Text Animation: Making words in a sentence fade in one word at a time?

Hi everybody!
I am not very experienced with the text animations in Adobe Premiere Pro (I am running CS4).
How do I create a sentence of text where one word fades in at a time until the full sentence is present? The only way I can think of doing this is the extremely tedious and hard way, which is making each word a title and fading them in and out, and even then, making sure the spacing and placement of the words follow a straight line would be very difficult... there must be a more efficient way, right? Is there some sort of preset I have missed?
Thank you very much!

I recommend using the Keyframes in their mini-Timeline in the Effects Edit Panel. I also use the numerical settings (can be typed in, or scrubbed), to control the Effects. With the Crop Effect, you can Keyframe all four settings, Top, Bottom, Left and Right independently.
To do a "hold," just place one Keyframe at the end of a setting, and another with that same value along the Timeline to the Duration desired. There are Hold Keyframes, but I'd keep it very simple for now.
Now, this is from an earlier version of Pr, but the general tips will be the same (some additional features and a new look added) on Basic Keyframing.
The manual (do they still do those?), and the Help files will give you details, but getting the initial concept down can be a bit daunting. However, once you get your head around the concept and located the position of the various controls, you will NEVER look back, and then the Help files will make a ton mores sense. Also, once you "get it," much of Keyframing translates to AfterEffects too - just some different names and controls, but the same main concept.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • PShop 5.5 - using text tool, can't change color of one word...

    Hi All,
    I'm using the text tool and want to change the color of one word but when I select that word and click on the Color Picker box then select the color I want, the entire text changes to that color. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
    I've got several paragraphs and want all the text except the one word to be black. This page is Layer 2 and has the 'T' next to it in the Layers palette.
    Cany ideas?
    Thanks,
    Nancy

    Bless your heart for being patient with XD. I've had a rather frustrating 'technology day' with my husband's laptop (using Vista) and uploading photos but I figured that out. On top of that, my sister had a few changes to make to her website and - unfortunately - most of the pages with loads of text are done with PhotoShop then converted to .jpg's. I know...I know. I'm trying to find the time to change those pages in DreamWeaver to table format instead of layer format...long story.
    All that to say - thank you so much and I love your 'dag nabbit'...that's my kind of talk. I'm grateful for your help and it's ended my day on a better note! ;-)
    Sounds like you're a teacher? Maybe you'll have advice for me with DreamWeaver.... ?
    Thanks again,
    Nancy

  • One word text per line

    Hello, Hopefully somebody might be able to point me in the right direction before i go completely mad!! I have a page with a table - 2 columns, one column with a small amount of text and 2nd column with an image. My text column looks fine in dreamweaver but as soon as i preview it in internet ex or firefox all the text goes a bit odd, where it just puts one word on every line vertically, so the text runs right past the table bottom to the bottom of the page, never putting more than one word on a line. I have adjusted the table widths but still does the same thing.
    I know i must have done something wrong along the line but just cannot figure it out.
    Help would be so appreciated thanks.

  • Fade From B&W To Color With Full Color Text Animation Overlay

    So, this is my first time EVER  using any kind of serious video editing software.  I'm doing it LEGALLY using the University Macs and the software that is installed on it.  I'm a TOTAL novice at all of this.  I think I'm biting off on more than I can handle, but hopefully somebody can help with this.  I want a clip at the very beginning of the video to start with B&W video and fade into color at a specific point that corresponds with a point in some music that I'm using as the "soundtrack" so to speak.  There will be a colored text animation that begins during the B&W portion and then that text will need to fade before the B&W video fades to color.  I've been looking for as much information as I can about this.  I've looked at youtube tutorials and step-by-step text tutorials (I prefer text with screenshots) on how to do this, but nothing that I find seems to accommodate everything that I'm trying to do here.  If somebody would be so kind and patient enough as to humor a complete NOOB and walk me through this as though they're talking to a 12-year-old (I'm 37) who knows NOTHING about video editing, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much.

  • Why does my Mac auto-select the next few words or even sentences after i select and delete a batch of text?

    For instance, if i were to select the next seven words and then over-write or delete them, the next few words would automatically become selected and, because i'm already typing, i would over-write them as well.  The more words that i initially select, the more words become selected after i hit delete.  You can imagine how annoying this might be when i decide to chuck an entire paragraph, select it, begin to over-write, and then realise that i've just over-written most of the next paragraph and part of the previous.
    This can't possibly be a feature so i don't what option i might have chosen that would've prompted this kind of behaviour from my Mac.  It's done it intermittently over the last year that i've owned it.  It usually begins after an edit or two within a given document or email.  Once it begins, it doesn't stop, it just gets worse.

    Firefox allows to select part of a word. You can select a word with a double click and use Shift + left click to set the end of the selection, so you need to click at the end of the last word instead of in it.

  • Jerky text animations

    Whenever I do a text animation (motion tween, usually moving
    or scaling text from 80% to 100%, for example) the motion is very
    jerky, not smooth like I often see. I use Flash 8, 20 fps, and the
    problem is the same on all fonts I've tried. Is there something I'm
    missing?

    Text animation will almost always be jerky, unless you twin a
    single word.
    Flash needs to render all the little curves, a sentence made
    of many characters
    can become quite a complex bunch of curves to move around.
    Sometimes breaking apart will help, also increasing frame
    rate to 31.

  • Ideas for algorithm to display how many words in a sentence differ?

    For example......
    sentenceA: I went to the store today.
    sentenceB: I want to the store tdoay.
    ...easy case...compare word by word, we see one difference. BUT, this fails in a case such as the one below:
    sentenceA: I went to the store today.
    sentenceB: I went went to the store today.
    ....if we just compare word by word, it will fail on the 3rd word, and all the subsequent words will not match as well. We want this case to be returned as 1 error.
    Any ideas? I've tried some algoriths that read both sentences both forward and backwards and compares, and this helps with the extra inserted words, but it is not foolproof/ideal for all cases.
    Maybe I am missing some obvious way to accomplish this?
    Thanks alot for any ideas/inspiration guys!

    turbo, I thought about this again. I'd still recommend you look at some texts on compiler construction. The scanner (in your case) would return one word at a time. If punctuation is not significant in your case, then the scanner should ignore things like periods, commas, etc.
    In a compiler situation, the parser compares the token against a grammar to determine if the token fits any of the rules. In your case, the "rule" could simply be the contents of one of the documents in a "tokenized" format (meaning, if the punctuation is not significant, the tokenized list omits those). The "tokenized" contents of the second document could be compared against that of the first one.
    I have not dealt with compiler writing for quite a few years and so some of the concepts are quite rusty. One of those is the error handling and restarting the parsing process. If I may, that's the area you may want to check. Methinks you ought to be able to adapt that approach to fit your requirements. Just a parser can count the number of errors, yours should be able to keep track of the number of mismatches.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers!

  • Apple Mail - how to get the first word in a sentence to auto-capitalize

    How to get the first word in a sentence to auto-capitalize
    Anwar

    something to look forward to then, because we get used not to use our shift button any more, since iPhone and iPad do it for us. entourage and other ms stuff do it. pages does it too now (put it on in the auto-correct in preferences). bizarre however some loose the capitalization when you copy the text. pages to stickies or mail does not. that's good !

  • Text animation does not play in Firefox (Was:firefox problems)

    Hey everybody, I created an Edge Animate document and it has text animations where the text fades in and out. Now it works fine in IE and Chrome but not FireFox. All the text displays all at once in a jumbled mess. Anyone have an idea what's going on? Because I don't.

  • How to finds specific words in each sentence?

               // the file must be called 'myfile.txt'
               String s = "myfile.txt";
               File f = new File(s);
               if (!f.exists())
                    System.out.println("\'" + s + "\' does not exit. Bye!");
                    return;
               BufferedReader inputFile = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(s));
               String line;
               int nLines = 0;
               while ((line = inputFile.readLine()) != null)
                    nLines++;
                   System.out.println(findTheIndex(line));
               inputFile.close();
           public static String findTheIndex(String sentence){
                String result = "";
                String[] s = sentence.split("\\s");
              for (String s1: s){
                   for (String s2: days){
                        if (s1.equalsIgnoreCase(s2)) {
                             if(s2.matches("every Tuesday")){
                                             }else if (s2.matches("every Wednesday")){
                                              }What is wrong with it because I tried to find "every Tuesday" in
    myfile.txt: "Go fishing every Tuesday and every Wednesday"
    There is big problem with split statement because it takes each word not more than a word.
    I need to have "every Tuesday" not "Tuesday". How to make it correct codes?

    I am going to give you a picture of how the output will look.
    Here are two sentences from myfile.txt:
    Go fishing every Tuesday and every Wednesday
    Meet with research students on Thursday
    I need to read from myfile.txt and to find specific words in each sentences like this output:
    Every Tuesday : Go fishing
    Every Wednesday : Go fishing
    Thursday : Meet with research students
    Ok. make sense? Now I am trying to figure out how to find specific words in each sentence from myfile.txt.
    That is why I have difficult with the splits statement and loops. Like this:
           public static String findTheIndex(String sentence){
                String result = "";
                String[] s = sentence.split("\\s");
              for (String s1: s){
                   for (String s2: days){
                        if (s1.equalsIgnoreCase(s2)) {
                             if(s2.matches("every Tuesday")){
                             }else if(s2.matches("every Wednesday")){
                             }else if(s2.matches("Thursday")){
                             }else{
                                  System.out.println("That sentence is not working");
                return result;
      }So look at the "Thursday" it is working the output because I have split statement to give me only one word not more than
    a word in sentence. So there is big problem with more than a word in sentence like this "every Tuesday" and it won't work at all because of split. Could you please help me how to do that? I appreciated for that help. Thanks.

  • Mail - Auto capitalize first word in each sentence

    When composing a message in mail is there a way to turn on auto capitalization for the word beginning each sentence?

    As far as I can tell you cant auto capitalize the first word of each sentence. I did however find out how to turn "i" into "I in case that is bugging you as well
    Go into System Preferences
    Click on Language and Text
    Choose the "Text" box on the menu bar
    It will bring you to the text substitution thingamajig where you can replace "i" with an "I". Once done it will work on Mail as well as most applications system wide.
    Hope that helps a little

  • Any advise on how I can turn just one word in a sentence upside down, as opposed to all flipped

    Could someone advise on how I can turn just one word in a sentence upside down, as opposed to all flipped. Im trying to make one word stand out whilst designing in a text sentence window.
    Thanks In advance

    It’s best to type your sentence and then click on the hand tool to deselect the Type tool
    Click the type tool again and type the word you wish to rotate (it will be on a separate layer.
    Select the layer with the full sentence and add a layer mask.
    Choose the brush and paint with black to mask the word in the sentence.
    Select the layer above with the single word and use the move tool to rotate and position it. Then save.

  • Link a word in a sentence to go to another frame?

    I want to be able to do the following:
    Type out a sentence and then highlight one of the words in the sentence and create a link to go to another frame.
    Is this possible?
    The only other way which is time consuming (Especially with possibly hundreds of sentences) is to create each word as a button and then fit each word as a sentence together.
    surely there is an easier way?
    It will be the basis of an Elearning course for kids to click on a word in a sentence and based on their choice they go to a Correct or Wrong frame.
    Captivate cannot do this unfortunately.

    I'm not sure regarding the whole typing/highlighting end of things if you mean to do that will the file is running.   But in the authoring mode if you use the htmlText property of the textfield you can assign links in the text and use the TextEvent class to listen for clicking of the links and then take action on that.
    aTextField.htmlText = "Here's <a href=\"event: frame10\">One Link</a> and here's <a href=\"event: frame20\">Another</a>";
    aTextField.addEventListener(TextEvent.LINK, linkEvent);
    function linkEvent(evt:TextEvent):void {
         var frameLabel = evt.text;
         gotoAndStop(frameLabel);

  • Text animation question

    Hi all,
    I'm using Flash CS3, actionscript 2 to build a site in which I would like to have a line of text animation to slide off the screen, but I'm looking for something similar to almost a 'sideways explosion'.... it will be synched to the sound of a golf club swing, and I'm look for some way to get that instant explosion, with the letters plowing through each other and away as they fade off the page....
    Does anyone know of some sort of example that may prove useful in my search to learn how to accomplish this?
    I appreciate your time and effort to help.

    well I have been searching a great deal, but haven't found anything similar to what I'm tryi
    ng to accomplish... I guess I could describe it as a 'bowling pin' effect, where the letters would collide into each other as they swept
    off the page.  I've tried searching for text explosions, text slider effects, etc.. but I keep coming up with nada.
    Thanks for the help tho

  • PE7 - Title text animation

    When creating a title, you can choose to apply one of several text animations, e.g. fade, pan and zoom, etc. You simply select the text you want to animate, then choose an animation from the edit panel and click apply. My question is, when you later come back to edit that title, how can you tell which animation is applied? The animation does not seem to highlight. Similarly, the text style does not highlight, although you can tell which font and point and other characteristics are applied to selected text by looking at the text options.
    The "Fade out by line" animation seems to be similar to just clicking the "Fade out" button in the opacity properties of the title (if all there is in the title is text), but no key frames are created, or at least they are not visible anywhere that I can find. There does not seem to be any way to edit the properties of one of these "canned" animations. Is this right, or am I missing something?
    Thanks for any help or further explanation.

    There is no straightforward location in the UI from where you can find out which animated title or which Style has been applied to a title. The Remove button in the animation panel gets highlighted only once we have applied an animation, so a user can find out wether any animation has been applied or not but cannot decipher which animation has been applied to a text.
    I normally apply the nimation and click preview to see the end result, and If I like it, I keep it that way.
