any ideas where to look? Canon has done everything on the camera side, but I don't know where to begin with the computer.

OH, ok. So the issue is with transferring the image from the camera to the computer. Since you said you have done everything possible with canon, the camera's firmware is completely up to date, you have the correct software installed. Since you say no cameras work with this computer I am inclined to say the problem is from the computer, which is why the problem exists. I'd do an apple hardware test and see if anything turns up. Clean install of the canon software would also be a good idea.

  • Unable to shoot tethered with a Canon 70D

I am trying to practice shooting tethered for an upcoming shoot. I am unable to get Lightroom and my Canon 70D to connect. I receive the dialog box shown below several seconds after attempting to connect. I went through all the steps on the "Troubleshooting tethered capture in Lightroom" and can shoot tethered using Canon's software. I am using Lightroom 5.3 on a MacBookPro 13 inch with 16 gb ram running system 10.9.1

Lightroom does not currently support tethering on the 70D.

  • Is there a way to edit raw files from the Canon 5DMkIII in Lightroom 2?

I rented a Canon 5DMkIII this past weekend and shot in RAW. I'm running Lightroom 2.7 on my laptop because I have a pre-Intel dual-G5 tower at home and can't run LR3 or LR4 on a pre-Intel chip machine and I tend to share my libraries across my laptop to my tower and back (so I need to be able to open the LR files on both machines, which is why I'm still using LR2 ... I know, I know, I need to upgrade but that's going to be a hefty investment!)... In the meantime, I'm wondering if there's a way to view/edit the raw files in Lightroom? They won't even import (I get the message upon import attempt: "Some import operations were not performed. (97)")... I know the information is there, though, because I used PhotoMechanic to do the initial sort of my images that I wanted to keep/edit. I see there's ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 6.7 (I think it is) that supports the 5DMkIII, but I'd prefer to edit across the board in Lightroom, it's so much faster. Is there something I can download to still edit my raw files in LR2? Or, do I have to buy the update and get LR4 if I want to edit my 5DMkIII RAW files? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Support for the canon 5d Mk111 was introduced in LR 4, ACR 6.7 so you will have to use the Adobe DNG Converter 6.7 or later to convert the raw files to dng format before you can import and work with the files in LR 2. The converter is a free download from Adobe and is available at this link.

  • Tether mode with Canon 40D

    Hi Guys,
I Can't get my Canon 40D connected with the tether mode in Aperture. I rode in topics from early 2008 Aperture didn't supported Canon 40D. I was wondering if someone knows more about this and/or have a solution for this problem.
    Thanks in advance!

I submitted the following on the Apple Feedback page. Feel free to copy and paste, and do the same thing.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Ever since upgrading to the newest version of OSX, I'm having a problem tethering my Canon 40D to my Macbook using the Canon EOS Utility. After doing a number of searches on various photography and Mac forums, this is a common problem that seems to be a problem with OSX, not the Canon Utility. This is a VERY frustrating problem, and more can be read about it here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8741896
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8832865
    http://photo.net/canon-eos-digital-camera-forum/00IMwB
And a number of other places.
I'm using a Canon 40D with OSX 10.5.6 on my Macbook. When I plug in the camera to the laptop and launch EOS Utility, sometimes it will launch properly, but as soon as I take a few photos or start adjusting settings, it'll start slowing down, then I'll get the spinning beachball of doom requiring me to force quit the EOS Utility. This is getting INCREDIBLY frustrating, as it's supposed to be a functionality supported by both Canon and Apple. I've also tried using the Aperture 2 Tether feature, but it doesn't support the 40D. I would really like to see either Canon or Apple take some responsibility for this problem and get it resolved soon.
Apple, please listen - your customers are begging for your help with this.

  • Lightroom Tethering 1D Mark II N Mac (Yosemite)

Hi, trial version of LR expired -- don't tested tethering with my Canon EOS 1D Mark II N on Firewire to Thunderbolt on my Mac, anyone any experiences? Doesn't work with USB.

    maltescot wrote:
Okay, do you think or know that it works with the 1D Mark II N?
Just so that you understand how Lightroom tethering support works: it is based on something called a Software Development Kit (SDK) which the camera maker provides. This contains the code which Adobe needs, and adds to Lightroom, so that Lr can tether to the camera.
Canon dropped your camera from its SDK around the time of Lr 4. So after Lr 4, no tethering support.
So Lr 5 can still read and import/export the CR2s from the 1D Mk IIn, but it can't tether to the camera.

  • Tethering with lightroom: performance issue

    hi guys,
i am shooting raw, tethered from a canon 5d mark II, directly into lightroom 2 on a macbook pro.
even though i am maxed out on RAM and, running no extra processes, and using a USB2.0 cable
the whole setup is slooooooooow as hell...
    my questions are:
    - what is holding the system back? is lightroom simply not optimized for tethering?
    - are there ways to improve performance for the mac?
    moreover,
has anyone created a comparison table to show the options for tethering, with cost, benefits and drawbacks?
if not, maybe we can do so here with this post.
    best wishes,
    ~nir pengas.

    nir.pengas wrote:
    - what is holding the system back?
It's the Mac implementation of Canon's software and the Apple USB 2 connection. Want to seriously speed up tethering on a Mac? Install Bootcamp and run Windows. And, if you think I'm kidding, I'm not...it's what Martin Evening does. On a Mac (running OS X), a Canon 1Ds MIII takes about 9 seconds to transfer. On Windows (on the exact same Mac mind you), the transfer speed is just a bit under 2 seconds...
So, go ask Apple and Canon what's up with the USB 2 connections under OS X...

  • Printing with PSE 8 for Mac

    Hi,
hope some of you may give me some help.
Have tried to print with PSE 8 for Mac, but in the printing options there is none where i can choose the type of paper (ie: glossy, premium glossy....).
My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 1400.
It works fine with iPhoto, here i can choose paper type. And prints come out fine.
    Thanks for any advice,
    dangerly

My printer is a Canon so not entirely sure if this helps but when I print from PSE 8 I do not get to choose the media type until I have clicked on the print button in the PSE dialog box. I am then presented with the dialog box for my printer where I can set the media type amongs other attributes.
It is normal for the media type to be the job of the printer driver so perhaps it is the same for your printer.

  • Can No Longer Scan With Canon MG5220 But Printing Works Fine

    Hello,
I have not had luck with Canon so hoping my Apple community can come through for me   Here is my problem.  I have a Canon MG5220 "all-in-one" that I am able to print to just fine.  I was able to scan a year ago but something has changed and I am no longer able to scan.  I have all the Canon software and the error I get is as follows when using MP Navigator 4.0 EX:
"Error 2.10 -  Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner is turned off. Check status."
I have deleted and re-added my printer several times but that has not done anything.  I believe there was a time in the past when it was scanning properly that I had a separate printer icon under "Printers" on left of  "Print and Scan" sscreen for the scanner but not sure (can someone confirm?).  Regardless, I only have one now.
My printer is connected as follows: MG5220 is wireless to my FiOS Actiontec router and then hardwired Ethernet to iMac. I have turned Wi-Fi status on and off o Mac and that has not made a difference.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    epie

Open Finder and navigate to Applications > Canon Utilities > IJ Network Scanner Selector EX and open the Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX utility. This utility will search your local network for the MG5220 and if found, should show something like below.
If the MG5220 is found, ensure that it is selected - as opposed to "Do Not Use" - and then press the OK button.
Now open MP Navigator and select the Preferences (as shown below)
From the Preferences window, with the General tab selected, ensure you have the MP5200 Series Network set as shown below (which is for my wireless MG6250).
If it is set, press the OK button to close the Preferences window and then see if you can scan.

  • PDF printing problems with Canon Color C3220

I'm having an issue with our Canon Color Imagerunner C3220.
When I send a PDF from Acrobat Professional 7.0 from a Mac to the

knocking out the rule. When I print from a Windows machine it
prints fine. The PDF also looks fine on screen. Our printer was
just upgraded to a C2 rip which I believe may be the culprit but am
not sure. Canon did some troubleshooting and says the problem lies

These PDFs were made from InDesign CS2 and Distiller 7.0. Other

    Mac fix?

I am seeing the same magenta cast (primarily in areas of yellow tones) when printing to an ip4000 on Photo Paper Glossy II using any of the Canon profiles (I've tried them all, one by one).
