Text adjusting table width

I have a table that I want to remain at a fixed width (I do
not have it set to %), and I have 2 colums, the leftmost column
being a sidebar, and a larger column to the right of that one for
mainbody text. When I add the mainbody text, it changes the size of
the sidebar column, does not wordwrap inside the cell, and will
extend the width of the entire table if do not use hard returns to
create a new line. Is there a way to get the text to wordwrap
inside the cell, and keep it from adjusting the width of any
portion of the table?

Are you entering a long string of unbroken text (i.e., no
spaces)? If so,
then no, there's no way to prevent HTML tables from expanding
to contain
your content.

  • Adjusting table width in report

    Hi
    Is there an attribute which I can set to adjust the width of my tables or one of its columns? I have generated a report using IPMSG_USER_TABLE_FROM_SQL element. The plugin guide has no reference on this, but I noticed couple of reports under Reports main tab have custom column width. Currenly width of the table is governed by the width of the each individual column headers.
    Also is there a way using which I can browse the available oracle namespace which list all these elements/classes and their respective attributes.

    Hi Craig,
    As per your instructions I attempted replacing the variable part (target name) of my URL with the values from the database. But none of my trails succeeded.
    Please have a look at below code and point the possible correction needed.
    DECLARE
    -- Declared a variable to hold target name
    l_target_name VARCHAR2(256);
    BEGIN
    -- Display a link back to Load Balancing Status Report
    l_param_values := MGMT_IP_PARAM_VALUE_LIST();
    l_param_values.extend(3);
    l_param_values(1) := MGMT_IP_PARAM_VALUE_RECORD(
    'oracle.sysman.eml.ip.render.elem.TextParamBean.textMessage',
    'Return to Load Balancing Status Report');
    l_param_values(2) := MGMT_IP_PARAM_VALUE_RECORD(
    'oracle.sysman.eml.ip.render.elem.TextParamBean.textStyleClass',
    'OraTipText');
    -- Below parameter has no effect here even if enabled, my report takes 3 parameters of which 3rd parameter is target guid which Iam using here
    -- l_param_values(3) := MGMT_IP_PARAM_VALUE_RECORD(
    -- 'oracle.sysman.eml.ip.render.elem.sqlStatement',
    -- 'SELECT TARGET_NAME INTO l_target_name FROM MGMT$TARGET WHERE TARGET_TYPE=''plugin_adx'' AND      TARGET_GUID=??EMIP_BIND_PARAM3??');
    -- If I use like this I am getting java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01403: no data found ORA-06512: at line 911
    SELECT TARGET_NAME INTO l_target_name FROM MGMT$TARGET WHERE TARGET_TYPE=''plugin_adx'' AND TARGET_GUID=??EMIP_BIND_PARAM3??
    l_param_values(3) := MGMT_IP_PARAM_VALUE_RECORD(
    'oracle.sysman.eml.ip.render.elem.TextParamBean.textDestination',
    '/em/console/target/homepage/reports?action=generate&type=plugin_adx&title=Load+Balancing&owner=SYSMAN&target=' || l_target_name || '&ctxType=All+Targets');
    l_curr_order := l_curr_order + 1;
    l_curr_row := l_curr_row + 1;
    l_element_guid := mgmt_ip.add_element_to_report_def (
    p_report_guid => l_report_guid,
    p_element_name_nlsid => 'IPMSG_STYLED_TEXT',
    p_element_type_nlsid => 'IPMSG_ANY_TARGET_TYPE',
    p_header_nlslid => null,
    p_element_order => l_curr_order,
    p_element_row => l_curr_row,
    p_parameters => l_param_values,
    p_targets => null
    In each of above trails my URL has a missing target, as a result back navigation is not succeeding.

  • Suddenly cannot adjust table width via sizing handles

    I have found the cause of this, and it is rather bizarre:
    Using Structured FM, 10.0.2.419, on a Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) OS.
    Today I noticed I cannot resize table columns in the usual way, by selecting more than one row in the column and dragging the sizing handles that appear at the edge of the column.  The sizing handles appear there when rows are selected, but I cannot "grab" them.  Instead, when I try to click on a handle, the row selection is lost.  The table has no straddled columns or rows, no hidden/conditional text.  I have tried on several different types of tables all with the same non-result.  The document is otherwise editable.
    I am forced to use the Resize Column dialog box, which is not so fast or easy as just grabbing the column edge and visually adjusting it.
    I have rebooted my machine with no change in the problem.
    ====================
    Resolution:
    The problem appears to occur when I have various panels/pods open (and set to stay open, not iconify after use).  In this case I was working with conditional text, deleting some no-longer-used conditions from my documents.  I had three conditional text panels open in my workspace, ADD/EDIT CONDITION TAG, SHOW/HIDE CONDITIONAL TEXT, and CONDITIONAL TEXT.  The last two were "merged" into a single panel, and all panels were set permanently open using the double right-arrows in the panel dark frame at the top.
    It turns out when I collapse some or all of these open panels, I can select the table resize handles and adjust the column widths visually.  When I have all three pod panels expanded, the resize handles are ungrabbable.
    Forgive me if I'm not using "pod" and "panel" precisely accurately - I just use them (or more often try to work around them) rather than worrying about the names Adobe has chosen.  By giving users SO much flexibility, I personally think they have made an awful usability mess of the product.
    In any case, the problem seems to be solved, and I am posting this in case it can be helpful to anyone else.
    Thanks.

    This sounds like a bug. Please post a formal bug report here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform The engineers can't fix it if they don't hear about it.

              <p class="style45">I have
                been enchanted by nature, birds and wildlife for as long as I can remember.
                Growing up in Toronto, Canada I can recall countless hours spent
                glued to National Geographic magazines, natural history books or watching
                David Suzuki's &quot;The Nature of Things&quot; on TV. Those days
                I took any opportunity I had to study and learn about animals of all
                kinds. Nowadays
                I often find myself up at the crack of dawn, knee-deep in mud or covered
                in mosquitoes all in pursuit of capturing just a glimpse of natures
                beauty. Although I enjoy photographing all of mother natures fascinating
                creatures. I tend to focus on birds. Why birds? I think it's because
                there are so many species of birds, they can be found almost anywhere, they are
                challenging to photograph and they are beautiful to watch. I love birds!</p>

              my passion for nature photography, birds and the natural world with each and every

    When you say center what exactly do you mean, horizontally or vertically centered?
    If I test your code in IE6, IE7, IE8 and  Firefox the text appears horizontally centered??????

  • VC Multiple Table Column Header Lines, Table Width Adjustment

    Hi Experts,
    1) How to have Multiple headers for a column in a single cell i.e multiple lines in the same cell. please provide with example.
    2) How to set your table to adjust the width automatically for all screen resolution since columns of the table disappear and some of the content of the header is not visible if the screen resolution is low.
    3) Is there any way to set the screen resolution for our report alone to very high resolution even if the end user has set the system resolution to low. The reports were developed on a high resolution and now we face the problem as citrix is rolled out and it is standard 1024 * 768 resolution.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Siva

    Wrapping the text of a table column caption into lines is currently not possible. Workarounds could be:
    - using a single character text and a tooltip for the description
    - using an image containing the wrapped text
    Both workarounds have their problems.

  • IText trouble with automatically adjustment of table width

    With iText I an producing a PDF file with some elements. One of these is a table which is supposed to be centered.
    In this table 2x2 with input form a Servlet. This input is a string of variable length, in other words I do not know the length of it.
    I want this table to automatically adjust the cells width according to the length of the String. As I understand iText does not posess this functionality.
    This is how I have created the table: The first column has a width of 0.3 because the values in those I allready know. The default value is centered and 80% span, and because of this the table is not centered according to the text since the content contains empty space, but the 80% span table is centered.
    PdfPTable table = new PdfPTable(2);
    float[] widths = { 0.3f, 0.8f };
    table.setWidths(widths);How could I calculate this? The string has a font size of 22pt. Could I check for the number of chars in the String and adjust the width accordingly? It seems like I need to set the table.setWidthPercentage(50) in addition to the width size. But if I dont know the relationship between the width and percentages.
    If I calculate the width to be 0.6f with font size 22 and length x, how much percentages should I use?

    You need to use FontMetrics. In particular, use the FontMetrics of the table's renderer component so the string width will be calculated correctly even if the cell's value is bold. Something like this:
    Component comp = table.getDefaultRenderer(Object.class).getTableCellRendererComponent(table, cellValue, false, false, row, column);
    FontMetrics fm = comp.getFontMetrics(comp.getFont());
    int cellWidth = fm.stringWidth(cellValue);
    table.getColumnModel().getColumn(column).setWidth(cellWidth);

  • How do you change/adjust border width for all the cells in a table created in Pages?

    How do you change/adjust border width for all the cells in a table created in Pages?
    Note- I am trying to figure out how to create and format tables in the latest version of the Pages app on an iPad air (iOS 8.1.1.1) . Creating tables, adding or removing borders for individual/all cells in a table seems straight forward. However the default border style seems to be a heavy black line. How do I change this?
    I found the option add or remove borders for all/ individual cells in a table, however I can't find any option within style/format dialogue screens for changing colour or line thickness for table cells. Likewise I can't find any clear instructions on how to do this in apple help pages or support website
    Btw- I'm assuming  it is possible to customize/adjust the colour & thickness of selected lines in a table created in this app (it's fairly easy to do this word processing apps like MS Word) please let me  know if this is not actually possible in Pages

    They know perfectly well what they took out of Pages '09.
    Well over 90 features.
    Do you think you posting feedback is going to remind them of what they did?

    Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
    Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • Can I adjust the width of a table cell as I like in web dynpro?

    hi,
        In Micro Soft word or excel, when we use tables,we can adjust the width of a cell at our pleasure. I wonder, in web dynpro development, wether we can change
    the width of cells as we like.Hope to hear your advices!

    Hi Daniel
    That feature is not available in the Webdynpro. hope we get that in future releases
    There is a sticky thread called "POLL: Web Dynpro UI elements - enhancement proposals" in the main page of webdynpro java forum. post your query there. SAP might consider this as useful enhancement.

  • Visual Composer 7.2 SP3 - Adjust column widths of ALV tables by end user

    Hello,
    we're using ALV tables with values coming out of function modules and queries.
    Unfortunately I can't see an opportunity to adjust column widths at runtime by the end user. This is in contrast to VC 7.0 using flex.
    Is there a way to archieve this?
    Kind regards
    Stefan

    Hello Stefan,
    This is a feature of Webdynpro Flex runtime. You can adjust column widths at Flex runtime in 720 SP3 also.
    This is not supported by Webdynpro HTML runtime.

  • Can you make table width editable in a template

    I am new to html and am trying to use a template to create a
    site that will eventually have 10-12 pages. All of the pages will
    have the same basic design, but some need 1 main body section and
    some need 2 (1 main and 1 smaller off to the side). After doing 4
    pages, I realized I could use a template so I wouldn't have to
    re-enter all the links in the nav bar, etc., but if I do a page
    with just one main section, I would like that section to be wider.
    The template will not allow me to adjust the table. Is there a way
    to make the table width editable/adjustable? Thanks for any help
    you can give me... I'm sure to have many more questions once this
    gets solved!

    Well, it's OK, but I'm not sure where you want to go with
    this. I'm not
    crazy about how you have used the CSS - there are things
    there that I think
    are unnecessary....
    Consider this -
    <style type="text/css">

    font-size: 80%;
    color: #000;

    padding: 0;
    color: #000;

    height: 40px;
    padding-left: 5px;
    padding-top: 18px;
    #BlueSpacer {
    background-color: #00C;
    height: 20px;
    #welcome2 {
    font-weight: bold;
    color: #00C;
    background-color: #FC0;
    height: 45px;
    padding-left: 5px;
    padding-top: 18px;
    -->
    </style>
    </head>

    Don't get into additive trouble with percent sized fonts.
    Remember, when
    you have an element with font-size:100%, that's 100% of 80%,
    and when you
    have one with font-size:60%, that's 60% of 80%.

  • Applescript/Pages and adjusting column width (and paragraph style)

    I was hoping that some someone might know how to adjust the width of individual columns in Pages using Applescript. It seems like it should be a simple task, and I can adjust the overall width/height of the table, but I haven't found a way to adjust the column width. Alternatively, I could have the program create the table in Numbers and copy/paste it into Pages, but I'd imagine that would get a bit messy and wouldn't allow me to use a hanging indent in the cells (to the best of my knowledge).
    Also, is there a way to adjust the paragraph style used by the text in the table? Otherwise, I could just use a templet and define the the default table style appropriately. (Though not the most elegant solution).
    Thanks in advance for your help!
    (In case it helps, the script I'm working on parses an unformatted inventory and parses it into paragraphs/tables.)

    Try this:
    set tableCount to 0
    --open file to be pased here, excluded for example
    tell application "Pages"
        activate
        set theDoc to (make new document)
        tell theDoc
            --makes paragraph styles used
            make new paragraph style with properties {name:"Folio", font name:"Times New Roman", font size:12, bold:true, alignment:left, space after:5, keep with next paragraph:true, space before:15}
            make new paragraph style with properties {name:"Place", font name:"Times New Roman", font size:12, bold:false, alignment:left, line spacing type:relative, line spacing:100}
            make new paragraph style with properties {name:"Description", font name:"Times New Roman", font size:12, bold:false, italic:true, alignment:left, line spacing type:relative, line spacing:100}
            make new paragraph style with properties {name:"Table", font name:"Times New Roman", font size:12, alignment:left, left indent:0.5, first line indent:0.0}
            --begin repeat, gathers MS info from one doc (unformatted) and writes it into another with formatting, setting variables directly for example
            set MSName to "new Manuscript"
            set MSPlace to "place where MS is stored"
            set MSDesc to "description of MS"
            set tableData to {{"folio", "title", "composer"}, {"", "subtitle", ""}, {"etc", "next", "next"}}
            --write paragraph information from earlier
            set currentPar to (make new paragraph at end of paragraphs with data MSName)
            set paragraph style of currentPar to "Folio"
            set currentPar to (make new paragraph at end of paragraphs with data MSPlace)
            set paragraph style of currentPar to "Place"
            set currentPar to (make new paragraph at end of paragraphs with data MSDesc)
            set paragraph style of currentPar to "Description"
            --create table, add data, and format
            tell application "System Events" to tell process "Pages"
                key code 125 using {command down} -- move the insertion point to the end
                tell menu bar 1

  • Adjusting Column Widths Via the CSS in 6.5+

    It is pretty easy to adjust column widths in the CSS on 6.5+
    One issue that we encountered that was slightly trickier (for non-css folks like me) was ensuring that the columns were set at 100% for the 2 column layouts.
    The below code will set the narrow columns on 2/3 column layouts to be 200px wide, and ensure that the wide column maintains 100%
    .columnOne               { text-align: left;}
    .columnTwo               { text-align: center; }
    .columnThree               { text-align: left;width:200; }
    .layoutOneColumn               { table-layout: auto; }
    .layoutOneColumn .columnOne     { width: 100%; }
    .layoutTwoColumnNarrowWide     { table-layout: auto; }
    .layoutTwoColumnNarrowWide .columnOne          { }
    .layoutTwoColumnNarrowWide .columnOne .portletBody     {  }
    .layoutTwoColumnNarrowWide .columnTwo .portletBody     { background-color: #FFFFFF; }
    .layoutTwoColumnWideNarrow               { table-layout: auto; }
    .layoutTwoColumnWideNarrow .columnOne .portletBody     { background-color: #FFFFFF; }
    .layoutTwoColumnWideNarrow .columnTwo          {width: 200; }
    .layoutTwoColumnWideNarrow .columnTwo .portletBody     { width: 200; }
    .layoutThreeColumn                    { table-layout: auto; }
    .layoutThreeColumn .columnOne               { }
    .layoutThreeColumn .columnOne .portletBody          {  }
    .layoutThreeColumn .columnTwo .portletBody          { background-color: #FFFFFF; }
    .layoutThreeColumn .columnThree               { }
    .layoutThreeColumn .columnThree .portletBody          {  }
    /* Set the invisible image */
    #portletColumnFormatter_0 img {width:200px;}
    #portletColumnFormatter_1 img{width:100%;}
    #portletColumnFormatter_2 img{width:200px;}

    I don't understand?  I launch PSE 9 from the task bar.  This is the screen I get.
    I've tried right clicking everything I can think of w/o success.
    Once I click "organize", it's too late.  The organizer is coming up.
    Maybe I don't know for sure what the "Organizer icon" is or where it is?  Or, maybe I shouldn't start it from the task bar?

  • Adjust the width of a column in a report.

    Hi,
    How can we adjust the width of a column in a report.
    We have a report with around 10 columns.
    out of the 10 columns 1 column has a width of 500 char..
    we want to display only the first 150 chars of that column with 50 char on first line,next 50 on second line and last 50 on third line.
    i have tried using the the substr and <br> in the region source but it takes 3 lines by default even if it is not of 150 chars .I want to display it in 3 columns if it of 100+ chars.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Using the col tag is the more proper way of fixing the width of a column.
    If you don't want to use the col tag, you should change your expression to:
    &lt;table style="width:500px"&gt;
    Firstly, you should use the unit of length (ie, "px") for any non-zero value and secondly because we are being encouraged to use the style attribute whenever possible as, as I understand it, this will become the standard.
    Regards
    Andy

  • Going Crazy - IE Aligning text in Table differently then Chrome

    Hey guys,
         I need a second set of eyes here. I have been working on finishing up this website for a while and I am having some problems. It's hard to explain, so look for yourself:
    http://christianstest.info/ICCSeattle.com/About.html
    If you click the sub links (Extended Beliefs, About Our Pastors) in Chrome everything looks great! But in IE when you click those links you will notice that the alignment is all wrong in th top table on both the About ICC page and the About our pastors page. I can not for the life of me figure out why. I ahve narrowed it down to the top table in the page:
    <table width="920" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="header">
          <tr>
            <td width="32" height="75" class="headerTitle"> </td>
            <td width="235" class="headerTitle">About</td>
            <td width="615" class="headerLinks"><u>About ICC</u>     <a href="About-ExtendedBeliefs.html">Extended Beliefs</a>    <a href="About-OurPastors.html">About Our Pastors</a></td>
            <td width="38" class="headerLinks"> </td>
          </tr>
          <tr>
            <td height="364" valign="top" class="BodyMainHeader"> </td>
            <td colspan="2" valign="top" class="BodyMainHeader"><p>International Christian Center</p>
              <p class="MainBody"><span class="BodyMainText"><span class="BodyMainText"><span class="BodyMainText"><span class="BodyMainText"><span class="BodyMainText"><img src="Images/LOGO.png" alt="ICC LOGO" width="310" height="292" align="right" />International Christian Center is a church about loving God and loving people. Planted in Renton Washington by Pastors Daniel and Connie Ong in 2008, ICC has since been striving to reach the people of Renton and its neighboring cities.</span></span></span></span></span><span class="BodyMainText"><span class="MainBody"></span></span></p>
              <p class="BodySubHeader">Our Mission Statement</p>
              <p class="BodySubHeader"><span class="BodyMainText">Bringing people to know Christ, to grow in Christ, and to go tell others about Christ.</span><br />
                <strong class="BodyMainText">To Know - To Grow - To Go</strong></p>
              <p class="BodySubHeader">What to Expect on Sunday</p>
              <p class="BodySubHeader"><span class="BodyMainText">Sunday services are all about fellowshipping with one another, worshiping and praising Christ, and learning and growing in His Word. Come as you are, no need to put on a three piece suit or Sunday dress, instead come expecting to be changed from the inside out. Services start at 10AM and are generally concluded by Noon. Every service includes God-centered worship and Bible-centered teaching. Communion is served on the first Sunday of every month.</span></p></td>
            <td valign="top" class="BodyMainHeader"> </td>
          </tr>
        </table>
    I have come to that conclusion since the text in the table directly bellow that (the footer class table) aligns properly. Any idea as to what is wrong? The http://validator.w3.org shows the same errors for each page, msot of which are just missing alt tags, could that cause this problem? Thanks for the help as always guys!

    Got it figured out. It had to do with Splitting the table into 3 columns (I should have known better than to split such a large table like that). I merged the cells in the header and inserted a new table and that fixed all alignment issues and formatting issues. I figured this out by the highly scientific "Guess and check" method! Thanks for your time guys!
